Dream Valley Mini Discussion Thread 2

Apr 27, 2024

    1. @Cryptid You are the best person. Have the happiest holidays.

Edited to add: You also appear to be the Harbinger of Christmas Dragons because my dragon is now in the UK and on it's way to a delivery depot. I may actually get my christmas dragon after all.

    2. The doll project I didn't know I needed, now if only I'll have time for it.

    3. Cedar finally showed up at DDE! I missed out on preordering him and have been waiting. I was hoping that Maurren (who I did preorder) would be in about this time, but I guess Cedar was meant to be a holiday deer.

    4. You could always make one for next year. ;)

    5. This is true, very true, and a good plan.

    6. I didn't put these in here yet. Behold, my Christmas Dragon.

    7. He looks so fab and now I'm regretting not getting the dragon in red resin all over again :love

    8. Yep next year making my dragon a hat. XD

    9. Hello all, new DV fan here ^^ I was wondering if any of you who ordered the crow boy had received yours yet? I can’t wait to see owner pictures :D Also, does anyone know if DV often does rereleases? I’m really hoping to get that crow body for myself, but I don’t know how hopeful I should be lol

p.s.- Man do those dragons look cool!!

      • x 1
    10. I ordered Maurren in a split with someone, and he shipped out about a week ago. So Maurrens will be shipping for another month.

DV rereleases stuff rarely, but in November they brought a bunch of limited dolls back for one final run before discontinuing them. So Maurren will probably get at least one more release, but not for a while. Denverdoll will probably have some in stock when they receive their shipment soon.

      • x 2
    11. The widow just showed up in Denverdoll. So, I guess someone should be receiving them soon, if not next month.

      • x 2
    12. Ah thank you both for your answers!! I will keep an eye on Denverdoll ^^

    13. Return of the bird! (Kinda) Preview for the next doll is up, a bird girl with what looks like two different lower part options-a more humanoid leg set up, that still has talon feet, and a heavily sculpted lower half.

      • x 5
    14. Oh no another bird that needs to join my incoming flock. I just keep staring at her, she’s so gorgeous!

I wonder if there will be a two-tone option like the crow boy, and what colors they’ll do.

      • x 1
    15. extremely unfair of DV to be targeting me personally that way. Especially since I can't buy her due to non-bjd plans for the year.
Unless they also offer her with a non human head, in which case damn it all, I would get her on layaway...

      • x 1
    16. I don't particularly want one but the engineering on the wings is - once again - insanely good.

My dragon is no longer just sitting on his box. Now he's sitting in half a cut up and taped together cardboard box which will be his hoard stand. Now I just need a lot of foam.

      • x 2
    17. @Crissaegrim Please share your dragon on his hoard when its done! Or in progress would be great too!

I have a Dream Valley Rosa. I do not need a bird girl. But those talon feet, and that face... Gah!

    18. I hope they don't hold back on it, like they did with all of the girls last year. For example, I liked Fawna's sleeping head design better.

    19. Oooh I like the bird girls feet! They remind me of my dragons hands which I also love.
My dragon has to do a squat to fit on the shelf, awaiting better weather for some painting ;)

      • x 1
    20. Late to comment, but also loving more jointed bird talons! Can't wait to see the paint options for this one!

    21. Well, the bird lady seems to have only a human face so I'm safe, but there's an event on legenddoll and new clover singing for in stock dolls and... Well, I've been wondering for months now if I should have gotten Cedar... And he's discounted... And should ship fast... So hello first doll order of the year :sweat

    22. I was looking at those sales for the Dawn/Aurora set and reminding myself that while I do really want the Dawn Griffin the version on legenddoll is white, I've never dyed a doll before and my willingness to do that to a $600 doll is going to be non-existent. Not to mention that while I did have space for a big, four legged doll, that space is now occupied.

I hope you enjoy your Cedar, he looks very cute and that's an amazing price for him. I definitely want one of that sort of doll at some point.

      • x 1
    23. In the end, no Cedar for me:(
It seems the limited availability ran out, so the seller cancelled my order. It's upsetting, but that's just (bad) luck

      • x 1
    24. @Crissaegrim if you just want Dawn the Griffin and not Aurora, Denver doll has them in stock in Coffee resin. Though its $850 with the tan resin. The Dawn/Aurora combo they have is white.

      @Tagath How disappointing!

    25. I've seen that, and it's very much on my list of things to get if I win the lottery. Unfortunately I'm not in the US and the shipping from the US to the UK, not to mention the hefty customs bill at the end means DenverDoll would have to discount it a whole heck of a lot for my wallet to be able to handle it. Thank you for mentioning it though.

    26. @Crissaegrim Since Dawn costs more than I'm comfortable spending on a doll so I totally get it! Expensive shipping is one of the worst things

      • x 1
    27. It's one of the weirder things my brain does. $1000 dollar doll with free shipping = 'I can justify that'. $850 dollar doll with $150 shipping = 'that's waaaay too much'

    28. The new bird ladies are live on BJDivas now, and Milien has been added to my cart immediately. They are probably my favorite Dream Valley release ever :D Those bird legs are stunning and just what I’ve wanted ever since Eagle Rah’s release years ago. I’m planning on dying her bird bits a gradient yellow, so she can be a sunny counterpart to my black and white crow Maurren who will be arriving soon.

      • x 2
    29. Ohhh I love both of these birds!! But I'm also... so conflicted about what to get lol.
I think I might order an Esther and just like, really overcomplicate my Maurren/Phoenix hybrid I was planning lol. I was going to put Phoenix's legs on Maurren and use the Phoenix body with human legs for an entirely different head... And I wasn't really sure what I was going to do with the Phoenix head. But I kind of like Esther's legs and head better for Maurren (I was a little sad they didnt give him the feathery ears too), so I might swap those over and then put the Phoenix legs and head on Esther's body. I'm not sure how well that leg swap will work though, because Esther's do seem to be a bit bigger... but worst case I just go with my original plan for the Phoenix/Maurren legs and still swap the heads around with the three of them (at least it would mean less restringing, and I'm not too worried about having to mod the neck areas a bit). As for Maurren's head... it's pretty standard human looking, so I'm sure I'll find a use for it eventually.
I do really love Milien's legs, but I'm not a huge fan of her face personally, and I probably shouldn't order both. And Esther's legs are more similar in style to Phoenix's anyway... I wish I could order just a spare set of the legs, but it doesn't look like there's an option for that. I'm not sure if they're even compatible with the other three-part bodies since the hip measurement is different, but I wonder if that's just due to the feathers/tail area. And I wonder why they did Esther's legs the way they did instead of making an option for the three part torso? Honestly in general I wish DV would release separate parts more often... there's been a couple past event heads in particular that I've wanted but just haven't been willing to buy the whole doll for.
I'm also still kicking myself for not ordering the moth girl a little while back; I was really banking on them releasing a four-armed boy as well. Maybe eventually lol.

      • x 1
    30. thanks for the tip! It's good to know he's already on second hand market. I can't allow myself this at the moment (even the very discounted in-stock one was a bad idea at the moment tbh) but I'll know to keep an eye open in the future

    31. oh no, Dollyteria also have the exact version of Dawn that I want for less than half what it is on DenverDoll.

    32. Hello all! Is there someone who has Lucia and tried to find a boy to match with her?
I haven't thought it would be such a problem with her 27cm of height and dolly-face. All 1/6 I've found are too high and with small heads...

My Ellinor who doesn't like the 30cm boy I've offered her

    33. Hi all asked this question on the Coral Reef thread initially but it’d probably been smarter of me to ask here as well so I’ve just copied and pasted my query. Isn’t hindsight great! Anyhoo, I have a grey ‘Lotus’ head that was purchased from another member and am trying to decide whether to get Coral Reef’s own body or hybridise with a Dream Valley one as they have some interesting models, does anyone have grey resins from both of those companies to see if it would work? I have a DZ grey doll which is slightly lighter than CR but similar tone only it’s not as slender as I’d like for my Necromancer idea. Thank you for any help. :)

    34. @Nelissya I also have a Dream Valley Lucia, but she's technically a mature tiny, not a mini. You should ask in the mature tiny thread for suggestions!

@Blodeuwedd I have a Dream Valley doll in grey, and the resin does have a blue undertone. I have no idea now it compares to Coral Reef resin, though, so that might not be helpful.

      • x 2
    35. Thanks @Leo Pheonix, that’s very helpful indeed because I was curious as to whether it was the blue/grey their own photos made it look. Lovely shade but not quite what I’m looking for in this case, shame as I do like their range of quirky body sculpts, maybe for something else in the future. :)

    36. Didn't know it exists, thanks for a clue! Griffin is 1/4 and I haven't thought about tiny thread for her

      Zewesh apologies for misthread

    37. They look so cozy, together.

      • x 1
    38. They perfectly fit one another :aheartbea At first I was going to take only Griffin, but when DV showed Lucia separately it was like "ok, hi, Ellinor (one of my oldest characters), long time no see, come home..."

And when they both arrived I couldn't separate them on different shelves as supposed.

    39. I just saw the twin birds, and I'm in love. Currently debating if I can afford both on layaway :sweat I just finished paying off the ghost moth, and right as my monthly debt is lifted, they release these...

      • x 2
    40. My Crow Boy arrived today! I'll take pics later, but I'm so over the moon with him! I got the fullset with the two-tone resin and body blushing, and he's beautiful! The shimmery iridescent gradient blushing on his crow parts is *stunning* in person, and he even has little earrings. :D My only nitpick is the interchangeable joints at his shoulders are a bit strange to pose and don't seem as sturdy.

Can't wait to see if the Phoenix legs will work with him whenever they get here.

(Also I started started the layaway for his girlfriend, Milien)

    42. Hello c: After several years out of the hobby for life reasons I've been able to pre-order one of the new twin birds, she'll be my first Dream Valley doll and I'm so excited!! Now begins the long wait and agonizing over what the perfect eyes/wig will be for her lmao. I'm super disappointed I missed their Ghost Moth girlie, she's incredibly cute and sewing for a four armed model would be a fun learning curve :XD:. Do the pre-order limited time dolls ever pop up for sale at shops after the pre-order period is done?

      • x 2
    43. Congrats on picking up one of the twin birds they are really beautiful. Denver Doll Emporium typically has a couple of the new releases show up instock. So keep an eye out on there when the Ghost Moths start showing up. There is also the possibility that Dream Valley will rerelease her in the future. Good luck I hope you get a chance to pick her up.

    44. The bird twins are making me feel pain :XD: I was too late to the BJD scene to scoop up Maurren, so I got excited when I first saw the previews of these gals, and I was really hoping one would be a boy. Imagine my disappointment when neither was (missed opportunity!). My perfect tengu character would be Maurren with Milien's legs. Not sure if I would want to risk getting both (assuming I can find a stock Maurren) and finding out if I can splice the parts together, but I'm definitely thinking about it... :sneaky

Ah well. Dream Valley might as well own my soul, so I'm reasonably sure the next monster lad they come out with will distract me from the pretty birdies!

    45. DDE just sent me the shipping notice for Maurren. In stock might start showing up soon.

      • x 4
    46. Well, would ya look at that? There's a bunch of Maurren stock! One less now, because of me ;)Thank you for pointing that out! I might not have checked anytime soon otherwise.

    47. Happy to have helped.

    48. Here's my newest boy with my other Dream Valley creatures, Olivia and Chaos. (I have three and a half other Dream Valley minis not pictured, hehe). I think Maurren's my new favorite~

And they look so good all 3 together~

    50. I loved my Maurren when I unboxed him, but now that I've re-oufited him with some new clothes and wig, I adore him even more. He's absolutely my most gorgeous boy. Pic doesn't give justice to his wing, but really there's enough of a purple shimmer that his hair goes really well with it.
      [IMG][IMG]

    51. Ahh I love this fit and that hair color on him! I've been debating a dark purple or blue for mine, but the contrasting light purple is really nice.

Speaking of... adding to the Maurren Crew, mine's a freaky little mostly-blank man right now, but I took my first swing at blushing his wings and tail (not that you can see the latter here). I think it came out reasonably similar to the official thing, enough to make me happy at least!

Not sure that I'll keep the red eyes, I've just been making TONS of eyes and these were more of a test fit than anything. Been thinking lavender might be the final color. It'd pop if I give him dark hair.

Now hopefully the image will work, it's the first time I'm attempting to post one

    52. His wings look amazing, I think you did a great job! I like the red eyes, and it makes me wonder how a red colored wig would look. My light purple wig was a complete surprise because it was the only spare I had in his size, but the moment I put him in it- perfection. I'll learn how to style it one day

      • x 2
    53. Thank you so much! I'm wondering the same now, but I don't have anything on me that's remotely close to red hair to test it out with. My blue bias will probably scare me away from the hot colors (for this guy anyway) in the end, but I don't have a super solid game plan so I can change my mind in a flash :XD:

Isn't it great when the most random things work out so well, though? I'm kind of hoping for my own flash of unexpected inspiration, both for this guy and for Ehecatl, who I just got a shipping notice for! I have ideas of what I'm going to do with my naga lad, but I'm keeping an open mind just in case my own Purple Wig Eureka Moment hits.

    54. Peeps who've gotten Maurren and Ehecatl, I'm curious to know... what do you think of the magnetic arms? How do they pose, are they easy to handle and remove? DV has been experimenting with modular parts for a while now (swappable strung lower bodies last year, now magnetic limbs), I'm quite curious to know how this magnetic system holds up over time. Would like to know your experiences, thank you!

      .
Doll tax... I hardly take solo pics of the anpiel (Achelous human), but I managed to do an outdoor shoot recently.

    55. I'm a bit curious about the mag parts, too.

I generally hate mag parts with the fiery passion of 10,000 suns. Braithwyn is on an FL65 body and that has mag arms and I hated that so much that I re-strung him normally without the mag part in his chest within 12 hours of receiving him. I'd gladly swap his body to something else (I very strongly dislike his mag hands and feet, too) but he's dyed to have vitiligo (which is gorgeous and why I bought him) so that's not a thing.

I love that blue resin the new 4-arm boy is available in. I think I'm safe from him as I already have a 4-arm boy (Bonelace Moonchild) and I'm leery of the mag arms. But he's still tempting. One of my friends is contemplating him so I might be able to live vicariously through them if they go for him.

      • x 3
    56. So far I'm really loving the magnetic arms (for both Maurren and Ehecatl)! They're the only thing that made it possible for me to get a shirt on Maurren when I'm using his wing-arms  They're also quite strong, enough that when I'm pulling them out, sometimes the magnet part will remain in place and it'll actually expose the stringing on the wing a little. They show no signs of falling out from normal handling, I have had to be very intentional about pulling them out.

I haven't tried to do a thorough comparison on the poseability, since I boxed Ehecatl back up (he's too big to be left sitting in my workspace) until I'm ready to work on him, and I only use the wings on Maurren, not normal arms. I took his arms out just now to try them and the range of articulation seems about the same as they are on Achelous. Like the wings, they are very secure. It's hard to imagine what you'd have to be doing for them to pop out without you actually trying to yoink them.

If there's some kind of specific pose y'all would like to see the arms in, let me know and I might be able to get a photo for you.

On a related note...goodness, that new butterfly boy has my whole heart. The blue-grey skintone is just dreamy. I spoke to a few dealers about the Tariff Situation and I feel a little reassured that if I cave, I might not end up living under an overpass, so I'm probably going to pick him up. I swear, DV has an employee whose sole job is to live in my head and make all the exact things I would want. It's not fair! :XD:

    57. I’m so jealous that your Ehecatyl has arrived already :XD: (I ordered through DDE at the end of the ordering period so I’m sure that’s part of why it’s taking longer :sweat tho they did say it should hopefully be sometime this month)— how is he in person?? I’ve been curious just how big he’ll be with that tail/wings!

Speaking of DDE, when I asked about the tariff situation I got a sort of lukewarm answer (which is to say, no one really knows anything yet, which I completely understand)— what dealers did you end up reaching out to?
Hopefully they’ll be a way to still get DV in the US without having to sell a kidney lol….

      • x 2
    58. That's really encouraging to hear about their mag arms @Rekka

DV has some sort of advanced mind reading device in their back room and they're using it daily. They frequently come out with all kinds of dolls that I swoon over. And utterly gorgeous resin colours (I'm terribly weak against coloured resin). I'm trying to be good but they're not making it easy.

      • x 2
    59. He's HUGE for a 1/4! And stunning, I'm so happy I decided to get him. He's the better part of my height (I'm around 5'3) when stretched out fully, with the feather tail tip on. That part can come off, but even without it, he's suuuper long. I thought Achelous (merman version) was pretty large, but he's significantly less noodly than Ehecatl.

I ordered mine from Alice's Collections pretty shortly after he launched, and since he's nude, I imagine that helped the turnaround time a little.

Hopefully that picture actually loads, not that it's a spectacular one. It's just difficult to find a place to pose him for a better one, especially since he doesn't really "stand up" on his own.

I spoke to both DolceLuceDolls and Alice's Collections. There's still a lot of uncertainty but they both talked with me about my options, including holding my dolls if things get even dicier than they are right now. Definitely recommend talking to either/both of them.

Isn't that the truth! I ended up nabbing Velarde, largely in part due to that lovely shade of tan. Most of my others have been plain white so far, but that blue... I'm so weak for blues anyway, it feels like a personal attack.
