Dream of Doll: DoT and DoI - Part 6

Nov 11, 2015

    1. Oh noooo, they were my first company too. For their email to not be working at all... :(

I didn't have any concrete plans for future purchases, but it is definitely a bummer to know that I can't buy from them, period. I liked their aesthetic and I had a lot of sculpts on my "someday" list.

    2. I was able to login to the site, and email them from the site and post to their message board. I sent them an email directly and it didn't bounce. Not that any of that means anything since they aren't answering emails. What's odd is that the site is still up. It's too bad they can't be more open about what's happening. I guess this means I'll never be able to add Lilth to my vampire stable....

    3. @dollhausen I posted to their message board a month or two ago and they don't seem to be checked it AT ALL, since like... May/June. :/ Ugh.... so frustrating that they can't tell us anything of what's going on.

    4. I am still hoping they will come back and let us know it is re-open again.
There are many people waiting to get back to order but it's very odd that they've been gone for so long. I thought they were just revamping the site unless they are encountering some problems. I guess we'll wait and see... : \

    5. I know, they could just post something to the news section of the site. Of course the hopeful part of me is that they're raising money from the bank or someone to restart their business or changing owners or something like that. There's outfits I would like to have gotten and most of that stuff has to have already been made, right? Of course it could be that the bank has foreclosed and all that stuff's gone to auction and somebody just forgot to turn off the web site when they left the building.

    6. I'm going to wait and keep hoping that they return... I check their site often, in hopes something pops up.
      I can't lose that hope. I love that company. They were my first doll company... ;_;

    7. I don't know if they have one, but has anyone tried to contact their dealer/sales rep. here on DOA? It's a long shot...

But maybe showing we still want to buy from them can be a good thing as well :) I need my The B and a new body >.<

    8. This discussion makes me sad too. They're the company that got me into BJDs. It does seem like they've had less overall interest in the last few years, but were still releasing new sculpts. Even though I know many of the people in this forum who have DOD dolls want more. I went to look at other companies because I was growing into a new aesthetic and other resin colours. But DOD will always be special because they were my first. :(

Here's Irial to cheer people up.

    9. Yeah.... not many people like their aesthetic at all. Seems people enjoy the more realistic dolls better, nowadays. They did so well back in 2007, 2008 and 2009. ;_; I have three boys and a head right now. A Sha, Luke and Ducan. The head is a Dream 11 head.

Your boy is gorgeous! :D Even if I have more realistic sculpts like Soom and Iplehouse, DOD will always have a special place in my heart. :aheartbea

As for a dealer/sales rep... I don't even know if they have one here. O_o

    10. DOD was my first company too T_T I still have my first boy. My first Ducan will be 10 in January. I love him to bits.. I still wanted so many dolls from them still but money had been an issue or I would have ordered more from them. It's been a year or two since they last released a doll. I just keep hoping they are only taking a bit of a break and will be back :(

    11. Irial is a beauty! And all bundled up for cool weather in that scarf.
So many DOD guys here in this thread have such great blue wigs. None of my dolls have a really good non-fantasy-style blue wig. I like this kind of understated jrock style. Where do you guys get your blue wigs from?

Yes, the classic BJD look definitely fell out of fashion.... Iplehouse cancelled all their own big-eyed slim-bodied dolls in favor of muscle and crags (so now they're making a fashion-doll type because they realized they didn't have any slim-bodied poseable dolls left  ).... Volks is somewhat keeping the faith, but even they're making smaller heads and sculpted muscles.... But don't despair, because all fashion is cyclical! It's like the way if you leave anything in your closet for 20 years, it'll come back in fashion. I expect there'll be a fashion for old-school BJDs soon enough. Big eyes, willowy bodies, no muscles. ^^ I like my old boys.

Here's my old boy to help cheer everyone up, too! I believe he's a 2007 vintage. <3

    12. @JennyNemesis Irial's blue wig came as an event gift from DOD. It's a pain to position so you can see his eyes. I ended up turning it almost sideways to get that side swipe fringe. Irial tends to change his hair style and colour a lot. I feel it's his flamboyant punk streak. :)

    13. GAAAAAH This boy makes me fangirl so hard!!! I have SO MUCH love for this boy! :D <3 <3 <3 <3

    14. [IMG]
I hope you're right! xD It seems a lot of people love Fairyland, though... =_= I love Fairyland, I just wish that DOD would get some love again. Of course, we're TRYING to love them, but they're not around. T__T

Your boy is so gorgeous~! It's nice to see him once in a while, especially because he's so super rare.

Here's my first baby, Izuri, since everyone is showing off their boys! :aheartbea

      I'd post pictures of my Luke... but... he's been blank for a few years. I'm hoping to get him done soon, though. If money wasn't always such an issue, he would be done already. xD;;

    15. @YukiOokami Oh wow! I adore how all your boys are looking up from under their eyelids. It's super smoking! And the dark eye makeup just accentuates it. <3

    16. Thank you so much, dear! n__n

    17. Yay, so many pictures! I had noticed that DoD isn't talked about much anymore, if at all. I guess that's because they've been defunct for a few months? I took a long break from the hobby (since 2008!) so coming back this year was like night and day as far as popular companies. I'm glad to see there are still some around, though. I never expected my girl to be considered 'rare.' :\

    18. It's never talked about, like... at all, anymore. Even when they were here, no one seems to like them. :/ 2007, 2008 and 2009 were probably the best years for them, since I've been in the hobby. Then people were all about Soom, fantasy dolls and more realistic sculpts.

    19. This is all so sad.
I hope they have a big dramatic comeback with new releases and a shiny new website design.
The DOI Kellan was the very first bjd I'd ever seen.
      FIrst bjd I got too.
I have plans on at least three more of their dolls.

    20. It's such a great shade of blue. I like the sideswept look on him, so that works! That style of wig can be a real face-eater, so if you aren't much of a barber, it helps to get creative with the positioning. (I have how many wigs like that. ;;^^)

Thank you  I'm a fangirl for Severin too. It's like working for a rock star. But he's so old-fashioned looking compared to modern dolls.... I'm a fan of this old look in BJDs, though!

Love all these smoky eyed rock star boys! DOD guys look just fabulous in that glam style. You can't beat their fullsets. Severin should put his own fullset outfit soon; that is like my holy grail of outfits. <3 (Pleather has a limited life, though, and it's old, and there's only one, so I will love it while I can!)

I've noticed that clothing/styling fashions are getting pretty anti-glam lately... maybe that's part of the shifting trends. Last time I went to Japan, I found almost no fancy leather doll clothes, just a lot of super frilly/ casual/ fantasy. Depressing, but on the other hand I saved a ton of money not-buying all that. XD

    21. I've sent them emails since may this year and havent gotten a reply yet either ._. ..... I wonder if we could just call their office to find out whats going on...

    22. YESS, me too! I had a dream a night or two ago, about them having a big amazing comback. ;w:

Thank you!! Yes, they REALLY know how to pull off the look I give my boys. xD I miss the old look of BJD's sometimes...

Uggggh, pleather. Is that the type of leather that eventually starts peeling? I have an Iplehouse outfit that started peeling, plus a Heise outfit that just recently started peeling.... It's so sad. T__T

Severin's default outfit is so gorgeous. I wish I could have more of their outfits that are like that one. THAT'S SO SAD. I love leather doll clothes. T__T That's all my boys ever dress in. xD I can't get away from that look! LOL.

Oh no.... Since MAY? I thought people were ordering from them through email? :/ We need someone that can speak fluent Korean, STAT. Let's DO THIS. xD DOD needs to know how much we miss themmm!

    23. Yea, i emailed them to ask if it would be possible to buy a part of body, to replace a chipped/scratched joint ^^" ... No replies tho...

And even without the fluent korean speaker... we should just call to find out if the company still exists or not D: ... Pretty sure atleast someone there speaks enough english... I mean they do reply emails in english xD ...

    24. They probably had a translator do that for them. However since their email address is bouncing I would say that if there's any pictures you want from their site to download them now....

    25. Oh, DUH. xD Yeah... someone needs to call.

T_T Yeah..... Angela_Valentine and I were talking about that yesterday. :(

    26. I'm sure if you call you're going to get the Korean equivalent of this:

    27. I very much agree with you! <3 I miss all the older dolls too T__T I miss how liked the DOT's were and even the Delfs back then.. I remember when I first got into the hobby it seemed that's all everyone had was a DOD doll or a CP Delf. Ducan will always hold a special place in my heart. I was hoping for another T_T I guess secondhand will have to do.. I still don't understand what made these babies so unpopular.. I love their style. Everytime I look at Ducan's pictures on there I want another LOL. You must spam your gorgeous boy! <3

    28. Yes, pleather = plastic + leather. ^^ Or vinyl or PVC. Plastic is always on a timer... but it's such a gamble, you can just never tell whether or not a garment will last! I've got some expensive ones (Heise, Iple) that peeled within a couple years, and I've had cheap ones that are still fine after ten years, and sometimes items from the same company last differently. So far Severin's pants are still OK but I should keep an eye on the vest. I want to give all the pleather a good life being worn.

Everyone had either CP, DOD, Volks or Dollshe. Times were simpler.

I will see about getting Severin some new pics for you, since he does deserve more spam than I provide (shame on me!).

    29. So.... I went through and saved all the pictures I wanted. :/
It really made me realize that this could be the end and I got really sad. :(

That sucks! I don't like that, but I guess real leather would be ridiculous. xD Why is it that the cheaper ones last? LOL. That makes no sense. xD I didn't give enough time for my Iple outfit. I didn't have the girl I wanted for it, at the time. =_=

    30. It's a gamble... some cheap stuff doesn't last & some expensive stuff does, it's hard to predict. I think the really soft fine stuff might be more prone to peeling, and the more plasticky stuff (that looks less real) lasts longer. Which is totally unfair. ;;

That's a good point about the photos: might be time to make an archive!

    31. Been stalking the DoD site. I'm a little nervous as to what might happen but I'm gonna keep alert for changes. Fingers cross for something good. Gonna share a pick of my boy Yuki while the possibilities float around my head.

    32. @Gintsumi Did you do Yuki's tattoo? If you did, what medium did you use? E.g coloured pencils
Can I see another pic showing it off?

    33. I wasn't the one who did the Tattoo. I commission /members/hane.6924/. Before the end result I had this artist do it first /members/abel.14929/ but had Hane redo it to get it just how I wanted.
Here is another look at it

    34. Now I'm going through all their site pics too... So much stuff I wanted... Dolls, clothing, shoes, figure if I have the images I can try to make something similar for my dolls. This is so depressing though. E-an was my first BJD as a gift.... To think her creators are possibly gone just seems so wrong. I really wanted to get her restrung with their official cording but looks like I'll have to go with another company for the second cord.

    35. @Gintsumi : I really love Yuki's tattoo! Its soooo pretty :D

I really hope they are just revamping their website and not disappearing for good... I've still got a few dolls that i would love to get from them >.< .... DoD was the company that got me into this hobby... Completely fell for Ducan when i saw the promo picture while looking up references for a school project and saved up to get one of my own ^^" ... He was my first doll and is still my bias to date :P
"Haru wants, Haru gets" is the motto i live by now -faints-

I would join in the spam of dolls but Haru isnt in the mood for photos these days... too busy with the new psp i got him -sigh-

    36. I finally just sent an email outright asking if the company is still in business <_< Subject line and all. Haven't gotten a mailer daemon notice or anything sooo progress? Hopefully I'll get a reply or anyone here will. Going through all these pictures is making me so antsy to get stuff from them again.... God I really wanted Elf Ducan, Lahoo, and I-ra... So. Badly.

    37. Oh dear, I came to this thread for some pretty pics. I didn't know they'd closed down! Ah, that's sad. I'd been wanting a couple of their sculpts. Petsha was one of the first abjd's I saw! (Though all of your dolls are very cute.)

    38. It took me two days to get a mailer daemon back when I sent them an email. Someone else had reported that and I tried myself and like you I took it as a good sign that there wasn't an immediate bounce back but then it did. I wanna have hope but like I said before this reminds me of some other companies like Lee-el where the website is still up but they're done. With no response to the the QA board, the end of the emails and such I'm not hopeful that there's gonna be a happy ending here. But I would be excited if they did come back...like those guys on that TV show Walking Dead...

    39. I just popped onto the DoD site to check and see if the dolls I wanted were still for sale since I had plans on buying from them soon, only to find "coming soon" on literally everything and a notice saying they're doing site maintenance. Someone in a group told me that they probably went under and it's breaking my heart! Their Tender Bee and Too twin msd's have been next on my list for awhile so now I have to gamble in the marketplace to find them is going to be a not so fun battle. :(

This is so upsetting. I really hope this isn't the case. They have some of the prettiest dolls I've ever seen.

      • x 1
    40. Looks like it's going to be a marketplace search for a lot of us the way it's going so far. >_< Somehow I have to find a New Body Type 2 for DOT or DOI Boy <_< Dream Head 16 needs a body at some point. I just finished saving pictures and had something weird happen. I'd click on a link on their website and it would load a Firewall Triggered Alert page. Happened about seven times, first only when I clicked a new link and then even when I hit the back button. This isn't looking good <_<

    41. The website works just fine for me with no firewall alerts. Grabbed all of the pictures I could, too. :(

    42. The website still works, but I'm wondering if the mailer daemon errors are from a full mailbox? Since they don't seem to be checking their Q&A, either. I was hoping that someone had good news by now but no dice. The lights are on but no one is home. :(

    43. Maybe it is a full mail box? ;_; But no one is checkinnnnng itttttt. This is terrible....

    44. Someone should just send them a link to this thread because we're a big bunch, we're all very sad and very eager to buy their dolls... I wanted to order so many things from them but instead I had to go on a marketplace hunt and I really wanted to give them the money to show the interest, if that makes sense
I want so many of their dolls, and their event heads are always my favourite, this is so sad...

      • x 1
    45. Haven't gotten a mailer daemon notice back yet here, which... Could mean any number of things really. I'm surprised they don't have a rep on here at all. I'm assuming Luts does since their sale is advertised in the banner ads. DOD has always been one of the biggest companies to me :-/ Doesn't seem right that they've just altogether disappeared.

      • x 1
    46. Cripes... Been popping in here every now and again hoping for good news regarding DoD but I'm getting seriously worried now. I've been wanting to buy another doll from them when I have an income again since I really love their bodies and sculpts... Please pull through, DoD team! :(

    47. I agree SO much with the secondhand thing. I would much rather buy the dolls from them directly, to help them out and keep their business going.

      • x 1
    48. I agree with YukiOokami. I prefer to buy them directly rather than the secondhand market. I prefer my dolls to be new but I can understand buying it through the marketplace. As a customer I'd like to support the companies I like.

@Gintsumi I love your boy! He's so handsome. Also that tattoo is really stunning to look at with all the intricate details :D

Stay strong everyone! I have hopes that DoD website will return with news of what has happened.
In the mean time let's all post some photos old and new to keep the thread alive :XD:

    50. I really hope we hear some kind of news soon :atremblin DOD is one of my favourite doll companies so I'll be really sad if they just disappear. But in the mean time let's try and stay positive! :)

    52. I can't believe that they are gone. I hope that DOD reappears. This was the company that got me into dolls. The Lahoo was the first one i saw in person and the Ducan was the first one that showed me they could potentially work to shell my characters. Lucian is one of them. There is no other sculpt that would have worked for his wolfen face. I hope that someone finds some good news about them soon![IMG]

    53. I dropped by to see if anyone had heard anything yet and see it's worse than I'd imagined! :...(

I have a different email for them from a few years ago, so I've sent one there as well with a (badly, google-translated) Korean copy as well just in case it gets through. It looks like they were replying a bit longer on the Korean website, up until late July...
I still want so many of their dolls! :(

To stay on the photo topic: my twin boys! Both Mr.P1 :chomp:

    54. Oo~oooh, Mr. P twins. The only thing nicer than one is two.

    55. Jeez, should i post Azriel? He's one of my three and i haven't posted him in forever.

    56. So I've had a quick look in the reference forum, but it seems to be quicker to ask you all: I'd like to get some heel feet for my 2012 DOT U-I. Any recommendations for resin matching and compatible joint?

She has yellowed to a cream on the sun exposed limbs. I'm not looking for a perfect match, just something that isn't obviously majorly wrong.

    57. @Buzzibee I just recently researched this myself, and here's what I came across:

      Angell Studio's Pink skin
      Iplehouse normal
      Angel of Dream pink normal

I'm hoping to get my girl a new body someday, but not in the cards just yet. Still, hope this helps!

    58. So I just checked DOD site again. I can't read the error message, but I know what 404 means. Tried four times now and keep getting the same screen. Not sure how to post the pic on here <_>

    59. The website seems to be down? :...( Are they gone..? I never got to order one of their dolls.. :(
