DreamOfDoll (Dream Of Children) Discussion (DoC) Part 3

Aug 25, 2013

1. I don't have many pictures of him but I will give him a new face up and start uploading more^^. Come to think of it, Mizya's beautiful boy seems to have his eyes more closed than my boy's eyes....it might be the face up or the angle of pictures.

2. Yeah. My head is a tender Zen! xD She told me he was a tender too.

3. Oh yeah....you can hardly see the eyes on tender zens....they're such cuties^^ (<- a little biased)

4. I'd love to have a Zen... not tender, but normal... I hope to buy my own Zen next year!

5. ~A*K~ I hope you get him :D and spam him a lot because I hardly see Zens anymore >_<

6. Oooh this thread is like...dead X.x where are all the beautiful DOCs?

I will spam my boys, can't let the thread die >_<

Rosiel (DOC Twin-B) and Kyoshi (DOC Zen)
[IMG]

7. I have a DOD Zen head and I'm trying to find a good body for him. Does anyone have any hybrid DOC's? What's a good resin match? And can a DOD head possibly fit on a slightly bigger neck? I'm considering a xagadoll 1/4 body but that neck is a 7.4cm vs the 7.3cm that is the DOC head.

8. Does anyone have a Kirill with lighter hair (blonde, strawberry blonde, light brown, light auburn, etc.)?
I'm planning a Kirill to be my Kellan's little brother and I'd like him to have lighter hair.
Fitzwilliam has light blonde hair, but I don't know if I want them to have the same shade of hair.

9. My Kirill usually wear dark brown. But here's he with peanut/ light brown wig. I'm planning to give him silver/ white hair someday. 8)
Sorry for nasty phone cameras though. >_<
[IMG]

10. Ohhh, thank you!
I like the light brown.
I keep going back and forth of what shade of hair I want him to have.

11. Sooo shoe style question. Anyone able to recommend some MSD boots that are hobbitish elfish looking? All I'm finding are punk, gothic, or Mary jane shoes x_X its a gift and I need some help lol.

12. How about these? They're on ebay, not sure what company or anything, but they look more rustic.

13. Can someone tell me what size wig the DOC's wear? I can't find it listed anywhere.

14. Mine wears a 7-8.

15. I'm entirely confuzzled!
I received my Tender Too in the mail, and when I went to take off his head to change his eyes and I was so surprised!
Does anyone know how to take off a head like his?
Thanks,
Dreamer In A Box

16. If it's the older Dream of Doll head, the s-hook connects to a resin loop in the headcap. The easiest way to get it off is to slip a thumbnail or something strong but not sharp in at the top of the head and apply some leverage. If you are careful, you can slide the head cap back and then remove it from the s-hook.

This is how my Dream of Doll DoC Tender Yen came in 2005. I don't know if the sculpts have been changed at all since then. If they have changed (magnetic headcap system or something) then I don't know. Is the doll new or second hand? If second hand, do you know when it was made?

~~~
I think Mis-read the original post. Unless the head's have been modified, you must remove the s-hook to remove the head. You can place a pencil or something soft edged but strong between the head and body so you don't lose the strings, but older heads had a round hole, no way to slip the s-hook through.
My friend PherretLord modified my head to have a slot with his dremel so that I could easily remove my Tender Yen's head.
17. Thank you so much! He's from 2007, so that sounds about right. I'll have to get his head sent off then to be modded-- makes you wonder why they made round holes though, haha.
How do you put said head back on?
18. You put the head back on with lots of swearing and an extra set of hands. Or at least I did. If you have a string puller that helps, but you can make do with a piece of strong ribbon. You push it through the elastic, thread that through the hole, remove the s-hook, pull through the head, BRACE yourself, and slip the s-hook back onto the elastic. If you are lucky you can do this without hurting your hands, damaging the faceup, or a liberal application of swears.
If you are not lucky.. just re-string the whole doll and start with the s-hook in the head.
19. Thank you so much for all your help :D
I did as you suggested (and cursed just a little) and his head is back on-- not for long though, I'm going to have his neck modded for easier head removal and I'm getting a new face up for him-- his face up is damaged and I haven't had time to wipe it yet. But he's absolutely adorable~ I named him Gabriel, because he's such an angel :3
[IMG]
20. Congratulations! He looks great, and I look forward to seeing him all done up with his new faceup. :) My Tender Yen needs a faceup.. and a body.
21. Are you wanting a DoC body for your Yen or are going to make them a hybrid?
22. I am considering other bodies for him. If I could get an undamaged (or only minor damage) body that was about 10 years old I'd put him back on Dream of Doll, since I got him new August of 2005. At this point I am thinking probably a hybrid will work best. I'd like to put him on a white skin active line muscular Minifee body, but I think that young face would look a little bit silly.
I had him on a Dollmore boy body but it made him too tall and skinny for my tastes.
23. Hmm, I would go with a Luts body if they color match-- they have younger looking bodies.
24. I am not aware of Luts doing color matching, and even 10 years old mellowed DOD resin is not a great match to current real skin resin. I do have an NS Kid Delf 3 body incoming for another head, and I can see if it's a viable match (aside from coloring) but if I remember correctly I tried my DOC head on my Ttori's body and the fit wasn't great.
For what it's worth I ended up getting a White Skin Bluefairy Tiny Fairy body, and it works for the character. The neck looks a little bit long, but it's nowhere near as bad a match as his previous body was. Ro needs a faceup but I'll post a photo of the hybrid once he's together again.
25. Question for everyone! I have a friend selling a pair of TTYA jeans and I am interested in them. I think they are slim though. I've heard that slim clothing doesn't normally fit DODs.... I have a DOC Kirill. Any thoughts?
26. I have a pair of ttya pants. They are on my mnf boy, I doubt they would fit my doc boy but I'll give it a shot for ya...
Well! Butter my butt and call me a biscuit. They fit!
[IMG]
Very tight on the hips, I can't get his thumb in the pocket. But they fit snuggly and he can even sit fine with them. I'd say go for it!
27. Been ages since I've posted in the DOC thread(s) but I thought I'd drop by and share of a photo of my Elf Petsha, Lenneth:
[IMG]
Introducing Ferdinand by Mint, on Flickr
Ferdinand is not Lenneth's horse (I bought him for the BJD I hope to order this summer), but earlier today she couldn't resist riding him. I really love DOCs; I rarely see them anymore, though. Someday I would still love to adopt a Zen.
• x 1
28. PeppermintPocky I love your shot of Lenneth and Ferdinand. I feel that I don't see many DOC's anymore, either. They were my first loves in the BJD world.
mikobabe89 Chiyo looks very sweet!
Has Dream of Doll ever discontinued a sculpt? Looking at the website, it seems they have the same sculpts, plus new ones, as they did when I entered the hobby in 2004. The other remarkable thing is that the prices look just the same, too.
I have a Twing-key head on a Normal Pink Angel of Dream body. The head was purchased secondhand and was yellowed, but a commissioned face-up lightened the yellowing considerably. The head and body match well.
29. mikobabe89 Your Petsha is so cute! I love her big eyes. :D
Thank you, ophelia. :) I agree with your sentiments about the lack of DOCs these days. My Petsha was the first BJD sculpt I fell for and without her who knows if I would've ever entered the hobby (a sad, sad thought for me... but not my wallet).
I'm pretty sure most DOCs are still around. There were a few LEs that I don't think you can buy anymore (Lapin, Chat, etc.) and I know you can't buy Mint&Daisy as a pair anymore, only separately. I think Wu (Woo?) may be sold out, too.
Do you have a photo of your Twing-key? I'd love to see her. She's one of my favorite DOC sculpts. <3
30. ophelia
Thank you ! She's so happy to hear that.
PeppermintPocky
Thank you ! she's wearing 16mm Mako eyes. I got her set with green eyes (they give randomly) and I prefer her to have blue eyes !
I was having shame time when I don't play with her anymore, since she's the smallest crew. I'm more happy to bring around SD. However, since I changed her faceup, I see potential in her. She looks rather the way I wanted her from
default faceup. She is my first dollie too.
It's hard you know, when you have bigger size doll, the smaller crew feel not getting use anymore. However, I will keep her forever for sentimental value. She is my first character.
31. @PeppermintPocky Thanks for the information. I have been checking the site off and on for years in order to reassure myself that my favorite sculpts are still available if I choose to purchase them some day.
Here are some pictures of my Twing-key, named Hero, that I took recently, in her vintage dress, black mohair wig and 16 mm glass brown eyes. Besides Tender Bee-a (my original dolls were Tender Too and Tender Bee-a) she was my favorite sculpt. I always thought her sales pictures, bio and name were so sweet.
[IMG]
[IMG]
@mikobabe89 I know how you feel! I spend most time and money on 70 cm dolls now. But these 45 cm dolls hold a special place in my heart, since they were first.
32. As much as I love DOD I'm not a big fan of their bodies... I recently hybrid my original Yu on to a DZ body and I'm loving it. Every time I wipe his face I'm reminded how much I love Yu's sculpt, so I'm thinking about buying another Yu head and some outfits(I totally forgot they sold outfits! Wow!). Since my Yu is really old and yellowed I've decided to paint him white, but I do love him in pink skin too so I think another Yu is in order! So here's a shot of how my little Orion is currently. Still not matching perfectly with the DZ white skin but getting there. He just looks great with or without faceup.... Sigh... My first love haha
33. Vividstar A faceup could make the resin color differences less apparent. I know it worked wonders when I tried to match my DOC's head to a AOD Normal Pink body.
34. ophelia Your Hero is so adorable! Thank you for sharing. And I def' agree about wanting more DOCs sculpts; someday I'd love to own a DOC Zen. I've loved him ever since I first saw yumi~ 's sweet Kyoshi. :D
35. PeppermintPocky thank you very much! yumi~'s Zen is lovely. DOC's give me the feeling I first had when entering the hobby, that dolls are to be cherished, loved and spoiled. I considered them less as material objects.
36. Can I request some Si spam? Actually, any DOC spam would make me happy. Lately I've been thinking of getting my sweet Lenneth a sibling sooner than planned and I'm trying to narrow down my sculpt choices.
Also saw an adorable Twin-B boy in the box opening section and have been swooning over his photos since then. :D
37. This is my DOC Zen! It's his 6th year with me (he came in March 2009).
There used to be so many DOCs around, I don't know where they are all gone :(
38. Hello there, hi cutie ! :D
I feel you sobbies, I less paying attention on my DOC .. :...(
39. Oh God ! You've a pretty boy there :)
40. Nijjy Your boy is SO AMAZING. He proves Zen is my favorite DOC boy, hands-down. :aheartbea
Thank you for sharing him. Please post more photos soon!
41. Thank you guyss, I really love my sweet boy (and Zen mold in general) :D
Unfortunately I have to wipe off his face up soon, his face is getting really dirty (it has been 6 years after all).
Will update here again once I got him a new face up :)
42. Nijjy your Zen is beautiful!
I too would love to see Si, if anyone has him. He will always be a favorite of mine.
43. Does anybody know what's going on with DOD's payment system?
Credit card system doesn't seem to be working, paypal isn't available, and wire transfer costs extra $20...
I'm trying to order my first DOC ever but just can't seem to get to the payment page. :(
44. Hi everyone ! :D
My Pitts got a new face up and finally it's so easy for me to change her head, cause she had older neck hole & she got her neck hole modded. :XD:
[IMG]
@CMBato
Oh.. :( I can't find any announcement related with problem in paypal payment.
But... They said this in the notice board about the credit card payment :
How about send them a print screen about the problem ? :)
45. Your Pitts looks beautiful, @Vienni! :D
46. @PeppermintPocky
Hehe, thanks, Dear~ :)
I'm glad to have her for my first doll, since 6 years ago~ :XD:
Hoping to see more of your Petsha~~ :aheartbea
49. Aww, thanks, @PeppermintPocky <3
I think he was the first doll I ever wanted to own when I was new to the hobby. I still love him to bits! <3
We need to see more DOCs, I agree with all of you, we don't see too much of them anymore. Dx
50. Hi! May I ask DoD/DoC fans what sort of head closure mehanism is typical for this company / size range / perhaps specifically Bee-A?
I have come into ownership (from DoA marketplace) of what appears to be a well-loved Bee-A head and am tying to verify her legitimacy. The head cap is a twist-on style which concerns me - then again, I'm not familiar with DoD. Is a twist-on cap normal?
I haven't been able to find anything on Google about counterfeits of Too/Bee-A, though! Are DoCs known to be victims of counterfeiting? I really want this head to turn out to be legit! She is lovely despite her scuffs and stains. This head fits on both MSD and 50cm size bodies so nicely!
51. @Lokinta I'm not sure if they've added magnets to the newer dolls, but DoCs used to have the S-hook connect to the headcap (if that's what you mean by twist-on style), so there's a very high chance she's legit. I've had a ton of DoC heads come through between 2005 and 2009 and they all had that kind of headcap. I don't think there are recasts of them anyway, because they're not popular enough and go for quite cheap on the second hand market as well.
[IMG]
This is what they look like.
52. Thanks very much for the visual @Yenna! That's entirely different from what I have..
53. Oh, well that's definitely clearly modded, and I think I heard of someone doing that years ago, too. I like my DoCs having the s-hook in the headcap, although it's harder to remove, because it improves the posebility of the neck, but that's a really well done mod. There's no way it could be a modded fairyland head anyway, they use a completely different light, shiny, pink/orange resin (in normal skin) and their heads are so thin there's not much room to carve grooves like that. Only their big dolls use the twist -style anyway.
I wish you'd show us her face too. :3
54. Congrats on your girl, @Lokinta! I'd love to see her face, as well! Not enough DOCs these days. :D
I agree with @Yenna RE: the legitimacy of your Bee-A head. I have never seen any of the DOCs flagged on recast lists, although the DOTs and larger have been copied (unfortunately). Shame we have to worry about that. My bet is the doll is modded, because if you look at the top part of the headcap, it almost looks like that "ridge" in uneven which may have occurred while sculpting/modding the area.
If you are still questioning her authenticity, you can always share photos of her (privately) with the mods in the "Ask the Mods" section of the forum. I've read they are happy to help in that scenario, especially if the trade was initiated via the MP.
55. Thanks @PeppermintPocky! Yes, I was being careful to not post her face anywhere due to not knowing what she was & dreading bad news. I am way pleased to find out who she is!
Last time I had recast-on-DOA concerns I was advised in Ask The Mods to "ask the seller," and "ask in the discussion thread about what's typical"
So this time I tried to cut to the chase without being all-out.. "out.." if there was an unfavorable diagnosis!
Ahh, I'm not Fairyland savvy so all of that is nifty new comparison info to me. Thanks, @Yenna! Even so, I don't know how thick FL recasts are, and that's what I was mainly afraid of her being.. I spent hours looking at FL sculpts, ruling out meticulously, "could she have been modded from that? ..no, probably not that one. next.." The ears were what eventually convinced me she is a DoD and the deeep and long sweeping eyelids are what narrowed me down to either Too, or Bee-a.. DoD are all new in my eyes, so it has been an exciting investigation!
(Removed image of face..)
Heh, sorry for a cross-eyed shot. The 16mm eyes weren't sitting well in her head.
One last "thanks!" for your thoughts and help! Please introduce us to some new DoC friends! <3
56. @Lokinta, you're welcome. However, now that you posted the photo of the face, I'm sorry to tell you that that's not a Bee-A. She may be modded from the original sculpt, but she's not a DoC sculpt at all. I don't think there's any doubt of her legitimacy, though. She reminds me more of some chinese company sculpts (but I can't tell them apart, because I haven't looked into them). If you're interested in finding the actual sculpt, I'm sure someone would know if you posted in the picture request threads asking who she is.
Edit// My friend found her. She's Asleep Eidolon Cherry. There are some blank photos of her in flickr too, and it's definitely her.
57. Echoing what's already been said---her face sculpt is certainly not like any DOC I've seen, and Bee-A's head, in particular, has a chin that comes to a more pronounced point (example here). Perhaps her body is still a DOC body, though? Could be a hybrid. Would you be kind enough to post a photo of her body, too, @Lokinta? :)
If she is indeed an AE Cherry, AE minis have heads with approx 18cm circumferences. My DOC Petsha, for comparison, is closer to 16.5cm (although to be fair Petsha is one of the smaller DOC heads). I own a lot of minis made by Chinese companies, but unfortunately AE is not one of them.
You may want to share photos of her in the AE mini thread to see if she should have any defining marks, etc. since a few AE minis (including Cherry) are on the recast list. I'm not suggesting your doll isn't legitimate, but it would be beneficial to you to get additional opinions from current/past AE owners.
She is a cutie, regardless of sculpt. :daisy
58. Awh no! I'm really sorry to have generated excitement over the wrong thing! :doh I'll look more into that company and sculpt. Thanks. And now back to the sinking feeling..!
I measured this head at 18.3cm
Since the head cap system seemed so apparently re-done though, I questioned how much the upper head may have been reshaped.
I bought the head alone on the MP, it was labeled only as unknown faceup and mod practice head. I took the chance because I trusted DoA's MP to be a safe place to buy and thinking I could research the sculpt after the fact.
The bodies I have been using with this head are Bluefairy Tinyfairy (Mini size). It fits well, but with the neck opening being wide (silicone kip keeps it stable) and the resin match rather close.
Thanks you two, I was so excited and pretty sure! Thanks for fine-tuning my search for the truth :aheartbea
59. The head size alone isn't a good enough distinction in Dream of Doll's case. I have a Yen who has a teeny tiny head, but I also have a Mir whose head is also in the 18cm circumference range, so... Their head sizes vary a ton. The aesthetic alone is a good enough basis because there aren't many dolls with the same kind of sculpting around, it's very distinctive.
That's no problem. I know that current AE heads have magnets so something could've happened to that and that's why it's modded, or then they didn't always have magnets and that's why it's modded... who knows. xD
