On a side note I have photos of Krow again but I am super lazy to post it because one it's from a photoshoot and two, I take multiple photos that end up more than 100. I would have to sit down and pick the best one which is usually 10/100 x D

 

I know this might be a no-brainer question, but I honestly am not sure.

Orrell (DoT Dream #13 boy/New body 2) is a SD13, right? What is the limits between SD13 and SD17?

I've never really had to worry about this before, and I can't seem to find the answer.

@Ryuichi Sakuma 13 If he is on the boys new body 2 then he should be SD13. My boy is on that body and he fits in SD13 clothes just fine. I was under the impression that SD17 is for 70cm boys but I am unsure, when I looked it up the height listed was 65cm. But for what you need the boys new body 2 wears SD13. Shoes are what are difficult on that body...

 

I thought that Orrell would be SD13 since he's 64cm on the New Body 2, but I wasn't sure. I think that SD13 is from 61cm to 64cm and SD17 is 65cm to 69cm, with 70cm being anything from 70cm to 79cm, but don't quote me on that. Either way, I'm going to start looking for clothes for Orrie, he has exactly two outfits right now.

I got Tohma (DoI Luke) shoes and boots from 2079 Realms, and I have yet to find him anything that DOESN'T fit from them! Here's an old pic of his 2079 swag from the last order I got him. (WOW! Was it really back in 2013 he got them?)

Yes, SD17s are 65cm tall (some 66 or 67cm if they have bigger heads ^^). Depending on the clothing brand, Orrie could probably wear some SD17 sized items, but generally yes, he'd wear SD13.

Actual SD13 dolls are 60-63cm, but with the way doll body trends have been changing around, I don't know whether today's clothing with an "SD13" label is sized more for a 60 or a 63. Old DOT used to be almost exactly SD13-shaped, but a bit longer-legged. Does New Body 2 have even longer legs than the old DOT? And are his butt/hips thinner?

 

I have a question, I'm thinking of buying an outfit for my BJD friend in another country and she says she has a DOT old body, with the options for the outfit is New Body -2 and New Body (+0) which one would fit the old DOT body?

 

I don't really know what the specs are for the oDOT body, but the nDOT2's are as follows:

Outside of leg to bottom of foot: 34cm
Inseam: 34cm
Butt: 27cm
Hips (If I measured them correctly): 24cm

What are the specs for the oDOT boy body? Honestly, he looks thinner to me than the nDOT2's body. I also don't remember if I've ever seen a oDOT in person before, and if I did, it was before I got Orrie, so I've had no chance to compare the two yet.

Yeah it seems the new body 2 is a strange in between of SD13 and SD17. I haven't personally gotten Ezra anything SD17 but all of the SD13 clothes I've gotten him just fit. As in, if hes in a completely stiff stance. If his arms or legs are bent at all his wrists and ankles show a bit. It was recommended to me to not do SD17 on him because they would be a bit baggy but honesty I think they can wear either size without looking too ridiculous. Depends on what kind of fit you're looking for and what style of clothes. Capris and short sleeves are always good options too!

These are the first clothes ive ever really bought him cause I make most of my own. They are both for SD13, the pants are really dramatic because of how he's sitting but his wrists are showing just from having his arms up. But it's not that bad really.

 

@Ryuichi Sakuma 13 here he is in SD13 clothes just standing normally (hes on a new body 2).

lolz! How cute is that big boy with that little tree. He does look thin, or maybe he only seems thinner because his clothing is young-looking.

I always think of Severin's oDOT body as having such a big bottom and wide hips... I put him in tight leather clothes a lot, so I guess his big assets are always on display. ^^ At any rate, he and my SD13s have the most junk in the trunk of all my ~60cm doll types. I haven't met a nDOT yet, but I have met DOIs, and those guys just seem so skinny and stringy compared to the old body-sculpting style.

 

Wow! It's been so long since I've checked in here that I didn't even realize there was a new DoT body. It's even more muscular than the DoI!

Stringy? Only compared to your IpleHulks! He's massive compared to the rest of my SD17/SuperGem clan.

 

Sinewy, y'know? Like, nothing subcutaneous. Stringy. Not much in the way of curves. 8-pack candybar abs and no junk in the trunk. ^^ Old body doesn't have a sinew or a sharp angle on it.

 

Yeah the oDoT is super soft and bottom-heavy, much like a Volks SD13. Kinda too bad that a lot of the distinct bodies are being replaced by the new popular type, but that's how the biz works.

 

Yeah, that's what I was saying above-- skinny butts and more-than-60cm height are the new standard, but oDOT is shaped pretty much just like SD13. Since clothing standards have changed to match, we were unsure if NewDOT would fit SD13 clothes, but he seems to get by OK.

Check it out... DOI's waist is the same 20 cm as oDOT's, so that boy definitely needs a sandwich.

And oh man, it does look like nDOT is built even heavier than both the oDOT and the DOI, after all. He's got way puffier muscles. However, nDOT still has smaller hips/bum, so I guess that's why he can still rock SD13 clothes. @Ryuichi Sakuma 13 , I found the oDOT measurements btw:

Hmm, so they are keeping both body styles. That's good! The new guy is sort of a mashup of the DoI top half and the DoT bottom half.
All I have is a mashup of old photos. I miss owning a DoT, but it wasn't the right silhouette after all.

 

Well, the oDOT page says 'sold out'.... so I think they are just keeping the page up for reference. I haven't seen one of the old bods in a long time now.

Aww, I miss our little old-style bootlicker St. James! But y'know, evolution must move forward.

 

They've got two pages up for the old style body, though. The first one is sold out, but the revised one with the double-jointed elbows is still for sale.

 

Well, since my DOI Luke is Seguchi Tohma from the series Gravitation, he's supposed to be tall and willowy. Orrell's nDOT2 body is definitely chunkier and more muscular than Tohma.

@BlueyKiwi I thought I got back to you! Sorry! Anyway, the eyes are Mako Eyes AM-010 in 16mm. I was going for grey (these have got a purple tint to them), but heck, they're pretty so he's keeping them until I grab him new ones.

@Ryuichi Sakuma 13 My Sha is on a nDOT2 body and he's fit everything SD13 I've thrown on him so far. Tops-wise, anyway. Bottoms... eh. It's the waist/hips, I think. They're wider there than a lot of similar-sized bodies from other companies, at least according the the measurements listed on their websites. Mine fits (and sits!) comfortably in Dollheart SD13. And I'm pretty sure I have a pair of jeans or two from Tata's, but I haven't seen the DOT size option for a while so I dunno about now.

Thanks so much, Embracing Sky! Once the holidays are over, I'm going to have to buy Orrell clothes and shoes/boots. The poor boy has two outfits, and both are very fancy. He needs everyday clothes.

Oh, and for the record, Orrell has a pair of DollHeart boots, and they fit like a dream! I'm tempted to see if I can find him more.

Does anyone else know of any other company's clothes that fit the nDOT2 bodies? Is there a thread for this? If not, there should be.

You're welcome! I'm more into spoiling my tinies right now, but I try to eye the SD-sized things (especially pants and shoes, since finding tops is less difficult) to see if I want to test them out. Much as I love Dollheart, I'd really like more casual clothes, too. There is this thread, but the last post with any info is from October 2010. All the more up to date info is probably scattered in the main DOT discussion threads. Like... the thread mentions Iplehouse pants as a fit, and I suppose they mean YID (which is kind of similarly sized to a DOT, I guess?), but maybe that's the old YID, because I know nYID pants don't fit (legs are okay, waist/hips/butt not so much).

(For anyone with DOT girls, I also had this thread saved, but I don't know how good the info is.)

I found out about Dollheart shoes via this year's fukubukuro! I've had shoes from them before that didn't fit, but when I compared the ones I got in my bags to my Sha's feet, they looked like they'd fit. And they did! \o/ The only other shoes I've found were from Tata's and Dollmore. I wish more shops would list the inner length and width of their shoes. I don't really like playing the Will It Fit?? game (with shoes or otherwise).

 

Maybe we should start a "what fits a nDOT2 body" thread. Hn...that actually isnt' a bad idea.

That reminds me, I haven't tried Tohma's 2079 Realms shoes and boots on Orrie yet!

Speaking of bodies... How well does changing male and female heads work for the bodies?
As in if I wanted a male head on a female body, and vice-versa.

 

Good question. I have a DOT boy and DOT girl, when I get home tomorrow I'll do something dastardly and swap them and take a pic. But their heads are close in size so I think it'd look fine, but I will see how different the neck hole might be.

The heads are the same size, but the neck holes are different. In fact I forgot that the male doll Sha is the same sculpt as female Shall, just the neck hole is bigger.

So yeah, my heads are pretty obvious gender-wise, since Lahoo has big chin and nose, and Shall has girly make-up. The neck holes being the wrong size makes it so neither can pose properly. The neck hole being too big looks ok, but it doesn't move right. But with the right modding and paintwork you can use a boy sculpt on a girl and vise versa.

St. James used to have a 70cm Lahoo girl, back in the day-- on an old Dollshe girl body. She was a big gangly cute tomboy with those big eyes. She looked great and I got awfully attached to her (alas, she got re-shelled).

Honestly the faces don't have a helluva a lot of genderiffic signifiers in themselves, so once you get the neck-size sorted, they really swap pretty easily. @Lehst I think your two kids look adorable both ways! The girl looks older as a Lahoo because that head hasn't got so much little-girl makeup on; I actually think that the adult look suits her. ^^

 

Soon... soon it will be tax season... I can't wait to get a tax return since that's usually the only time of the year I buy doll clothes! XD I saw some stuff I want to buy Lahoo (btw my dolls have several names but for ease of reference I use the default ones a lot too haha) . I feel a little bad the other kids at home are going to be neglected this time around.

But actually... what I REALLY want is another DOT.
Aaaugh but so expensive!! How will break the news to my significant other? You see, I promised myself (and him too I guess) that I wouldn't buy another resin doll until I replaced my old car.

Well... I did technically pay off a new (used) car...


@JennyNemesis well thanks, I think? Lol nah they do look kind of cute in these pictures. In real life, especially after seeing how they normally are, my friend and I couldn't get over how odd the switch was! Yeah if it had been a planned combination, pretty much any head on these dolls can be for a boy or a girl. Everyone I know that doesn't own dolls says my boys look like girls. XDD

 

I agree, the girl does look older on the boy body, but the roundness of her head in general still makes her seem a bit young.

"Where does the spam go?" = Pics usually go in your own Gallery threads, or else in those Photo-Sharing threads, if you've got a lot.... but we're also allowed 1 pic per post in Discussion threads, so a lot of one-shot spam ends up in here too. Photo-sharing threads are usually quieter than discussions, but that's where you can cut loose with the spam when you want.

I'm liking the pic spam threads since its a quick way to see a bunch of pics of your favorite companies, but the ones I like are kind of dead! I want some DOD spam... guess I'll hunt down some galleries. (tries not to be lazy.) I like pic spam also cuz they are usually recent. Everyone! Go forth and spam! LOL (if you have time haha. I'll be posting some too a bit later :3 )

 

Yeah, these days it's harder to get people to even come view the Gallery when you do put up a whole show-- I personally blame the wireless culture that has rendered people unable to focus on more than 1 bite of information at a time (nevermind 12 to 24 whole photos, with words! ). Old DOA used to have a lot more lively Gallery activity, because the world wasn't yet totally saturated with pictures of eleventy million different kinds of dolls like it is now. Also, I think many folks have moved to Tumblr or Instagram or what-have-you, instead of a dedicated doll forum.

And you're right, fewer people even know about the photo-sharing threads, which is sad, because those are a great way to view just the type/brand of doll you like all in one place.

I have to get another free weekend, and then I have to get off my ass and change Severin's clothes, before I can provide more new spam! But I'll get to it eventually.... it's overdue...

 

Yeah I guess its largely because of so many other image sharing sites, and people have their own accounts on blogs and FB and stuff. When my doll project (that's been being secretly built the last few years) is done, I'll be on here, but also on deviantart. I'm still not sure how to use tumblr and instagram... : /

Do you have an old pic posted of all your dolls together? I don't think I've gotten mine in one pic together, since they are different scales.

 

I don't have any one pic of the whole collection, since it's up to 41 dolls of all sizes, and the collection doesn't fit in pics anymore. ^^ But that link in my sig is a hideously-outdated tour (I haven't updated the Whole Collection thread in 5 years) that includes almost everybody.

I only have 4 dolls total, but that's probably because I also collect a lot of anime figures/goods and for awhile some dolls you find in any toy dept. Heheh, thanks! And, oh, my snowglobe disorder. I keep forgetting I actually admitted that in public here. Yes, well. Those Ikea condominium-shelves are what allow me to have that many dolls and that many snowglobes in a small apartment.

As to how I keep track of everyone, well,.... I guess I just know them! I've been collecting for 10 years, you get to know a doll after awhile. ^^ I do have a spreadsheet with everyone's dates and details and prices and all that written down, but mostly I know them beause I stare at them a lot & take pictures of them. And do you know? Severin is still my only DOD doll! I have been loving almost every one of their willowy beautiful anime-dreamboat boys for the past decade-- but the stars were only ever right for just this one special guy. :

About the mod , actually my friend did it , he used clay (maybe Ladoll clay) to mod the ear and airbrush to changed skin color .

 

@ everyone and @JennyNemesis : ooh a spreadsheet is a good idea. I keep forgetting when I got mine, can't even recall the year without some serious head-scratching. So Severin was basically "the one" from DoD huh? I have hard time deciding when I look at all the sculpts on their site. Just when I think I'm sure, I change my mind again!

But I think the one I want, and will end up getting, has always been Camine. I wasn't totally in love at first though, he just kind of weedled his way in since I bought a fullset Lahoo, somehow found a fullset Shall, and its like Camine is the third (missing) member. From the company photos anyway.

Over time his face grew on me, and just this year I realized I actually have a character type I want to do that his face would work for. @_@ can't stop thinking about him lately.

A day later and I am still goggling over that Luke. He's just a wow.

Severin is "the one" from DOD because he fell into my lap by a fabulous twist of fate. Since he was OOAK I assumed that noybody I knew would ever get him! But then his original winner auctioned him off, and then he ended up with my friend here in town... and then years later my friend decided to sell, & I was lucky to be the first one he thought of to adopt this magnificent creature. So it's almost like I don't want to jinx the Universe now by buying an 'ordinary' doll off the site. Or something. ^^

Also I could never pick which face I'd want most. They're all so pretty, and, especially with those older sculpts, they all look so RIGHT together-- you'd want the whole bunch! I totally dig where you're going with getting that Camine to finish off the group with Lahoo & Shall. Camine is one of the classic cuties.

If I had the shelf space, I would buy a whole gaggle of DOTs to be Severin's lackeys and stagehands and groupies and hangers-on. (And maybe Kalix or Orll to be the sinister road-manager. xD) I have a whole gaggle of Volks SD13s, and I love the stylistic harmony of having all those faces together. If only my apartment had room for a whole DOD wing.

@Lehst - Oh , the white one is my first boy , Kazuki . Both of them are Luke no.1 .

 

I finished him. He has the set of clothes he wears most of the time before he goes mad. I can post a picture of the coat all spread out too. It's longer. I tried really hard to make it match what I saw in my head; a mockery or a religious garment that has an older feel despite the wearer being young. Azriel is more himself now than he has ever been.

@Kiroka I love the contrast of light and dark with your Lukes up there. I always forget how different mine looks.

I ordered my Orrl, Gray. He's coming blank so you probably won't see him for a bit. I'm excited. I've been waiting to get him for nearly two years. It's hard to believe that it has been that long. His character has remained constant for just about 4 years now so... we'll see how this goes. Azriel came into being I think... 13 years ago, maybe more. I think I drew him for the first time about 11 years ago and I know his shell is pretty old, poor guy. Argh, rambling as always. Miss coming on here so I'm glad to see so many pretty new pictures. there was a Halloween one back there that I really liked quite a lot.

 

Oooh, Orrl. Congratulations! We'll wait patiently until you finish him enough to take photos. That is, I will TRY to be patient. Orrl is extremely dreamy and we don't see enough of them in the world.

Also congratulations on getting your boy's One True Outfit brought to life! I'd love to see a spread of the whole coat-- I think the quasi-ecclesiastical look is always way sexy.

 

Ohhh Azriel looks handsome. And please do post pictures of his lovely attire.

oh my goodness you guys totally have made my day.I will post pictures of Gray once he arrives so that you can see him blank and see him once he is more himself as well. I've had his things for so long it seems surreal that he's actually coming home. I'm happy to share him if you want to see.

@JennyNemesis Thank you so much! I can't wait for him to arrive. He's going too be such a smug little punk. Azriel actually picks him to be turned and makes Nichodemus take him. Gray is a young noble, a beautiful hedonist who will do anything for the pleasure of the experience... so long as it doesn't hurt. He won't mentally connect with a mind that is experiencing pain. He just can't stomach it. I thought you might enjoy learning a little bit about him so you would know why he had to have that cunning and sensuality that I saw in that sculpt.

@BlueyKiwi I didn't realized that he'd been missed. I'm so glad you like how it's come out. I don't have the best pictures yet, I haven't gotten to the ones on my actual camera because the battery died, but I will post more once I get those sorted out.

@Kiroka Thank you on all accounts. It was not the easiest outfit to make, though now I have patterns for the entire thing, so that's good. I wanted to make him something black as well. I hope it is a bit easier to create!

This is not the best of best shots. I got it with my cell after the big camera had died but I more or less liked how it came together. You can see the length of the coat in it and get an idea of how it all floats with him as he moves. He comes across as rather slinky under all that fluff and I'm really happy with how he behaves since I did the modification of his joints.



Azriel with his lover Shydran. Ironically Shy would never see him wearing these clothes because the are so horrible and ratty by the time he finds Azriel in the barn, that they end up being thrown away.

 

It's beautiful! Very flowy and glam. Love the border, and love the rock-star shoes with it.

Sometimes I fantasize about having an Orrl to be Severin's crooked road-manager or something. Would that I had the shelf-space for it! He does have that lazy sensual cunning air about him-- Severin has that too, which is the main reason I love him.

 

@JennyNemesis I'll tell you a secret... well maybe not so secret if we had met and chatted more but, the Ducan is the sculpt that got me into the hobby. I saw him and knew that I would be able to make the characters I had been writing about have a physical form. He's still kind of a grail because he's the one that got away; I almost had one once, and I still think that someday I will find the head and have a sweet little person for no good reason. Till then I will vicariously live through you, cause if your going to vicariously live through someone for a doll, you may as well have him be one thumper of a doll and not just settle for a few pictures on the website. I'll do my absolute best to make Gray amazing so that you can do the same. If we meet at another Dollism or something, you can check him out and see if you like how the bugger feels in person and flick Azriel in the forehead for being such a demanding jerk, lol.

 

I would love to meet you and Azriel at whenever the next Dollism is! Unfortunately Severin doesn't travel though, so it'll just be me representing. Ducan is definitely one of the classic faces of BJD history, I think.... he set the mood for that lazy-sexy-cunning look that so many DOD dolls went on to have. Even his non-vampire-elf version has it, which is excellent. He may still come to your home someday; they have a way of doing that.

Ducan is pretty much what got me into the hobby xD I saw a promo picture of him on social media and i just had to get one of them! Haru was my first and i cant believe its already been 3 years since then ... Haru's birthday marks another year of me being in the hobby. Heres a picture from his birthday shoot i had last month ^-^ 3 years and counting!!

 

@Bzika : Welcome! I'm a huge fan of DoD myself. They're the ones who got me into this hobby in the first place. They truely have beautiful sculpts. Taking pretty pictures of the dolls however, is a whole other matter. Especially when they arrive pale as ghosts... :'D

@xTempest : Congratulations on the 3 year anniversary! Have Haru yellowed any since his arrival? I'm just curious about how susceptible to yellowing the newer batches of DoD resin are. It's so difficult to get the color balance right when I'm trying to take a picture of Rin (who arrived mid-2015) with my Lahoo of 10 years... orz

That said, I was playing around with the idea of Rin with shorter hair today. (Mainly because the flyaway on his long wig is really starting to bother me.) Here's a new photo of him with short hair~ It makes him look less like the arrogant, cocky jerk he is I think. XD

 

I can second this. They were the ones who showed up first when I started to research BJDs and most seemed to have a DOD doll back then too! But now they seem to have died down, as a company.
I have seen people asking questions on their Q&A board about events - I wish I knew what the replies were!
