Dust of Dolls - Doom

Bomi is very cute, and I'm surprised it took so long for a proper discussion thread to pop up for her! One of her faceup options is by Viridian House, who is one of my favorite faceup artists (and for a very reasonable price!). I've been considering Bomi on and off, but I've also been thinking about Lillycat's dolls, too. It's really hard to choose between these more expensive artist dolls, especially when money is tight.>.<

 

Bomi has a vert sweet, youthful face. However, with the big hips and small chest combo, I think she's going to be extra difficult to clothe (though, I believe the Lillycat dolls suffer from the exact same dilemma).>.< Lots of stretchy fabric and dresses/skirts, I guess? I do love her legs, though - I'm such a sucker for full dolly calves.

EDIT: Below are some extra photos of Bomi that I found through Google. I find the nude photos on the ordering page to be too washed out to appreciate the details of the Doom body. These extras photos give a clearer view of it.

Yeah, for a long time I'm pretty sure they were Ldoll exclusive. Like Enaibi, I think they specialized in fully customized, OOAK dolls. It's only been in recent years that I have heard of them doing preorders (and very few and far between). Perhaps we will seem Bomi return in a new skin tone later or this other sculpt show up? This being the "only" preorder may actually more specifically mean "the only preorder for this sculpt in this particular resin color."

 

Ooo @Kimchi that's really interesting - and gives me hope for the future Bomis! I'm also split between Bomi and another doll... I'm actually selling my Lillycat girl for this :P But I still have to decide! I do looove her face, a long time a go when she was first taken to LDoll I fell in love with the fantastic body shape and her full smiling lips... But timing is everything!

I have my Bomi on a 3 month layaway. I would rather get her now and not miss out on having her at all. Can always trade later or sell and re-buy. I would -love- a tan version or even a fun color resin, but I don't want to hold out and then miss out. I just got in the first couple of things I am planning for her.. I ordered her with Esthy faceup. I love the freckles and rosy cheeks. What won me over was how the lips were painted.

 

Congrats on your order @vopisca! What things did you pick up for your new girl?

Personally, I plan on focusing on the dolls I already have, so I'll be skipping this preorder. However, I still enjoy discussing this girl!

 

@Kimchi I got a peacock colored wig and a few eyes in different shades of purple and mint. This will be my first SD sized doll.


I know the Doom body is relatively new but has anyone seen any references to clothing that might fit? Those hips are destined for custom pants for sure.

Hello everyone! Joining in on the excitement of Bomi. I will be ordering her on 3 month layaway tomorrow morning when my paycheck comes in. I thought about it long and hard ever since I first saw notices that she would go up for preorder. I love her to bits, but she was so unplanned and so expensive. But I know how much I will regret not getting her. Even if she gets offered in different skintone in the future, this is the skintone I want for her. So I'm jumping in with both feet, getting her the Viridian House face-up (one of my favourite artists) and the blue wig (she will be Winter, quite literally, so I think that justifies the €30, haha). I can't wait, although the wait will be loooong!

As for the Lillycat dilemma: I was so there for the last weeks. Ellana on the Lune body has been on my wishlist for a century and a half and I had planned to get her this year, but I wanted to wait for Ldoll. Well, there was no way I could wait now that the Lune body is getting discontinued and they finally offer her in caramel. So she's on a 7-month layaway and I will be eating the proverbial ramen for the next three until Bomi is paid off and I have room to breathe again

 

Aww, Bomi is so adorable, I'm torn between getting her or not. I hope I can get some monies in, so that I can... Only two days left for the preorder... Oh my!

 

Well, the dress blue-haired Bomi is wearing is normal SD size, I know because I used to own it. With dresses it will probably be easier, of course. Maybe a mixture of SD and MSD stuff? My girl will need wintery things, but I think I will mostly do my own sewing for her. I'll certainly try some standard stuff as well, though!

I know, two days is really not long! I hope you can swing it!

@Wennie That is a really good point. I will definitely be trying a mixture of clothing sizes and styles. My taste tend to veer into fantasy rather than reality.... come to think of it her sculpt reminds me of my fallout 4 face. Hmm. Food for thought.

 

@vopisca - I think it will be fun to experiment a bit, I'm sure she will look amazing in anything!

So I just woke up and proceeded to order her straight away. I'm so happy!

 

Missed out on Esthy face-up, I was going to order her that way but I waited too long. Now I'm still debating due to the price, I'm leaning towards buy though. The other doll I was considering was lillycat lyse in caramel. I think Bomi's face might win out here though and her more pronounced shape. Only my opinion though.

 

I do not know if anyone else saw this but Dust of Dolls did a cute little Bomi video. It is wonderful to see her on video rather than just still photos. It makes that blue wig look almost teal and now I am thinking I should have picked it up! Shoot.

 

I glanced at her and moved on, but that video has me practically aching to pick her up!

 

@revien I was thinking to myself, self.. wouldn't company's sell waaaay more dolls if they posted little mini-videos of sculpts like this? I mean, that's what I anxiously wait for in box opening videos... I mean, that Viridian House faceup is gorgeous. I have an Esthy coming my way.. but wowie.

Wow, that video makes her look utterly amazing. I'm extra pleased now that I'm getting her with that face-up and the wig!

 

Hello! >w< I also got a Bomi ;;w;; (someone helped me and now I'm trying to sell stuff to pay them back!) I am sooo excited! I will actually make mine into a boy, who previously was a MNF Chloe long-long time ago (like the song)! Can't wait to get the dolly and try all the stuff I got on it, see what fits and what not, and of course, make a wig and face-up it *u*

Some things I noticed mentioned in the thread btw?
1. Lillycat's Lyse -will- be resold, the thing that is going to be out of production is the body! So if you want a Lyse, you can wait till a later time, but it will be on a different body
2. Enaibi might not go back to Ldoll ;( I actually got some anime eyes from her over on Flickr and sneakily asked her about this year's Ldoll, and she said she is going to be too busy with her manga, probably. I also heard that she hasn't been to Ldoll for a couple years now.
3. Dust of Dolls weirder colors are limited -and usually? come with fullsets? from what I've seen- which means they would be more expensive >~< So this might be the best deal you can get, at least till they decide to change they're sales ways?

 

Hi @Shailara ! Congratulations on getting her. Him, I should say. I'll look forward to seeing how he will look as a boy!

As for Lyse: the body was the reason I wanted Ellana in the first place, so that's why I couldn't wait, but yes, she'll be around thankfully!

And I was at LDoll in 2014, indeed no Enaibi. I did see the Doom girls there, though! It made my decision to get Bomi a lot easier

I did it! I ordered Bomi! I milled over it for a while and I just couldn't bear missing out on her . I ordered her blank and without a wig so I'll have to let her speak to me about who she will be

Actually, if you look at her instagram (which you should totally follow!), she has SO many heads and bodies in the making *U* It's so interesting and I can't wait for her to release them! So, I'm sure she'll release her again for sure, but I of course can't guarantee you will like the body... D:

I ended up ordering her last minute, looks like she might be a bit of a challenge to dress. I've been trying to get a Miki Noxe since she first debuted, but realistically it's probably not happening. This is the first doll I've bought since then.

 

Congrats on your last minute ordering! Miki Noxe is adorable. For a few years now I've had my eye on Appi Meël, but that also doesn't seem to be happening. Someday I might get lucky at Ldoll, you never know... I'm definitely eager to see what it will bring this year. It's really the only real doll event in our vicinity this year (and by vicinity I mean two countries away), so I'm looking forward to it like a child to Christmas I can't believe Bomi will be here before then, it still feels like ages before she comes home!

 

I think the three months is here (or close) for those who ordered with no face-up- I'm hoping for box-opening pictures! I ordered Bomi with Viridian House face-up so maybe August arrival?

 

I'm still waiting *patiently* for my girl to ship I may or may not check for updates pretty frequently

 

I'm just happy to have paid my girl off I'm in the VH face-up boat, though, so I'm counting on it being a while!

 

Myself is hoping I get a shipping notice soon because at the end of the month I'm finishing exams and got to go back home...for a whole summer! D: So if the dolly ships after I leave, how will I pick her up? TT^TT; (I am ready to send DoD a message if it goes too late in the month for an address change...)

 

Oh no! I would definitely reach out of it starts to get too close to when it's time to leave. I started having issues with my local post so I have all my dolls shipping to my mom's house since she's home most days and I can pick up my packages on the way home from work. There's nothing more unnerving than worrying if they are going to send the doll you have been so excited for back to the artist!

I don't think I've ever seen their site down all ghe times I've visited...its too bad you missed the pre order period though

I agree with you . I dreamed about Ellana caramel over a year and it finally released . so I could not miss. the more I'm a fan of Rachel . But a couple of weeks ago, quite by chance one girl refused to Bomi who bought during preordera in February , and I bought a doll and is now waiting for the baby . Makeup Verdiano house . I am very happy that it happened . and glad to meet like-minded people who are also waiting for the baby Bomi

what does it mean? Doll went on make-up or just go to the factory ? I do not quite understand

 

The preorder ended in March and I saw the other day that the dolls are on their way to the workshop. I'm assuming afterwards the dolls that are getting faceups will go to the artists and the blank dolls will be sent to their owners

 

it's good. with Verdian house to wait another 2 months

Oh I don't know how many were ordered. I just know the preorder was the only opportunity to order one. Although there may be extras from people not being able to complete their layaway or if they had to order a minimum number to be casted.

I got mine as well I totally forgot to bring a wig with me, but I went, bought some yarn and made him some temporary wigs to wear! The pants and shirt I got don't fit (should have guessed, they were made for Moe Feeples...), but thankfully the dress did :V;;; I'm now making him a swimsuit, in case I take him to the beach for photos, although I would like to do that after I've done a face-up on him...

Congrats to you as well! I love his crocheted bottoms! I really have been waffling for months for my girl's style so I'm working on a wig for now. Is your boy kicky? I haven't been able to get my girl to stand yet so I see some sueding in her future.

 

I was actually going to ask you the same thing :/ I have been too afraid of making him stand, because the legs just swivel around or kick or...really, they will do -everything- except keep staight? I almost regret pulling out the little pieces of packaging, in case they'd help. I was also thinking of sueding him...

Yes! The legs go crazy and immediately fold at the knees and the ball hip joints are just constantly moving around. The wig looks good! I like the texture and color. It gives him interest

 

i just put one of these ladies on layaway and im so excited, i had the money for her JUST as the order period ended and i missed out, and someone was selling her on FB group and i snapped her up pronto, not letting her slip through my fingers again!, although my collection just took a big shuffle hit so some are leaving but im getting another one of my grails finally!
its so cool to others with thiers, she is just sublime! congrats to everyone else who is getting thiers in!

 

I got mine too! Picked her up on Monday from the post office. I will post the pictures soon. I noticed she was really tightly strung too, but figured they just did that for shipping. Has anyone tried loosening the string yet or was there not enough extra string to do that?

 

id recommend hot glue sueding if you can whilst the doll is still strung, just go slowly, that should help with the tension and friction and in time it will loosen up naturally.

 

I can try, though I've never done that before, I know that other people on the forum probably have though. I usually just loosen it a bit. Is it difficult?

 

if there isnt enough string to loosen it, i usually find the hot glue method is another good fix, its not too hard to do at all, you just need a hot glue gun, the glue and your doll!
you start whereever you like and just pull the piece away and thinly apply the glue, just be sure to steer clear of the string, you can just do one side of the piece at a time for this and you can also adjust the glue where needed.
put down a drop on the socket and spread it around with the tip of the gun,wait a few moments for it to dry enough so you can do the other side and repeat on all parts as needed and it will be done!

because the glue creates a good amount of friction, it forces the elastic to hold its position, over time it will loosen up.
