Dyeing Dyeing Re-Glued Pieces

May 29, 2024

    1. Hello hello!

      Reaching out to you lovely lot to see if anyone has any tips for the following;
      I want to dye some resin doll wings, however they have a feather snapped off. Should I glue them together first, and then dye, or attempt to dye them before glueing?
      I'm inclined towards the former as the bit that snapped off is a bit finicky and I don't know how well I'd manage to dye it at the same time as the solid parts, but I don't know if the superglue will cause the dye to be uneven etc...
      SO was wondering if anyone has done anything similar (i.e. a doll with a finger glued back on XD), or which way round would be better?

      Thanks in advance!

    2. My experience has been that boiling can soften super glue, magnets always come unglued when I dye dolls so I would be concerned that the parts will not stay glued on.

      I would suggest dyeing everything first. Small pieces like the broken parts can be dyed in a little handheld sieve. If you keep them swishing/swirling in the dye, the dye will not be inhibited by the parts laying on the sieve wires.

    3. I second what Myuuchan said, glue often comes undone during the dye process.
      I'd probably go with dye first, glue later as well :lol:
