Dream of Doll: DoT and DoI - Part 7

@Aleksantaeri I can't wait to see how you style him! His faceup actually looks pretty good to me - there's a couple of spots but I think that's just the very bright lights reflecting - DOD were often very heavy on the gloss

Delphine has arrived safely and her only flaws are 1 chipped fingernail and her elastic is so old it's no longer stretchy, or rather it's just let itself go. Her legs hang a good couple inches below her hip joint, and her shoulders flop out I'll give her a quick scrub and restring her tonight. Her clothes and wig came with their original packaging so I don't think she's actually worn either of them!

(Her eyewells definitely need a bit of bevel sanding, her eyes are so far back )

 

@Shido She's really in a good shape. Lucky find!

About eyes, maybe you can try a pair of low dome narrow iris first. If that doesn't work out, then sanding is an option.

That’s a good point about the gloss on Camine though. Maybe I’m just jumping the gun and should wait to see what he looks like in person. I just feel like his lips are such a different shape than I’m used to his face having. Is that just me? Maybe the faceup artist was a different one then did the website pictures for him, but my brain says the center of his mouth should be more round/pouty. I thought maybe the bottom/edge of his lip color faded over the years or something. Is that just me being too picky? Haha

 

@Aleksantaeri Faceups aren't ever exactly the same - it looks like the angle his head's at is tilted up a little more vs the wig photo as well. I'm sure it'll all be good when he arrives - and if not, a faceup artist more than likely can blush his lip a little further down I've only ever edited faceups on my own dolls but it definitely is possible!

ETA: Here's a too-big for DOA photo of my Camine, so you can see the shape of his mouth a bit better? His lips are also only half-coloured so it's likely the artist's thing

 

Thank you!! This is super helpful. I actually really love that gradient effect on his lips so I hope mine will look like that!! Maybe the seller picture just isn't high enough resolution to see this detail. Ugh I need him here faster

 

I hope he hurries too! The seller photos aren't great - they obviously have a formula to stick to but a bit more detail would be nice

 

Just took some photos today of Noah, in honor of the new Camine coming home to @Aleksantaeri! I decided to put his default wig on, which he probably hasn’t worn in 17 years lol. His faceup has held up quite well, albeit has faded some, so it does need a refresher to bring some soft, warm colors back to his face.

 

@Aleksantaeri Welcome! Unfortunately no, I've left my E-an as she is. Ideally I'd get her faceup done but I think I'm going to leave her as a little time capsule to 2007!

 

He is so handsome. Is there a way to give his faceup a refresher without damaging the iconic DOD faceup?

That's totally understandable. It sounds really nerve wracking when there's so many things that could go wrong! I wish there was someone who specialized in fixing faceups but keeping their original style.

 

Carefully wipe the head of any dust or dirt layers. Regular water won't damage an existing faceup if the sealant is in place. This is an important step in welcoming any second hand doll anyways, and helps the doll look and feel more new and refreshed! You should be able to add any new paint, chalk, and blushing at this point, as long as you do it lightly and seal properly. New eyelashes should also be an easy exchange, as they do tend to deteriorate over the years.

I was thinking the same thing! I'm not sure where this seller gets their dolls from but that was a lot of DOD all in one place

 

@Shido, Delphine's eyes may have been set with too much eye putty. If the original owner replaced the eyes they may have used too much putty, hopefully that's the case. She is beautifully done and sanding the eye wells would probably mean the removal of her applied lashes.

Years ago I got Ducan full set (two toned wig and all.) I remember when I opened him up I couldn't believe how beautiful the resin was in both color tone and feel. At that time I had a few Volks, but I preferred Ducan's resin color. I was sad to see that color fade, but all resin tends to change over time.

I think they're more than likely from one collection considering they all have their boxes, original faceups etc. I hope whoever had them originally can be pleased they're going to adoring homes

@oriscany alas her eyes are set with only a tiny bit of putty as opposed to the clay monstrosity I've had before, and they're definitely only bevelled for much smaller eyes! Think 10/12mm instead of 14/16mm that she's meant to take I have a spare pair of silicone eyes in my box so she'll get them first. She's too pretty to damage her faceup!

I'm sad to see the bright pink fade too, even my brightest one is faded now. DOD! come back! I need a new milkshake pink, stat The grey has yellowed a little compared to the inside of her headcap but it's not a bad colour - not green or anything.

Considering DoD was heavy on the gloss, be careful not to get MSC on it. Gloss is always a last step! If MSC is sprayed on top, it’ll get gunky.

Dang, I was just looking at the wayback machine for DOD and looked at some of the clothing. But I don't recognize the left one. The right one as you said, there is no doubts. I aslo have the fullset of it.

 

I’ve definitely tried the way back machine, a lot. But I never have any luck actually seeing most of the outfits.

 

I can't find it in any of my image collections either - that doesn't mean it isn't a DOD, just that I haven't come across it!
It looks a similar size/fit to the other one so if it's not a DOD original it was certainly made for one.

 

The newer website design around 2015 had a few. Very nostalgic :3 but most are broken.

HE'S HERE! He's even prettier in person than in pictures!! but ohmigod I forgot how big these are!!! I can't believe this is DoT and DoIs are even larger. I'm really glad I got him for my first doll though, I don't think anything else would have been right for me. I actually love the og boy body more than I thought I would too. It's very graceful and feminine. He's so cute Now to give him hair and clothes and etc... There's so much to do with this hobby!! Exciting but my poor wallet haha

 

There's definitely some sueding on the joints. I can't tell if it's leather or what material this is though. Thank you for mentioning it! I never would have noticed it there otherwise. It sits really flush and seems well done in my unexpert opinion.

Heya! As some of you might have seen, I am starting to revamp my DoD Shall, and I want to start by buying her a nice outfit. My dress of choice was this one:



Which is a beautiful dress my Gem of Doll.

I have been looking at the measurements of the body to check if everything is okay, and here you have a measurement comparision:



The arm lenght (17 on Gem and 19 on DoD) and the arm circunference (6 on Gem and 8 on DoD) is what worries me the most. This outfit is beautiful but I do not want to expend a ton for an outfit that will not fit my doll... Specially because this will most likely be my only 1/3 doll. What do you guys think? Is this something to worry about or should I go ahead and buy the dress?

 

I think from the arm length, the shape of the sleeve is kind of forgiving also for longer arms. The circumference of the arms might be a problem, though, depending on where it's been measured from, as the forearm bits seem quite tight. I think it'd also be worth checking your Shall's neck circumference as the collar looks tight-fitting as well.

Did you measure your Shall yourself or grab company measurements? It might be worth making sure that the measurements are the same as there is usually a varying degree of error in the ones available online (especially with shoulders as it's often not specified if it's with arms included or not).

 

I don't have my Shall with me currently, I am planning on bringing her soon. So I am going fully by online measurements from two different sites (DoA and either official dealers or old pages). According to them Shall's neck should be a little bit more than half a cm bigger - not sure how much of a problem that could be. For now I can only go by online measurements, sadly.

 

If you truly love it, go ahead and buy it. You might look back in regret if you dont.

I will be slowly revamping my Shall, starting with dress and hairstyle (which will be done from her og wig). I also got her some new eyes.

Stopping by to introduce my new boy who just arrived this week. I was browsing YJ!A and came across a listing for a Homme Ducan, with a surprising lack of interest/bids, to the point I thought that he might not be legit. But he arrived (albeit somewhat haphazardly*) and aside from bad elastic and a much needed bath and basic TLC, he’s in great condition!



Put him in some eyes and wig to try out the colors, but still trying to figure out a style for him. I’m trying to stay away from dark colors, since my Camine and Shall both have dark hair, so I want him him to have a different look…but it is difficult since that black DOD eyeliner is such a killer look lol. Also still trying to decide on a name since he was not a planned purchase ^^;

Congrats! He is awesome! I use Dollzone68 and ringdoll RGM 4 body for DoI head and they fits very well. For DoT, myou is my favorite so far.

 

My word it has been a while since I hopped in the DOD thread. A whole new part started and I didn’t know it o_o

I’m getting back into the BJD world again now that real life has somewhat calmed down a bit, and now I’m super determined to find a body for my DOD event head from I think early 2015? Haven’t had much luck rounding up an actual Boy DOT body of late, or DOI, but does anyone know what the closest hybrid body cross is that I can do instead that will fit that head size? If the closest hybrid is even still being made too

 

It looks like your question was answered in the post above yours. Do you know what head you have? If you post a pic of it here, I'm sure that someone will be able to answer you.

Omg, my mind is so blown right now. I can’t believe I missed that before posting. I was actually hoping Ringdoll would be a good fit for it. I actually just discovered said company today and I’m like “I want this doll, and this one, and this one.”

I think I have a picture of the event head somewhere…. Let’s see… Well I can’t find a picture despite saving all the other DOD pics before they shut down… but the email correspondence from Dream of Doll back then regarding it lists it as Dream Head 16.

 

Well, @Shido is the resident Dream of Doll archivist, if you can find the head or a pic, that would be pretty helpful. Ngl, I'd love to see that DoD head!

@WinterSong Echoing dds27, Ringdoll's bodies do work pretty well - I have RGMbody-3, 4 and 5 if you'd like me to check them? The colour match is a bit hit and miss, I've had *cough* a few in the past couple of years and each one is a different pink to yellow-pink shade I will say I'm jealous of your DH16 and I'd love to see him!

@Shido I would absolutely love that honestly. But only when you’re better!!!! Definitely leaning towards doing a Ringdoll hybrid for the head. Those seem to be the closest appearance to the old DOT 2 body that I never bought in time and wanted sooooo so badly. At least I was with it enough when the event happened to actually get extra eyes either for Calla or for the head.

He’s packed away at the moment since we’re moving soon so I don’t even remember if he’d came with some eyes set already or not. Looks like I’ll be debating which wig to use once I get around to deciding on a body.

Here's DH3, DH12 and Elf Code 02 modelling the latest in Ringdoll body fashions:

Their necks would need modding - they're a bit long for my liking, and two of the styles have flat tops.
"But Shido!" I hear you cry, "Their heads look weirdly small on these excessively buff bodies!"
I agree: but I have to simply laugh off your argument with the fact the Ringdoll Heads Are Smaller.

Here's a comparison with a DOT Type 2 body as well, Kious helping out here, and as I was getting everyone out ANYWAY: DOT V1, v1.5, V2 and DOI bodies. Can we tell I couldn't find the box with all of my spare doll underwear in? I wasn't feeling up to totally shaming the poor DOD boy's lack of downstairs filler today

 

@Shido Yay!!! Glad you survived! Wow, thanks for the comparison pics. I still wish DOT V2 or DOI would pop up as I still prefer them the most, but it looks like RGM-3 or RGM-5 will be the alternate choice. Do you have a side-by-side of DOT V2 or DOI with either of them?

 

@WinterSong Not the greatest photos (again) but here you go! The DOT v2 looks so short DOD bodies do sometimes pop up on their own but they are pretty rare

 

@Shido, did you end up modifying the Ringdoll necks? They all look shorter in a couple of the pics.

Oh wow, I think they look great, better than I expected. The RGM 4 and 5 do look a bit swan-necked, but the RGM 3 looks pretty good.

I’m still alive I promise! Somehow >_> Just three years of continuous carbon monoxide exposure…. (Plumber found out our gas water heater that was put in two days before we closed on the house… was venting into the attic with not external venting

Plus, we had been going to move. That got canceled obviously.

Ahem, anyways, THANK YOU @Shido !!!! Those pictures help so much! I’m definitely thinking RGM-3 is going to be my go-to for a hybrid cross for the Dream Head. Once I see how much the tariffs are going to take my wallet for from my initial Ringdoll order…. Did find out they at least will change shipping address after the order has been placed.

Now I have another question, does anyone have any comparisons of Shall vs E-an???? I found a Shall for sale, and yet the face-up is totally throwing me off because to me the structure and everything looks identical to E-an or I’m just remembering my own doll wrong that I can’t check because she’s in her box in a bin at the moment.

 

If it’s the listing on DT, then that’s 100% a Shall.
