Dust of Dolls - Doom

Mar 17, 2016

    1. I hotglued her hip-spheres, but she is still very kicky, and her legs swivel, too. I might suede her, but I've never done it, Anne Pecaro on Youtube did it and it worked.

    2. Very nice face up! Much better then previous face up. So delicate girl!))

    3. Awww, thank you very much! ^_^

    4. I thought hotglueing and sueding were the same thing? I did hot glue her which helped, but I think if I pad the hip joints inside with a sturdy foam it could help with the swiveling

    5. Hotglueing often has the same effect than sueding, but sueding works a little better, I've just realised!
I've done it on Bomi (on the hip joints), and hotglued her knees, and she can stand (with some playing around from the human). My sueding is not perfect, I didn't unstring her and it is not very beautiful, but I wanted effectiveness! She can stand, and here is the proof (she is near the wall, but standing freely, even if it does not look so...):

    6. That's awesome! How did you suede her?

    7. I used a cloth/suede I bought that is actually for cleaning the inside of the car (it's called "peau de chamois" in French), and I used the peeled off hotglue (as I had hotglued her at first) as a template. It's really very amateur-ish how I did it. I'm sure there are tutorials on the web for better ways to do it. ;-)

      Thanks @Blablette ! I just keep doing hot glue:lol:

So while I was trying to get her to stand, I noticed the big reason for the flopping was a lack of support in the thighs and hips, which is caused by very large open cavities in the thighs and hip joints that force the stringing to press on the back “walls” of these cavities.

So after a full hot glue suede on the lower half of her, I cut out some thick packing foam pieces and wrapped them inside to make the cavities much smaller, forcing the stringing to stay mostly in the middle.

I did this in the hip joints and the thighs, and it certainly seems to be working! Maybe this could help out too?

    9. Wow, this is a neat idea!!!! ^_^

    10. So my weakness when sewing is pants, and I was just wondering if anyone here has found any pants for purchase that fit her by chance?

    11. Can't help you for pants :/

      My lovely Bomi !

      • x 6
    12. Well, idk if this counts? But SD sized stretchy tights fits...?

    13. I can't help with pants either, I'd try sewing them myself, if you can @PuddingMolester , or trying stretchy tights, as @Shailara suggests.
I've sewn my Bomi some bloomer shorts go go under her dress, sewing pants is not what I prefer sewing anyway, and it's not my Bomi's style, how conveeeenient! ;-) ;-) ;-)

change of subject: for standing problems, mine is on a saddle doll stand, now, her sueding is not perfect (I admit) and her legs still swivel quite a bit depite the suede, she is still trouble to make stand. But her prettiness makes up for all that. <3

    14. Hi! Everyone's Bomi is so beautiful! I love her sculpt. I was wondering if anyone had any Lill pics to share?

    15. I don't know who here follows Dust of Doll's on Instagram, but ever since they posted Wawa I dreamed of her more than Bomi. Just today at PNW I couldn't say no after hearing even with taking the doll home today, they'd let me layaway. The artists were so sweet and I love Wawa so much!
Apologies, couldn't figure out the BB code from mobile Flickr, so here is a link to the beige beauty!

    16. Wow! I'm surprised they let you layaway and take the doll home :V That really is super sweet! I saw your beauty on instagram :D She's a cutie patootie!

    17. Oh wow, that was super awesome of them! She's very beautiful.

    18. Just bought the first WaWa on the market place! Will be posting pictures when she arrives <3

    19. Awwww, Wawas to come <3 congrats to the new owners!!!

    20. Wawa is super beautiful- congrats to those of you who had the opportunity to welcome her. I was curious if I could bump this thread with more pictures. If I am lucky enough to welcome a Doom Bomi, I would love to see more pics and what to expect. I think I have to read a lot about sueding and hot gluing! Thank you to everyone who has provided clothing and wig information.:aheartbea

She would be my first resin doll outside of Volks brand and I will be very excited to see what she is like in comparison.:)

    21. Congratulations on finding a Bomi! There are simply too few around :) As for in comparison with Volks, I find Bomi's skin is creamier, peachier in colour and slightly more translucent. She isn't actually a translucent resin, but she lets a little bit more light through than the solid skin of Volks. Her body needs some work to get it to behave, but boy is it stunning! Mine has actually not had any work done, she has a fancy chair to sit and and that's good enough for me :)

Here's a link to my girl's album to provide the requested pic spam: Winter

    22. @Wennie Oh thank you so much for the wonderful reply! I haven't officially found one yet but I am hoping to finalize the search soon. She's just a magical doll and calls to me so very much- she always has.
It was wonderful to hear the resin comparison and let me know a bit more what to expect moving forward.:thumbup She feels so ethereal! I actually plan to use her with a stand or have her sit so I am not sure if I will undertake sueding her or not? Sueding can make all the difference in my Volks dolls though so I do appreciate the results!

I think Winter is spectacular and I adore the blue wig. She's so sweet.:love (Is that a blue Ikea throw she's on in the background?! I own that too and have used it for a backdrop as well!) I adored bother face-up options and the wigs- just lovely Dust of Dolls really has a magnificent presentation for their dolls and makes such stunning girls. I wish Wawa would be made on a preorder as well because she is so very beautiful. I cannot wait to see people welcome their girls home!

Thank you everyone for contributing to this thread, it's been exceptionally helpful!:aheartbea

    23. With a stand or sitting down, I think you will be fine. The only thing she won't do for me is stand on her own and her arms might do more versatile poses with some work, but I already find them extremely expressive as they are. And yes, that's an Ikea throw, I have them in a range of colours to use as backdrops :D Wawa is such a cutie too, I hope she'll be more readily available at some point as well!

    24. I got my first Dust of Dolls doll over the weekend and she is my first SD doll! All of my other dolls are tiny sized so she definitely shocked me with her size, weight, and beauty! Now I want more of DoD's dolls :love

      Here are photos of her~!

    25. @JellysFancy - Oh wow, she's an absolute beauty! I love her face-up, who is it by? Also, so brave to pick her for your first SD :aeyepop:

    26. I got Bomi through a trade thus she came as shown in the photos so I'm not sure who did the faceup ^^;

    27. @JellysFancy Gosh, she's absolutely gorgeous! I could be wrong but that looks like it might be the 'Viridian House Version' with some minor alterations? Really, congrats on getting such a beautiful girl. I would love to see more pictures of her in the future!

If Dust of Dolls does a preorder for Wawa in the future, I think I am doomed. (no pun intended:sweat)

Here is a picture of the girl I will be welcoming in the next few weeks -Picture reposted with permission from the very kind artist:aheartbea- :

She is very different from the dolls I normally collect but I found myself totally mesmerized by her look. I am very excited to meet her!

    30. @Wennie Winter is always very, very beautiful!;)

@Youpla I've loved seeing your gorgeous girl throughout the thread here and on Flickr too. She's completely stunning and the best part -at least to me- is your exquisite face-up work. I'm a big fan.:D+:dance

    31. Yay! Glad to see everyone else's Bomi! They're all so pretty and cute!

    32. Guys!!! I'm getting a Bomi!!! I'm so excited.:dance:dance:celebrate
I have her on layaway so I won't actually be seeing her until February (6-months layaway :...() but she's all mine!!! If things turn out for the best, I may finish my layaway early. Anyway, I just want to drop-by and share the news.

*Sorry for the exclamation marks. :kitty1

    33. All of these stunning Bomis makes me feel like hitting my head to the wall because I didn't order her right away:lol: I missed one of the most beautiful dolls ever.

I messaged to them few weeks back asking if they have planned on re-releasing her on different color. I would love to have tan Bomi! They weren't sure. They said that is there's enough interest, then they might do limited sale for her but it's not going to happen anytime soon or at anytime. So the chances for that to happens are fairly tiny.

@Youpla your Bomi is so expressive! I love her faceup you did to her.

@Wennie Winter looks so delicate and fragile >w<

      @nakitaninja She's absolutely stunning! :aeyepop:

@angelie23 Ooh, congratulations! I hope that you are able to finish the lay way sooner, so you can get your precious beauty home soon:D

    34. I wish I had gotten one too <3

    35. @nakitaninja thank you so much <3 I really like Esthy face-up but I like to have a unique doll x) I'm happy that you like my work on her ^-^
      @angelie23 congrats !! :)
      @Tuulen thank you ^-^

    36. Ahhh i actually just bought @JellysFancy 's Bomi, she's my grail doll. ;w; after i got my appi mëel i knew i had to have more DoD dolls. So beautiful!

      • x 2
    37. I can't wait for you to get her! She's absolutely gorgeous! I'm just more into smaller dolls so the funds went into the current DoD pre-order but my loss is your gain <3

    38. I can't blame you! I feel like the Appi size is such a perfect size. I didn't discover bomi until after the pre-order had ended and i was so sad! She's going to be my first SD too.

Tracking says she's out for delivery RIGHT NOW!!

    39. Ooh, how exciting :dance
Will you post box opening pics here? ^A^

    40. Things have been quiet around here. Anyone have their beauties to show? My Winter got a small make-over and I renamed her Autumn. I changed her entire story and made her a new dress in a different style. I’ll have to find her some new eyes at some point, but I have yet to decide on the colour (I tend to be drawn to teal and purple, but half my dolls already have that, so I probably should try something else)

      Here she is:

    41. You have a very nice girl. I also have Bomi, but I did not want to wear it .. And now I look at your beauty, and I think that I will also sew an outfit on it.

Makeup at my Bomi from Verdian House. I look at the makeup of this author from other doll owners, and they are so cute! But my Bomi seems to have thicker brows than other dolls. So I did not order a make-up for this preorder. I'll do it myself.

    42. Awww, the fabric for the dress is perfect! Your autumn is wonderful, @Wennie !

    43. Thanks so much!

Thanks! You should, it’s really gratifying to see them in something made for them. It’s a shame yours has thicker eyebrows. Mine is just perfect, one of three VH face-ups that I have here. She was my grail face-up artist for ages, so I couldn’t resist getting my Bomi painted by her. But the face-up can really make a huge difference and if it doesn’t work, it doesn’t work :)

    44. My poor girl has been waiting patiently for me to finish her face up which now with fall underway in my area I need to step it up before it gets to cold to seal her without issues. I also need to finish her wig which I started before I started on her faceup and now I have to wait until I'm done with her faceup lol

    45. I have such problems. I never finish it, and start a new one. And then I have to go back and finish the unfinished. I hope you will succeed. And you show the photo of your doll here.

    46. Good luck!
I realised that 12mm Mako eyes fit Bomi, which is perfect because they are my preferred eyes. She's borrowing a pair of grey ones until I can get some funds together and figure out what colour to get her. Can I request Bomi spam, preferably with different eye colours?

    47. Autumn is here and my sweet Macha deserved some warmer clothes, I think she's happy with what I made for her :)

    48. My Doom Bomi, whom I've named Darla, came a day just before Christmas. Since then, I didn't have time (and was too lazy) to actually take photos. And so, here's a long overdue photo of my Bomi. Excuse the messy background though.

One complaint I have concerning this doll is that she can't stand and that drives me nuts!!! :horror::...( I have sueded her (actual suede) and she still can't stand properly. Although, she does look amazing sitting down. But!!! I really want her to be able to stand. Any suggestions? My guess I will have to do something about those massive joints below her hips. :sigh

    49. @angelie23 I have the same problem. I also sueded but I think I may have to go the hot glue route. She's a stunningly gorgeous doll but the body is just flawed in the fact it cannot stand. Congratulations on your new girl and don't let her 'kicky' legs take away too much joy. She's still breath taking to behold.:aheartbea

@Blablette She's beauitful!!!:love:love:love Do you ever sell Doom Bomi clothes on your Etsy? I would love a place to shop for my girl.

    50. @angelie23 Mine also has problems standing up, she has some "suede" and I had hotglued her, but it's still tricky. But Bomis make up for that in being sooo cute! ^_^

@nakitaninja Thank you so much! Yes it's planned in the future, but not just yet now. I'm not sure though we're allowed discussing this here... ;-)

    51. @nakitaninja @Blablette Thanks! I may be frustrated with her but her face is definitely the cutest. The resin quality is also great...very smooth and heavy. The pros and cons cancels out. XD

      • x 1
    52. @Blablette That's great news! I'll keep checking in the future. You make beautiful things~ :aheartbea

@angelie23 The resin quality is amazing! I really love her weight and color. I'd still buy a Doom Wawa or another Bomi if it ever came back for sale. I really, truly love these girls despite their inability to stand.:3nodding:

    53. She's extremely beautiful

    54. Thank you. :XD:

    55. Dust of Dolls is having a preorder for Doom Wawa this summer!
Is anyone here going to get her?

      • x 1
    56. I am powerless to resist her! So it's a YES from me :love

    57. I really wish I could! But I will be heading to Ldoll in October and if I spend any more of my doll funds, I'll be flat broke there :P I will be living through others, but perhaps I can get a DoD cutie at Ldoll instead. Probably not Wawa, though. I have finally found the story for my Bomi, so the last thing I should do is start the whole saga for a characterless big doll again, haha.

    58. I have to preorder a Wawa... but the wait is going to KILL ME. She's so beautiful though. I have to say... even though my first love was always Volks dolls... Dust of Dolls resin is so gorgeous, heavy and smooth, I'm a huge fan. Once I met my dear Bomi, I was so in love. I wish everyone could see their dolls in person, they are even more beautiful.

If anyone is on the fence, let me assume you preordering Wawa is the way to go. :D Thank you @Nyo for offering her. We are all terribly excited!:aheartbea:dance:aheartbea

Here's my picture of my beloved Mab or Mabily who I was lucky enough to welcome via DoA from Esthy. She's perfection and I spoil her the most out of all of my dolls. :thumbup
