Dream of Doll: DoT and DoI - Part 6

Nov 11, 2015

    1. Yeah, that situation has been percolating for a very long time. I'm surprised that woman has lasted this long. But as much as we loved DoD it's far more likely that they just went out of business without it having to be some major conspiracy. We've gone over on this thread all the missteps that they've made over the last few years and if you were watching the waiting room since 2014 it's been a graveyard with one doll I think being sold this year. If you take a look at Peaks Woods you'll see a company that has been around forever that reinvented themselves and their line-up a couple years ago in what looks a direct reaction to declining sales. Now they're doing great. When that was happening I thought that DoD's 'White Revolution' line was a step in the right direction but they didn't go far enough. There's a huge amount of competition in the doll market and a lot of pressure from the LE's that various companies put out and lots of auteur dollmakers that are basically one person and a casting company. If they had just been smart enough to offer different resin choices 4 or 5 years ago that would have made a difference.

      I've often dreamed of doing a historical research project on the bjd market that would entail interviewing people from the companies that have gone under. I'm sure there would be lots of great stories and of course have the tragic circumstances of financial troubles and market changes. Who knows, some people might have just thought, "To hell with dolls, I'm going into real estate!"

    2. Hmm surprisingly enough I have never heard of this news. My mom religiously follows news in that country since she still has family there. I'd have to ask her about it though..

      Also of a late reply here
      @dollhausen : Dayum you got me good with that pic. Lol! Even though I'm still dreaming I can still wish it.

    3. Argh, I have multiple DoD dolls, but I never got my Ducan...it's unfair, and I have only myself to blame. :( I will still hope they resurrect like a phoenix somehow. But for me, it became so awkward to order from them with the strangeness of getting payments to them and the amazing shipping prices, yipes! This is so sad. I adore their sculpts--my first doll was literally a Dream of Idol. :sweat

      .hlp

    4. Yeah, I'm certainly not thinking it's anything to do with a conspiracy - I doubt they were making enough recently to fund anything like that!
      The change from the 404/page not found to a 403 forbidden is definitely interesting, though! 403 afaik is only given when there is a page/files there that you aren't allowed to view, as opposed to the previous error where there wasn't anything to show. Might be just stupid hope, might actually be something there, we'll just have to wait and see what happens.

    5. Right?! Ahhh! I kept stupidly putting off my own purchase too and I feel so bad because even though I know in the long run it wouldn't have mattered, part of me still thinks "if only we HAD done those purchases, maybe we could have helped keep them alive longer!"

      Cause honestly guys I HIGHLY doubt it has anything to do with that Korean news. I mean they had the site "under construction" longer than that and I think even when they were still taking orders through e-mail, they probably were already thinking of closing and probably just took those last few orders to try to get some last minute money to cover costs. The more I think about it, the more I think they had no plans to actually come back. Because you're right, when the last time you saw any activity in the DOD waiting room even when they were still active? And when they did make new dolls, even I (and I STILL adore DOD's style the best) wasn't impressed with what they were putting out. It's sad (super sad like ahhh I know I keep saying it but I never get over saying goodbye to them) but also not surprising when you look at it.

      Though I still really wish they would have said SOMETHING. At least a goodbye instead of just...nothing. Even Angelheim finally did say something even after their site vanished. Granted they also had CURRENT orders when that happened while at least DOD was smart to wait til they had finished the ones they did have.

    6. I regret not getting all the dolls I wanted T_T It suuuuucks! But it's my fault... I knew this was going to happen when their sales looked like they were declining.. When they were still answering their Q&A I asked them if it was possible to send them money to turn into points so that I could save up for two dolls. But they didn't understand my question :(

    7. I absolutely love this boy <3 Since he came home he sits with me wherever I go XD

    8. I think the page errors we're seeing are from the stored pages leaving the ISP that hosted it. Now I'm seeing that google has cleared its cache. At first the tiered site information was still there but then it went to a couple pages and now the listing is completely gone. Bye bye DoD. You were my first.

      @Angela_Valentine Well, at least you have your boy!

    9. T_T So saaaaaad!

      @dollhausen I got lucky with this boy. I adopted him second hand because his mold is so hard to find T_T I couldn't let him go. I am so glad I got him because he makes me so happy. I didn't think I'd ever find one again.

    10. I'm sad but not surprised that DOD seems to be gone :( My DOT boy's where my first doll's they suffered through my trial and error face-up's. And god awful outfits I would make them wear while I was still learning to sew.

    11. I wasn't hoping for a new doll from the company. for the past few years, I had been hoping for more clothes, option parts, and care items. To be honest, I don't have an actual doll carrier for my boys despite it being being something I really wanted. No doll carrier with DOD stitched across it for me I guess. >.<

    12. Those doll cases I didn't know about them til a few years later. I saw one on eBay once but it was way beyond my budget at the time. I wish DOD would come back. It's not going to be the same with them gone too.

    13. I'm late to the party, but on the previous page you guys talked about the dolls' balance. I am continually surprised at what my DOT boy (new body) can do. I was doing a photo review for some items, and both he and his girlfriend barged in and made a mini-photostory.

      Anyways, so I took a pic of him next to a pillow, and he stood up on the bed without a base. Just a pillow that was also resting on him, in order to stay up. I even kept moving around the bed and he didn't flinch. o.0
      I wish my other dolls did that.

      if curious, the review/story is here:
      Arrived from space! 707 hugging pillow+plus?!

    14. Just hear about the things today. most of my pics colletions several years ago are from DOD!

    15. Those are the best carriers! I lucked out getting a couple of the mini sized ones back when they were pretty common on the MP. Since all the DoD kids came with one, it was actually the cheapest option when we were looking for carriers at the time. Surely someone's got one of those bags squirreled away, maybe a WTB will bring up something?

      I swear, one of the hardest things about being in this hobby forever is remembering how cheap/easy something was to get a couple of years back, and then when I look for it now it's super scarce, a million dollars, or both. *_* Still kicking myself for not buying more of that Kingstate furniture in Ross when I had the chance in 2005.

    16. Please...don't even mention kingstate...
      This hobby turns you into monsters. I was straight up stalking and constantly mailing that company in hopes they would magically make furniture again and sell online.

    17. Hahaaa, oh, those were the DAYS! I mean, what were the odds?: Perfect 1:3 and 1:4 doll furniture, randomly appearing at freakin' Ross, in the Garden/Housewares department, for $10? Things like that just don't happen! I grabbed 2 MSD armchairs and 2 SD sofas. I grabbed everything they had. How long was that happening, anyway? - Because once they were all gone from the 4th St. Ross, they was gone-gone (as is the way with Ross). I kept going back halfheartedly hoping it might be a regular thing they'd get in from time to time, but alas.

      The leopard chaise-longue is probably more for 1:4 dolls, but Severin doesn't care. Priorities.

      [IMG]

      I never got a DOD doll carrier, but they sure were good-looking. I have a ton of Iplehouse ones, because old Iplehouse dolls were shipped in carrier-bags instead of boxes, but they just weren't as elegant-looking as that chic DOD embroidery.... So I wanted one, but had no plausible reason to buy another bag (and find storage for it).

      • x 3
    18. I'm so jealous, I've never seen good doll furniture for sale. I just make use of some stuff for American Girl 18" style dolls, and some custom made stuff.

      Never had a carrier either. the dolls kind of just sit in a suitcase... with a blanket over them. the 1/4 scale ones are short enough to lay flat.

    19. It's insanity right? I just tried the website again. Crazy me.... I should work on working out my bjd storage issues. I have been downsizing in all hobbies and I have the goal to own just 3 dolls, two which are DODs. Each one deserves their own space/carrier instead of sharing 1 large bag with all their stuff. I cant even find pictures of DOD's carrier. I just have memories. It's bothering me more than ever.

    20. I wish I had bought more of the doll furniture from Ross way back when! I only grabbed a couch from them back in 07. But they had some really neat things! My goal for 2017 is to try and re-enter the doll world and spruce up my doll family, but I feel like it's harder now because the peak of the hobby has worn down a bit.

    21. DOD(้Ÿ“ๅ›ฝใƒ‰ใƒผใƒซ)ใฎๅฐ‚้–€ใ‚ตใ‚คใƒˆใงใ™ใ€‚

      Soooo does anyone know anything about this site? I was going through this thread to find the photo links and saw this again that SweetBean posted and uhhh....it almost looks like you could actually still order some of DOD's stuff here? :O I know its the Japanese seller for them but like they don't say anything about not being able to order anymore... But I'd be too scared to try placing an order without knowing. That and if they even would ship overseas (probably not). They do have a contact form so maybe worth a try? Unless someone did that already...

    22. I took a quick glance at some of their pages and couldn't find any notice on stopping sales either. It does seem like the only payment option available is via bank transfer, though. If that's the only way to pay them, then an international sale is most definitely out of the picture since we'll need a Japanese bank account.

      But they didn't specifically say that they're only selling domestically either. If no one has attempted to contact them yet, I could pop them an email to see if they respond.

    23. I sent a message as well, in Japanese, through the contact form. Asked if orders from the USA could be placed through the site. I don't want to bombard them, but I want them to know people still would like to order their dolls! (And the Japanese site has like fullset Petshas and Homme Ducans listed as available, and it totally allowed me to select them and choose options and add dolls to a cart to purchase. *grabbity grabbity*)

    24. Yes, omg I hope there's a way! Because I would so be willing to go through a proxy if it means getting my U-i because she's on the site too! The only thing I didn't see were the most recent ones and the newer clothing they had.

    25. I hope so, I hope so! :eusa_pray I saw she was on there and thought of you! And yeah, I'd totally be willing to go through a shopping service to get their dolls. Be like ordering from Volks in the old days. I would just save up and put in one big order via proxy rather than doing smaller orders.

    26. O_O OMG!!!!! Please please please share here if/when you get a response!!!!! I can't read the site at all sadly >_< never got very far in doing Japanese studies yet. Do they have the DOI dolls listed on there? Heck I'd do a proxy if they're really still around and simply couldn't afford their web domain.

    27. You can translate the site into English using something like Chrome or Google Translate, that's what I did. XD And it translated it pretty well. But yeah, I sadly don't know enough Japanese to write to them. I'd only be able to do it in English lol

      I don't want to get my hopes up too much though. Just cause it feels kinda odd that this would still exist when no one can even get word from the actual company. But maybe they have what's left of DOD's stock or something?

    28. On the Japanese site they have dolls that have not been offered to the English market in quite a while.

    29. I am really hoping this works.

    30. The code for that site is not secure so be careful what you do there.

    31. Well I'm certainly not doing anything until we get some sort of response back. Truthfully expecting to not hear anything but it doesn't hurt to try?

    32. I wouldn't hold out much hope there - I emailed through their web form on 30th October and still haven't had a reply :sigh

    33. Just as an FYI, I haven't heard anything back from the Japanese DOD site. Which is not surprising, really. I did get an automatic message confirmation, so the site's working, there's just nobody picking up on the other end. However, if you want to save pictures and such for your own reference, almost everything is there for now. No telling when it might vanish.

    34. Yeah I actually went there in hopes of them having photos of one of the outfits from DOD I was going to get so I could use it as reference in maybe trying to make something like it. And was just surprised to see one could still maybe order from there but I knew it was unlikely. But hey can't blame me for hoping right?

    35. I just got my DOD DOI Code no. 02 in tan (second hand) on Oct 11th, but i was so hoping to get DOT Ducan, too... i'll keep my fingers crossed they aren't gone forever.

    36. Almost the 25th for me so Merry Xmas and Happy Holidays DOD lovers!

    37. I checked with midnitestar7 and she's indicated the Japanese site looks open, but hasn't done anything there. This is what she found on the Dolk site (with a little Google translate coz she was in a hurry):

      ~~~
      ใ€Notice of suspension of orders from D.O.Dใ€‘
      With respect to D.O.D's products, due to the suspension of service by manufacturers in truth,
      As of May 17, 2016, acceptance of new orders at DOLKSTATION has been suspended.
      Regarding the timing of order resumption, we will announce you again on the news page as soon as it is decided.
      We appreciate your inconvenience but we appreciate your understanding and cooperation.
      ~~~

      (apologies if this was posted before, but search on DoA is crappy for me these days so I found nothing)

      So it's not 'they're gone' but more 'something's up', perhaps?

      .hlp

    38. It's been months with no news at all. If it was just 'something is up' I'd think we'd have heard about it. Hopefully I'm wrong, but really. If they are having problems with the site, there are ways they could have given notice that they are not closing.

    39. So DOD site has been dissapear?

      many regret that i didn't order outfit again. And i want Ducan head too because my Ducan have ever fall down to the ground until his nose cracked. DOD can sell just Ducan head but i did not take it :...(

      So this is my DOD Family (include DOC Leya)

    40. Welcome back to the doll world, Insane-Chan!

      I know what you mean; I took a break from the hobby for a couple of years and when I returned, it seemed kinda different. Some of my favorite companies retired a lot of the older sculpts I fell in love with. And, now, DOD is gone! I still can't believe it! I also feel like the peak has passed, but i could be wrong.

      Best of luck sprucing up your doll family! You have a DOD Carmine, so you are very lucky!

    41. I'm thinking DOD will come back in 2017 and be a big player. It wouldn't be the first time they revamp themselves. I hope the future site is brighter like it was in the past. The black and purple was nice but a bit depressing.

    42. I hope you are right, Gintsumi. I would love to see DOD come back! :eusa_pray

    43. I keep hoping they'll be back.... So many things I still wanted to get. I'd tried contacting a seller on the marketplace about a doll but they haven't been on the site for like 6 weeks now and 2 days before the message I sent them. :-(

    44. I'm also waiting to hear back from a seller on a DoC boy, but I just messaged them today. I wasn't going to get any new dolls, but with DoD bing mia for awhile now...I didn't want to let him slip by.

    45. I hope DOD will come.Do you have any contact information๏ผŸ

    46. still waiting for DOD...;u;
      [IMG]
      And a photo of my boys after i finally bought wigs for them.....
      I REALLY WANT MORE CALLA!!!!!!!!!!!TๅฃT

    47. Nice find. At least for pictures and references... But it does not change much about the situation.
      Although, it does re-instate some hope!

    48. What's with the weird web name though? It kinda looks like someone stole their website. like recasters, and are going to try and sell 'legit dod dolls'. I'm skeptical, but if it really is DoD that will be good.

    49. I'm very skeptical too. No announcement or anything to validate, be careful DOD lovers.

    50. i think this is the real website....... I can login to my account. If it is really a recastsr i dont think it can just get that much information.

    51. That's true if you can log in. I wonder if someone else bought their original web name. I know there are people who do that and then have it redirect to a different site. I'll keep my fingers crossed that they are coming back.

    52. Wow-- maybe the problem was something as simple as their domain expiring & they'd forgot to renew it in time. Our office is constantly doing stupid stuff like that, even though we're supposed to be professionals ("our security certificates are all expired AGAIN?").

      I carefully slipped Severin back into his Black Ducan default outfit for at least one more concert.... Oooh, is this pleather starting to go! ;; One of the belts was too sticky & decayed to put against his resin so I substituted one, & the pants have only a couple more wearings left. I'm so bummed! This iconic outfit, alas, is destined to go the way of all pleather.

      But Severin still struts around the stage in it like a boss. I'll put together a photoshow later. :D

    53. Would that make them unable to access their e-mail?

    54. Do we know if it's Unable or Unwilling?

    55. I'm happy, but with a healthy dose of skepticism here - there shouldn't be anything at all stopping them from reusing the original domain names as they appear to still be registered until April (.co.kr) and July (.com), and they both have a domain transfer ban on them so no-one but the original owner can have them.
      An announcement somewhere in any language would help here!

      If it is genuine, then Stom will be on order the moment they reopen :chomp:

    56. That's what we've been talking about. Link was already posted further up the page :)

    57. I am not going to get excited unless they make an announcement.. It just seems weird to me that nothing has changed.. I wouldn't even trust signing in until I know for sure.
