Shopping Dream of Doll site?

Jul 31, 2016

    1. Sorry if this isn't the right spot, I was just curious as to what's up with Dream of Doll's website? I've found some sculpts I LOVE, but everything is simply labeled as "coming soon." I know they said they were going to be on vacation starting the 8th of August, but it's not that time yet. Are they just revamping everything? I'd message them, but our work computers are wonky and it won't let me send an email. (Otherwise I'd just ask them directly)

    2. Gotcha, thanks ^^

    3. You're welcome =^_^=

    4. Based on the most recent posts in the Discussion thread for DoI and DoT, I'd say that Dream of Doll isn't finished overhauling the website yet -- the people in that Discussion thread might have good information about how long that process has been underway.

    5. So their website is under construction? Is that so? Thanks for the info!! I want to visit their site but unfortunately, no luck...

    6. Guys, DOD site is not working anymore! What is happening!!!??? Someone please answer :(

    7. I noticed this as well! I looked at their page via the wayback machine and was able to see the old contact email address ([email protected]), so I sent an email to see if they get it or if they can provide any updates. The website is definitely down, though. :(

    8. Did you read this thread?

    9. oh my I hope they answer soon! Please update us pretty pretty please once they do. Thank you so much dear!

Hi, I did. They were supposed to just be revamping the site, right? The dolls have been marked "coming soon" since July but I panicked yesterday when the site is not working at all anymore. I'm not sure if they're still just really revamping :(

    10. Sooo... Did we ever figure out what happened because the site is like gone, down?

    11. I'm so worried too! I hope DOD's website come back soon >O<

    12. The D.O.D site is down and they won't answer any mail...it's been like this for more than a month and I wanted to choose some new clothes from them =(((( Did they really close down? =((

    13. I too, have been trying to contact them via e-mail but no one is replying. I wanted to order a doll from them. As far as I know they never announces their retirement. I hope its just a technical issue :(

    14. I do hope so as well

    15. I'm worried as well! they won't answer any mail I've sent them and the web site is down =((( updating the web site shouldn't take so long. :o:atremblin:(

    16. It's the same for me, tenmachan! I've also tried to email them, but I haven't gotten any response. :(

    17. RainbowsHaven :atremblin hope there will be news soon and they better be good :eusa_pray

    18. I also sent an email last Monday but... no answer! :...(
I have a DOC head without body so I'm a bit scared and angry too:| Because they didn't tell us anything. If you're going to close, please tell customer before it (like Leeke for example) :atremblin

    19. If they really have gone, the way in which they did was weird, almost cowardly. Not saying it outright but disguising it as a website refurbishment and gradually phasing the company out...

    20. Has anyone heard anything? The site is still down currently

    21. I have sent them another email today , wrote that all our bjd community is worried , hope that this one they will answer. Maybe if you send them mail as well and they'll see that we really want to know at least what happened, they will answer us.

    22. There's been nothing on my end. :( Lots of people have sent emails, but they don't seem to be responding.

    23. I don't know if this will help but I found this super old website that I presume may have been made by Dream of Doll back in 2002-2003 before they had their official website. It lists a phone number and address if by any chance it still works and if anyone is keen on calling them.

A bit of a warning before you click the website: If you get creeped out easily by scattered doll parts, you might not want to click on the link.

      Dream Of Doll

This one is their Naver Cafe (like a community group) but there hasn't been any posts since 2015. There's one from like yesterday but I think it's just a customer wondering where they've gone.

      ?帲???굹 (Dreamofdoll/ D.O.D) : ???̹? ī??

    24. Thank you HoushiChan =)

    25. I'm so sad about this situation T_T I love DoD and I have 4 sculpts from them...I wanted to buy more ;w;...I hope they back soon u_u

Btw, thank you HoushiChan for the information :)

    26. The dream of idol thread is currently thinking they may be gone :(

    27. Now I can't find DOD site searching as always (using google, you know) so I feel SO worried :(:...(

    28. It's really hard to believe they're gone, but it's pretty much a done deal at this point. I'm doing my dolly holiday shopping and so many places still list "MSD, DOD etc" on their sizes and item descriptions by default. But the truth is, it's not 2006 anymore. There's lots of reasons why a company like Dream of Doll did not survive current BJD trends, but it does bring to light how much of a fly-by-night operation so many of these doll companies are. A couple of years of poor sales (or less!) is all it takes to sink them.

    29. I'm sorry, but you make it sound like it's DoD's "fault" for not being able to keep up, when in reality many of their dolls were recasted. Yes, they probably had poor sales, but I think it's disingenuous to imply it was their own fault for not being trendy enough or something, when it reality they probably would be doing just fine if their dolls, in particular their popular ones like Ducan, hadn't been sold out beneath them. You are right though, that this DOES show how easily even the "big" companies can crumble when their dolls are constantly being stolen from them.

    30. The thing is even before the recasts existed of their company's dolls, the secondhand sales were always consistently selling low in exception for a handful of dolls which is actually why they were for a long time a huge starter collector company. There's also been little to no new releases compared to say several new companies like Withdoll has probably the same number of sculpts as Dream of Doll and has been around 1/4 as long as they have.

Also even with the recasts, the majority of their dolls don't have recasts of them. The company was not keeping up with the market well even in 2012 before there was really any recasts around (and none of Dream of Doll) and I've seen little to no interest to the company among my pretty decent sized group of collector friends, while fairyland (which btw remember is the most recasted company right now next to Volks) had such a high demand they couldn't even keep up with orders properly all of last year to the point they were having excessively high waits and quality issues across the board. For this reason alone, trying to blame Dream of Doll's lack of ability to keep up seems totally absurd when you see many other companies doing fine, if not better, due to the fear of the secondhand market.

In my opinion Dream of Doll's failure to release new sculpts to gather new interest and lack of limited doll releases, which give an urgency to make purchases, both greatly hurt the company. Also worth mentioning, even with both of these lacking Dream of Doll always historically had been notorious for long waits and also having little to no in stock of many clothing/shoe items as well. The latter of these personally caused me frustration on an order and is part of the reason I've never gotten anything new from their company. I also want to mention a few other things, the new MSDs were known for breaking issues on their hands in the wrist area and the bodies haven't really been updated since I joined the hobby. Even Volks has released several new bodies who has been a pretty unchanging company in terms of dolls to a degree.

The fact this thread doesn't have more comments then it does, also shows who Dream of Doll has really lost a lot of interest to the company over the last few years. :(

    31. Gosh, it's such a shame that this has happened to them. There really is a part of me that's hoping that they'll pop back and that they were just re-doing something. There was a MSD of theirs that I have been eyeing for literally years, but c'est la vie. It definitely sounds like they, as a company, had issues, but it's still incredibly sad that they most likely crumbled without warning.

    32. I've been watching this thread, and I feel the last couple comments seem the most realistic to what has happened. (This is just my view, and completely speculative.) I am not a doll artisan, but I do run a jewelry and art shop with my wife (the OP), and I can fully state that our business all depends on our outward enthusiasm to bringing in customers. We wouldn't even be on the map in our community if it weren't for our constant determination to make more creative items or cook up new ideas, events, limited time specials, and innovative products. I see a lot of the same trends through many of the BJD artist shops that plague mine and Pandora's personal community.

If you want to be seen and have products sell well, you have to keep up--or even ahead--of competitors. Some shops can do it, and some can't. Sometimes life gets in the way, or there aren't enough hands to help out, or motivation is dropped due to lack of sales... which snuffs out any company in any community alarmingly fast. It isn't just a matter of recasts, I don't think. Other artists sometimes tend to copy successful trends and products from our personal shop, but it hasn't hurt our business that much.

It is an utter shame that this has happened, and I can only hope the artists at Dream of Doll move on to bigger and better things, and are able to find success in other aspects of their lives.

    33. As sad as it is, I think this is pretty accurate as well. When I first started in the doll community (7 years ago), Dream of Doll felt so new and incredible to me! I was in awe of their sculpts, which were so unique and well done. However, now that I look back I realize that what I once thought make them unique sort of makes many of their sculpts look... Exactly the same. It's interesting really, but they all look like they could be from the same "family."

When I came back into the community to check in on all the new releases a couple years ago, I was disappointed to find that they had only released one additional doll--and when I came back again in the past few months and began purchasing again, they had zero new releases. There were no new sculpts and honestly, nothing had really changed at all from the last time I had seen them.

When you look at the other companies that are popular, even the ones that I enjoy now, I like them because they have events, because new dolls come out and there are lots of new and innovative sculpts. They have great engineering and unique styles! But sadly, DOD no longer met any of those criteria. There are definitely still people who enjoy the sculpts, but I think a lot of people just feel sort of nostalgic about them (I know I do.) :(

    34. I was looking around to see what new dolls were available, But when I went to the website and it says error or some other message. Does anyone know what happened to the Dream of Doll website? Because I finally saved enough for my doll. But I can't find him.

I just gotta know. Is there a new site or something?

    35. I would check out this thread under "Ordering and Shipping Questions".
      /threads/dream-of-doll-site.719850/

It's all just speculation but it seems they might be gone forever.

    36. Dream of Doll was my "first" site about bjd - few years ago I saw "Kirill" and "Ivan" doll photo somewhere, and they were linked to DoD. But at that time I cant spend so much money on doll, so, from time to time I visit their site. After few years I finally decide to buy doll from them, but few things made me change my mind and I purchase bjd from Impldoll.
      • They do not have European dealer;
      • Dolls were a little bit to "fantasy" - at that time I decide, that doll face must be "photo-realistic";
      • On they forum (and on other forums about bjd), people said, that DOD asked send them credit card photo with security code. Someone wrote, that he decline sending them "card data" and DOD return him money - so they lost customer.
      • Almost all outfits, that were on promo photos, were "limited", and at the same time they never have boots/clothes in stock;

    37. I couldn't find the site either. I went to look for some clothes for my boys and the site is just...gone. No "down for maintenance" message, no redirect site, just a 404 Error page. The scuttlebutt on some of the Facebook groups is that DoD is gone for good, though I can't confirm it.

    38. I just found out that DoD seems to be gone and read through this thread and wanted to know why. But even if I wasn't a big fan of them, because for me all of their dolls looked the same, especially in their last releases, but this is just my opninion, it's kind of sad to see them gone. My first BJD I ever saw on a picture was a DoD (Elf Ducan). It's very weird to see them vanishing. I always thought they had a lot of customers, especially the german fellows liked them very much (but as I said not me, so...). But I don't know where they were located, maybe a storm or anything like that hit them? Everything can be possible, but I think in this case we would've got any kind of information...

Maybe they will be back with a whole new site and a new collection someday? :)

    39. I choose to believe they're changing things up, and they may not know what they're doing next. They may not have their own website anymore, either. They do sell on another doll site here.

    40. I'm so sad :( I was hoping it was temporary...

I have 3 DODs, 2 who I love to death and my first one still remains as my favorite doll ever. The 3rd one is just a head (tender too) I will cherish it and give it life soon.

They introduced me to BJDs, I can't believe they're gone forever. :(

    41. Whoo! All of their dolls are still listed as "coming soon," but thanks for finding them!

    42. I hope this is true! Where did you get that link? I can log me in normally like before. Do you think they will answer if someone write in the Q&A? :/

    43. I found it from a Facebook friend from overseas. Someone on Facebook where I also posted said they were able to log in to their account successfully.

    44. Same! When I first discovered BDJs I fell in love with DOD sculpts, but couldn't afford them back them (I had a Too and Bee-a on my wishlist). Fast forward to early 2017: I decide to buy them…and find out their website is dead T_T

Anyway, it seems like the Q&A is still working so if you already have an account I'd say to give it a shot ;)

    45. They never answered the question I posted asking if they plan to sell dolls again back in June so... the odds probably aren't that good. *sigh* I hope they do come back. I'd love to get a Tender Yen again (I used to own one a while back too).

    46. I try to place a question on Q&A board but it doesn't work. So does the search tool.

I think this is just a copy of their website or something like that.

I wish I know someone or having any relatives in Korea, so that I could go to their address and check everything out :(

    47. @CrimsonDeath The search tool has been bad/limited from the start though.

    48. @Yumeiro : Oh I forgot about that, sorry ^^;

    49. EDIT:
I really hope they come back soon! I've heard a lot about DOLK, so I hope it is safe and legit.

    50. Yes, their Dream Of Doll website has been down for a few months now if I'm not mistaken. There was no information as to why that happened, but recently their website came back under a different domain, I'd need to look it up^^'. From what I heard, their domain is currently only accessable from Japan and Korea, but that's as much as my informations reach^^

    51. Thos should be the new domain: dodjapan.ocnk.net

    52. I nearly had a heart attack reading this thread! That Japanese storefront seems promising.. has anyone confirmed its official and active?

    53. I sent an email but they don't answer. Maybe the website is official but they aren't active. No information, news or anything to help us understand what's wrong with DOD.
And I don't feel very safe in case they let us buy and then disappear again with the money :atremblin:...(

    54. I also belong to the group of people who tried to contact DOD several times, asking them what's up, and got no reply whatsoever. Now, their dolls aren't available on DOLK anymore either and I can't access that new website posted by AnnoDomini too, it gives me an error message. So I guess this one is now down as well ? Seeing how so many other people have tried to contact them in the past, it's hard to believe that they just went under due to a lack of popularity.

This situation is truly frustrating since nobody seems to know what's been going on with DOD for months now - and they are not making a statement either. People are left in complete limbo, which is not OK. To be honest, I just want closure/confirmation if they are ever going to sell their dolls again or not at this point, so I can rearrange my wishlist accordingly. All of my heart does NOT want them to disappear, but I also don't want to pin after dolls without knowing if they are ever going to be accessible again.

One big question I am left with is though: If DOD really were going down due to financial reasons, why didn't they at least hold one last big off sale like DIM did ? It would have gotten them in some well-needed money, and people would have bought if they had known it was their last chance...

      • x 4
    55. That last bit about the sale is so true! I know something sudden probably happened for them, but how hard would it have been to post a notice that for one reason or another their site will not be returning? Just suddenly leaving their customers in the dark is definitely not a good move.

    56. What I find strange is that, for a while, they had a working website. If they had no interest in reprising their business, why was that site put online? And whichever the case of their disappearance may be, I think making a statement would have saved them from being flooded with messages and emails.
