Elfdoll Catsy discussion thread 2

Jun 1, 2011

    1. That's a terrific pic, phanuel! Leave it to you to know how to use those tea cups with you Catsy in the most wonderful way - really love all those colors and the vintage vibe! :fangirl:

    2. All of your Catsys look awesome!

    3. So happy - my ginger catsy is here, and v gorgeous! So the pair of them can hang out together now...

    4. Fabulous! But I can't help wondering what the waiter is really thinking.

    5. "If they think it's funny to ask for a meowhito and a mai tail one more time, so help me..."

    6. Great pic - your ginger Catsy looks happy to be home! Congrats again on getting her, shrinkomatic! :kitty2

    7. Thanks phanuel and Cattwo! I think she's decided it's time for a snack now :)

    8. Homegrown sushi!! Great photo.

    9. Great pic, shrinkomatic! You have one very clever kitty there - she doesn't have to leave home to shop for dinner! :kitty2

    10. Well, I broke down and asked Oka if there was any chance of them ever making an original style Catsy in grey skin. She is going to ask Rainman for me if something can be done!

I may need to do a group order to meet a minimum number of them. Would anyone here be interested in getting one?

This is nothing official yet, but I do want to gauge interest. If I get the green light from Elfdoll, will of course start a thread in the MP.

    11. The original sculpt in any new color would be of interest to me. But those little buggers are pricey so it would also depend upon my finances at the time they're available.

    12. I hear you on that! Wouldn't it be great if they were able to give us a price close to the discount prices they had going before they pulled all the dolls?

I dream big, I know. :sweat

Silly Catsy... the potato chips of BJDs. They are small so you think "Oh, I can just have one, maybe two"... and we all know what that leads to...

    13. Newbie here-wondering if it's still possible to get a Catsy! Thank you.

    14. Sadly not at the moment. They do pop up in the Marketplace and on eBay at time though. And I am trying to convince Elfdoll to make more as well. :)

    15. Thanks for the info, Tonboko! I will keep an eye on eBay, and hopefully make into to the Marketplace soon. Have a great night!

    16. Sadly Elfdoll is not willing to work with us to get a Grey Catsy order going. Maybe it is life telling me two is company and three is a crowd?

    17. Sorry to hear this, Tonboko! I hope they eventually reconsider and accept orders for their Catsy dolls again. I'm not sure what's going on with Elfdoll these days. They haven't updated their site in months and it's like they just want to clear out stock on hand. With most shops, that usually signals closure. I hope it isn't the case with Elfdoll. Catsy was my very first bjd and still a real favorite of mine. I don't think any other company has come out with a anthro cat bjd, in her scale, that is as fun and charming. Anyway, if they dont make Catsy anymore, I do hope you're able to find one in the marketplace or on ebay! :kitty2

Hope you're able to find one, too, orinoco_flow! :kitty2

    18. I wonder if Rainman has another, more mundane job. Or, if Elfdoll closes, he will work for another company.

orinoco_flow, at the time I got my first Catsy, from the DoA marketplace, Elfdoll wasn't making them. Then they started producing them again. That may not happen this time, but they do pop up on the second-hand market occasionally.

    19. Thanks phanuel and Cattwo re the photo! Such a shame re the grey catsy Tonboko, that would be on my wish list if they had a change of heart, sigh... orinoco_flow, there is a new orange catsy up for sale in the Marketplace at the moment, if you search the Asian dolls - tiny thread...

    20. Just wanted to say YES! I'm interested in a group order for Grey Catsys, male and/or female! It's a shame Elfdoll wasn't willing to put together an order for us.

I did pick up that Orange Catsy on the MP! She is just the sweetest thing ever! I will post some pictures soon. So glad to finally own one!

Do people restring their Catsys? My girl's left arm is a little snappy.

Thanks for sharing so much info and all the photos! I'm really enjoying them. :)

    21. I have had to restring one of my girls once as she broke her arm (OMs.Cholong was still working with Elfdoll at the time as was able to get me a new piece). I used thread and a needle to resting her (loop the thread around the elastic look and use the needle to pull it through the parts).

I never put new elastic in either one of my girls. Neither one ever seemed to need it. I did suede my original Catsy though by placing a bit of modeling masking tape in each hip to give a little grip in the socket.

    22. Thank you, Tonboko!

Sueding was my next question. Orange Catsy has a case of the flappys!

Here are a few pictures. I hope to take better ones eventually. I'm 100% completely new to all things BJD.

I've a long way to go before my photos are as good as all of yours. But isn't she so sweet?! :)

      Thanks for reading!

    23. Congratulations, orinoco_flow! I saw your Catsy in the marketplace and thought she looked like a great deal and a real cutie. I'm so glad you were able to get her.

    24. Congratulations, orinoco_flow! The orange girl is a real sweetie and I'm glad you were able to find one in the MP! I'm hoping that Elfdoll will eventually offer Catsy in all the colors again someday. Love your Catish avatar - those are very cool dolls, too! :kitty2

With regard to re-stringing, the two arms are usually strung together and separate from the other parts, so it shouldn't be difficult to do. You can also wire the legs to make them less kicky. I've used thin pipe cleaners in the legs before. They won't fit in those tiny arms, though.

    25. Is Oka no longer with Elfdoll???

    26. Oh SNAP, I meant Ms.Cholong! Lol got the two of them mixed up!

    27. Thank you, one and all!

I will think about restringing her later, or sueding her. Right now I'm too afraid and inexperienced to mod her in any way.

    28. This could be someone's lucky day, perhaps. I am considering selling my original-type Catsy (no magnets, human hands) with all her original stock, 2nd production run. Can someone point me in the right direction in terms of where/how to get a price check? Or should I just put up a sale thread?

    29. I would say just put up a sale thread!

    30. Hello everyone! I was lucky enough to finally have a Catsy join my dollie collection this week, from Taruto .
So far I am trying my small supply of Kelly clothes on her, which seem to work pretty well. Catsy in Africa, from a Barbie/Chelsea set

My next wish would be for a black Catsy. I see one on eB** but way too expensive for me. They are so rare, I can understand the price.

    31. Love the ear headband! And welcome to the Catsy thread. There are still some sites that sell Catsy-size clothes if you're looking--in different styles and price ranges.

The black Catsy on eBay does look in very good shape. No scuffing of the silver sandals is one way to tell. I got mine from Junky Spot in 2009 and I never saw any for sale on doll sites after that.

    32. Yay! Nice to see my old Catsy going on adventures!

    33. Congratulations on adding a Catsy to your bjd family, jarmie! :cheer She sure looks adorable in that outfit - great pic! :fangirl:

Interestingly enough, it took awhile for Black Catsy to sell out. She was done in a limited edition of 40 and available only from dealers in the United States. I bought mine through Denver Doll Emporium. The original price for her was $290 and I mention this because the seller on ebay is accepting offers on her. So if anyone is interested, now you know how much she originally cost. That doesn't mean that this seller didn't pay more if she bought her doll on the secondary market, but I've personally never seen a Black Catsy get anywhere near that kind of price. Black Catsy is a great doll, though. Here's a pic of mine, in another outfit, along side a seated cat body and an additional body holding her "reminisce" (sleeping) head:

Just an additional note - it appears that this auction does not include her bare feet. Black Catsy came with both the high heel pair and a bare feet pair, plus fist hands in addition to her paw hands. So this ebay listing is missing these additional parts plus it's box.

    34. Great info! I wondered if the Catsy for sale was really a complete one. Doesn't hurt to make an offer I guess! And Cattwo - your catsies are Fabulous!

    35. [emoji76] so super cute! Thanks for sharing the photos and info, jarmie and Cattwo.

Do all black Catsys have pierced ears? I notice the one on eBay does, like the one pictured here.

Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

    36. I would think this is true for all their OE heads, since they're all part of a limited edition set with faceup. Am I right?

    37. Thank you, jarmie! And yes, it never hurts to make an offer - worst they can do is say no and there is always a chance they'll say yes. Whereas, if you never make an offer, the answer is always no. So if you love her, go for it! :kitty2

      Thank you, orinco_flow! :kitty2

Yes, you're correct, Taruto. All the Black Catsy cats have a double piercing in their one ear. The reminisce head, made available later as a separate purchase, does not. I tried to buy a newer style body for my Black Catsy at that time, too. One that had the magnetic feet and paws, but Elfdoll wasn't able to match the black resin, so they had to cancel my order and removed that option from their site. However, they gifted me that additional black body. It was used on one of their prototypes. It only came with the bare feet and paw hands - no additional parts, but I was very grateful to receive it. I don't have to switch feet out now - just bodies. :kitty2

    38. But black catsy didn't come with the reminisce head, I know mine didn't, and she was still a limited edition; I got mine firsthand from Doll Peddler. Wasn't her reminisce head a limited time promo from Elfdoll? I never knew they offered it until after the fact.

    39. Yes, that's partially correct, DanceCat. And that's why I said in my post above "The reminisce head, made available later as a separate purchase..." It wasn't available until the release of the new Catsy versions - the orange & grey. That's when they also started offering body parts sold separately, including reminisce heads for all 4 color versions. They really didn't limit the promo period for the black one. All were available for like a couple years at least. What they did do was limit the time in which, if you bought a complete cat, with it's reminisce head, they included the sitting body for free. They did that for about 6 months, I think. After that time, you had to buy it separately. So when I bought my 3 magnetic females (a white, orange and grey) all came with the free sitting body because I bought the complete sets. But I had to buy the black seated body and reminisce head separately. As luck would have it, when I bought my orange and grey males later on and both at the same time, I never added their reminisce heads to my order, but Elfdoll gifted me heads for both of them. This was shortly before they stopped making the grey male available. :kitty2

    40. Oh! I didn't catch that.
Also didn't know they had the heads available for so long. I wasn't familiar with Elfdoll; then they went "private" for a while so that you had to be a member to order, my first official (direct from Elfdoll) order was placed through a friend whom had membership. I didn't even get to place the order! So I was actually unfamiliar with Elfdoll for a while, even when I started pulling in Catsies. I missed a lot of stuff. :(

    41. I forgot about that, DanceCat! I don't know why Elfdoll ever did that, especially just as they were launching new products. It never made any sense to me that they would want to restrict their site like that. Sorry you missed out on that black reminisce head and other stuff you may have wanted! Hope you get another chance at getting those items someday!

    42. I think that is why I never managed to buy a Catsy before. When I was looking originally Elfdoll had gone "private" - very frustrating at the time. I guess I never caught on that other doll sellers would carry them. Ah well. Just glad we have the Marketplace!

My little catsy, from a photo shoot with my friend who has a miniature candy store. She looks like a bit of a giant next to the lady behind the counter but other things seem to work I think.

And warming herself by the stove, a very catlike thing to do, yes?

    43. That's a wonderful setting, I love the flooring! What a nice visit for your Catsy but isn't there a mouse somewhere?

    44. I love your country store, jarmie! It's wonderful and has so many great details! I think your Catsy looks very cute in it, too, and yes, so very cat-like for her to make warming herself by the stove her first priority! :kitty2

    45. Celebrating with a glass of milk - yes!

    46. Great pic, phanuel! Love all those wonderful little details, especially that typewriter! :kitty2

    47. jarmie, both Archie and Purley love their milk!

Thanks, Cattwo, the typewriter is from Heidi Ott.

    48. I've been trying to think of what to do for this year's Halloween Catsy pic. Wanted to do something Zombie, but I couldn't put something like that together quick enough. Then I got to thinking about a current favorite TV show of mine, "Sleepy Hollow". So here's my Catsy version of the Headless Horseman -

      The Headless Horsecat
      [IMG]

I went with using Murray, my orange guy, because I wasn't sure I could pull off the effect of just having the head be orange like a pumpkin and the rest done in warmed up sepia, but it worked. I also gave the horse a red demonic eye, but it doesn't show as well as I hoped. Anyway, I hope you enjoy it!

      Happy Halloween!

    49. As I mentioned on flickr, I think this is great! Wonderful concept and execution, right down to the riding boots. Eerie background too.

    50. Thank you very much, phanuel! I really appreciate your nice comments, both here and on flickr, too! That background is the same one I used as a Fall background on other pics, but yeah, it really becomes rather eerie looking in sepia. I got lucky with that. :kitty2

Thank you very much, jarmie! Your pic is great, too! I love those tiny skeletons you have and that tiny witch is adorable, too! They make the purr-fect Halloween companions for your Catsy! :fangirl:

    51. Nice photo, jarmie, I hope that isn't a kitty coffin she's sitting on!

    52. Preparing for the holidays...

the Catsy girls MUST get their nails done!

Wishing everyone a very Happy Holiday Season!

      :hollyberry

    53. Ooooo, mani pedi time! That's what I call it when my real kitties get their claws trimmed at the vet's.
Great photo, so much detail, love how the salon is decorated for Christmas. Hope you have a merry one!

    54. Thank you, phanuel! This little salon is one of the miWorld miniature sets - very easy to put together and since this one is a small set, cheap enough for me to give it a try to see if it would work for Catsy. Here's a link that shows the other sets: http://www.miworldtoys.com/

My real kitties have to put up with me doing their nails - lol! But they're both good boys and let me do it without putting up too much of a fuss. I hope you and yours have a very Merry Christmas, too! :kitty2

    55. I think it's time for some more Catsy photos. I've been remiss myself but I thought Phaedra would get along well with Olaf.
[IMG]Just right by bentwhisker, on Flickr

    56. That's an adorable pic, phanuel! I think your Phaedra will get along just fine with Olaf - looks like she'll keep him supplied with plenty of extra noses, too. :thumbup

I have been meaning to take a few Catsy pics, but the set up for them usually takes me so much time that I wind up just grabbing the easy point and shot stuff to take pics of. Hopefully, I'll get around to taking one soon, but sure glad you did! :kitty2

    57. Very cute- they work well together! I am always happy to see your catsy photos.
