Is this the only reliable way to get elf ears? It seems a bit strange that ears arent swappable, whereas eyes are.
Ear shape doesn't matter to me as much as the overall sculpt appearance does--- however I'm not a big fan of ears that stick out a lot. But if I liked everything else about the sculpt, I wouldn't let that stop me from purchasing it when I'm able to. I don't think I'd be able to handle a doll with long elf ears without getting nervous about accidentally breaking off an ear;;; As far as I'm aware, yes. I don't find it strange, ears are the choice of the sculptor and their vision. I'm pretty sure there are a few companies that have dolls where you can swap out the ear parts somewhere... Unfortunately I can't think of any off the top of my head. Unoas have optional elf ear parts, but I'm not entirely sure how they attach But if you are worried about modding your doll, you could always commission someone to make ears? Or you could make a pair that will slip over your dolls current ears so you could swap between elf and human ears? The endless possibilities make this hobby fun~
My personal preference in general, is larger ears. Hence why I love elf ears but I don't like if it just has length and no width. Even for human ears I prefer them to be noticeable, I think it looks so endearing to see the tip of the ears or something poking out from under the hair However ears is also one of those things that isn't always a seller for me, if I happen to prefer a face that is dressed with human ears I'd still buy it over a doll I desire less, with elf ears.
Elf ears, most of my OCs are elves~~ Not to sat I dont have human OCs! But when it comes to shelling them, elves out number humans.... Currently I have 7 elf dolls and 3 humans ^^''
I prefer dolls with realistic human ears. I have no dolls with crazy fan-shaped elf ears, so modding a slight pointed ear with epoxy clay (Milliput) is easier than removing them (not all companies add the upper ear grove to their elf ears, so removing the point doesn't totally fix the problem).
Love elf ears! I'm a sucker for all things fantasy so elfy ears were what originally drew me to these dolls. I don't mind shorter ears, but I find I really like the longer ears because they can be seen through wigs more easily.
I love elf ears, but I've noticed that usually I don't like the face sculpts that have them. My first doll has yet to come in, but I'm already researching how I can mod it to make my own elf ears for her, so I can be free to buy whatever sculpt I like!
The face is most important. One of the dolls I have has magnetic ears so you can switch between regular or elf ears. Makes dealing with wigs and hair accessories a bit difficult but nice for a change up.
I'll admit, I love elf ears. Most of my OCs are elves or have elf ears, and I do want to shell them at one point. I think they're super cute, but as others have said I do worry about them breaking off or chipping (for some conventions and Meetups in other hobbies, I actually own a pair of large elf ears that I wear. Elf ears are so cool, in my mind.)
I'm a huge fan of elf ears!! Most of bjds on my wishlist and my current ones have elf ears. You could say that the longer/weirder their ears are the more love I will have for that bjd XD
Its hard to say because I feel I like both equally, its more of the face that's the big decider. I don't feel I could choose or not get the doll only because of how the ears are, if it has elf ears or not. However, I love me some elf ears. Realized my first doll, a Resinsoul Mei, as well as ones I want to get next, a Resinsoul Yi and maybe Long, all have elf ears xD I guess I'm just gonna have an elven forest one day! xD I think that's one of the things I thought after thinking of getting Yi. I loved his face and tallness, but seen the ears and thought "oh he has elf ears! Even more reason to get him, what an added plus! "
I like human ears especially if they are more cartoony and stick out. I’m not a big fan of small ears. I know when I first found out about BJDs I’d always look at sculpts with elf ears.
Ears aren't the most important thing to me when buying the doll unless it fits with the character I'm planning! I will admit though, I tend to lean more towards elf ears! For Noya they were a must for his character!
It depends on the character I am shelling, normally I would go to human ears but elf ears are a huge aesthetic of mine.
My dolls all play a storyline in an elf world. But i don't mind if they have elf ears or not. I look for the dolls which are affordable and come the closest to the character i am looking for. The rest i mod myself, elf ears included. Actually, only 2 of my dolls, Ciske and Tesla are natural born elves.
I care more about face or design, but I love elf ears so I wouldn't care if the doll had them as long as I liked it in general.
I love the look of elf ears, but as I’m a newbie, I wonder if they make wigs difficult to stay on well? I saw some minifee with elf ears, and the wigs seemed almost falling off. If this a common problem?
Hmm, I don't pay too much attention to the shape of the ears but unless I'm designing a fantasy doll that is an Elf, I would not go for pointed ears. I'd stick to something more realistic. I focus more on the face and if the face looks nice and the ears seem to match, I'm fine with it.
Ears are like the last thing I notice or care about when it comes to a face 90% of the time, lol I tend to pick sculpts that appeal to me in the facial proportions and expression and whether it has elf or human ears is of absolutely no consequence to me. Having said that, I've ended up with a lot of fantasy-eared dolls? I don't know if it's a complete coincidence or just the cool face sculpts are more likely to have fantasy ears...
I absolutely love elf ears. When I first started the hobby I didn't think I would. But then I received my first elf eared boy, and now I want all of my dolls to have them XD
I like all ears. Human/elf are 50/50 in my collection. The weirder shape, the better. (What bugs me though are antromorphic characters with two human and two animal ears. D
I'm a sucker for elf ears in general (but also I'm specifically shelling an elf character at the moment).
I love elf ears so much, and elf ears are more easily modded into human ears I think! It really depends on the character I guess but I do love elf ears
If choose between long or kotorkimi pointed ears, I would choose nice little ears, long ones too are not bad, but I tend to shorten. But whether human or not - it already depends on the image of the doll.
I LOVE ELF EARS!!! If the doll company have both human and elf ears doll, I always choose elf ears first Lol
If their faces are pretty and the type I like, then ears are not important to me, and I like both elvish and human ears.
I am a big fan of elf ears, they are just super cute in my opinion. But for certain characters it just doesn't work.
I am in love with elf ears, to me they just make any doll 10 times cuter haha. If I only had elves in my doll crew I wouldn't mind! The only annoying thing is that I have to remove the head most of the time to put on clothes because I'm so scared of damnaging the ears ><
To be completely honest, I'm not too worried about the ears! As someone has already said, they're mostly covered by wigs anyway. Although in saying that, if given the choice I would pick human ears every time (since my crew is not fantasy based).
love elf ears on dolls i think my fav must be the ones on the sugerble genie but none of my future crew will have elf ears they are all human
I guess it depends how strongly you feel of what type of doll you want them to be living in. Would it be a realistic doll living in our real world or a fantasy doll living in a fantasy-like setting. This also goes with costume and lighting and storytelling of the doll would be involved in, but personally elf ears are adorable in any setting. ^_^
I honestly love elf ears so much, like i want everything and everyone to have elf ears. but usually the sculpts that have elf ears dont fit my tastes face wise. im planning on just modding elf ears on the next doll i get so i can be completely happy with her face as well.
I prefer elf ears on smaller sculpts and human ears on larger ones, just because I feel like those pointy ears are way cute and they suit the smaller sculpts very well, but it could look a little out of place for larger sculpts.
I like the way elf ears look when they poke out from beneath the wig! However, presence or lack of elf ears isn't normally a deal breaker for me, though in cases like Soom dolls, if I like the elf ears I will get the fantasy head when given a choice. But I don't look at them and go oh I love those ears I must buy this, I look at the face and go I like this face, oh hey it comes with elf ears... I want this.
I really like elf ears! I’d love to get a doll with some in the future. I think the shorter kind are very cute but like a lot of people said tthey probably wouldn’t show up under the wig. Any fantasy ears are really cute to me! Most human shaped ears don’t really register to me so realistic or cartoony both are acceptable.
Elf ears are cool, but I usually prefer more human-like dolls. And, as many have stated here, the wigs usually cover them, so I would only get one of these if my wig had a haircut/hairstyle that would somehow let the ears be more well exposed.
I used to prefer human ears but I think I’m deep into some kind of elf phase right now because the majority of my recently purchased dolls do indeed have elf ears. And I prefer the ears to be long enough that they can be seen when the doll is wearing a wig.
I actually like both. It really depends on the character/concept for a doll. Though if I had to choose I think i would go for elf ears. (Which I had some in real life,too... so bored of my human ears)
Elf ears are nice, but I am a bit particular about the shape. I usually prefer realistic human ears, but I do plan on having a male doll with slight elf ears for his character. My female doll also has interchangeable elf and human ears so I rotate between the two just for some variety.
Elf ears are super cute. Especially droopy ones like Soom Amber. To be fair, though, the worst fear I had was when the Soom Amber head I bought was shipped - I was so paranoid it was going to break! Thankfully it didn't - the seller had one of the best packaged shipping containers I have ever seen in my life. The second Soom Amber head I purchased was within a day's drive so that's what we did, mother and daughter day trip! I have some elf-themed characters, most notably from the Dragon Age series I wish to shell, so it seems modding will be in my future to add those ears. Granted, I am one person who bought one doll simply to add elf ears since the facial sculpt and body type was so perfect to what I had in mind. Although making sure her ears will poke out of her wig a little bit once everything is said and done is another story...
THEELFLING♂️ASYLUM ✩ on Instagram: “I finally sculpted some big elf ears (they’re not finished at all) so I can attach them to all my dolls or maybe just Comet XD also if…” i am really into these elf-ears at the moment. i kinda love that they dare to look ugly and not like the typical doll/anime idea of an elf-ear.
Almost all my dolls have elf ears in some form or another. I really love the long kind, but my big issue with them is that I always have to remove the doll's head to change their shirt. My Dika Doll Rena's ears are wider than her shoulders are broad, so changing her is always a hassle.
It really depends on the character for me, or the aesthetic I'm going for with the doll. I do like elf ears though! They can be very pretty with the right sculpt.
the eyes are what sell me on it the most. they draw my attention first, followed with the mouth and overall shape of the face. the ears are usually a detail i more often overlook...
