Elfdoll 14cm TinyDoll discussion Part 1

Apr 26, 2008

    1. wow! a narrow eyed banji...what a concept, would love to see her with other elfdoll girls too.

    2. Your Lyn looks gorgeous, Tesaya. I love her freckles - congrats :)

I see there is a Lyn on Ebay atm for $269.99. (Am I allowed to post Ebay links?). That aside, here's my Lyn in her floral hat.

    3. yay! a lyn-fest! I love her eyes octarine! She's lovely!

    4. awesome pic of your Lyn ^^. Please post more pics of her.

    5. Hehe, I'll post pictures of my Banji doll with my Elfdoll tomorrow in the sunshine. :)

    6. I thought i might sneak in this thread for a moment. I no longer have any of my elfdoll tinies...i had an adel but we never really bonded. But i did pick up a little tiny "elfdoll." It was the one thing i wanted the most from the Elfdoll meet up at Idex. Because i fell its like a one of a kind sculpture from Rainman. So much so that i wanted it to have a special "home." I know that it probably isnt allowed on the board, but wanted to show off my hard work to give my seedling its little home:

      Hope you guys enjoy!

    7. That is an awesome set up! It gives me an idea of what to do with our seedling. Do you do floral design? It looks llike you spent a lot of time setting it up. It just looks so perfect for her.

    8. your seedling terrarium is stunning. what a beautiful place for her to settle in.

    9. Yep. Here's Madeline (with Zibby).

    10. ooooooh, Wendy and Winky, do you still have them? they are so sweet.

    11. dambuster01, you are another great artisan! Love the outfits! What a lucky girl to have you to dress her!

    12. Oh, you got the sprout too??!!! I love it!! I also love Tinybear's freckles, she's a wiz at them! If I ever get her Samwise, I'm going to ask her to freckle him up, LOL :D

    13. Hi, I got an answer about Winky from Dollesque:

Apparently they did plan the exclusive release, and had these pics on her site but:

"the Winky as shown was never made due to lack of interest/orders at the time, so she was released later in limited numbers as a Holiday Special Edition in a small number (under 100 dolls)."

    14. I love the DIO ...I am thinking of adding the boy version to my hug ...or a Kiwi ..
my Banji I turned into a girl ...the face was too girlie next to Bracken
I think Dio or Kiwi would fit better

    15.
    16. Oh wow, I love Wendy...there's something about her... I hope they release her in the future.

    17. I love Amarie, stunning glass eyes.

    18. Oh, I forgot about Wendy; she's so cute! Ok, I'm adding her to the wishlist. Winky is cute too, but I can't deal with sleeping or winking eyes unless they're alternate face plates (like Little Fees). I just want them to open their eyes and look at me.

    19. I was thinking of making a glued on wig for my new lyn and, not having done it before but having the tutorial on the elfdoll site, I was wondering if anyone had done one themselves before for the elfdoll girls. Not the ones from elfdoll themselves...but ones done at home. Does anyone have any pictures? I'd love to see them.

    20. Yes, I still have them and all their sisters. The revolving door is stuck on "in" here at Troop Tiny, and the Elfdoll tinys are the continuing leaders in the numbers race ;)

Mary Lee, eBay used to be the best place to find the best scale toys!! I always thought that top picture made them look like Paris and Nicole <G>

    21. I haven't made one for the Elfdolls but did do something similar for my Orient Doll So Ji when I couldn't find a wig that I liked. I used ordinary mohair, not attached to any skin or anything. I pulled it apart so that the strands were about 5mm wide, then wound them around a long metal knitting needle....I used a medium width needle, about 6mm. Then to keep them on the needle I used some cut pieces of pipecleaner. Then once I'd wound lots around the needle I dunked the whole thing in water, squeezed the excess water out then put the needle with attached hair into a really low warm oven...or you could put it on a radiator on top of some kitchen paper. Once the mohair was totally dry, I slipped the mohair off the needles and I had perfect ringlets. I then coated my dolls head cap with white glue and snipped pieces of the ringlets and carefully applied them to the glue. It was really cute and lasted for ages. Then when I finally found a wig that I liked, I just peeled the whole lot off without any harm to the dolls resin.

Here is a photo of how it looked.....it had been on a while in these photos so looks a bit messy, but you get the idea. I wanted mine short but have done the same with dollshouse dolls using longer hair pieces and it comes out quite good.

      [IMG][IMG]

    22. cool idea with the ringlets, thanks dambuster.
Oh, and I just made an outfit for my new lyn...as I didn't have anything that really suited her...this works, until I can figure out how to make her style...maybe cute brown overalls? anyway, here's a pic:

    23. oH she is so sweet!
the only thing I would add is use a good glue
Aileens tacky glue ..or Aileens thick tacky glue

Spred it on the head and leave it for 5 mins so thicken ...then you can embed the hair in the glue ...this glue dries clear too ..so it gives a very realistic wig
I have used this method on my Pf ..Elf ..sSIN ...and my Giennie Lillica
      [IMG]
Pip still has her hair like this ..she has been like this since I had her ...

these were all wigged like it (but the Candy)

sigh ..loved these outfit ..they were vintage lace and a Victorian.. christening bonnet

...side tracked .....get the best quality glue you can ..it makes the job much easier

if your glue is too runny ...put it in the freezer for a couple of hours ..it wont freeze ..but it thickens it up

      the Ssin[IMG]

practice ..I love doing hair like this :D

    24. Oh my ...I forgot this picture ...my old Elf girls
I did them as the 4 seasons ...I sold all of these but my Bong ...then bought them all BACK LOL
(that Sylph was modded useing apoxy resin )

    25. no i dont do floral arranging...i took advantage of a sale at Micheals. i spent about 2 or so hours figuring it out and then went to town glueing! XD i actually have enough material to do another one.

      thank you!

    26. Carrie and clochette, you both have the most amazing collection of tinies. I love them all.

Hmm...can you imagine there not being enough interest in a special Winky like that? Amazing. Maybe they would be willing to do another exclusive. I did contact DDE and Wendy wasn't so encouraging about it although she said she would love to have a store exclusive as well.

I did post a question on the Elfdoll board, but I haven't received a response yet. It was really late here when I had a chance to do so, so I don't expect a reply for a bit. I suppose I need to spend my time with my own girls and making them some things to wear instead of dreaming about Winky, Wendy, and Dodo.....

    27. I can understand it...until fairly recently, tinys weren't very popular, and most people seemed to think they were way overpriced for their size. I was always the oddball in this area for preferring them. It's only been the past year or so that the interest has picked up like it has. When the Monnaemi sisters were first released, the reaction wasn't all that polite. Now they get snapped up quickly. Go figure.

    28. It is interesting Clochette... In my area, it seems larger dolls are more valued than the tiny dolls too. I still love my bunch of tinies though. :) I think it is a trend, but it makes me happy to be able to share my interest with others.

    29. Yah, the thing about Tinies, is they're just about as detailed, definately more detailed considering scale, and just as poseable and about 100 times more magical than large dolls! Though I can actually sew for the larger dolls, LOL.

I don't think people realize that when they just see a photograph, and think of the size vs. the cost. But there is so much work that goes into them! If I had the money to buy my minifee body for my DES head, and an elfdoll tiny came along at the same time, I suspect my minifee would take second seat to the tiny, LOL, and have to live without the body even longer.... Poor girl :(

    30. oh Carrie i love your victorian girls.... such beautiful costumes, and i am really liking this wig idea, think i may have to give it a try on all (when i get them ) of my girls. i kind of got stuck on my Mina and Coco for a while, until i got the Puki disease, now i have totally fallen all over again for the tiny dolls, i am so excited to add some more of the sisters, and my Secretdoll Root, my newest obsession.

    31. It true, most people feel that with tinies you could have much more doll for the
same money. As an artist,I can tell you it takes more skill and time to sculpt small. It is a true labor of love.
I have always collect tiny things, but only found bjd's
in the last few years. Having them fit dollhouse furniture and re-ment is a huge
bonus for me. Plus I love that I can pop a girl in my purse in a hard clamshell
eye glass case and she is good to go. I do wish I had found the Elfdoll girls earlier !

    32. I agree, it is the same when sewing for them. People often think that because something is tiny, it should be dirt cheap because you use so little fabric. But to be honest, there is as much, if not more, work in making something detailed for a tiny than there is for a SD size. Sewing for the tinies is a real challenge!!!

    33. Yes, that is where I found all my doll toys!!

Paris and Nicole I am not familiar with - they had a show years ago didn't they?? Never watched it.

      Mary-lee :-)

    34. Yes, they sure do!! Is the photo of your Christmas tree on this list Robin??

      THAT IS A TREE.

And your girls Carrie look fantastic in white. Very angelic.

      Mary-Lee

    35. You and me both jinjur. You and me both. That is why I wish Elfdoll would release some of the tinies from earlier. A lot of us have just recently gotten into BJDs and tinies and I do think they would sell well.

Sharon, I agree. Having sewn for tinies, it is more labour intensive because a lot has to be done by hand. I don't use glue so I have to sew everything on. I do see that most people do think that since it is small it should be cheap.

    36. [IMG]

    37. Wow, I love all of your miniatures...so cute. :)

    38. Oh Carrie, the little SSin is sooo sweet:D She has the same face as the boy doesn't she?

    39. they are identicle ...apart from the boy haveing ...a boy body :D

    40. Absolutely adorable!!

      Mary-Lee

    41. o.k. guys, *sheepishly bows head* i....uh..... bought WINKY!

    42. Well I saw she was sold......and I wondered......Congratulations! she is fab Miss Ally!

    43. thanks! i just could not pass on that face, and the fact that she is somewhat rare, made me want her all the more, she really is a pretty little thing, albeit a bit of a scamp.

    44. Congrats Miss Ally! Can't wait to see pictures.

    45. thanks "Cat", she should be her soon!

    46. I think Winky is a very underappreciated sculpt....when I got my Christmas pair, my first plan was to have her winking eye opened because I didn't think I'd like it. Once she got here, it became very clear that wasn't going to happen. She's just too darn cute!

    47. Congratulations Miss Ally, she is a cutie!
And just think, you'll save a fortune on eyes!!!!;)
      Hugs
      Sharonxx

    48. hah, hah, hah never "looked"at it that way, thanks!

    49. OMG yay! I'm so glad somone here baught her! I was so afraid she would be unapreciated. congrats Ms. Ally! Now you have Min and Winky! scores! And stop feeling sheepish for getting awesome dolls! ^_~

    51. yay! do post a box opening and stuff when your dolls arrive!

    52. heh heh, i can have Dasiy (Min) open her box.

    53. Oh yes! How cute that would be!

    54. How wonderful! Congratulations.

      Mary-Lee
