Dream of Doll: DoT and DoI - Part 7

Dec 6, 2020

    1. Sorry, @dds27, I can't help you with your request, but I can congratulate you on your DoI Elf The B acquisition! :XD:

    2. Thank you so much! I love him a bunch

    3. Hey there! I haven't been to Den of Angels in a very, very long time, and came to surf the thread for my favorite (and defunct) company. I saw your Tohma and have to say he's so cool!! Absolutely rad; he was my favorite character in Gravitation anime (iirc there was a manga I didn't read). I may have seen your boy before, but regardless, it was nice surfing the old posts and seeing him today.

Looks like this thread hasn't been posted in for a year either lol. Yesterday and today I have been dusting off my dolls, and (sadly) getting them ready to be packed away for a long awhile. I'm doing some major cleaning of my all-too-small apartment, and many things need to get boxed up so that I have room to sort and reorganize. It's possible I won't see them again for a few years if I decide to wait until I can afford to move away before unpacking them again.

Thinking of how rare they are makes me want to do one more photoshoot (the first in 6 years honestly) but that would mean redressing them lol. They had on random clothes though; I'd want to put them in their default clothes for a shoot anyways. All three were secondhand, but way back then, I was happy to find all three of them. First came Lahoo, soon after was Shall, and then finally the missing member Camine arrived. Camine's pleather straps were already flaking so I never used them, but other than that their fullset outfits have held up.

I really don't have time to fool around with them and the camera though... if I find some older photos I took of those three, I'd like to share a few here, just to celebrate them before they hibernate.

It amazes me to see how DOD still get a lot of love, and that a few were even found for sale out there in the wild. I hope anyone still hunting finds what they're looking for.

    4. So the dolls have been packed up, but along the way I found a really old booklet! Must have been from 2006, when the original owner bought the fullset Shall. It was in an embossed pink envelope, and about 7 inches tall. It has a fancy tissue coversheet with shiny text. (tbh I had completely forgotten these three characters had tan versions lol.) I decided to share most of the pages in a Flickr album: Dream of Doll

I'm glad I found this booklet! I have one of the square ones they threw in with a lot of orders too, but this one features my favorite trio and feels more like a fancy gallery in style. Plus, I don't recall the image of (not tan) Camine on the top-left of the page. Feels like a rare find! xD

      • x 9
    5. I had no idea there was a tan Shall!
      She's so cute:D

Thank you for sharing the booklet with us @Lehst !!

      • x 1
    6. oh! Have the images of the tan versions been lost to time? I did not realize... I must have forgotten they weren't even on the website back when I was actively buying the dolls. Well I'm glad you enjoyed looking at my snapshots lol. They sure are interesting. Honestly I've never actually seen anyone own one; it must have been such a small run and during DOD's early days.

Well, I found a few old photos of my dolls. I was going to upload two here, but I'm not sure if embedding them is working, so I'll just leave another album link for anyone interested: share (that's just the album's name lol.) Wow from these images alone it looks like Shall and Camine are an item! But in reality she hangs out with them both. I think Camine was new at the time so she was excited to see him. x'D Goodnight my dear dolls, may you rest well in your boxes until we meet again. <3

    7. I'll always have a soft spot in my heart for DOD and your dolls are sooo gorgeous. :aheartbea Thank you for reviving this thread!

    8. @ElectricMauve aww! thank you so much for the compliment! DOD had wonderful style, and while my bf and I didn't want to own more bjd, we still really loved several of their other sculpts and admired the photography. I was a tad worried about posting in an old thread, but this is the DOA's official place for the topic after all. It also made me happy to see that fellow fans of these dolls still surfed in to see my wordy posts lol. It was really fun for me to skim the old news too. Our love for DOD will surely live on. (^_^)/

    9. @Lehst

I was constantly on the DOD site back in the day too but the only tan dolls I remember seeing were boys like tan Ducan and I think Camine.
Tan Shall must have been before my time since I love Shall but totally have no memory of a tan one. Now that I know she exists I have to go hunt for more pictures of her...

Thank you for posting your dolls! :chibi
Even though the thread is old and not so active we love seeing the dolls here so I'm sure it was a very welcome surprise for everyone:whee:
Excited to see more of them when you're able to pull them out again!

    10. Oh, well spotted! That is a photo of Camine I've definitely never seen before - a lot of similar ones but definitely not that one :D

I hadn't forgotten there were tan ones myself (I'd desperately love to own one but alas they are rare) and iirc there was a tan Shall owner in the database here.

    11. I'm absolutely dying over here. There's 3 dods up for auction on the 18th but I don't do auctions, especially by estate sales/auction houses. There's what appears to a tan Code 2 (but they have him listed as a dark ducan:sigh), I think a Shall? in colonial getup (her sculpt isnt listed:sweat), and an Elf Ira:chibi! The Code is gorgeous, i love the way hes styled too:...(

    12. Is there any archive site that kept pictures of all the outfits DOD sold? I remember them being amazing.

      • x 1
    13. Oooh is it an in person thing or via website? I'm totally curious and would love to see, even though I can't buy them lol

      • x 1
    14. @Mirth I'm considering bidding on the Ira, simply because I've never seen another one and probably never will again. I've never bid at an estate auction, though, and this would have to be absentee. Is there a reason I shouldn't?

      • x 1
    15. No, no, there's no reason not to! I just don't like them (auctions, not this specific company) personally due to experiences in other hobbies:sweat, just make sure to have them wrap anything you win very very well and prod to see if they have accompanying documents/boxes that they might not have realized go with your item :)
it's in person but they have a catalog online and absentee bids, it's by Sunflower Auction!

      • x 1
    16. There's a Black Elf Sha too! He's a big tan guy

Regarding the auction, I had an actual heart palpitation when I saw the Black Ducan listing and then was crushed when it was a Code 11, but he is definitely still handsome!

      • x 3
    17. Ahh, damn, he is a Code 11! I may have to have a shot at him myself if they'll accept overseas bids.

@Mariemisu - no website, but the DOD Dropbox has all of the clothing images I've found/been sent!

      • x 2
    18. You are doing Lord Black Elf Ducan's work. Thank you so much for this goldmine.

    19. Thank you! That was so cool to look through. So many amazing dolls, BJD and others! I actually recognized some of them from their owner having posted pictures on DoA.
There are some I would absolutely love to have, but I'll have to watch from the sidelines and hope whoever gets these lovelies shares them online somewhere.

      • x 1
    20. Holy moly, thank you so much!

    21. @Mariemisu
I can also suggest DolkJP. They don't have everything archived, but some (It's at least a bit easier to view)

    22. @Mirth
Took a look, any mention of DODs for sale/auction how can I not! And I think that’s actually a Code No 11. Here’s a side by side of the auction pic next my Code No 11. Still a sweet find and/buy for someone. Any of the Codes are hard to come by!

    23. @gwenithcoy Ooh, that's super helpful! I did spend way too long comparing No.7 and No.11 to be sure - it's all in the mouth as far as I can tell! :XD:

I did email and they will accept an overseas bid, so I'm working out what's left in my budget for the year :frownyblush:

      • x 1
    24. Got the confirmation email, Code 11 is mine :frownyblush: I have definitely blown the dolly budget for the year!

    25. @Shido Congrats! :) Hope you’ll post some pics here once he makes his way to you.

    26. Did you ever get your Code11?

      Ryu

    27. I did! He took over a month just sitting in customs here so he only arrived earlier this month and I had Covid when he arrived  I’m planning on getting him some photos done this weekend, hehe :sneaky

      • x 9
    28. @Shido - that’s wonderful news! I hope you’re happy with him :)

    29. YAY! I can't wait to see pics of him! I hope you're feeling better by now. :thumbup

      Ryu

    30. I am so exhausted it's actually ridiculous :...(

His wig needs styling, he needs purple eyes and new clothes but finally as promised: Brion!

      • x 14
    31. @Shido - Brion is handsome and wonderful! Now go relax and get some rest, yo! Sounds like you’ve been busy. :kitty1

    32. What a handsome man! I'm a getting Jon Snow from Game of Thrones vibe. :3nodding:

Now go take a rest, getting COVID is no fun, and I hear that recovery can really sap your strength.

    33. Hi guys, I have a question. I just got my first dream of doll female, DoT Shall. She has a bit of an issue in which her head moves a lot (wobbling). Is this normal? My DoI and DoT males don't have that problem.

    34. My Tender E-an definitely doesn't have that problem. Did you check in her head to make sure her s-hook is secure, etc.?

    35. Completely normal. She came unstrung and no string. Maybe the elastic I use? I will buy a thicker elastic and see if she still have that problem but for a moment I use hotglue to fix.

    36. I haven't noticed that on any of my DOT girls - but it's definitely an issue on the DOC so I wouldn't be surprised if it does happen on the bigger ones too! Do you know how old she is? Her faceup's in beautiful condition :D

    37. Yes, her face up is in a very good condition, I'm lucky. However, I don't know the age, but I know she has an old body type. Thinking of it, you're right, my Yen had the same problem too but since I changed his body to guard love's, I completely forgot ^^ Thank you!

    38. Hello all! I'm so thrilled to learn that there are others just as obsessed with Dream of Doll as I am. I don't have any other friends in the hobby so I've never had anyone else to talk to about my love of their designs! I'm new to DoA and chasing after getting my own DoD eventually! I remember as a teen really wanting this sculpt specifically but not being sure which one he is. (Thank you so much for your work on the Dropbox so I could find his picture again!!) I've not owned any dolls yet despite longing for one since 2009... And now that I finally have adult money and can justify finally buying a bjd, my dumb brain has declared that I'm not allowed to want any other doll until I have him (which, judging by this thread, will likely be a long wait and challenge!) Though, so many of the DoD boy heads look similar to me and I'm having a hard time figuring out his exact sculpt. Does anyone know how to tell which head is which? I'm thinking this is probably Camine or Sha but I could be totally wrong. Heads look so different with different eyes and wigs *_*

    39. I am absolutly speechless atm. Waiting on a beautiful I-ra!!!! after 15years+ she is finally coming :...(

Original box, faceup, high heels, extra hands, eyes and her beautiful mask.

      • x 6
    40. I am so excited for you!! 15 years is about how long I've been wanting a DoD as well. I can't imagine how over the moon you must be about it. Can't wait to see pics when she arrives!

    41. Thank you so much! Yes she has been very unobtainable for me, for a very long time. Very rare second hand in decent condition and a decent price. There is one on ebay atm, but be prepared to pay over 2kUSD :')

I do have two other DOD's :) One is a Petsha Elf and the other an E-an (I-ra's sculpt without elf ears) I wish you luck on getting one!

    42. I saw that 2k one! There was also a 1k girl last week I think. I am so hesitant about ebay since I've seen fakes on there. But just out of curiosity..... Do DoD usually run about 1-2k now days? Or is that just for the super rare ones? Trying to brace myself for what kind of cash I'll need to drop eventually :sweat

    43. It really depends on where you find them. I have no status about the marketplace on this forum what prices they go for. But ebay is ridiculous! People also sell on other social media and it is a matter of first come serve and good luck!
I don't use social media or other popular places, so I have even more limited options:sweat But yes you probably should be prepared for 600-900 usd. I think DOD is becoming more popular again?

Also do yourself a favor not to fall in love with Black elf Ducan like me xD Only two worldwide made I think. Or black elf luke, my gosh *3*

    44. Okay 600-900 is more reasonable. I feel like it was around 500 back in the day, so with inflation that's actually not bad.

I've made my peace with those. They are gorgeous but I'm not counting on any of the limited ones lol! I do love the elf ears though. I'll have to see if there's any ways to custom make some add on elf ears or something like that.

    45. I think this is Camine based on the shape of his eyes and position of his eyelid crease. Sha’s eyelid crease is lower and closer to his upper lash line. For me I differentiate between Lahoo, Sha and Camine based on their eyes.

      • x 2
    46. That's great to know, thank you!
Also wish me luck, @Miko_Chan has linked me to a Camine for sale... So I might get my dream boy way sooner than I expected!! I'm just waiting for the seller to reply to me :eusa_pray

      • x 3
    47. @Aleksantaeri that is a DOT Camine <3 I'm admittedly biased, but Camine was my first doll and still my favorite/grail! Also, welcome to the thread! It is always so nice to hear about how many people still love and appreciate DOD.

      @Miko_Chan congratulations!!

      • x 3
    48. @Aleksantaeri Hello and welcome to this thread ! =D It's so great to see other DoD lovers :whee:
Congratulation to find your Camine ! =D
I totally understand your feeling because I discovered the world of BJD thanks to DOT Camine and this beautiful boy became ma grail doll. I finally can find him last year and some years before, I found a gorgeous Tender Lahoo head. :3nodding: Patience is the most important quality in our hobby, but it's really reward when we can find our grail doll ! =D

      • x 3
    49. In the Western market, the price depends entirely on which sculpt it is, plus the condition and faceup. I'd say the cost has evened out recently to a normal 500-700 range, but even finding one for sale is hard these days. I see a lot of doll sales happening on Instagram and discord these days, where dolls go quick.

That being said, the Japanese market tends to have cheaper prices. I bought my DOT Shall from mandarake for under $200, and she was in near perfect condition. You just have to use a lot of different search terms to find them on Japanese sites, because their naming conventions are all over the place with BJDs.

      • x 1
    50. @Aleksantaeri I believe he is Camine, need confirmation from others but definitely not a Sha, the side profile doesn't match

You can compare it with this picture
      [IMG]

      • x 2
    51. @Aleksantaeri - I reckon that's definitely Camine! I had to double take myself because a lot of the other wig photos are of Lahoo  Sha and Camine are super similar in photos - less so in person. Good luck with getting him!
Price-wise the market is all over the place :sweat I'll not shame myself with the upper number but sometimes the rarer ones are pretty reasonable and the more common sculpts are more expensive, it just depends on the seller.

      @Miko_Chan Congrats - if that's the one I saw she's a beauty! (I nabbed a couple girls from them too ;) )

I'm still working on my collection (+big projects) so I'm not around as much as I'd like to be :sorry

      • x 2
    52. Definitely a Camine. The wig was released before Sha was xD (even though Sha is just boy-Shall, you can definitely tell Shall and Camine apart)

      • x 2
    53. Thank you all for the help identifying him!! I just hope I can bring him home now~ I'll need to find him some clothes that fit if so.

Do you guys ever see DOD clothing pop up in secondhand sales or are they usually only bundled with a doll? I imagine it would be hard to keep some of the clothing items after all this time without them falling apart, but I loved how detailed and edgy they were

    54. Oh hi!! I'm the one who linked you to her on reddit haha. Congratulations again!

      • x 1
    55. wait, did you get that beautiful delphine? She is one gorgeous girl. Yes I snatched that I-ra from the shop a couple a days ago. I'm just sitting around sweating and so nervous. She needs to come right now:love

Omg hello again! I lurked your profile a bit. So so many beautiful dolls! your frosty ice prince is to die for!:D

      • x 1
    56. Hehe thank you!! Dream of Doll definitely holds a special place in my heart! It was so hard not to buy that Kalix and Delphine they had up too honestly. I already have them but something about the default faceup option was appealing!

    57. They don't come up often but they do appear sometimes! WTB posts in the marketplace help because I don't think a lot of DOD clothes came labelled as such but reference pictures jog memory.

I did! She's keeping that although I might add a little extra red blush to her lips.
I nabbed Delphine and U-i - and Delphine has absolutely rocketed over here as she's out for delivery today :o (U-i got herself trapped in Customs so I'll have a ransom on her to pay first :sigh)

Now I just wanna know who got Kalix :XD: I have a NS one so I couldn't justify him as well!

    58. Thank you for the tip! Once I have marketplace access I will try to find some. I was able to complete my purchase of Camine this morning. Waiting for him is going to be excruciating because he's my first doll. I guess I'll spend the time comparing his body measurements to other dolls out there and try to find him a wig and something to wear

    59. I'm in a similar predicament and I'm curious if either of you successfully did a faceup touch up on your dolls? It's been a few years so I'm hoping maybe you have a recommendation for me now :XD: from the seller photos I suspect my Camine will need a lip touchup when he arrives
