I tried do this... But then I realised I didn't have any gromets or anything like that, so it's not finished. But I don't have my doll yet, paid for him today. So it doesn't really matter. But this is how it looks for the moment.
Hi, I'm back! I've finaly been able to get my dress on my girl! I posted the dress on the last page a few months ago, but have only just been able of unwrap my girl yesterday after I got back from holidays, and it fits beautifully! I will probably try making a simular one that will have a more feminine bust shape, because it is very revealing, but I still love her in it all the same! I'm thinking about making some matching arm warmers or something else, to balance the paleness of her arms. I appoligize about the quality of the photo, but the batteries were dying from holiday use and it was very a quickly put together pose. (I don't like what the flash did to her face much either.) I will post a better picture up when I get new batteries and a light source! And yes, I haven't worked out her name... ****** Okay, a newer Photo, mostly just to show that Madeline(she is now named) looks better in this dress with her correct hair and eyes, rather than the random stuff that I bought with her that didn't suit her at all. ******
I decided to try this for my Coco. I think the next time I make it I'll slope the side panels to fit under her arms better and make the back piece wider. Right now her arms and the ribbon are the only thing holding it up. I'll also machine sew it as I really shouldn't hand sew...
A kick in the arse for this awesome thread! HUZZAH. Made a mandress for Risu. The picture is SUCH AND AWESO- oh hell who am I trying to trick.. You can hardly see it.. The hem looks like a flower, sort of petaly form in it. I also made a skirt under the dress, where I put some... stuff. I can't recall the word just now, but it lifts the dress up really nicely >_< But I'm still bowing and sacrificing little animals to Easy Dress Tutorial... After half a year of using it in various forms... hu hu hu...
Insanely fabulous tutorial, and such an adorable dress. I wonder if it would work for my tiny girl... *tries to draft* Has anyone tried it with straps? Gah, prettyful dress Elzariel. I love the fabric.
A dozen times nicer picture of the dress! The black skirt under it with the frillies is also made by the easydress pattern, just that it's only a lower part from it. 83
not too much, i made two strips and calculated the measurements for the top part aobut the same as the measurements for the reg pattern, but i only used 2 "bust" lengths and added a bit extra(to make up for the sides) its sorta guesswork. n.n;; the skirt part is just pleated at the waist, but i was going to cut a bunch of little pieces and make it the same way as the reg pattern. making it into one strip and folding little parts over to make pleats was just easier on my machine. @.@
That sounds doable, even with my dubious skills. Thanks for helping me out. c: The skirt is fabulous, and the folded pleats are too adorable. It seems like cutting all those pieces would be much harder than using one strip when working with a model that tiny. And the end result looks great, which is ultimately what counts. ^w^
Am I the only one who doesn't think this looks easy? Lol!! Anyway, my doll doesn't have the measurements for "bust to waist"... I tried using a tape measurer but I don't know what I'm doing! D: Halp?
for bust to waist, you measure from the center of her/his chest ((pecs or bosom XD)) down to the waistline. if you need any other help, just let me know. once i get back to school on mon, i can make another step by step tutorial for you if you are still having trouble, just PM me! ^^
Okay thank you I'll try that! ^^ Will I have to do anything different for this dress in the back since I don't have those fasteners?
Devyn- you mean eyelets? umm in that case yes, though i have seen people use lace with large holes for the same purpose for this dress. i have also used velcro and snaps or buttons. if you don't have the right sort of lace, you might want to try snaps, as you can hand sew those on.
I don't have any of that, I think I just have some velcro. I'll try that and see how it comes out. ^_^ Thanks!
Thank you sooo much for this tutorial Here is what I made for my girl~ and different back (I use 2 snaps)
I made one, too!! I still need to find the metal things for the holes in the back, but I love it already thanks for this incredible tutorial, is great!!
Wow, that patterns great, but still confuses me... How would I go about making it bigger for an Iple SD? Or even if someone has the pattern in Iple measurements..? Thanks
hi callum91! it is quite easy, really! don't fear that you need a calculator, you can draw the pattern yourself quite easily. you just need paper, pencil, your doll and a measuring tape. if you measure your Iple doll's bust, waist and her chest, you will see you can draw the pattern can you maybe tell us on which point are you having the biggest problem? I'm sure we can help you ^^
siruveru-Well the thing is, my dolls aren't here yet, so I can't get the measurements, but they are up at Iple... [[Body size] * Tall: 59cm * Circumference of head : 8.4 inch * Circumference of neck : 8.7cm * Circumference of chest : 24.2cm * Width of shoulders : 11cm * Length "from shoulder to wrist: 18cm * Circumference of wrist : 5.5cm * Length of back: 10cm * Circumference of waist : 17cm * Circumference of hips : 25cm * Length "from hips to ankle: 31cm * From waist to tiptoe : 37cm * Foot size:6.8cm ]] Where I'm stuck? It's at the pattern making bit.. DO I get the measure ments and divide them by 4, for each piece of pattern...? Thanks for helping !
oh I see well, let's see what we can make with that... this is the picture of the pattern you need to make the upper line is 1/4 bust measurement I believe that is the measurement of the chest with boobies, so then your upper line in that pattern should measure 1/4 of that. my calculator says that's 6,05cm now where it's written 1/4 waist measurement, it means the horizontal line there then your line there should be of 4,25 now the distance between those two horizontal lines is tricky. it should be the lenght from the boobies to the waist, but in that description we only get so no boobies there... however, I guess it should also be around 10cm, or a bit more, considering the differences... if you can ask somebody with your doll in the forum to measure that for you, it would be better lastly, the horizontal line in the bottom is the full waist measure, which in your doll is 17 cm so, more or less, it should be something like:
Be careful with the "bust to waist" measurement! I made a pattern for an DZ msd female and her back length was 10.5cm, but her actual measurement from the bust to the waist was only 5cm! The back length is usually measured from the back of the shoulders to the lower hip or bottom, so be wary with such measurements. I don't know the measurement for your Iple, but if you want to be sure before you start sewing, make a post and ask for someone to measure their's and post the "bust to waist" length. I did that for my pattern because DZ didn't have the bust to waist measurement that I needed.
I hope so. It's really annoying when you put so much work into something and then you find out that something might have been off and have to do it all over again. I had drawn up my pattern for this and forgot to draw my seam allowances on the top and bottom of it and didn't catch it until I was trying to cut out my second piece of material. I was so glad I caught it soon enough.
and you know, you can apply this pattern in many other ways... take for example... this dress You can see the hourglass shape in the bodice or even this jacket You cant see it in my pictures but underneath the cape, there is the 4 hourglass shapes sewn together and one is split to make the front opening. then I simply sewed on some sleeves and the tail. You'd be surprised what an hourglass can help you make. ^.^
Finally finished the dress! Though it'll be a while before any doll will be modeling it...I made it for a DZ female body, because I'm currently saving up for their tintan sculpt and I think she needs some clothes before she arrives. This is actually the first time I've ever used my Mother's sewing machine. I have sewn by hand before (which is how I got the small lace on the top of the dress on there), but I had no experience with the machine before this. I think it turned out rather well for my first try and I hope it looks fine once its actually on a doll, but for now you'll have to settle for pics of it lying upon the table. (I plan to make a second dress later, I have most of the things I need for it.) Many thanks for the tutorial! It has enabled a certified idiot such as myself to actually make something!
This is so wonderful! That's quite possibly the easiest pattern I've ever seen, and it's perfect for folks like myself, who use a peculiar mix of directions and intuition when they sew. I've already made two dresses with it, and I'm planning on plenty more! My DZ Yi, modeling the blue dress which will go to my friend's Mo. And detail on the completed bodice in the front.
This small model of dress is simple but very attractive, we can accommodate it easily to all the styles. tanks Ah! You have fairy's fingers
This looks pretty easy! I think it would be a good place for someone like me (who has never sewn a stitch in her life) to start! So I'm mainly just posting here so I can come back to it when my chances of actually get a doll are more realistic...I can occupy myself with making the dress while the doll ships! XD
This pattern is great! And I'm pretty sure Dollheart uses something similar in their Fers, I was wondering how they achieved that shape! I'm going to make one for my Glorydoll Lucy, I'll probably need to put darts in the bust and make the 'bust piece' bigger over all, but this is a really easy to modify basic pattern. Thanks again!
I want to make this dress, but I haven't been able to find bust to waist measurements for the angel region little fair girls.....since I don't have my Dana yet, could someone tell me these measurements (preferably in centimeters)?
Hi again! I've already made one dress using this pattern, but I love the pattern so much that I've used the same idea to make a halter neck top. Um, I've used eight segments instead of four to give more of an hour glass shape, used darts at the bust, a false laced up panel on the back that actually snaps closed and I've some how made a collar that looks like a collar! So thank you again Blue Eternity! Auska
I made two dresses one for my girl and one that my girl is modeling for a friend of mine. My girl has a mature bust so I had to modify the pattern a bit. Also I don't have a sewing machine so I had sewed it but I really like the way the seams look when they're pulled tight against her body. I also tried to make it very form fitting because I love the shape of the Bobobie bodies. Anyway here you go. Oh and in case you're curious, the lolita-ish one is for my friend where the more casual one is mine. Sorry the pictures are resized kinda funny I was in a rush.
Here we are!! I even took photos of my own step by step. This is Anastacia. Anastacia and Rasputina in matching dresses.
Love this tutorial. I made a long ball gown type dress for my Nezumi with this pattern. I used an old drape that I found in my fabrics box. I have a red silk and black lace short gown in progress right now. ^^ Ball gown Detail Photobucket wouldn't resize my pictures! I'm sorry! 9_9
I don't have a doll yet, but I just had to try and make this dress! I think the waist might be a little too big though, and I made it entirely by hand, so you can see the stitches in some places... Anyway, I didn't have any eyelets that were small enough, so I just made little loops out of rippon instead. I made a little headdress too, just for good measure. I can't wait to get my doll and start sewing clothes for her for real! And thank you so much for this tutorial, it was great and easy, and the results look adorable!
Nevermind! Small bust MNF measurements courtesy of Korrin: bust - 15.5 cm waist - 12.5 cm bust to waist - 5 cm (edit v2) Umm turns out this thats from under the bust to the waist so can I still please have the bust to waist measurement?
I need to add something, not idea of what yet! But here is my rendition of your pattern! THANK YOU for sharing it!! Hope you like it!!
Thank you for this tutorial!! Especially on the tips on no-fray-zig-zag stitch One thing I should've taken note on making the opening at the back of the dress - is to note the width of the hips of my girl. She had a thin waist, but a huge butt...and my opening wasn't wide enough to get the dress through it. ^^
I admit, I looked at this thread a while ago, but only just used it. I've been working on them all week. so far I have two dresses, one for a kid delf cherry, and one for my little alley unicorn. I'll post pics as soon as the good camera gets back from nc.
Anayokari That is sooo cute!! DebM Ooh! Love the colors on the fabric. It's so chic Here are pics of Yasmir in her dress. It's zip up, because I couldn't find velcro or grommets I seriously screwed the back part and the ribbon lining... I'm still getting used to the new sewing machine and I still tend to jump when I lose control of the foot pedal XD And, yeah, I'm addicted to the zig-zag stitch~~
(is double posting alloud XD) Oh! I tried it!!!! and this was my very first attempt EVER to sew! so... it is crappy lol I still need to add lace and stuff at the bottom and top. I can't fined the one I bought! (I made this this morning with a old pillow case lol!) the back does have gromets. I can add a picture?
If you dislike gromets or lacing in general, you can always put a flap of material on and make it a velcro! I need to fray-check the top and bottom of my dress, but otherwise, this pattern totally OWNS and my dress is adorable!
I wanted to show what I did with a little modification of this pattern. Malachai has a glamour dress now! I love the things you can do with this pattern!

wow!!! i love you people who make simple tutorials that turn out really lovely!! i adore the the dress boots and stockings on your doll!!! im deffinetly going to be using this when i get my doll (if ever lol) if you do decide to clean out your photobucket you should place all these in a folder and post it again cuz i saved all the pictures but ill probably need the words and everything with it, and i would print it but my step dad seems to think if we get a printer ill go printer happy lol aaand he is right... but yeah the dress you made is sooo cute!
I am still saving up for my first doll, so don't have any pictures of the dress on (not even sure if it fits ) Made little.. uhm.. glove-thingies (can't remember the name) that matches And the back :
Hmmm.... I haven't gone through all of the replies, but if you don't have a doll yet, would it be possible to make the bodice high (like back measurement or so) and just fold it under and stitch it once you get your doll? The top hem is one of the last steps. I think I'll have to try. and if all else fails, I might have something around here that could wear it.
LOL Well, it's a very nice fabric Do you have a picture of your doll wearing the dress? I am still waiting (rather unpatiently) on my doll, so it would be nice to see it on
Oh I most certainly do, it's one of my favourite dresses for her to wear. I made mine before Kiyoko got here too, and the lace up back did wonders as far as making sure it fit went. She used to have faux pearl straps on both sides . . but I forgot they were over her arms and snapped one . . Alas I don't have a back photo, I lace her up with a similar patterned ribbon and added a little fabric flower at the base- mainly to hide the hand stitching at the base You must show me your doll in her dress when she arrives~
finally worked out how to post a picture Here's a few pictures of my Oceanna showing off her new dress by boogieing on down to her favourite tunes on Rock Radio Not the best pics as I took them with my phone, but the dress was my first attempt at hand sewing clothes for my girl, and i'm quite happy with it, even if I did make it with the material print upside down
Thank you SOOOOOOOOOO much for making this tutorial!!! You do not know how much this has helped me... My tiny's been stuck in the same Barbie shirt (it's a dress on the tiny) forEVER! I've started making the pattern out of graph paper, and I should have it finished before the weekend is over... I've altered it a little bit and made the front piece like a v-neck sundress, and I plan to make it white and the rest of the dress black... The front should look something like an apron... I plan to add lace and such. I'm thinking along the lines of loli-maid?... Anyways, I hope it turns out nice... It'd be the second thing I've ever made for a doll! ^_^
Thank you SO MUCH. Most of my sewing projects end up forgotten failures, but this pattern really worked for me! Take a look: Thank you for returning a speck of my confidence! I finally made something that fits my Sanyu!
I've used this pattern a ton of times but i have to say that I made a dress recently I absolutely adore. 33 I know the pattern says that it should be sown on a machine but I sew mine by hand and I think it looks great and it actually doesn't even take me that long. I also don't use grommets on the back I just cut holes and then use fray stop to keep them from coming apart. I realized just now that I didn't take any of the back >< I'll try to get some of those soon.
X3 i just had to try this out! and this is my result...it's not totally finished yet though. still need to add lace and ribbon. and alter the back a bit, cause it's totally bunched up cause too big.>_< i think i measured wrong....and it's still too square...the blue thing underneath is a peticoat i tried to make. despite the issues, he's very pleased with the dress.^_^
First time sewing, I spent the weekend on this pattern. Very easy to follow. I made two dresses... one with a slight variation, and one that was a little bigger 1/2 inch leeway instead of 1/4 for my DZ Shoyo. I will go ahead and post these tomorrow after my finals. >< Not sure atm where my camera is.
Possibly a stupid question, but I'm very new to this, and the first time I made this dress was for Choseol, who doesn't really have a waist or bust as such, and now I want to make this dress as an underpinning for a very busty girl... Where do you take bust-to-waist from? Her nipples, or where you want the top of the dress to be? And do you measure over the curve of her breast, or down the middle through her cleavage? Any help greatly appreciated - I have the perfect fabric, and I'm itching to go!
My girl is also very busty, makes it difficult to fit things right xD; Anyway, take the bust to waist from the nipple (the biggest measurement around) to the belly button line. I usually measure from the nipple straight down, not necessarily following the curve. Does that all make sense? edit: Though I think for this pattern you take the measurement from where you want the top of the dress to be O.o; I'm not honestly sure... But judging from the date on your post, you've probably already figured something out lol
