Fairyland Chic Line clothing, shoe, and wig database - Useable vs. REALLY FITS

May 18, 2010

    1. Right, I see. Thanks for letting me know about that, you girl looks gorgeous by the way. The gathering does look a tad out of scale but the top looks really nice on her even if it did need pinning :)

    2. It's good that I never get rid of anything (heh, I'm just really bad at it and hate mailing packages), because when I did get my ChicLine, I had a nice stock of a few pairs of Ellowyne shoes/tights that had been sitting around for ages, since I'd bought the outfits for my Unoas/Naraes, but of course the shoes and tights didn't fit anybody! ;)

The Fairyland ChicLine Flickr group is a good place to look for outfit ideas, too, because they have everything from handmade outfits to stuff from fashion dolls, and most of the members are really nice and helpful :)

      http://www.flickr.com/groups/chicline/

I recommend searching for "Paul Zhangby" on eBay, too -- once you figure out which doll types your ChicLine will fit, Paul and Sherry make shoes, clothing, etc. (it's more like a brand than a pair of artists, AFAIK, because I think some of their stuff is factory-produced), and you can get some great outfits from them. Most of my shoes for my ChicLine came from them! :)

      -- A <3

    3. Yeah but for the girls there are TONS of stuff, if you know where to look. The boys? Nearly ZERO. I haven't found much of anything and my sewing skills suck.

    4. Can anyone recommend a shop or seamstress to make well-fitted C-Line stretch-pleather pants for girls? I noticed that they have some for sale on Fairyland, but by the time I paid shipping for one item, it would be twice the price. (I'd also like to add a little bit of detail around the waist, like faux studs.)

(I also have the "Bit" outfit for C-Line boys, which I bought in hopes that I could make the vest fit with a little strategic cinching, but it would have to be taken apart and re-pieced to fit properly. I can't sew a stitch, and most people don't have a C-Line to act as a fit mannequin!)

Note: Not soliciting sales/etc., just asking if anyone knows of a shop/person who works in this size and with these types of materials.

      Thanks!

      -- A <3

    5. LiquidSunshineOnline (Kari) makes great jeans. HazelStreetDesigns used to sew for the Chiclines, but doesn't anymore. Both of them make excellent, well-detalied things for them. I have several from each. They are on etsy. There is definitely a need for someone to make those great-fitting stretch pants. Lycra and stretch fabric takes a skilled hand to deal with (as I know to my chagrin)

    6. I can second Hazel Street Designs, she once made some capris for my Lishe that were great. Also KawkanaStyle on Etsy makes stuff for Tonner so it might worth contacting her about a commission /shrug/

    7. Thanks so much, guys!!

      :D

    8. Thanks for sharing the clothing test photos! It's nice to see the actual pieces on the CLine bodies.

    9. I have just got a Monique wig in 4-5 for my Ino and it is on the large side and covers most of her ears. Has anyone tried a 4 for the CLines? I have a 4 from another company and that definitely not doing the job, but Monique wigs are pretty stretchy.

      Cheers

    10. I have a 4 inch Soom Mini Gem wig that fits on my Ineffa. I have a Monique wig for my Dollchateau Ada, but I'm not sure if that's a 3-4 inch wig or a 4-5, but it won't stay on my Ineffa's head. I haven't tried the wig with velcro on the head yet, though.

    11. Hm, sounds as though it might be a 3-4, then. I always prefer to go as small as will stay on to avoid the pouf factor, which seems to be a big problem with these tiny heads. Have you tried it with a rubber band? That is what is holding my Ino's wig on atm.

      Thanks for that.

    12. I have a 4/5 monique, and it will fit on my ineffa, but it would pop off at the slightest touch or move of the head.

I eventually caved and put velcro on her head and its never come off since.

    13. Ah. Monique styles vary in their sizes. I have found this before. Some seem to come up big and others small. I have Ellowyne Wilde and I think I must have chosen one of the larger styles. Ah well. I will see how it goes and if I ever get around to making her a proper hard cap wig.

Changing the subject, well made, cheap Tonner-sized stockings and gloves on feeBay from the_daughter_who_sews.

      http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/the_daughter_who_sews/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_from=&_ipg=&_trksid=p3686

If anyone needs a picture, I can oblige, but they do fit very well.

Me again (you can tell I have a day off).

Has anyone tried Glib's 6x2mm eyes? They have 2mm irises, which is a more realistic proportion than traditional eyes. Trouble is, they seem to have a MASSIVE pupil. I am interested to know if that is what they are really like as, if so, no good.

      eg http://www.mudoll.com/shop/step1.php?number=574

    14. Madam Mau Mau, if you look on eBay, there are a ton of hardcap wigs available for fashion dolls -- I was looking at them for my C-Line Lishe (although her head is in permanent floating status, since the C-Line body was co-opted by Jackal), and at one point, I checked the head measurement and knew which fashion-doll wigs were the right size. Sorry that I'm spacing on which ones were the right dimensions at this point -- it was a couple of years ago.

Facets by Marcia is a good place to look for wigs, and there's a French shop called Fleurdelysdoll whose owner is really helpful!

      -- A <3

    15. You know, I had never thought to look on eBay for hard cap wigs. I just did now, and there was only one there so perhaps the moment has gone on that one. The trouble with buying a hard cap wig (apart from the terrifying price) is that, being hard cap, they are tailored to a particular head. Some are even made of resin and really will only fit the head they were made on. I have to have a go at making hard caps wigs at some point, and this is the right incentive, I think.

Yes, I can also recommend Marcia at Facets. I have been buying my Monique wigs from her for years. I also just bought some fashion doll shoes from her for my ChicLine, so a good resource.

I had browsed Fleur de Lys a couple of weeks back and staggered away at the prices. I thought BJD stuff was over-priced. That was before I became aware of fashion doll stuff. Wow. But some lovely bits in there. My ambition to get a pair of Jamieshow shoes. Now those are NICE.

      Thanks for all that!

    16. The Dollmore FD wigs will definitely fit the Chiclines. I have several of them and have not had a problem with fit. Marcia Facets is great to work with and can answer most any question re: fit, too. She has quite a few bjd's herself.

    17. Photo of the stockings and gloves from the_daughter_who_sews (eBay) and the lovely lingerie by the equally lovely moggyuk on here. She doesn't have a CLine so was working from measurements, but I think she did a damned good job.

    18. WOW!!!! Your girl looks incredible!!!

Which face sculpt is she? As usual, you've made her so your own that what I see is your character first, the sculpt second! :D

      -- A :aheartbea

    19. Thank you. She is an Ino and will deviate away from my default glamour style once I have got her some clothes. I am starting from the underwear and working my way out.

    20. Some eye ideas for those who want to go glass. Sorry about the cross-eyed stare. I have only just noticed that. These are by Thomas Eichhorn-Nelson in Germany, who speaks only German, but I got by with Google translate. If you buy standard-sized irises, you don't need the translation. It is a pretty straightforward site. If you want ones that look like this, however, you will have to ask for custom eyes as the irises are generally large. Well, large for mature realistic. Fine for a more fantasy effect. I asked for 2mm irises. These are 2mm but the second set were slightly larger. That is the consequence of going handmade, I guess. The site is here http://www.glasaugen-eichhorn.de/figurenaugen/index.htm

    21. Gorgeous!

If anyone wants to order there - I can help you with translating, if you want. I'm German, so I oughta understand just fine what's on the website. :) Just send me a PM.

    22. Khell, I do wish I had your expertise when I was ordering. We had a couple of confusing exchanges, but we got there in the end. You will have to email if you want a custom order, but he is quick to respond, if a little brief in his responses (hence the need for clarification). There was no additional charge for custom sizes and postage was pretty cheap (about 3.50 Euros to be sent in a padded envelope). If you want paperweights (and it might be a good idea. I didn't and now wish I had) I believe there is an additional charge. I would be interested to see any that people order.

    23. I actually might give it a try. Those eyes are nice and the prices are really very reasonable for handmade glass eyes. If I do, I'll try to post pics.

    24. Great. Will you be ordering paperweights? The eyes are a little dark and lacking in depth and I would be keen to see what they look like with a bit more refraction going on.

    25. I visited this site (glasaugen-eichhorn) ages ago but at the time, only saw eyes suitable for (what I thought) reborns or bears. This time I saw exactly what I've been looking for - eyes with a dark ring around the iris (in hellblaugrau). Plus they're available in sizes 3mm to 32mm. I might try fumbling around the checkout process and order a couple pair. Thanks for the link.

    26. Those eyes are AWESOME! If I didn't know the scale I'd think that was an Iple!

Thanks so much for the offer! I hope he doesn't get tired of making small iris 6mm!

    27. I'll get the paperweights, yes. Might take a while, though, since I'm right out of doll money right now. Bought too many Hot Toys action figures (*cough* Coulson *cough*) and also, a doll I didn't really plan to buy. But when I do get them, I'll post pics here.

    28. LOL. I can relate to that, having paid off my Joker last month, but these are such reasonably-priced eyes that I felt I could splurge. I will probably splurge again when I see some pictures of the paperweights. My incoming Rou now needs some.

    29. Oh, just wait until I've taken a closer look at my bank account balance! :D I got a feeling that Nat (my Minifee Marcia - didn't really plan on getting her but when my friend decided to sell her ...) is gonna want some new eyes, soon and if I'm ordering eyes anyways ... *gg* Sneaky Damien! (That's my Rou.)

    30. And just think of the luxury of ordering doll products from your own country! No three month wait. He posted mine out within a day or us agreeing the order. You could have them by the end of next week.

And I need to think of a name for my incoming Rou, and fast. And find a wig, and shoes and, and

Has anyone ordered the boys' riding boots from Facets? If so, any chance of a picture? They look as though they might be slightly clunky, but I would be very interested to see a few pictures of them on CLines.

    31. Releaserain has started producing their MSD-sized male shoes in the smaller 'Matt O'Neill' size, which is generally suitable for the Chicline male foot. I took a flyer on a couple of pairs and I'm really happy that I did! They're a touch oversized, but not clown shoes; they look fine when on, and are just small enough to require some serious foot-wrestling.

Here's a pair of the two-tone oxfords with my Rou's foot; you can see that they're only slightly oversized and of reasonable quality. I think they look fine when on, too. I also bought a pair of the British-flag Doc Martens boots and wrestled them onto my El, and the results were excellent!

Be sure to buy your Chicline shoes from the '17" Matt Male/Lara Croft Shoes' section and not the '1/4 BJD' section. They look similar, but the ones made for the Matt body are smaller and closer to the correct size!

Also, the clothing in their Matt O'Neill Male Outfit section is workable, but it tends to be more obvious that those pieces are just a little too big. Here's a lousy quick snapshot of my El in the Releaserain striped sweater and the Doc Martens boots--it looks okay in the terrible photo, but the shoulder seams are annoyingly bulky and the sweater is baggy on his torso.

    32. There's - no items available in the store? Is it just me having problems cos *censored* ebay keeps locking out Chinese sites because, of course, they're all eeeeevil copied-product-sellers?

    33. I can see them and Releaserain are a long established, reputable eBay shop. No reason for eBay to dislike them.

    34. Oh, heck. That big URL is probably tracking my specific user ID or something--I can't seem to get a better link, even logged out! Your best bet would be to visit the storefront:

      http://stores.ebay.com/Releaserain

And then scroll down to the 'Tonner' section and click on the subsection named '17" Matt Male/Lara Croft Shoes'. Ugh. What a mess. I'm sorry. :doh

    35. Oh, but there is a reason! Are them from China? Cos eBay Germany's been blocking a LOT of reputable Chinese doll-shops recently. As they said to "protect" people (because all Chinese shops are, like, CONSTANTLY violating copyrightds and trademarks and they're, like, ALL selling that cheap, low-quality, fake stuff). But honestly, it's probably just to make people buy stuff from German eBay shops/dealers.
*goes to write eBay a very, very upset mail now*

    36. Realy? Just because some Chinese companies flout copyright all are being penalised? Definitely time for an email.

    37. ... which I just did. Just checked - can't access Sunny's Wonderful World, either. It was still working on Wednesday and they still got items listed - I got some of them on my watch list, I still can access them and they're still up but when I go to the store's URL, there's 0 articles listed. And a notice:
So I wrote eBay, telling them that I hope it's a technical thing. And that, if it isn't and if they don't make those shops available again, I'd see myself forced to contact the media about that (which I actually can do, not just showing off here, since I'm working for "the media"). I really don't see why they would have a reason to block those shops, other than them being Chinese. They both got 100% positive feedback, several thousand satisfied customers. Same with Jeeryama ... It's ridiculous.

    38. Ebay just loves to cut its own throat, doesn't it? The Chinese companies aren't the only ones that seem to be blocked. One US 1:6 dealer was blocked because he sold historically-correct German outfits for 1:6 WWII action figures that had swastikas on them.
I've bought from Sunny's and Releaserain a number of times and never had any problems with either. I also have no problem buying from their independent websites. As a matter of fact, prices are sometimes lower on the sites than on eBay (ie, 9style). I did fine before eBay and can function (haha - buy stuff!) just as well without them again.
I'll have to dig out the receipt for a great-looking pair of shoes I got for my Rou - they're almost perfectly sized but I forgot where I got them.

I think the sweater looks great! much better than other Matt sweaters I've tried on my boys. The muscular guys fit into Tyler tees nicely since they stretch - my El is wearing a Tyler Supergirl tee and Rou the pink Orlando Fashion Fantasy tee. Cute couple. ;)

    39. Unbelievable! I know that you may not show obvious Nazi symbols on eBay so historical action figure clothing sometimes has to be 'Shopped out, but that is just incredible.

I know action figure clothing was discussed a while back and some seemed to fit. Any more experiences on this? My Rou should be in next week and I have NOTHING for him to wear, so I am hoping that I can at least cover his modesty with something from my action figure clothing box.

    40. That sweater looks fine for 'sloppy day' wear. They don't ALWAYS have to look like they're on a fashion shoot!

Which wig is that? I like it a LOT!

    41. THANK YOU!! I had no idea where to get my guys anything!

    42. Thank you! It's a wig I had made by Chewin, who mostly does fashion-doll stuff. When I found out that he had Chiclines, I fell all over myself to commission some wigs from him! It can be so hard to find tiny boy-short wigs.

You're welcome! A search for 'Matt O'Neill' will generally turn up clothes that are somewhat oversized but workable. Some Matt shoes are almost 7cm long, but the Releaserain and Paul Zhangby shoes tend to be about 6.5cm, which is definitely closer to the mark!

    43. I had a few photos of my Rou wearing them a few pages back but when on a deleting-spree a while ago and took deleted them also from here.
But here are there are again and a few links. Hope they help you, I take terrible photos…DX

      Without pants:
      1,2,3,4.

They are a bit big but I like that you don't need socks to be able to take them off, because they have a zipper on the back and have plenty of room.
They are not tight around the calves either, which was my main concern since I got the rider-boots from Releaserain which are sadly
a bit on the tight side and do need to be pried off.

Also in case anyone is interested, my Rou wearing the Sport Boots by Facets, here (terribly dark photo!).

      - Enzyme

    44. Enzyme, that is really useful. Thanks for that. The last they used isn't quite foot-shaped, which was a major concern, but it really doesn't look too bad, does it? I have to stop being such a realism perfectionist. Which size did you get? And the Releaserain boots look a bit more modern than I need, and a little like biker boots. I need Victorian riding boots, so I think I will opt for the Facets ones.

And you didn't make those PVC trousers, did you? They are just :o :D. Pattern? *Looks pleading*

Those Arabian slippers look excellent too, dhawktx. Great resource.

ETA: Actually, just had a thought. If action figure clothes fit in breadth but not in length, I already have a pair of PVC trousers here. If he is to be wearing boots, no one will see that his trouser legs are halfway up his calves. I would still be interested in info about yours, though, Enzyme.

ETA2: And, Gallye, how do you get hold of Chewin? I have seen his(?) photos on the Ip site, but I don't think I have seen him here. And what sort of price is a custom CLine wig, if you don't mind me asking?

    45. MadamMauMau, I got the Matt size for both, however the sports boots are about 1cm (or two!) bigger than the riding boots.
They don't look too terrible in person but they are not as realistic-looking as 1:6 military shoes, if that is what you are after.
They are a lot more fashion-dollie-looking but it's not too bad if you know that's what they are. ^.~ The ones by Releaserain
are indeed modern, they were called "engineer-boots" if I'm not mistaken but they are a lot more realistic looking and less
"saggy-looking" on the CL foot they are pretty close to 1:6 in terms of realism and fit (although a bit of a pain to take off).

Action figure clothes might fit if you get clothes meant for HT Dutch (or TTM20) body, but I think that might be harder than
actually finding clothes meant for CL boys! I made the PVC pants using James' pattern for SD-sized boys I resized it to fit CL males.
I believe I have the resized pattern saved on my external drive but I'm not 100% sure that I saved it, I'll look for it if you are interested
although I have to warn you that it will only work if you use super stretchy material (I suck at resizing!). Or I can link you to the original
pattern if you want to resize it yourself. Just let me know and I'll look for it for you. (:

      - Enzyme

    46. I am always after as much realism as I can get and action figure stuff sets the standard. However, I am aware that there are limited options out there for dolls of this size, so I have to compromise my standards. The riding boots don't look 100% realistic to me, but I don't think I will find anything else in that style. I have a number of action fig riding boots but, even with female foot parts so they can be got on, I suspect they will be too short on the leg. I can give it a go, I guess.

I have both a TTM20 and the orginal T800, both of whom have some gorgeous leather trousers (apair each of the MMS and DX T-800 ones). Trouble is, that is all they have and they won't give them up without a fight. I will try them on when my Rou arrives and, if they fit, there might still be a few pairs of DX10 trousers floating around for an almost sensible price.

ETA: Ah, just had a look on eBay. $30 for either version T-800 trousers. Whoof! Have to think seriously about that. Such a shame the jackets would be too short in the arm. That would be one amazing outfit.

And, yes, I would be very interested in the pattern, any way that you can get it to me. Cheers.

    47. I know what you mean! When I first got my Rou I purchased ACE's black combat boots thinking they might fit
since CP tends to sculpt tiny feet (in proportion to the rest of the body) but they didn't fit! I was quite upset
because they are so gorgeously well-made they could be human shoes someone magically shrunk. It's not easy
finding nice-looking shoes for male-dolls in any hobby but the 1:6-military one (sadly not all are vegan-friendly,
so I don't own many myself either way). If I could, I would own a whole bunch of 1:6 male-shoes, just because of
how incredibly well-made they are. The clothes are amazing as well, not only realistic but the fasteners are proportioned.
One of my biggest pet peeves are proportions of fasteners, but that doesn't seem to be something everyone minds (in this hobby).
I also got the TTM20, I was thinking of replacing my Redfield's original bod, but that didn't work!!! S.T.A.R.S. pants are too tight for the thunder-thighs
(if only Redfield's clothes didn't go for over $60 on ebay, not paying that for 1:6 pants no matter how well-made they are!).

I didn't save the resized pattern but here is the link to the original James' pattern. I hope it helps. (:

      - Enzyme

    48. Thanks for that link.

Yes, action figure scaling is perfect, even if it isn't made for the type of play that BJDs are designed for, such as dressing and undressing. But I will try all my action fig stuff on my Rou and post the results. Hopefully it will help someone here.

And Redfield looks rather bullnecked on the TTM-20, I thought (I tried it for someone), so perhaps it is not all bad.

    49. I've previously posted a free pattern for some slip-on hip hugger CLine male pants here (better with moderate stretch fabrics - these were made with a thin stretch denim): http://dhawktx.deviantart.com/art/Simple-BJD-Chicline-guys-Hip-Hugger-pants-pattern-332710323

And I did a comparison of Action Figure shoes on Cline males using the CLine girl's feet: http://www.flickr.com/photos/dhawktx/sets/72157625806631010/with/5349056368/

And there's one group of Facets by Marcia ankle boots that the guys can wear with their own feet! LOL!

      http://www.flickr.com/photos/dhawktx/sets/72157626100078438/with/5676736259/

EDIT: Whups - he was wearing the girl flat feet. D'Oh!

    50. No problem, I hope the pattern works for you! I also hope your action fig stuff fits on Rou, I'm sure it would help a lot of people
who can't (don't wan to) sew or don't know where else to look for clothes for CL males.

That's the thing about dolls, even if you try to think of them as not being fashion-type-dolls, they still pretty much are and that's the
type of realism you get not only in the sculpting of the dolls themselves but also the accessories and clothes that are available for them.

I think the TTM20's neck is too-long for Redfield but with the S.T.A.R.S. shirt and vest on it doesn't look that bad,
his original ("Dutch") body has a neck just as thick but shorter, problem is the pants won't go past the thighs. Now I got an extra body I didn't need! Lol!
If re/dressing rubber bodies wasn't a such a chore, I would remove (again) Redfield's clothes and try them on Rou but I rather not right now
(the heat-wave here is not helping things either).

      - Enzyme

    51. For the Hazelstreet clothes, what size fits best?

      Antoinette/cami
      Tyle
      Ellowyne
      FR16

    52. From my reading (I have about three pages of notes I have taken from this thread. Sad but true), Antoinette sized is generally the best bet. No idea on that brand in particular, though.

Thanks for those links, dhawktx, particularly the pattern. I can't sew, but it is amazing what you can force yourself to do when there is a nekkie dolly to be sorting out.

Enzyme, yes, perhaps it is the length of the neck, although the head socket wouldn't fit over the top of the neck when I tried it. Anyway, too much neck one way or another. And my Rou arrived this morning. I am waiting for a quiet moment to enjoy opening him. Let's see for how long I can hold off. The I will try on ALL my action figure clothes and report back. T-800 is getting stripped down, I tell you.

    53. MadamMauMau, congratulations & good luck! I hope at least the pants fit, it would be easier to disguise the length of pants than shirts, at least! (:

Ashbet, they have such a nice color selection! Too bad the irises appear to be more than half the size of the whole eyeball.
Although not everyone here minds large irises (think I'm in the minority here, actually). I hope to see some of them in the males
regardless, I might cave and purchase a pair myself, even if I never use them. Thanks for the heads up and for posting the links!

      - Enzyme

    54. Yus, irises too big for me. I shall shortly be making another order from our lovely German eye-maker.

I am repeating a lot of what has already been said, but a quick review of action figure stuff on a male CLine.

      - Normal trousers do not fit. No way. They are too narrow and can't be pulled up beyond mid-thigh. Trousers built for Hot Toys Big Arnie bodies (either version T-800, Dutch, possibly Chris Redfield) can be pulled on with effort if there is a bit of stretch, like the T-800 leather trousers. They will probably stretch further with use. They end about mid calf, which would probably be OK if they are being used to tuck into knee high boots. And they make his bum look MAGNIFICENT! I took them off mine pretty quickly as I didn't want to ruin the trousers of my now very rare figure, but I might see if I can get a pair off eBay and will post a picture.

      - Tops. T-shirts are fine width-wise, but tend to be a little short. Shirts are very tight and can not be done up, although the open-shirted look did look pretty good. Sleeves are also too short, but I rolled them up and that worked.

      - Shoes/boots. As has already been noted, all fitted girl feet fine, but not boy. I put my girl's flat feet on my boy for the sake of getting some combat boots on and I think he looked disproportional, as though he was about to fall over.

      - Hats are just too small. Shame.

      - Belts are fine. Look good.

      - Glasses and sunglasses can be got on, but are tight around the head and tend to ping off. They also look rather small.

So, yes, none of that helps a great deal, does it? If I have any further revelations, I will share them. I haven't tried any of my boy figure stuff on my Ino. Some of that might work.

    55. Thanks for the link! I think the Spicy Short is even nicer as a guy cut - not so much fiber that it's too fluffy!

    56. I need to get a few shots of this but raided the BF's fig stash and have a few things that fit well on my girl. Some stuff made to fit 1/6 ladies of the bulky Cygirl style will fit if its stretchy. Also, this is gonna sound crazy but theres a set of Playboy dolls with lingere, robes, slippers, etc that will sometimes fit. Apparently they're fairly cheap on Ebay so if you're looking for that, there you go (the dolls are pretty weird, like most commercially made dolls of real people)

    57. I am amazed that CYGirl stuff fits. The size difference is huge and I didn't even think to try. I might still have some bits floating around (I sold all my femfigs). I wil give it a go. And, yes, pictures of that would be great. And of the Playboy stuff. What is the quality like on those as compared to, say, Barbie?
