If it’s actual mohair, human hair conditioner works well I actually have some leave in hair conditioner I use on all my alpaca/mohair wigs and it does wonders for flyaways. It’s by Aussie, called ‘Hair Insurance’ and comes in a purple spray bottle

@Ryuichi Sakuma 13 @Sephora Good shout, should work since it's actual organic hair! I will check what I have in my stash. My own hair is curly and pretty dry, so all my leave-ins tend to be quite heavy!

@Morri_P. I use Trevor Sorbie anti-frizz spray on both my own hair and wigs, so that might help too?

Customs finally released my new boy (£123 fee, yikes!), so here's Vanya

He's on a creamy white Soom body and the match is surprisingly good, for anyone who might have a WS DOD to body He's got the tiniest cleft in his chin which is kind of adorable I think he'll be keeping the greeny eye colour... any suggestions on his hair colour? I'm a bit stumped personally

 

No idea about the hair colour, just wanted to say he's gorgeous

 

Wow! Some spoiled dollies, that's a pro brand I never tried it, but might give it a go, I am always on the market for anti-frizz stuff.

He is GORGEOUS! Where did he come from for the customs to be that extortionate?

I'd say black with white streaks, a nod to classic horrors? Silly human wig to illustrate my idea:

 

@Morri_P. I'll be honest, I tend to only buy it on 3 for 2 in trial size when I need it, it works out a bit cheaper that way and it only needs a tiny bit on synthetic wigs at least
He came over from America! Full price declaration and "premium" shipping so he got hit hard... I just wish they'd work a bit faster I hate waiting when a parcel's sitting doing nothing. (Feeling frustrated with them today, my Calla's been "arrived at Heathrow" for nearly a week now.)

I'll give a streaked wig a try, he's currently wearing a borrowed white wig that keeps falling off because those ears are in the way

You could actually turn him into someone similar to that pic, IMVHO. I don't remember offhand if anyone actually had the guts to make a "corny vampire" before on DoA, tbh.

Oof on the taxes, that had to hurt. But you have a stunningly gorgeous boy to show for it, so that's something!

Anyways, congrats to your new arrival, @Shido! He's a real looker! And bravo, great idea on the body choice too! Now I want to find and then turn some kind of vampire doll into a corny vampire.

Ooh, shiny new thread! For anyone who is looking for it: Dream of Doll Archive Dropbox! [eta: added it to the Wiki now, too]

I've started on some clothes for him and a wig cap, so even if he doesn't stay corny vampire he's getting the look for a while at least I was set a challenge for 2021 to get a group photo of all my dolls all done up so he can be immortalized in that

 

Aaahhh my Camine arrived home from Ticuk yesterday with his amazing new face up. It was going a bit dark but I managed to get a picture of him. His name is Henry.



I am already in love! He has such an expressive face. I can't wait to take more pictures of him. Also he is my biggest doll so I need to make more clothes that will fit him well.

(Btw I am silently stalking this thread and loving all your pics. I'm really late to the party with my sudden love for Dream of Doll boys, so I'm glad there are still others about enjoying these dolls)

Is anyone still on the hunt for DOD dolls? I'm sad they're so rare now! I'd love to own more DOTs, but it's looking like a longshot.

 

@Insane-Chan I definitely am actively hunting ️ I have a super-long wishlist, and basically always have done. Difference is I have more disposable income than I did when I first joined the hobby - if they were still around I'd be a permanent fixture in the WR

Now for me to ask a question for a change, my 2021 goal is to get basically all of my dolls "finished" (wigged, clothed etc). Should I just post in the gallery or do I start a project journal for progress? I'm planning on doing most of the work myself rather than buying everything, got 6 wig caps and a pile of half-finished clothes on my workbench already

 

Whatever you decide, I shall follow and cheer for you!

I guess it depends...but if you're doing everything from scratch, I think it's nice to have some before and after progress shots so you can see how your dolls came to life bit by bit!

 

So yesterday my irl bestie @Yushimi was over, and she brought her newly acquired Lahoo (plus one of her Sha's)! I think it was my first time seeing a Lahoo in-person. So we sat my Camine with them like a happy DOT family I just love seeing all these handsome boys together

So... Despite Boihead not having a body yet, I ordered him a wig and am currently looking for eyes.
What eye size do you guys use for your DoT boys?

 

@Morri_P. I use the default size - 16mm. 18mm always looks too big for their narrow heads.

 

Sounds about right. Tohma is a DoI Luke, and he wears 16mm eyes. I can't imagine him with 18mm eyes, it would look weird to me if they were any larger.

@Morri_P. I actually use 14mm in basically all of my big dolls Kalix has 18mm with a custom small iris otherwise he has gapping, but he's the only one who does.

I sadly don´t have updated pictures of my two DOD girls haha. My E-an needs a serious makeover than what she started out with 11 years ago. I no longer like having very dark gothic girl dolls. and that faceup I did years ago is so awful

 

@Miko_Chan Thanks for sharing your girl! That faceup look was definitely very much in style back then! Your E-an still manages to look very sweet with it though~~

Ooh another E-an! I think she will forever be my favorite sculpt from DoD. (I'm definitely biased, lol.) I had always meant to buy one (or I-ra) to match my Tender E-an so they could be sisters, but alas.

For now I find myself having a bit of a dilemma. My girl is from 2006; her faceup is in good condition but it's chipped on her cheek and her eyelashes desperately need replacing. I have zero crafty skill whatsoever, so I'm considering sending her out to be painted so she can be updated, but at the same time I really don't want to lose the DoD faceup since it's kind of a relic now, you know? Are faceup "touch ups" a thing?

I did buy her a new wig. I couldn't get the red one to behave, even with detergent. So once she's not bald I will (finally) post a pic of her here. (She is the one in my icon, though.)

 

@ryuunohime E-an has such a unique face, and I still remember the anticipation for I-ra when DOD had only released the teaser pics with the mask on her face lol.

Faceup touch ups are definitely a thing! Honestly I've been meaning to get my Camine's default faceup completely redone for years now...I think if there's things you'd like upgraded, a fresh faceup really brings out a lot in a doll. But a touch up is possible too! Blushing is always one of the things that gets chipped on a faceup, so I think plenty of people need to fix that every once in a while.

Mandarake added one who needs a little cleaning and re-stringing, and I was able to get her! Honestly it looks like she only really just needs a quick bath and new string...but yet they listed her as "JUNK" quality. Poor thing...but I can't believe after all of these years I'm bringing a Shall home!

@micchix honestly with Mandarake, and specifically DOD dolls, there is naturally very inconsistent wording with the listings. They don't always get the entire doll information from the original seller, and just do the best they can from what they have. The few other listings for DOD dolls in the past kind of had an array of titles as well. They also don't always put them in the correct category...but it's all just the nature of the business

@ryuunohime it is! Alas though, I'm going to be re-doing it ^^;; her faceup and face seem to have a number of dirt spots and possible paint scratches...it's hard to tell from the photos, but I expect she'll need a full bath, head included. Anyways, sadly the default faceup doesn't suit my plans for her anyways, but I'm going be making her as beautiful as I can with a new blush pink faceup.

@micchix The truth is, I put in my order without even looking at her price. I was so excited, I smashed Add To Cart after just a second of opening her page. Then I went back and saw the actual price and was like because honestly I was prepared to pay twice that much, or more.

Six, so far... Tender Lahoo, Camine, Shall, DH1, Tender Bee-A and an E-an.

One day I will look at my collection and go "yeah, I'm done, no more" but today is not that day The first week of the year was barely out and I had a layaway set up (that gorgeous Dark Tahlia that's been hanging round the MP), more to let the post calm down after the holidays so she can arrive here safely!
She's definitely @Morri_P.'s fault, I had Tahlia on my "maybe one day" list but her girl bumped her up to "why don't you already have one??"

 

@Shido dang! You truly are the queen of the DOD lol. I'm just curious, but is there a certain other company's body you plan to use/have used for your DOD floating heads in the past? I'm mostly curious about DOT, since they had the most odd ball measurements of the bunch. My friend has a floating Lahoo head that she's currently saving from some bad mod work by a previous owner, but it's pretty rare to see floating DOT bodies around.

 

@Insane-Chan I have to be honest, my ultimate goal is all of them... Pretty unlikely, I know! There's a few on my list labelled as "I know of one of these in the whole world" and "I have literally never seen one" including my absolute grail Stom

RE: bodies: I haven't actually given a huge amount of thought to it recently - most of the bodies/companies I had bookmarked are discontinued as well. I have most of them displayed on ink bottles right now getting the sculpts is slightly higher priority than bodying everyone when so many of them can share. When I have too many heads to do a full swap, that's when I'll worry.

But for reference, I had: Custom House (SD girl, boy), Musedoll (SD girl, boy), Luts (Junior Delf boy), and possibles in Angell-studio, Dikadoll and Myoudoll as they offer a pink, creamy or WS option that can be dyed. I know already Dikadoll's hands aren't a bad match, and they go creamy yellow as well which is good for older heads... but the bodies aren't particularly pretty Part of why I love DOD so much is because their bodies weren't all waify!
