Hello, I have some dolls (both blank and painted) that are in need of new faces. My favorite faceup artist raised her prices quite a lot so I was thinking I could ask you for some tips before I make any decision. The only requirement is that the atrist should be from Europe. Please share your favorite artists! Thank you in advance!
Maybe you should give a budget or some kind of range you feel comfortable paying? If the prices are too high of your favorite artist now, it might be likely that people will bring up options that are too expensive for you as well.
I don't really have any budget. The thing is that her prices got higher and there's nothing new. I wanted to see more artists and their work before making any final decisions. Don't want to come to the point when I find a new artist and tell myself "ahh man I wish they did faceups for my dolls". I'm willing to pay even more than my favorite artist asks for if it's really worth it. I want the best for my dolls.
Once you have MP access here you can review the Marketplace to see some faceup artist shops, but in the meantime, Instagram has some really great artists~ So I would recommend checking out the BJD faceup-related hashtags on Instagram. (bjdfaceup, faceupartist, etc) There are a lot of people offering commissions there, in all kinds of styles and price ranges.
I got DikaDoll Cain and am trying to figure out what kind of faceup to give him. He is my first doll and I am new to the hobby so I'm unsure how to go about how to paint it and what type of look would fit best with him Do faceup artist help you decide on a look for the doll? Do they base it descriptions? Or is there an options list they show you?
Each faceup artist has a different way of doing things but in general, they will help you decide on the look you want and will send you progress photos. Most have a guide on how their faceup procedures will go, so you should read those carefully before commissioning anything. As for how they help you decide, some faceup artists are able to work on a description of the style you want or the personality/backstory of your doll. Others require reference photos of some sort so that they have a better idea of what you want and what direction you want to go. Some have an options list that you can choose from. It really depends on the artist. Most faceup artists will have a portfolio of their past commissions or samples of their work, so I'd suggest you look through these portfolios to see if there's anything that strikes your fancy. In most cases, you can ask them for something similar to their past work or samples.
