Aesthetics Epidos the dragon/merman? WIP *update stringing and parts 23 oct

Aug 18, 2011

    1. This is the most incredible mod I've ever seen Q_Q Maybe it can give me inspiration for a naga boy.
      *waits patiently for more updates*

    2. So creative and neatly done! The scales texture is just amazing!

    3. OMG I wish I could have something like that for one of my dolls:D So jealous:lol:

    4. woow very beutiful can you make more pics ?

    5. I'll probably put more pics up after i manage to get some apoxie sculpt? and finish the tail up -->
and after i try painting it ^^'

but that will be months later since i can't order any at the moment because i'm going on holiday soon and worried about when the mail will come.

So yeah, more pics much much later.

    6. Like I said on DA he is awesome!! I love all the details and the fins. Seeing him kneeling is just amazing >_<

    7. I think all I can say is: Wow!

    8. :o
Wooooooow.... You are doing what I have been waiting for companies to do at some point. And I think you are doing it better than they might!
That is art and skill, well done. All the joints look nice and it seems they will work really well! The outlook is very flashy, very detailed.

Good luck with finishing this! :D

    9. Wow, this is incredible!! *A*

    10. lovely *_*

    11. I'm officially impressed... I love the detail and work you've put into this! It's amazing! :o

    12. I can't believe this is made from Sculpey! I've never been able to do anything so dramatic with sculpey before!

Let me know if you ever get tired of him, I'll gladly take him off your hands!

    13. LOL! After all the blood, sweat and tears? He's actually sitting in pieces until i get some Apoxie sculpt or whatever........that's going take forever Q.Q
I'm glad he's turning out so well ^^. Wasn't sure at all how it was all going to turn out because i made him on the fly ~ that and i had to buy all these new clay tools, sandpaper and anything else i would have needed to sculpt clay --> literaly spent hundreds because he was my first ever clay project
he's currently priceless to me =P

    14. Just wanted to add that if you are worried about the durability of the tail you could always get someone to cast it. It's not really that hard :)

Oh, and having done extensive work with apoxie sculpt be patient :) it's a bit sticky and different to handle than many other clays but the results you can get are worth it!

    15. I would DIE if someone cast this in resin. I've wanted a 'Naga'/mermaid since I joined the hobby way back when ;^;

    16. Amazing work! Thank you so much for posting this for all of us to oogle and stare! You're very talented!

    17. I think silverbeam is planning on doing a 3d printed naga/ merman, tail eventually. She was thinking something smiliar in joint sections as your tail. I talk with her a lot, she has so many different projects and plans. :D

I was thinking maybe Styrofoam or a cloth version tail myself.

You have awesome detail! It's a lovely design. If his joint sections fit in together better, I would even call it professional grade!

    18. GORGEOUS!!! I've been wanting to make a mermaid myself but this is x10,000 better than anything I could make! :o

    19. I have to ask since in the photos it looks like all the scales are exactly the same size, what tool did you use to do that? It looks absolutely incredible!

    20. wow awesone job

    21. Cupcake icing texture sheet (fishscale pattern) rolled through a pasta machine

thanks for the compliment XD --actually i should be glad my photography skills suck because you really cant see the ugly flaws in it :P
I'm hoping to order some after my trip so hopefully it works out. I did get some epoxie putty used for plumbing to mix and see how it'll turn out but its not as hard as i'd like
but even though recasting sounds great - it sounds expensive QAQ (esp for a multi-part super large tail)

    22. That is very clever! Thank you for sharing :aheartbea

    23. If you ever cast the tail would you cast a second one? I would really LOVE to have one.
I would just have to save-up for one xD

What I heared from friends who casts some little self-made hand, ear, of tailparts: One of the most expensive things is the silicone for the casting.

When they cast they often have flaws like bubbles in it which can break the resin or you can see them and so on. So they have many tries before they succseed.

    24. Not sure if its good enough to cast and sell because it'll be too expensive- that tail is over 60cm and has how many parts? may as well get a
[h=1]Asleep Eidolon Mermaids[/h]which are SO DAMN GORGEOUS and yet I cant afford one QAQ

Yeah i heard casting is very difficult~

    25. I still think I prefer yours over those ones you linked <.< <3

    26. wow this is amazing! a little bit freaky but so amazing! congratulations you did a fantastic job!

    27. I got the apoxie sculpt! and it works like a charm
      more photo's added

and now i'm cheating and he can sit up 8D

    28. If you ever decide to take commish let me know i'd pay for this any day! He's too gorgeous for words -stares is awe- btw what part of oz are you? -waves from qld- :)

    29. Perth WA =D!

    30. double post ^^' - but i'ce modded the bum again and he can now sit up without having me switch his second segment around.
Photo's added to the first page!

      oh - and @
      Fox_the_Gamer

Sorry - dont take commisions (coz i think the projects are too long and costly and it wont be worth it for my sculpting) Also - this guy is mine - i'll keep him for a long long time.
So unless i can find a mold maker who can cast him in perth - i wont make any more mermans/maids

    31. Your detail work is incredible.

    32. Wow. That is amazing. Can't wait to see it with color!

    33. You know...every time I catch an update on this guy in this thread, I fall even more in love with him! He's just AMAZING!

    34. it is wonderful...so wonderful!!!! was never a fan of merman type dolls....but yours is awsome!!!!!wow....really great work

    36. Wow! :o Great work!

    37. Whoa, he looks amazing! Can't wait to see him finished! :)

    38. This is beyond amazing. I wish I could do that but sadly I have no skills in sculpting what so ever.

    39. Very impressive. Did you have a mold, or didi you just go to work?
      It is quite beautiful indeed!

    40. Very impressive. Did you have a mold, or did you just go to work? <BR>It is quite beautiful indeed!

    41. Holy moly, that's a great deal of detail. Very well done, I wonder, how did you achieve the texture of the scales?

    42. That looks amazing! Is he very heavy?

    43. mold? nope - just got the torso and started slapping on the sculpey clay around it ^^' - then i worked around what i got

eh... define heavy. he's about as heavy as a 70cm bjd with a tad bit more weight

      fishscale cupcake texture sheet

    44. have seen this thread a couple of times (not sure why I havent commented before) but - wow, he is amazing and the posing range is so impressive - the best merman I have seen :aheartbea you have inspired me to to do that modding I have been putting off (a Bast head - not a merperson ;)) please keep updating your thread with any further mods/painting :D

    45. Great detail! amazing work!

    46. Even though i haven't added anything to the tail - I recently got this beautiful outfit off the net and edited slightly to fit my baby and still show off his lil fins/wings X)
(I'm so slack - I cant be bothered to paint him)

he's really starting to look like an oriental dragon/merman X)

    47. Amazing! Can't believe you just did all this kinda on a whim! Can't wait to see it finished!

    48. wow did you make the tail

    49. YUP i did X)

    50. This is an absolutely fantastic mod. Beautifully done. <3

Something to consider for painting/blushing: mica powder. Because the only thing better than a fantastic dragon-merman-thing, is a fantastic shimmery dragon-mermaid-thing. :D

    51. That is just amazing! I can't wait to see him all painted and ready!

Wish I was as talented... <3

    52. He looks really cool so far! Can't wait to see him finished! n_n

    53. Oh my god, this is incredible! I love seeing all mods but this is definitely one of my favorites. It inspires me to eventually do some of my own. Great work, looking forward to seeing more. :)
