Elfdoll Boy Mir Discussion

Jul 25, 2007

    1. Now that´s a case of Rainman Did It Again...and what a stunner he is. Though I´m not really into the "resin wig", it sure looks different, but IMO it narrows down the possibilities of this gorgeous boy. I keep my claws crossed for a bald-headed standard edition :).

    2. *stares at screen*

My dream boy. Seriously, he is 'due to lack of a better word, PERFECT!!' (Fifth Element quote). I love how he is very manly, sexy and Asian all in one. Rainman has REALLY outdone himself this time. Thank you so much for creating this gorgeous boy.

Will he be available as a normal edition at some point? I hope he will 'cause I don't think I could afford this version.

    3. Mm.. I'm definately hoping he'll be a normal edition as well. I agree, he's totally perfect! The only drawback I can see at all is the Resin Wig, but yeah, he's definately everything I've been wanting in a doll but have noticed a major lack of...

Gods, he's amazing.... I can't wait to get more money now LoL! I hope he comes out as a general Rainy Doll and not just limited. :D

Oh man... Elfdoll's owning my soul with its boys now LoL!

    4. I'm saved. It's hard for me to imagine that Rainman sculpted a boy I *don't* like, but Mir does absolutely nothing for me. In fact... active dislike of the resin hair - my first Barbie doll had molded hair way back when, and it reminds me of her. Ugh.

      I like his chin.

Dislike his smirk... too over the top.

      I LOVE his eyes!

But I don't like his nose. Dunno what that's all about.

Well there, one less in the competition to get one! :D

    5. Oh, good, he reminds me of my ex boyfriend... :sweat No need to covet him then!

    6. LOL.. well most of you know by now that he comes with the bald head, too. Elf Doll doesn't tend to tell us if there's a standard coming along later. :)

There are still some in stock, but my pre-order is secured! Time to find a "waiting for Mir" thread... ;)

    7. He is AWESOME! I'm not a huge fan of the molded hair, so I'm saved from spending so much money on him. I really do hope they'll release a standard version, as I really do want this boy. He's just perfect!

As for the resin hair, it's unique for sure, and I don't think it looks terrible. However, one of the things I love about this hobby is that I get to customize my characters however I want to. The resin hair would limit me from doing so. And I know he comes with a regular head as well, but I'd rather wait for the standard and spend less money, than buy the special at such a high cost to have a head I'll never use (and based on some comments I'm seeing - may not even be able to sell at the cost I'd be paying for it). However, this is such a minor complaint for me, as I really do LOVE this boy and will definitely buy the Standard (praying if/when he comes out there isn't another dolly I want at the same time).

      Craig

    8. He's really cool looking, though somehow reminds me of the Mattel Barbie line, "Flavas" with the whole hip hop influence. I'm not sure how I feel about that molded hair.:shudder

    9. I seem to be the only one who's selling off her bald head and keeping the resin. ;)

    10. I think he's really great, I adore his eyes. Rainman does know how to tempt us! ^^

    11. I like his facial looks but i don't want another special with an outfit. It just makes them too expensive for me. I'll wait to see if they have a standard version with the head for a wig. I do not like the resin hair at all.

I also like that he is taller so that he'd go well with the girls. I really wanted a male doll to match Ruru but this one would go nicely with my Soah.

    12. Oh, Merle, I could so see Mir and Soah together. The star crossed lovers. The sweet innocent girl falling for the bad boy. LOVE IT!

      Craig

    13. Well, to be honest i don't know what to make of him. I have seen another BJD with resin hair before (Heartsdoll) but it was removable so you could replace it with an ordinary wig so was wondering why they did'nt do this too.
In some pics he looks OK and in others he looks a bit out of proportion somehow, maybe it is just the angle the pic has been taken at.
There's just something about him that i can't take to, maybe i will like him better when i see owner pics - they usually show off dolls better in my opinion.
He's a strange one that's for sure - that is just my opinion - and normally i like the stranger looking dolls so don't know why he does'nt do it for me.
At least i don't have to add him to my ever growing 'want list'.

    14. Wow, I LOVE him!!! I adore how Elfdoll heads really have great expressions and very unique looks...Mir looks quite pissy!! And...sculpted hair??? That ROCKS!!

    15. i love the way he looks- he reminds me of bruce lee- and i like his bad boy style...

    16. I like the molded hair and sincerely hope that someone who dislikes it will sell me their extra head.

    17. Sigh...I caved....I just had to have this boy...I guess I'll be eating lots of ramen noodles and peanut butter sandwiches for the next three months! I'm not sure about the molded hair...it rather intrigues me. That said, I got the face up on the regular head...will decide if I want to face up the molded hair head when I see it...

    18. I love this boy, he's so cute!! However, the resin wig scares the heck out of me!! Reminds me of a Ken doll or something. I don't like the tattoo either. But if they make a standard that can wear regular wigs, with no tattoos, I will definitely buy him. Jiao Long has been wanting a boyfriend...

    19. I think if I read correctly, that tattoo is just a sticker. I kind of like it, but if it's a sticker, I doubt I'll use it as it might start to rub off and look icky.

    20. A sticker, eh? Well, it would make a cool sticker for sure, just not on my doll! lol That is interesting though... I didn't get a chance to read much because my mom was looking with me and she just wanted to see the pics. So I'll have to check on that again.

    21. I like his attitude. ^_^ If I can think of a suitable guy character, he'll be factored in as one of my choices.

    22. Congratulations Sharon! I can't wait to see photos of him at R-S and here when he arrives!!!!

Yes, the tattoo is a sticker, but I probably wouldn't use it either, though I think it looks good in the promo pics. :D

      Craig

    23. Must have misread something on one of the sites carrying him. *_* Thanks for clearing that up.

    24. He'd make a great Bi/Rain doll!! ^__^

    25. No problem! I was really confused at first too, especially with the option for painting one or both heads, ... one set of eyes, etc.

The resin wig reminds me of those guys in Harajuku with the slicked hair. But I do think he looks more Korean than Japanese tho... He's going to make a really great character.

      Catrina

    26. I'd say 'temporary tattoo' rather than sticker. A lot of doll companies seem to be doing that, and even Nabee had butterfly tattoos way back when. :)

I made a 'waiting for Mir' thread!

    27. Separated at birth?

Without the facial hair, for further proof:

Could it be Rainman is a School Rumble fan? ;)

    28. There is definitely an uncanny likeness...hmmm....

      Craig

    29. That molded on hair is sooooooooo wierd o.o Thank god you can ask for just the resin headcap x};;

    30. Hee hee! That's so cool! XD I'll have to tell my boyfriend about that one. He loves School Rumble.

    31. Actually you get a resin wig head and a bald head, both, so it's not optional. :D

I'm waffling like a presidential candidate. Maybe when my next Ruru payment is up (JL_Anderson... ;) ) I'll chuck him into the cart, too. After Ruru and a body for my Hugo-SW, I wasn't actually going to do anymore dolls. Famous last words.

I think he'd look great next to the Limhwa Mano I've been pining for. So he can be another doll, as well as an excuse for another doll. :sweat

*edit: Aaand, I put him on Layaway.

    32. I really love his eyes so much, not fond of the resin hair so I'm trying to imagine what he'll look like in a wig. I am so tempted, I like his bad boy look!

    33. Why...why did I look at this thread? Why did I click the link? *headdesk* Hes perfect....He suits a character I have better than any other doll Ive seen. >_<;;

    34. This is the first Rainman boy I really like, as a boy. I thought Wu would have made a wonderful girl, except for the resin matching issue.

However, the molded hair is absolutely ridiculous. If I wanted an action figure, I'd buy one of those, not a BJD. I'm going to wait until I can just get one head and body and have a nice normal Mir boy doll.

I'll be curious to see who buys the plethora of molded-hair heads that I suspect will hit the marketplace, and what people will do with them...

    35. I absolutely LOVE him. To me he looks just like Ryuhei Matsuda, my favourite actor .. *_* So. GORGEOUS. I wish I could afford him! T^T

    36. I actually like the molded hair head. It suits him perfectly and I'd never have to worry about stray hairs again. Yay!! :D

I just don't like the earring in his ear that comes with the head. Yeah, I know that sounds really silly but it's true. Guys with diamond earrings just don't do it for me.

    37. I really like the molded hair head too. ^-^ I've been wanting to do a Harima Kenji (from School Rumble) doll for a while now, and this is just too darn perfect.

I spazzed hard when Wotan pointed out the resemblance between Mir and Harima-kun. :D

      So, I guess that's one buyer for a molded hair head! ^^;

    38. I really like this sculpt. It's nice to see an Asian male (man's man...) BJD for a change. I hope this is a trend and they put out more variations on this. Oh I wish I had tons of money... I've been seeing too many dolls I want. I'm not a huge fan of the sculpted hair, but it's nice to see something new and with the regular head it gives you so many options!

      very cool!

      denkiva

    39. he was hyped up so much i expected a lot more. and now i'm kinda disappointed. I'd be lots more but i wasn't expecting to get him anyway. More for the weird resin hair thing than anything else. How does it work, do you just take off his "hair headcap" :? i gotta give it to them for trying a new thing, though.

    40. I know this might sound retarded but ....... could you actually request Elfdoll NOT to pierce his resinhair head?

'Cause I like the head, I just don't like my man with an earring.

    41. Oooh, he's great! It makes me happy to see more distinctly Asian-looking heads, especially boys. And masculine ones at that. There seem to be so few of them out there. Rainyman does it again!

I also kinda like the molded resin hair. I'm sure with the right paint-job, paint layering, dry-brush technique and gloss, it could look really real. I see tons of Asian guys around with that slicked-back hair, and I know that making a wig like that would be pretty tough, if not impossible (You'd have a hard time getting a fur wig to stay that flat, or any wig, without showing the wigcap).
I think that the hair is essentially a headcap- instead of a bald head, on one of the two heads, there's hair
it's actually a pretty interesting idea.

If the tattoo is a decal, I'm sure you could spray a bit of MSC over it, and it'd stay, I've seen a lot of people doing that for dolly tattoos ;)

    42. Wait a second - is he supposed to look like Samurai Jack?
Mr Rainyman does mention that he based him on a favorite cartoon character. I would be so amused if that turned out to be Jack!

    43. Wotan and I are of the opinion that he looks a lot like Harima Kenji from "School Rumble." XD ( It's that slicked-back hair that does it, I think.)

But it would be very interesting to know who Rainman had in mind when he sculpted Mir! :)

    44. hehe, wouldn't he make a nice Nightmare Detective with that facial hair shading Mir has in the promo pics? Mir just looks a little *too* healthy for the part methinks...
      *badly suppressed Ryuhei fan girl-squee*:D

    45. As far as I'm concerned, I don't like the resin hair, but I love his eyes :D !

    46. Someone asked this over at Elfdoll.com : Elfdoll plans to release a standard version of Mir in 2-3 months.

Just thought some of you'd like to know.

    47. He looks like a villain...and that molded hair....

      Well he's certainly different.

    48. Sounds great! :D

I wonder if he's going to release more resin hair as well....

    49. I LOVE him! He is actually my fave male doll, out of all the ones I've seen. I want him SO badly but, we're buying a house right now so I can't buy any dolls or doll stuff. :( Oh why did he have to come out now?

    50. Thanks for the new! I absolutely want this guy for my upgrade Ju-ken, but there is no way I can afford the limited release... Good to hear he'll go standard so I can get him at that time :)

    51. I just thought of dry-brushing white in, especially at the temples. I have a really nice 60cm suit, too . . . .

I think Mir would work pretty well as a bishseinen (sp, sorry).

    52. I think I like his basic face sculpt, but I want to see him done up with a more realistic, mature look. I would really love to see some pictures of his other head with and without a wig.

    53. I love how realistically asian he looks, and the vibe he has is so unique, but the face-up on the pictures and the resin hair are not quite my cup of tea, though I think they're a very neat concept. I do like the head-mold, and I'd love to see him with other face-ups and other looks.

    54. Very nice face sculpt! I love the eyes, smirk and everything.
The resin slicked-back hair is very action figure like, and the hair style sort of reminds me of Masaru Katou from the Gantz manga. http://comipress.com/files/images/news/2006/11/gantz2nd1.jpg
It's very unique and well done, but I prefer a normal wig.
I would love to see the head with a different faceup with more natural eyebrows and no "beard shadow". He would looks like Wu's sexy older brother. hot stuff!
I could totally see this head as Mugen from Samurai Champloo as well.
If someone gets the special set and sells the normal head, I'd love to buy it.

    55. Mir is certainly awesome...his scuplt hair is different and pretty cool...

I love the clothing and the tat...very manly and very cute as well..

What I love about elfdoll is that they look pretty realistic...ahhh Mir = <3

    56. I love Mir, except for the eyes. I don't know, but they creep me out. They keep staaaaring at me.

He would be perfect for a villain character, or perhaps something like that Korean guy from LOST, befóre he ended up on that island. I think Mir would look lovely in a suit.

    57. ....that's a totally fantastic and wonderfully hot idea. :D i may steal it and run away, after all, my Tachi's "real" head is the blank one. *_*

    58. Well I don´t like the hair it´s remid me to action man... But the face is pretty good qith his asian style...

    59. He looks like uncle^w^

    60. it reminds me of action man too.
