Dream Valley Mini Discussion Thread 2

She is so lovely blank I am trying to prioritise (ie other heads, etc) so she won't get a face up in the immediate future, but this will give me time to firm up on how her look will come together. Might even make the outfit first

 

Question to the folks with the detachable limbs bodies... I can see where the elastic finishes in the arms, though accessing it looks awkward (unsure how for restringing).

But there is no way to access it in the legs. Am I missing something. Would I need to remove the magnets to restring? Does anyone know of Dream Valley providing a restring guide for this ?

Update: I understand how to restring after loosening the elastic

 

Oooh new female giraffe centaur release! I’ve always liked their previous giraffe boys because they looked super posable, but preferred a girl version. She looks even more posable with that extra torso joint and her shoulder joints. I love her eyeball theme that shes has going on, too. I wish I had the funds for her at the moment, but I’ll have to wait and see if any dealers get purple versions in-stock later on.

I can’t tell if this “Midnight Purple” color is the same as their previous purple color or not.

 

Also love the fantastic silhouette of the giraffe-taurs, and Ilya's theme is very interesting as well! She's another one I'll have to pass on for now, though.

 

I can't pass that sculpt nor that skin, so she's ordered. I think she will go well with my Souldoll Kyron. Maybe as a sibling.

My DV Ghost Moth came in the other day and she's beautiful! The downside to the resin colour is she was covered in obvious sanding marks right out of the box, even on her head. She has a white dot on her face, which I have resigned to considering as a birth mark. I suppose technically, it is!

My friend was not kidding to me about the magnets, they're not very strong so her legs come off very easily. The moth headpiece has a stronger magnet than her head magnets, so when I try to remove it the top of her head comes off instead haha.

I wish there were more resin releases like this. It's so pretty, I will be devastated once it has yellowed.

 

@aestellica protect her from the sun, and the color will last much better! I've got a 11 year old tan Fairyland doll who still looks great. I've seen on other threads on DoA that linseed oil can be used to lessen sanding marks. I think someone even said Resinsoul recommended it.

 

I recently hybrided some option hands to the anpiel...

The hands are from the 1/4 Orca (Killer Whale) male body by Whale Island/Coralreef, in Mia white.
My doll is Achelous human on B4-04 body, in DV white.



DV white is notorious for yellowing pretty fast, my doll had aged noticeably after 1.5 years - although to be fair, the anpiel wears very few clothes and is quite exposed to light. It's now yellowy-toned white. Mia white is a bit more pinkish, but still around the same level of lightness. The colours are close enough.
The Orca hands are also a tad bit small for the anpiel, but it's no big deal. Probably because the Orca body is 47cm tall, while DV B4-04 is 51cm tall. The scaling might be better for the shorter DV bodies such as B4-19.

All the Orca hand parts I got, vs. DV B4-04's default hands. The DV hands are a bit larger in size.

So if people want more additional hand poses for the DV male bodies, the 1/4 Orca body from Whale Island is a good fit, they have plenty of option hand parts.

@lutke Yep! I love how the Coralreef collective (Whale Island, Jiu Er Mao) services all their bodies with a huge variety of option hands, and such versatile poses too

I can't confirm this as I don't own the dolls, but I think CR's female option hands would hybrid quite well to DV's female bodies. It's a bit of a shame that DV has abandoned their general catalogue to focus solely on monthly LEs, and don't really make option hands anymore. But there's plenty of good hybriding in the 1/4 mature mini space nowadays.

 

Oh no, I'm in so much trouble. That's by far the best anthro face I've seen, and for a werewolf, no less! I wouldn't want ONLY the wolf face...hopefully they'll offer a both heads option? Though they'd make it easier for me to resist if they don't!

Instant buy if he has wolf paws, clawed hands, and an articulated tail! Probably an instant buy even if he only has 2/3 of those things, if I'm honest, but I think it would be a pretty safe bet to assume he's configured a lot like Hylander, so he's probably going to hit all the right notes.

(Now let's hope his price is more similar to Hylander than to Velarde... )

 

I'm curious to see the body they have to go with the head. Not that I can afford to buy it but I like living vicariously through others when my delicate money tree is currently suffering the bitter cold of financial winter.

 

Oooo, I wonder if they'll have the wolf head separately? The wait times are heinous but I've been having no luck finding a head for the T&D body i have and a wolfy boy would be perfect :3c

 

I'm really hoping it's not going to be a one off release again! (i'm currently dealing with vet bills so not the best time financially ). I'll be interested in what the body looks like, not sure if it will be a new body or the animal body used for Uncia etc?

 

Wow. I'm loving the sculpting on him so far! I have no need of a wolf boy, but I hope to see a few of them around here, eventually!

 

Oh gosh darn it, I love it too! At this point DV simply owns my wallet The only thing I'm not sure about is how thin the neck looks in the wolf version, I wonder if they're going to add some faux fur there for the full sets?

 

Oh man. I was considering putting one doll on layaway but seeing this has totally changed my plans I think! Scared to see how much he's going to cost and even more scared at him probably being LE but... he's so GOOD! I might have to justify him anyway.

 

Welp. He's all the things I thought/hoped he would be... I am definitely gonna need to get this one. The only question will be... in what color? Uggghhh that build is actually so perfect for multiple characters that I might be in for more than one, in different colors!

 

Ugh. I said I have no need for the head, and that's true. Wouldn't mind having that body in 1/3 scale, though!

I was secretly hoping I’d be disappointed by the body to spare my wallet, but he’s so good. I was just about ready to take a long break from buying new dolls to focus on the ones I already have, but of course Dream Valley comes out with the 1/4 scale werewolf doll I’ve been wanting for years. Going to have to think real hard about this one. My poor hobby savings is fighting for its life, haha.

 

Ahahah so true, though! And I literally JUST customized this exact thing via a Resinsoul body, for my DV Order head... then they go and do this and I can't help but laugh about it. And cry a little too, for what it'll do for my wallet. It's precisely what I wanted but didn't expect to see anytime soon.

I'm wondering the same about the colors and grey is my top guess. I'm torn on whether to actually hope for that, though. There's a few contenders that would really tempt me...that's one, and the exact shade of brown the Ghost Moth had is the other. Or one from the past, which I think was exclusive to the Withered horse-man? That color was spectacular (was it called "niello"?). No idea if they'd ever bring it back, but this would be the perfect time for it.

 

Oh man that werewolf is looking amazing! I really like the sculpted fur around the elbow joints and the neck piece!

 

Oh man, I really like the look of that werewolf- I thought my Orion fox (from gem of doll) was the only 1/4 canine but not any more! I wasn't planning on getting any more dolls for a while but this is seriously tempting me. I wonder if it will be limited?

 

I saw 'cowboy' and went 'oh no, i'm going to want it now!' as I love cowboy characters. But yes, the randomness of little denim shorts with full chaps is making me laugh too

 

I am obsessed with the short-shorts and chaps, and I need them immediately.

In other news, my Nirvana Phoenix legs arrived yesterday, and I gave them to my Maurren crow boy. He’s considerably shorter with the Phoenix legs, but I much prefer him to be less leggy anyway lol. Love how he looks with more birdlike feet~

This was my first time actually taking apart one of the new interchangeable lower bodies, and DV’s engineering for it is really ingenious. At least in the Maurren body, there’s built-in ledges to hold the S-hook of the torso in place while the lower body is detached. Pretty nifty!

 

Oh my god. Of all the things I didn't expect, a cowboy werewolf was what I didn't expect the most! Now, a coyote would've been on-brand. Not my thing either way, but that's not a complaint, because I'm planning to style him as a kitsune anyway (or multiple kitsune, if the price is right and there's more than one resin color I really like) and it'll be a lot cheaper without the extras!

The kitsune plan is why GoD's Orion briefly tempted me, but I didn't love the style of his face or paws (sorry, other companies, DV is the king here), so I held out for a better option...and that's what Mr Yee-howl here turned out to be.

Oh I would love to see that combination! I almost bought Nirvana's legs for that exact same purpose, but the timing was bad, and I held off. I think that probably was for the best because of the Milien release, which I did pick up, and am hoping will look as good or better than a Nirvana hybrid would have.

 

Oh no I need him more now, my only good werewolf PC is a cowboy from a WtA Wild West game. Help my wallet is in danger. XD

I have had all of one wild west PC and played James "Luck's Crooked Grin" Morris all of one night (Normally I play the other shifters not werewolves.) but like I need this wolf so much he even has blue eyes like my James did. I had no plans to shell my cowboy gambler Galliard, but here we are and Dream Valley is just like here you go one werewolf. I have needs.

That, and I'm deathly curious what the available resin colors will be (and how his blushing would look on each, unless it's like with Velarde where the makeup that was pictured was only available for the tan color). Been haunting me from the moment I saw him, and it's gonna be a huge factor in whether I get hit for the price of one doll or two.

 

Oh my word, that outfit! Yee-Howl indeed! Someone had fun designing that. Love it, but if I got him I'd have to find something else he could wear. I'm liking his human head too. Uh oh.

Yee-howl is awesome looking and definitely more realistic, I did find myself questioning my decision with Orion, until I realized one of the things I like most about big bjd's is their dramatic, smug looks. That said, if they offer the blank body for a decent price, I may be getting one of these as well, despite my plans.


Does anyone else think he deserves a horse with those long chaps? Dream valley did some great big dragons earlier.

 

If I got the full set I'd have to change him into full jeans instead of short shorts. They really are so ridiculous (to me). (Edit: I realized that might come off as a bit rude. I just prefer it to be a bit more realistic, but I totally get the short shorts are just a 'having fun with it' aspect!)

If DV makes a horse BJD...oh gosh...my poor wallet will cry even more. T-T

 

I would adore and probably blow my budget for a Dream Valley horse that was actually large enough for a 1/4 scale doll to ride.

 

Just showed my partner, we agree that he will be a pre-order. The discount is pretty sweet. Waiting for DDE to put up order info and then wait until next March or April for his arrival.

 

So I received my Velarde fullset and... my goodness, I knew his feet were big, but I'm cracking up at how comically large they are in person:


Those feet really ought to go to a 1/3 doll! But hey, they make him a pretty solid stander, so that's a plus.

But why am I only showing feet pics? Well, I guess DV doesn't do much in the way of styling their wigs... I only had Achelous for comparison and he didn't have as particular of a style as Velarde did in his promo pics. Suffice to say, I was taken a little bit aback when my Lizard Lad turned out to be doubling as A Little Lad Who Loves Berries and Cream, thanks to his half-styled, straight-banged haircut He's a bit "Farquaad Chic" at the moment.

Everything else about him is brilliant, but my poor boy even looks like he's put out by his bad hair day. I'll spare him... for now... unless the public demands otherwise No idea when I'll be able to fix this, I'm terrified to try cutting this wig, because I've never styled hair in my life.

Might be a hot minute before my plans materialize, but now that I see Yee-Howl's price range is exactly what I hoped it would be, I have some motivation to at least start practicing my character design on the Resinsoul/DV hybrid while I wait to receive the DV blank! The only question now is...which skin tone will I choose? Leaning towards the same tone as my Order head, in case I decide to abandon/repurpose the Resinsoul body I got for it.

And yes I think he absolutely needs a horse! I suppose I could try sitting him on my RS centaur in the absence of a regular horse, but I don't think either of them will be amused by that (But I sure will be!)

 

Okay, the pricing for the blank Yee-Howl isn't too bad, I might be able to budget it. The full set is def out of my budget though to be honest, I really just like the hat and neckerchief of the outfit. I am a little disappointed they haven't offered the black resin again, a black wolf option would have been cool!

Haha, same! The feet looked quite big in the photo but in real life they are giant dino feet. I love them, they remind me of my Maran chicken's feet, they had huge chunky stompy dino legs and feet too

I agree, black or even a dark grey would have been awesome! I was rooting for that Withered Horseman special dusky brown color too, not that it was likely... a dark horse candidate, if you will...

And yeah no kidding, I think my turkey's feet are smaller than Velarde's! Which is saying something, because he has HUGE dinosaur feet.

Well, if you insist, but if he decides to haunt me in the middle of the night, I know who to blame...



He really looks deeply unimpressed, and I can't blame him. The promo pictures were so good, and this is um...well, it's something, alright. Problem is, I don't think the bangs here are even long enough to make them look like the promo! So I think he's gonna end up with a whole new wig, I might just study this one's structure to try and make one that's close but has more length to work with in the front.

 

Lol, I can see the "Farquaad Chic" for sure! That tunic looks great though, even if the wig is a disappointment.

 

Once I saw it, I couldn't unsee it! But yes, absolutely everything else looks spectacular. His undershirt was hell and a half to get on, but to make up for that, the pants have really clever snaps (and a hole in the butt side, which is hilarious when his tail isn't on, but necessary for when it is) and go on super easy. No regrets getting the fullset whatsoever!

I do want to make him some cool eyes, though, because I feel like I could really amp up the reptilian look with 'em. Been thinking about how I might be able to 3D print myself a stamp of sorts to make some of those funky "keyhole"-shaped gecko pupils in clay. Or I might just do a standard vertical pupil... I'll have to try both and see what I like best.

 

@Rekka Your lizard looks great! In spite of the less then perfect wig he looks fantastic in his full set.

I have yet to put the outfit that came with mine on any of my DV lizard or dragon guys. I feel like with the magnet on arms shirts on the lizard wont be too bad, though I plan to try and get a dragon boy into this set so ready for a battle. XD

I found nice red eyes for my gray lizard, but I'm not sharing pix of Alex until he has a wig at least. Me wanting to go extreme on reptile details his face up will be a bit as got to mod eyebrows to have ridges

 

Very very tempted by this wolf! I have always loved the big half animal guys that soom has always done, so I am glad that someone is making one at this smaller scale that doesn't look like a kid!

I have never had a Dream Valley doll before though-is the grey resin really as blue tinted as it looks in their promos? I've looked at DDE and Divas and neither have a photo of what their resins look like.

DV grey is very soft blue tone grey and it's lovely in person. It's clearly grey, but there is the soft blueish undertone to it vs Iplehouse which has more of a purple under tone too it.

 

Thank you! Maybe I will just get a regular white then, the grey is a lovely color, but not quite what I would like once I airbrush.

Also, I have had Rhinestone Cowboy stuck in my head all day because of the promo pics with the shorts.

 

I was surprisingly tempted by the blank Yee-howl when I saw the price. Probably not tempted enough to get one but still, surprisingly tempted.

 

A little detail I noticed about the werewolf - he has no private parts. Not sure if he'll have separate jj parts included. I think this is the first male body that DV has made that is neutered, all previous male bodies (including Jialan the four-armed blue boy) have sculpted genitalia. I wonder if this change is in response to the recent censorship regulations that has been going through Chinese dollmakers...
Anyway, small detail but I'd thought I'd point it out!

Yes, either of those colours would have been interesting to see! At least black is the easiest colour to dye so that's an option.
