Dream Valley Mini Discussion Thread 2

Apr 27, 2024

    1. On the one hand, Aurora is amazing. On the other, I definitely wheezed at the comparison.

    2. Just a heads up if you ordered through DDE. I was not seeing the full set option, so emailed them and they said oops our bad fixed it and had to add the full set option to the the wolf and human versions.
So now it's options for nude, and full set showing.

    3. I was so tempted to take a picture with the turkeys, but they're super attracted to shiny objects and will try to eat them immediately, so I thought better of it  The gal turkey will literally chase people if they're wearing something she thinks is interesting! Her brother's a bit lazier, but if I put this doll right next to him, he might have something to say about it.

But oh my gosh you nailed it, that's exactly what he looks like :XD:I'm not familiar with this singer but I'm never going to unsee this!

    4. @Rekka Seeing your lizard man is making me regret not getting one! Maybe DV will do something kind of similar again in the future..

I love how the new wolf boy now has Yee-howl as his official nickname! I'm a bit tempted to get a blank tan one and paint him to look like a coyote. But my doll display space is very crowded.

      • x 1
    5. I think that's quite probable, so you'll likely have your chance! If you'll permit my conspiracy theorizing, this pretty gal points to that possibility:
I gotta say that this style of clawed feet is so much nicer than Velarde's (insofar as they're a lot more dynamic) that I would almost be willing to bet that we will see another dragon/lizard, but with this style of feet.

My confidence in this is purely due to how often Dream Valley seems to read my mind, and maybe by saying this I will manifest it :XD:

But for real, I see a pretty clear evolution of Dream Valley's style with each release. Velarde improved on the engineering of the previous dragon boy... Cayes, I think? And parallel to this line, we've had Nirvana Phoenix, Maurren, and now Milien, who I feel takes the best of both of her predecessors and improves on them massively. I'm absolutely in love with these feet and if they produce a new dragon/lizard boy with the articulated toes like this, I'm not gonna be able to resist.

      • x 10
    6. Pardon the pants-less doll photo, but here's how the Phoenix Nirvana legs look on the Maurren body in case anyone was interested.

He's still using his original hip piece because it has the magnet for his crow tail, but the Phoenix legs fit perfectly with it. I actually prefer the shorter Phoenix legs than the super long Maurren legs with his body, he looks a lot more realistically proportioned now.

      • x 7
    7. Oh, thank you for posting that, I was super curious what Phoenix's legs would look like on him! I almost bought them specifically for that purpose (but now I have Milien's instead, once I'm brave enough to try unstringing and restringing) :XD: They look really good, I wouldn't know that they were not part of Maurren's intended design.

    8. That's an intriguing silhouette! Succubus is definitely possible. My personal bet is a vampire, based on a vampire bat, maybe? The ear shape looks pretty spot on for one of those little dudes. I would expect horns or something for a demon, though since these ears likely would go on with a magnet, it'd be easy to make this character into either thing... or even a dragon, albeit one with minimal dragon features.

    9. Hip-wings and high heels? Except for the ears, definite Morrigan vibes.

      • x 1
    10. I need it to be revealed already! Dream Valley hear my pleas! :eusa_pray

    11. I can't wait to see the doll that silhouette is hinting at!

    12. Well, now somebody needs to do their Yee-howl as Jon Talbain and pose them together.

      • x 3
    13. I've just decided to purchase Dream Valley's Bless Head, the 30cm (1/6) version from Alice's Collections! I'm super excited for it to arrive, but I know I'll be waiting for a while. Anyone knows how long I can expect to wait for it to arrive?

    14. She has already been revealed in various places~ For whatever reason Dream Valley is really slow at updating their english instagram, because they already posted her elsewhere. Here she is posted by Legenddoll.

      • x 2
    15. Oh no she's cute and has bat ears, I am a sucker for bats.

    16. I like the wings and the bat ears! I don't think I need the full set outfit, but it is a cute little story on the Instagram post

    17. Called it on the bat part! Those ears are so cute. I wish I could just buy assorted Dream Valley parts... cause lord knows I don't need the full doll, but if the wings and ears are readily compatible with other 1/4 DV dolls, I would buy them SO fast. I'd love to have a set of nice jointed leathery wings for an assortment of characters.

      • x 2
    18. @Rekka Dream Valley updated their Weibo today with body details, and it doesn't look like they have universal compatibility. I think one of the commentors under the post is also crying about it based on the machine translation haha :sweat

      • x 1
    19. Oh, so you can swap the wings with the arms? Clever! I really don't have a use for her, but she looks cute so far!

    20. Just when I think I’m safe, DV releases a bat maid. Man I’m going to have to get her xD

      • x 3
    21. Daphlin (the bat maid cutie) is on sale on ACBJD for a whopping 22% off so I'm putting her on layaway asap, I've never gotten a Dream Valley girl though, what's the clothing situation like? I assume the clothes I have that fit my Charm doll 45cm would fit?

      • x 2
    22. I mostly have dream valley guys so take what I say with a grain of salt but in general DV tends to run on the slimmer side of MSD. meaning that most standard msd stuff will fit but might be a touch baggy

      • x 1
    23. The body this time might be different from others, so it would be best to look at the measurements for Daphlin's body and the Charmdoll body. Both are on ACBJD so the measurements are easy to find.

    25. So beautiful!! Love her colors~

      • x 1
    26. Oh my goodness, candy corn birdie is so cute! I appreciate the total commitment to the aesthetic, what with the lil' candy corn toenails and all:XD:

In related news, a fresh arrival!

I'm glad I didn't pass up on this fellow. He might be the most elegant doll I own, and I adore the engineering on all those arms. I had a moment of moderate panic when unboxing because they had switched his primary right and left hands — I thought he might've been sent with more right hands than left— but fortunately it was an easy fix and he has the correct number of hands (for his unique case, at any rate).

The blue resin is spectacular. I really hope they bring this color back. It would be particularly amazing for a mer-creature or dragon.

      • x 13
    27. Wow he looks amazing and yes the resin color is fantastic!!

      • x 1
    28. @slight what at cool blushing job you did on your girl! @Rekka what a great color and his sculpt looks so good too!

    29. Sonata arrived today! I got her in the blue grey.

    30. Ooooh wow she is beautiful!! Is her resin different for that porcelain look they had in the promo photos, or was that an extra finish you had to buy?

    31. Yes, completely different resin color. I asked for the same blue skin resin as Rekka's doll. Coral reef was offering it for all their dolls at that moment. The promo photo's was in wall white and I think the resin was more polished or got a shiny coating for the porcelain look.

      • x 1
    32. @Rekka He looks amazing! The blue resin is indeed very beautiful. I had the opportunity to order Sonata in this colour. I am really amazed Coralreef was offering this option.

My Robin arrived yesterday, and while I don't expect to get a video of him made until the weekend, I had to do this comparison. For science.

My god, look at him. Auri still wins out on sheer mass (it's hard to beat out 'size of a housecat') but Storm here, even headless as he is, is still taller.

Next up is figuring out if I've got any matte enough sealant to use on him to be able to start painting, because it's January and the weather has inevitably turned to crap.

      • x 13
    34. @Cryptid wow! That is very tall! I'm still impressed your dragon wears his wings, I still store mine, his unwieldy enough without them! Um excited for my robin too now!

      • x 2
    35. I might have to see how my lizard boy stands next to my dragon if I can get my dragon to stand.

      • x 3
    36. The wings definitely affect how I have to position him to stand on two legs or four. A lot of the time I reference the original images that DV did to see how they positioned the hips.

      • x 3
    37. A discovery while trying to film: he's strung so tightly that even trying to raise the cords a few millimeters for his neck is extremely difficult. What's what the best way to go about making him more easily stretched with the minimum of restringing? Removing feet? (Even that looks iffy, and wow, those hooks are long. Like Christmas ornament hangers.)

ETA: I finally got it, by falling back on a combo of cord and pliers pulling: cord around the hook's upper loop, grab the cord near the hook with the pliers, and PULL, trying to avoid getting the pliers stuck to the head magnet. Yes, this WILL be in the video, though perhaps not as a demo, now that I've got his head on. head tax:

    38. all my dream valley's are ridiculously tight strung
i use a solid metal tennis racquet stringing hook since i had the kind made for dolls explode in my hand under pressure while working on my DV 1/3 boy LOL. ow.

@Cryptid he looks so good in the grey!

it's really good to see owner pics :)
I'm not sure when mine is due in yet.

    39. The 3-arm body I bought was so tight I could barely get the SD head on and even after a month of having him tied up in the fetal position, he still creaked alarmingly when I moved any of his limbs. I ended up restringing him and to get the elastic out, it had to be cut because there wasn't enough slack to take his feet off.

      • x 2

    40. Video up! @Iron_Dog I'm wondering if I'll need to do similar. The idea of trying to swap his hands out right now makes me cringe, expecting the hook injuries.

      • x 3
    41. @Cryptid While the 3rd arm doesn't hold position as tightly as it did originally, I'm 100% fine with that by getting the trade-off of being able to remove his head without needing a champion power lifter to do it for me because it was so tight. Not worrying about whether the resin would be damaged from every movement because of that tightness was also a relief.

I have more pics on my flickr and i did do an unboxing video too i'll post that sometime.

He's my first dream valley boy and i am happy! Cannot wait to customize him.

      • x 10
    43. Waiting for my dream valley bat to get home, checking my messages daily :D has anyone gotten notifications from DV about it yet?

    44. @Cryptid - Thank you for sharing the video! I agree the sculpting looks really nice. He's definitely staying on my list for now!
Edit: Appreciate the three-wolf-moon reference too. ;)

@KittyOrochimaru - Congrats on your handsome wolf! Do you already have a plan in mind for him?

    45. Yay @Cryptid I really enjoyed the video! The extra hands looks really neat and I'm glad the tail is strung on. That's a bummer about the stringing being so tight. My dragon was the first dream valley I had so I had assumed it was extra tight because HEAVY but wolfy does not appear to need super tight strings... Ugh restringing is such a pain!

And I'm happy to see another arrival @KittyOrochimaru !

I ordered the full set....and from DDE no less, so I probably have at least another month to go....but my birthday is in March so maybe he will be here for my birthday!

    46. hello!! does anyone have candle knight cadel? i am highly considering ordering him, but i'd love to see owner pictures of him first (:

    47. He's gonna be an arctic wolf! I'm still gonna keep the cowboy aesthetic but more space/sci-fi!

Also to anyone wondering about hybrid possibilities the head totally works on a female body too.
I don't really collect MSD so i only have a couple but it looks really nice! Body is a Yemaozi Body, also in Mia White

    48. @Sianserais When I started thinking about preview images, I knew what I had to do.

@skyealloway I know that restringing will likely be necessary if I ever want to get those hands on...but boy do I fear it. And feel like I may need to wear my safety goggles for it.

@KittyOrochimaru The mia white looks gorgeous. It helps show off the sculpting, I think.

    49. The new doll, Tooth, is up for sale, and looks like she might be a good option for more muscled ladies. However, Alice's is missing pics showing off the sculpt itself, rather than the fullset. Fortunately, DV did put more pics up as a gallery on their Weibo account here. I wish there was a direct link to Tooth's album for archival purposes, but no dice.

      • x 4
    50. Oh I love her sculpt, that attitude and those muscles are a fantastic combo. I went into this year planning on no more doll purchases until I manage to finally complete sewing projects for my others, but I think I'll be breaking that resolution lmao. Now to decide if I just want her snarky head or the neutral head too...

      • x 3
    51. She has a good super-hero/villain build, I think I kind of want her blank. <3
I do not normally go for girls, double so human, and/or blank, but like gears are turning for where she could fit with my other 1/4th dolls.

      • x 3
    52. Thanks for sharing the link with photos! I really like her, but no more new dolls for me. lol
Her muscle body is super cool though, I'm really glad they made this! Her extra shoulder joints look very interesting, and I hope someone posts a video trying out the posing capabilities of it.

Maybe eventually I can grab just this body to replace one I have. :dance

      • x 2
    53. @Cryptid - Also thanking you for linking that! I'd only looked at the photos on AC and didn't even realize it was a muscle body! That's nice to see. Not interested in her theme or outfit, but I do like her face too. She may have to go on my maybe-someday list, since I won't be buying her in this round.

      • x 2
    54. I think I'm going to have to get one... she's perfect for one of my OCs...

      • x 2
    55. Thanks for the video! I am guessing the head comes separately, not already on the doll? I was thinking I could use the body for Rigel (because I really don't need two identical bodies right now, not enough room as it is) and the body looks like it could stand on its own.

And thank you for this! I was thinking of using the head for a female design- there are so few female anthros and most of them look more human-like than the males, especially in the head, I was hoping to find something more equal.

      • x 1
    56. Yes, the head was separate in the box. He's very tall even without it on, which was likely their reasoning there.

      • x 1
    57. Dream Valley! (sobs in 1/4 scale is too small) The tooth-shoes! :(:...(

I understand why they are staying away from bigger dolls - 1/4 scale is much more affordable.
But man... if she came in 60+ cm, I would order so fast...

      • x 1
    58. Thanks!
I did once remove and replace an off-topic 1/12 head that was loosely strung and it felt like a lot of force, so... I'm feeling a little intimidated. I mean this should imply I can fulfill my head swapping plans easier, but still.

      • x 1
    59. I ordered a fullset on Dec 2nd and haven't received him yet. I will be sure to post him here and a box opening on my youtube as well :)
