Thank you very much, phanuel! Really happy you like it! And yes - herding cats sums it up quite well - lol!
I've been sick all week so haven't felt up to taking pictures, but I did finally get around to putting up some doll profiles. I had to save a few spaces for some incoming ones and I almost forgot to include a Catsy!! But I did sneak in Purley and Medea. I hope I see some other Catsy girl and boy profiles eventually. There aren't a whole lot of anthros in general so far.
I had a goal of getting all my dolls new profile photos before the whole profile section even hit the forum. Sadly I broke my only "photo" light (a daylight desk lamp). So now I need a new light before I can start on that. Once I do I will be happy to add my two Catsys to there!
Just color me clueless - this is the first I've heard of it. I don't generally visit through the home page, but rather directly to tiny doll section. I'll have to go check it out - thanks for mentioning it phanuel & Tonboko!
Those are great pics, phanuel! I love how adorable Phaedra looks sleeping on that couch - that would make for an excellent pic just on it's own! She's so sweet and peaceful. And unfortunately, totally unaware of Purley stepping out on her with that vixen, Mary - lol! Your Mary works out well in pics with them! I love small scale fashion dolls, but finding clothes for them is not easy. Nice to see she can wear some of Catsy's clothes, too!
Thanks, Cattwo! Mary is wider in the shoulders than Catsy so the dresses and tops don't always close all the way in the back, but they're still okay for photos.
I have been lucky today and won an original catsy on eBay. I have tried to find information on how to change her booted legs to the other legs but can't find that information anywhere. Can anyone please point me in the right direction please?
You found a Catsy on ebay?? I just looked last night and did not see any, nor do I see any in the completed listings. If you do not mine sharing the auction title, I would be grateful so I can see how they worded it. I need an original one myself at some point. To change her legs you will want to have some sturdy thread (or fishing line), a needle, a toothpick, and a pair of nail scissors. Catsys do not have s-hook. The elastic is tied on directly to the parts. Pull the boot down and stick the toothpick though the elastic so it goes across the joint. Cut the thread that is tying the boot onto the elastic being careful to not cut the elastic itself. If you do not want to use new elastic, you will have to use your thread (or fishing line to make a loop) that goes from the knee joint to just above the ankle. Try that loop to the elastic. Using another piece of thread/line make a loop (you do need to tie this one) though the loop you tied onto the elastic. Use the tails of the second loop and tread them through the lower leg part. Once that is done you can remove the toothpick and pull the first loop though the lower leg. Use the toothpick to keep the thread/line from going back up into the leg. Now tie the loop to the foot and you should be all set. If you have questions, please ask and I will try to help. I know I am not the best at explaining things.
Congratulations, deedee71! I hope you enjoy having Catsy in your doll family! There used to be a great tutorial on changing the parts back when Elfdoll still had their regular site, but it's pretty much like Tonboko said. The current elastic in the legs should be able to be stretched and threaded right down through the lower leg parts by using that fishing line or strong thread method. Then just attach the feet parts by tying them onto the elastic with another piece of line or thread. Do the same thing with the other leg. It sounds more complex than it is and I know a lot of people are intimidated by Catsy's small size, but she's basically strung like any other bjd - arms to arms, head through torso and loop divided into two loops, one for each leg.
Thanks cattwo. That is very helpful. I was afraid she would be wearing her boots forever but now I have the confidence to change her legs. Thankyou so much xxx
You're very welcome, deedee71! Tonboko's post, just above mine, goes into it in more detail and you can always check You-tube tutorials on stringing Elfdoll's larger dolls. It's done in much the same way, except that Catsy doesn't use s-hooks, as Tomboko mentioned. You just tie the feet on. Once you get your Catsy's regular legs on, if you're interested in getting shoes for her, she can wear Heidi Ott's dollhouse dolls' shoes, so long as they are the softer type of plastic (they're the Women's ones that come in white, black or red and have pom poms or bows on them - not the display type). Catsy can also fit into most of Barbie's little sisters shoes - Kelly's shoes in some cases and almost all of Chelsea's.
Hi tonboko, Sorry for the late reply, I hope you get a catsy soon too xxxx I got catsy on eBay from Europe. On EBay, she was described as: BJD Elfdoll Tiny Doll Original Catsy cat white skin Thank you for the restringing instructions. She looks cute in her boots but would be nice to change her to her feet xxx
I just went through the thread again and noticed something - I love how shrinkomatic's and phanuel's cats have human servants! I'm LOLing! I'm the only human servant my catsies have at the moment.
@Ballerina, I guess Catsys have human servants just like real cats! Haha. It's nice to see activity on this thread again. I've been too lazy about taking pics of my clan.
@Cattwo, how did I miss these? So great to see your clan! Wonderful clothes and props. That wig! I have taken a pic of my four for National Cat Day but I'm not sure when I'll post it since it's on Sunday. It's been awhile since I photographed them so I thought it was their turn. Plus I usually avoid putting the white and black resin in the same shot because it's hard to get the lighting right, but decided to get them all together for this one.
Thank you for the nice comment, phanuel! It's a quiet thread these days, so it's easy to miss a post on it. Love your pic - saw it on flickr and it made me smile to see your Catsy clan together again! I understand what you mean about taking a pic of both the black and white ones together - it's tough for me to get the lighting right, too. I always put the black one where it gets the most light, but even then, it's a bit of a crap shoot. You did a great job with this one! I'd like to take a Halloween themed pic of my guys, but my legs aren't so good these days and it can be tough to do the amount of set-up they demand, without losing steam halfway through. BTW - did you see the new Mini Brioche? I think the light gray would look great with your larger butter one, but I'm not sure it would look good with my mint one. I may wait for another color, which is probably best, because I don't really have the extra money right now and still have one more payment on Mialypso to go. Then there is the fact that I already have Catsy cats that are gray, too. Would really like something different.
@Cattwo, yes, I also try to direct my light source on black Catsy full face and get a little shadow on the others, not easy. I've taken a number of Halloween pics this year already but none with the Catsys, they got National Cat Day and that will have to do! I ordered the Mini Brioche as soon as I saw it. I really liked the idea of the smaller version but my buying it was totally dependent upon the color and gray was just what I wanted. I have a real gray kitty myself and I never got the gray Catsy so I thought the Pepper color was perfect. I probably shouldn't spend the money but at least with anthros I tend to get my money's worth. The last SD-size head I got is one of the most beautiful I've seen and yet I'm just not motivated to do much with her. But I'm always taking pics of my critters. I've already sold a few of my bigger dolls and I'll probably list a few more. It might help me to get more organized too.
Congratulations, phanuel! So happy to hear a Mini Brioche is coming to your house! I'm looking forward to the pics you'll take of this little gray one - you always come up with such fun photo ideas! I'm also glad I'm not the only one who makes a choice dependent on the color. I love gray kitties and all of the real ones in my life were gray - even one of my current guys is gray in a sense, with his blue point markings. But since I got the mint Brioche, I think I need a color that will play off it a bit better and I don't want to over-shadow my gray Catsy cats, either. I think that would be very easy to do with a Brioche - those cats have so much character. I also know what you mean about anthros. They were my first love in the BJD world and they remain so. My DH has kidded me about my Catsy cats, saying of all the dolls I have - some of which are quite extraordinary and dear to my heart - I'd probably save my Catsies in a fire first. There is just something special about them and my other anthros, too. Really love them.
I haven't posted this one in this thread and I doubt folks look at the old ones, so figured it would be nice to add a seasonal touch: The Headless Horsecat
That's a great photo, @Cattwo! Poor headless kitty. I love what you've done with the color and the background is perfect.
Thank you @spensers_mom! Here's a newer Catsy pic for you: HAPPY HALLOWEEN! Someone put too much catnip in the cauldron again!
@Cattwo --Rainman is back with a new Elfdoll site: ELF DOLL So far he just has one MSD-size girl and a few clothing items. I doubt if he'll go back to Catsys but it will still be interesting to see what he does come up with.
Lol, that did not stop me from asking about the Catsys! Everyone, flood the Q&A! Let's get the Catsys back!!!
Thanks for sharing the info @phanuel! I rather doubt he'll go back to Catsy, too, since it seems most artists prefer to move on from past works. Doesn't mean you can't ask, Tonboko - please let us know if he replies to your request! It seems hard enough to get artists to make other versions of their most popular dolls. Why that is remains a mystery to me, especially if we're talking about a best seller. But I don't know how popular Catsy ever really was - certainly was always #1 with me. My tiny Elfdoll girls still haven't had their pics taken years after I got them. Catsy always steals the show.
Ermygursh!!! This is what I was told: Hello dear, Thank you so much for your interest on Catsy. We will put Catsy to our next release list. Warm regards, Oka
@Tonboko, really?! Wow! Can't wait to see if they tweak her as they've done before with each new release.
What great news! Thanks for sharing it, Tonboko! Not that I personally need another Catsy, mind you, but I think it's wonderful for those who have been wanting one. Would love it if they came out with another, different style one, too. Or different colors.
It would be nifty if they offered pick a Catsy, pick a color. I have wanted to get an original one in that lovely grey color they used for Catsy 2. Already have a name for her. I need my trio completed!
Lol! That is the beautiful part about them! There are always room for more! I am trying to figure out how I am going to afford them all.... they were around $280 last time, correct?
I think that's about right, Tonboko. Something just south of $300, unless you were adding a Reminisce head. I hope you get yourself a grey one! Here's a pic of the female and male together - only difference, beside the bodies, of course, is that female has painted lashes:
I'd actually like to see some done in an array of pastel fantasy colors - the way Pipos has in the past. I love blue resin and even though I made myself a pink Catsy, I'd love one is a softer pink.
Yeah, I'm still imagining that pink Catsy, also some new clothes and maybe new shoe feet! On the other hand, I just ordered the gray mini-Brioche from Nympheas Dolls so I'm not too keen on spending more $$$ on kitties.
I like that idea of more shoe feet, phanuel! And ones in other colors, too. Orange Catsy was never able to wear the heels. so it would be nice if she got some. For me, I would only buy another Catsy if it was significantly different - like a nice pink or blue one. It's tough for me to pass on a cat bjd that I love and now, thanks to you, I have an egg on my want list, too - lol!
@Cattwo, I do love my egg! You know, I really wish they'd make one in tan resin, but I can't see that happening. I suppose one could be dyed or "blushed" tan to look like a brown egg, if they ever do sell him again.
Well, they've released him at least twice that I know of, because I know I've been tempted by him twice before. So I'd say there may be a decent chance of them offering him in tan. They may even offer him in fantasy colors around Easter - you never know. But I do like the one you have now - I love his face-up and the way his eyes can be positioned to give him even more expression. Plus, in your hands - gosh, you just find the best ways to show him off! The themes, the props - he's in eggs-ellent hands! (Sorry - couldn't resist the pun!) I do hope they release him again, when I have the dough to buy him. He looks like a lot of fun.
Thanks, @Cattwo! I should probably start planning for Easter right now! I don't think I'll have time for any more Christmas photos, unfortunately, my mother-in-law is spending the weekend with us which means a total house-cleaning I've seen the egg with other face-ups, all nice, but I'm glad I got the company one--it does suit him. I suppose it's not improbable that they'll release him again and he wasn't that expensive in bjd terms, under $250 including face-up and shipping! They have a "choco skin" for their human dolls that would be perfect for a brown egg but I don't think it would occur to them to offer it. We need egg diversity!
Elfdoll seems to be back in doll business! I found them on Instagram with a link to the Elfdoll website. No Catsies listed, but they're back! ELF DOLL @phanuel @Cattwo
I had planned to take a photo of my new Mini Brioche and the little girl, but Purley was looking at me with sad expectant eyes and I had to include him too. Flossie, Magnus, and Purley by Nadine, on Flickr
Aww, nice to see Purley included in this shot, @phanuel! Your Mini Brioche looks a little apprehensive about it, though, but very sweet! Thanks for sharing it! It's good to see how Mini Brioche compares to a Catsy. I'm hope to get a Mini Brioche in the not too distant future.
@Hamadryad , do you post pictures? I'd love to see your Mini B. @Cattwo, I had Purley out to borrow his body because I wanted to see Magnus in that 18th Century Catsy outfit which, of course, doesn't fit the pudgy Brioche. When I went to put Purley back in his box he looked so disappointed. I know it's silly but I just felt I should take his picture too. I look forward to seeing photos when you get your little Brioche, I'm sure you have some great ideas for him.
Well, I always enjoy seeing Purley, so there was a plus side to Magnus not fitting in that outfit. One thing I really love about cat dolls is how much one can differ from another in style. I remember a discussion in this thread about someone wishing there was a chubby Catsy and I think Mini Brioche does a good job of filling that void. With regard to getting a Mini B myself, I'm just waiting on one that will make a good compliment to my Mint Brioche. I'll probably take pics of the big and the mini interacting a lot, so I want their colors to look good together. Your two look so cute and purr-fect together in your pics, so that's what I'm aiming for!
Great pic, @phanuel! Love that Rainman designed Catsy to be grumpy, even before there was a Gurmpy Cat. Was sad to hear about the real-life Grumpy Cat, though - only 7 years old, too. Glad Catsy can carry on the tradition!
I love seeing your black Catsy (and all of your Catsys, for that matter!) I really wish they would be released again.
