Dream Valley Mini Discussion Thread

Feb 6, 2018

    1. Still waiting for my pair but man i'm starting to second guess my choices nghhh.

I got one in tan and i'm nervous about styling that as the tan is quite transparenty. How is it actually irl once it's sealed and faceupped?

And the other I was going to dye but i'm wussing out and thinking I might just blush the tips of his hands, ears etc instead, keeping most of him white. but i'm not sure.

      argh.

this is the problem with long waits, there's time to doubt yourself.

    2. @shruggoths I feel like you got my two least favourite girls from dream valley (which isn't saying much cause I like them all) and made me like them. Thorn looks way cuter in a short bob and Hyaline looks more serene in that light blond wig.

    3. @chatdemon oh i meant shopping for her is hard since she has the third arm so if you don't wanna cut a hole you have to pick out something backless :XD:
I just shopped for msd sized clothes and everything fits both of them perfectly fine, i've heard from others that their feet are very small for a msd though! i got some zip-up sneakers for Iao and they were pretty loose but they stayed on so all's well that ends well?

@Rabu Haha yeah I noticed the two sculpts I got seem to not be as popular (on this forum at least) I thought Thorn was adorable and I think I got Hyaline over Silence because I specifically wanted the black forehead markings. The blonde wig was just instant love as soon as I put it on her, I agree that it makes her look more serene! My Thorn just looks so much better with short hair it's mind-boggling, thanks so much for your compliments! And sorry for typing so much, I just have lot to say lol

    4. I got the 3-armed body today that I ordered waaaay back at the end of July last year. The WS resin is bang-on a match for the SD WS Phiel head that was going on the body. My only issue is that DV strung him so crazy tight I almost couldn't get his head on. He creaks when I move his limbs. I've currently got him sitting seiza with his arms crossed over his chest and will leave him that way for a while to hopefully loosen him up a tad. If not, re-stringing is in his future. He does stand wonderfully though and is exactly the tall, skinny drink of water he needed to be.

Also, for anyone who ordered just a body, does DV send a CoA for the body or just whole dolls?

    5. @Iron_Dog - That's great it is a perfect resin match. I did not get a COA with my body.

    6. @xyuemoto Thanks for the info. I emailed Legend Doll to double check just in case because it never hurts to ask.

    7. Ooh im excited i ordered in july! Hopefully my dolls will be ready soon

    8. I was start of July BUT via a dealer so i'm not expecting it till Feb at the earliest.
Still, it'd be nice to get my two boys.

It's the most expensive bjd purchase i've made to date lol. And i'm already second guessing myself. I hope I love them when they turn up because i'm nervous.

    9. I can say that the resin is very nice and has a good feel to it. Very slight "tooth" as opposed to the silky feel of some of my other guys and I don't recall seeing any seams (if there are any, they're very minimal), which is much more than I can say for some of my guys (I'm looking at you FL/Soom).

    10. help! I need some advice, the new dream valley spring event dolls are absolutely magnificent and I love the sculpt and the adorable tiny bee freebee (heh) but I can’t think of a character I can make of a male bee but several for a female!

Anyone that knows dream valley well (I’m new to the hobby) will they release a female bee within the spring event, in another event, or not necessarily at all?

Love the sculpt but can’t spend so much on a character I can’t shell.

    11. I doubt they will release new dolls in this specific event, but they may make future bee dolls in another event in the future.
They have previously released brand new dolls related to previous events, and rerun old event dolls to tie in, so it's a possibility. However Dream Valley is also relatively new to the scene, so they haven't established much of a record yet to predict what they will do.

I think if you're absolutely enamoured with it, you should consider purchasing it anyway since you can always mod it. That said, are you talking specifically about the baby bees? Because they seem genderless to me, you could make them anything you like. The 1/4 bees are intended male, but tbh you could mod them. Pinch the waist in, sculpt some breasts, etc - or purchase a 1/4 female torso and drill holes in the back for wings, etc. That's quite a bit of work, but... if you are very set on having a bee, it could be a safer option than leaving it. It's anyone's guess whether they will reprise this event, they only did that once before for an event that seemed particularly popular.

    12. I definitely wouldn't count on them releasing a female version, but you can try dropping them an email to see if they respond.

      • x 1
    13. I was talking about the 1/4 boys but I also want a baby bee <3, I think the alterations are reasonable, it just seems a lot to do for the already high price? I’ll see how I feel near the end of the event I think?

    14. Yes! I sent a short email just in case, I figure they’ll say no if they will not and say they can’t say if they were planning to. Or see if they’d be willing to make any changes for me (I think the butt is the same for male or female so it’d be wing holes for the back only hopefully?)

      • x 1
    15. They might for a future sale. They did for the yo sized wolves. The first time the released them it was just the 2 boys glen and aiden then for a more recent sale they also had a girl wolf julie

    16. That’s what I was hoping but I think they only did a boy version of the dragon 1:4 doll, and I thought that release was more similar?

    17. They still might. The 1/4 dragon boys are newer, i dont think any of them have shipped yet. So they might do a girl dragon even, someday in a future release. And sending a message asking for a girl bee will help, they are more likely to make things they know will sell

    18. What size eyes do people use for silence and hyaline? Could anyone show me 12mm and 14mm? I have both on order and am trying to plan

    19. I just wanted to say: My Greyson dragon boy has taken flight -^3^-
I'm hoping to have him home soon and be able to share here. :love<3

    20. My order just got here today and wow! I got Silence and Hyaline with opposing monster arms. Im really impressed, They are beautiful, the resin feels great, not a single seam anywhere. And they pose even better than i expected. I think the thigh joint works and looks better than any other doll ive had. Ill be posting some pics later and doing some tests with the monster arms.

    21. @whooganana Did you find that your guys were really, really tight? I had to have Kheima's body restrung because he was frighteningly tight and creaked alarmingly whenever I moved any part of him. I almost couldn't get his head (SD Phiel) on because the DV body was so tightly strung.

    22. Yes! They were ridiculously tight. I already restrung them last night since it was bothering me. I had some trouble though, because the string channels are very narrow, and i dont particularly like how the monster arm is strung with the legs. But they are looser now and still pose great and im going to be experimenting with the monster arms anyway. Right now ive one girl strung normal and the other with both monster arms instead of regular.
I just have IG to share right now, but heres a quick shot of them

    23. Yeah, not keen on the arm being strung with the legs but there doesn't seem to be another way to do it. Kheima is still a great poser with looser stringing. The monster arm is a tiny bit less able to hold certain poses, but I'll take that over being afraid to move his parts for fear of damaging him.

      • x 2
    24. Yes definitely. I hate when dolls squeak, it like nails on the chalkboard. Ill probaly wire the monster arms eventually too, to help it hold poses

    25. Oh that‘s interesting info if I ever need to restring my 3-arm girl. Not changing much in the way of process of course but I like being mentally prepared!

I agree that Dream Valley really are some great posers! I have the (normal) boy body and one of their event fox-anthros additional to the girl one and all of them are really amazing!

    26. I absolutely love the DV male msd body but like... he's s o t a l l

I have no idea who I could pair him with. I wish he was closer to the height (and price) of the female.

    27. @ashbelEro I'm probably already a bit immune to size differences, but I honestly don't think they are THAT tall?
I mean, yes they are taller than most, but they are not that taller, that it's... uh... weird?
Here's a group pic of my DV hybrids (left boy and middle girl) with an Luts MDF girl: Wildcard Dragon on Instagram: “The 3 main figures of my ‚dark‘ kingdom amongst my BJD group. Left is the Dark Knight (a Souldoll Joelle head on a Dream Valley body),…”

He's like a head taller than the DV body hybridded girl and a head and some than the Luts MDF girl.
Personally I don't think that's too big to come of weird as the average sized MSD girl, but I know a lot depends on personal preference :3 So there is that.

    28. Got a comparison with DZ/DC/DV bodies in my flickr gallery if you want.

      • x 1
    29. the tallness is fun. I love height variation. My three armed boy is gonna be the ringmaster of my monster circus so having him super tall I think should work well. Bwhahahaha.

    30. I can't say a peep about size differences between couples because I have quite a few where that's a very deliberate thing. Kheima (SD Phiel head on DV 3-arm body) is partner to Ravir (Batchix Dark Elf). Their height difference isn't all that much at just 1cm or so and they're both skinny AF guys so it doesn't seem... noticeable. Kheima also has a very floofy wig.

      The largest height gap in a pairing is between Fei-Lau/Khale and Sleet. Fei-Lau and Khale are 68cm. Sleet is 30cm. Moswen/Kijika are 46/58cm. Kulfi/Akusuo are 57/68cm. Wu-Tyr/Yalaren are 68/62cm. Malachite/Qayin/Ji-Sun are 57/60/62cm. Liroshan/Sancire are 53/51cm. Arjan/Oleander are 56/60cm.

Two of my pairs have large differences in height but it's not much of a thing because half of the couple are Nagas and the eye sort of "ignores" the height difference their tail gives them. Hylocereus/Deagan are 60/40cm and Dolf/Nassano are 30/45cm.

    31. @Snowy
It’s mostly that I prefer MSD size boys so I’d prefer them around 44-46. And also that this boy is a skinny who needs a bigger boyfriend. And I’d have to go up to the next size for that lol

    32. @ashbelEro Well, there is bigger in height and there's bigger in overall body size. If you want bigger in height but not a lot bigger, your choices are somewhat limited.

SD Vito is 52cm, they are muscled and they're also available all the time. Raccoon Dolls are 51.5cm, fairly muscled and usually have an order period reasonably often. Batchix's boys are 51cm, skinny AF, but you can only find them 2nd hand and it's rare to do so. Soom ID51's are 51cm, muscled but releases are not frequent and they don't often hit the 2nd hand market. Aggati boys are 50cm and pretty buff but you need to watch their Flickr account for when an order period opens up. Granado did a crowdfund for a 53cm Lucifer (and there is one in the MP right now). Iple FID muscle body is 49.5cm and they are very buffed. Iple Creea-J are 50.5 and skinny AF (and an order period is open right now). Unoa Elder are 50cm but be advised that they don't have boy bits (if that's important to you) and I'm not sure how ordering them works.

If you want/need any shots of those alternates I've listed next to the DV 3-arm body, I can do that with the exception of the Aggati and Unoa boys as I don't own any of those. There are also a couple of other under 60cm/over 50cm boys kicking around but they're more on the upper limit (56-58cm). I have a couple of those, too, and could list them if you want.

    33. @Iron_Dog

Thanks. I don’t really know yet. I think I’m just gonna keep an eye out for styles that look nice together.

    34. @ashbelEro Oh, that’s a bit tricky then.
Other than the suggestions already given, i can otherwise only think of maybe beheading you boy to put him on a shorter one and giving the boyfriend the bigger one. Or, if you need something in between the Dream Valley one and the Souldoll Vito one, maybe grab a Conarium boy/body.

If you need pics of the DV boy sitze with a Souldoll Vito, I have both and will be happy to provide pics if it helps finding a potential partner ;)

    35. Actually, weird request... could you try the Vito head on the DV body? I’ve been wondering if that would work for other reasons.

    36. There may be issues with the neck hole size between the DV body and the SD Vito head with the SD Vito head hole being too big. I can say with 100% accuracy that the SD Kid head fits bang on and the DV WSand SD WS and a near perfect match. Also depending on manufacturer, the SD VIto boys take a large/stretchy 6/7 or a smaller/tight 7/8 wig so the proportion of head/body might look a bit odd.

    37. @ashbelEro Actually not a weird request at all! I'll try to do it tomorrow, when I have better light.

@Iron_Dog I agree, that might be the issue.
I have a Souldoll Joelle on the DV body myself and it's a perfect fit - the WS also match great! Also agree on the head size. I have... 4 (I think) Vito heads and they variate quite in size. I'm using stretchy 6-7 on all of them thought XD

      • x 1
    38. There are actually a couple SD Kid heads I was looking at... interesting idea.

    39. @ashbelEro I'm biased as I have a Phiel head on the DV 3-arm body but in my opinion, the proportions are very nice/natural looking.

    40. Pic? I was gonna check but your doll list is very long...

    41. @ashbelEro Yes, the list is loooong. I'm at 64 dolls now. A good number of them are unusual/rarely seen, too. I didn't mean for that. It just happened that way.

I'll try to get some pics of Kheima in the next day or so as it's closing in on midnight in my neck of the woods and 7am comes hideously fast (or so it seems). He's currently blank and waiting his turn to get sent to the face-up artist. But he has his wig and eyes so yea for that. I still need to make him a shirt of some sort to allow for his 3rd arm. I'm planning on bringing him in to work with me tomorrow because my office is cool like that.

    42. @ashbelEro Hi again :3 Here's the hybrid attempt. I think it's dependant on personal taste wether or not this one works out. Personally it wouldn't work for me, I prefer 6-7 sized heads on this kind of body.
Wildcard Dragon on Instagram: “Pics from a #bjdhybrid request. It‘s a #dreamvalleybjd boy body combined with a #souldollvitoelan head. Depending on taste this xould work,…”

@Iron_Dog XD That sounds totally like something I would say (about the collection).

Also: Surprise today! Last time I checked this morning, my DV parcel had only just left china. Well.
The post officer apparently didn't knew that XD I got two parcels today.

Link to pics (nude and fullset + Gary (blank) + another doll of mine at the end): Wildcard Dragon on Instagram: “Surprise arrival alert!!! This handsome and strong dragon is #dreamvalleybjd ‚s Grayson! I purchased his fullset (for once) and only…”

    43. @Snowy I love the jacket on the DV body/SD Vito head shot. Where did you get it? Also the Grayson looks great. I like the body a lot and especially the little hands on the top joint of his wings.

      • x 1
    44. @Iron_Dog :blush Thank you. I made it myself. I mostly dress my MSD cast in medival/fantasy and similar clothes. I always pic up fabrics with small patterns that could work whenever I spot some. Cause if I don't snatch them when I see them, I dare betting it won't be there anymore when I actually have a use for it XD

I love nearly everything about the Grayson. What I just realized that I don't like, is that the dark colored parts already left thin black lines here and there (like drawn on with a pencil, but they aren't). Some are on his chin I mostly got them faded already, but I dare not rub longer.
I also don't know what it is, but the pants need to go. I need to think of a replacement, cause I don't want the butt to be flashed on the backside for some 'mooning', but ... yeah ^^° i already can hear myself grumbling about having to unhook the claw-legs again and rehook them but ... somehow I don't like the pants on MY Grayson, even thought I didn't mind them at all on the company pics.

    45. @Snowy I hear you on the fabric front. I have an embarrassing amount of fabric for doll clothes because like you, if I see something I believe will work for my guys, I snatch it up. I frequently buy fancy cloth napkins at the second-hand store as generally 1 napkin is just enough fabric to make a pair of pants or a short sleeve shirt/jacket and usually any patterns are fairly small.

I had a chainmail crotch cover made for Skerren (Akhmel Nathan) but he almost always goes without because he doesn't like wearing clothes. Darius (RS Pixiu) is the same way. I need to fight them to get them into something that covers at least the parts that need to be covered in polite company.

    46. I'm having trouble figuring out a wig for Grayson. His fullset one, is it a regular wig or is it specially shaped? I tried a few wigs I had here and honestly NONE of them worked that well with his horns so i'm a little stumped.

    47. Ooh yeah @Snowy I’m not digging that. Too big. Something smaller would be better. I only really like big heads on kid-looking dolls lol.

    48. @Iron_Dog: Team fabric prepared! *high-fives*
Unfortunately cloth napkins are not a thing where I live - at all. But my fabric store is cool. You can even just buy 20 or 30 cm.

That said, I really need a name for my Grayson ^^° I might keep Grayson as last name actually.
XD Dolls who don't want clothes or don't need shoes can be as much of a blessing as a curse XD
But after today I get the fighting them into clothes parts. Wowies. Resitance is a hand cramp, honestly.

@purple_monkfish His fullset wig is unfortunately a regular one. I'm usually working with Velcro and I honestly think that is what's working out here too, or I can't see how the wig would hold otherwise, as the horns kinda push it back.
I've been considering getting one of those wigs with the ... uh... I have honestly no clue what they are called. Those with the middle part longer, then a kind of circular (backwards) shape until the ears? That might just be the perfect hairstyle for those horns ^^°

I actually only got the wig, cause I thought it to be pretty. I never planned mine for Grayson, but for now it will do :3

@ashbelEro Same actually. Maybe look into Souldolls MSD size and Vito girl heads :3

      • x 1
    49. yeah i'm thinking he may very well need a custom wig. I'm trying to decide whether longer or shorter. Disadvantage of longer is it'll get tangled in his wings CONSTANTLY which may drive me insane. Maybe a nice long braid hahaha.

    50. I've also bought fat squares at Wal-mart, which are a nice size for sewing for the MSD or short SD range. Baby clothes at the 2nd hand place can be good for doll stuff, too, as the prints are usually small and the fabric thin/light. I'll also buy stuff at the Dollar Store to scavenge for fabric for doll items.

    51. Autumn in his temporary wig and eyes.

    52. @xyuemoto Oooh, Autumns cool! Love the color on his horns, and looks like even his temporary wig has a good fit!

    53. Thanks. I'm hoping the wig I ordered for him to be the permanent wig works well too, haha.

    54. Hi! So I literally just emailed Denver doll about ordering the B4-03 body twice but one with a right monster hand and one with a left monster hand. I saw someone mention on page 12/13 that there is a difference AND then I saw someone throw the monster hand into the normal shoulder socket and now I’m foaming at the mouth about the response from them. Does anyone know where/how I can order both bodies?(one right, one left)

    55. Legend Doll is a dealer for DV. I purchased Kheima's body through them and I've been very happy with their service for both dolls and items like clothes, wigs and eyes.

    56. also jeeryama /Clover Singing is a DV authorized dealer and has a sale on -15% for a few more days, if you explain what you want with the monster arms i'm sure she could help you too, so you have options :thumbup

      • x 1
    57. Would I just email them? I've read their English isn't the best and I want to make sure I explain things as best as possible for them, any ideas on how to word the email?

    58. i'll dm if you're ok with that :thumbup

    59. I sent you a conversation request!

    60. That was probably me. I ordered mine from Alice's collections. I have both long monster arms on one body instead of the regular arms and I love it! I just received them a couple weeks ago so I haven't done much with her yet other than restring her arms (which was a little different). If you do get them be aware when you go to restring them the monster arm is on the same string as the head and legs so be prepared for a full restringing with new elastic because the pieces they come with are not the right length for the new configuration.

Here's some real quick pics showing the hands/arms
