Aesthetics Faceup Critique

Jun 15, 2019

    1. Hi! I was wondering if anyone could please critique these face ups.

His closed eye is meant to be recently lost/blackened.

      Thanks in advance!

    2. Lookin' great! I love the subtle freckling. The blushing around the sides of the nose/temples/etc. is really nice too, I feel like darkening that a bit could give the face even more dimension.

I'm no expert on really realistic wounds, but a cool thing about bruises is that they can be really colorful. I think yours is fine as it is, and has a nice natural splotchy look, but since it's fresh I would be tempted to go even purpler! Just looking on google (I had to double check lmao) it seems like black eyes start out with really bright reds, blues and purples and sort of fade and yellow over time. I don't know if it's necessary to be gruesomely accurate but I think the bright colors can be sort of a fun and really draw your attention.

    3. The first one reminds me of
kylo ren. Would love to have a doll like him .

    4. It seems like you don't thin your paints, at least it looks that way from the eyebrows. To do nice eyebrows first lightly blush and erase their base, seal, and afterwards paint the single hairs either with watercolor pencil OR thinned acrylic paint. Either use water or something like flow-aid to thin.

    5. I agree with Ara, the only thing I'd change are the eyebrows to make the hairs look thinner. The rest looks pretty cool, in fact I can't look at it calmly because I'm a bit apprehensive to wounds, blood and bruises, and they look realistic enough, lol!

    6. Your freckling, blushing and wounds look superb! Only thing that needs practice and improving is your line work, thinning your paint before applying might help it apply more smoother :-)

    7. LOL, best pencil toppers ever! I'm going to be repetitive and agree with the people who've already commented about thinning the lines - plus, forgive me if they were meant to, but the lower lips look a little - splotchy, maybe? That aside, I think you did a really great job with the freckles, shading around the eyes, scars and bruises. Nice work!

    8. Thank you! I've been trying to layer up the colors for the eye, but my pastels aren't behaving properly. I might switch to acrylics and see how that goes.

It's the fashion sized Dollshe Arsene. I based the scarring off a pic I found on google for dog bite wounds. If I realized that it resembled Kylo Ren... I might've changed it.

Thank you so much! I've been using water colors, and haven't touched them in years. I guess it shows. I'll take them off and try and redo them in acrylic.

Ah, sorry about that! I have a pretty big tolerance for stuff like that (job habituation I guess), and don't always register that other people get queasy looking at wounds

Thank you! I've noticed that my lines don't always go where I want them to.

It's the easiest way I've found to spray multiple heads at once, and (as you can see from Mr. Off-topic, a 1/6 scale military model) it works for all sized heads. The lips are meant to be, hrm, that stage just before they get chapped, like they're dry, and you need to go put on chapstick. Both characters are meant to be professional monster hunters (hence why they're so beat up), and I didn't want to give them plush glamorous lips. If its not clear, though, I'll have to refine them.

    9. No, I can completely see that! It's hard to do a good evaluation when you don't know exactly what you're looking at. I'll bet that once they are complete and dressed, they'll look great! :)

    10. I've worked on the eyebrows and added some detail to the bruising.
