Dream of Doll: DoT and DoI - Part 6

Nov 11, 2015

    1. Sounds like plan! Have you tried Tata's Paradise? I'vealso had great luck with 70cm clothes for Tohma (And my OFT topic boy Tatsuha) there. Remember, if it's Hound size, chances are, it'll fit your Kalix.

I'm slowly remembering other places I've bought Tohma's clothes from. I should check out Tata's since I also need to find clothes for Orrell, my more eccentric DoT boy. Poor boy still only has two outfits. :sweat

I really should take some new pics of him...as soon as it stops raining and dries up. :XD:

    2. @Ryuichi Sakuma 13 he looks so cute!

I have a weird photo request as well. Does anyone happen to have the very obscure Elf Mr. W? I saw a stock photo of him and I can't decide if I love him or hate him :XD: I feel I need to see more pictures of him before I add him to my wishlist.

    3. Thanks to @LupusDarkmoon who showed it to us, this site was found to have most, if not all of DoD's pics on it from their old site.

I see that we're getting close to post #1000, so when a new thread is started, I vote that we put a link to that dropbox address to make it easy for people to find it. :whee:

I don't know if anyone that still posts to this thread has an Elf Mr. W, but I too would like to see pics! :3nodding:

    4. I’m so happy th see this discussion. I got frustrated when I saw that dream of doll was closed. I was about to buy Ivan as my first bjd. So I looked everywhere, and it was very hard to find him second hand.
But now I have him and also many others: Kirill, Si, Tender Too, 2 Ducans, Sha and 2 special event heads.

I really love the Ducan’s body I have. I think it’s the most beautiful body I’ve seen on bjd, or maybe it was just my type. Very slender with full behind. I love to do naughty pose on him.

Sha was hybrided with unknown body but I didn’t like it. So I put him on old dollzone’s body and it fits great!

    7. I’m amazed to see this still being used! I’ve got a pretty big update to do on it - hopefully this week - there’s a whole lot of things with only thumbnail images I’d left off that I’ve been slowly hunting down. If anyone has any images saved from 2009 and earlier that would be a huge help :D

    9. There's been a few of them popping up in the MP too. My friends and I have been shooting the links back and forth :) I want to bring them all home, but I'd be so broke, haha.

    10. You’re welcome! I’m happy to share them :dance

    11. Hybrid question, if anyone has one: what bodies will DOT heads fit on/match well with? If any XD

    12. Guys... I must be living in a dream. If 2020 has been good for anything for me, it has been for grail acquisitions!!

I'm waiting to open my Kalix (he was a gift from my husband) on my birthday on Wednesday. I logged in to Facebook for the first time in over a week and I could not believe my eyes. Someone was selling a full set Delphine! My heart nearly jumped out of my chest. She was, by some miracle, still available. So now she is on her way home to me too!

I hope she makes it to my door by Wednesday. This will be a long-time wait for a double grail day! :D I can't wait to share my photos of them!

I'm planning to dress them both in Victorian-style clothing. I am going to make a mourning dress for the Delphine. Deciding on names now...

    14. Awesome, thank you! I’ve seen that DollFamily makes good hybrids with a couple different companies, so I’m excited to see this fits as well. That’s the 62cm body, correct?

    15. Yes that is.

    16. Just popping in to share my photo of my Delphine and Kalix :D

I can't believe they are finally mine! I'm starting to sew them their new outfits now.

    17. You can only be envied... They are beautiful! <3

    18. Guys... it's happened. Twelve years in the hobby and I've brought home my first DoD boy xD
And now I kind of want another, and maybe another... :doh

Anyway, figured I'd just swoop in here and share my boy with you all. (He's a Camine)

I only got this one rubbishy picture before I sent him away for a face up. I already miss him SO MUCH. I didn't think I would love him this much but here we are.

    19. @Hyzenthlay Congratulations! He's charming. I can't wait to see his best photos :chibi

    20. He is so pretty :loveI really want to own Camine one day, I guess it’s hard to find now!

    21. This took longer than I expected - I've archived basically everything I could find from the original DOD website (circa 2004-2009), and added it all into the Dropbox link! *_* I plan on doing the 2009+ additions later in the year, I don't think my brain can take much more just yet :XD: I think I'm due some quality time with my collection.

    24. Hello! I am new to the hobby and started off with a second hand D.O.T. Tahlia. I wanted a DoD as accidentally stumbling upon their website ages ago is what actually got me interested in BJDs.

I purchased her in a set with a D.O.T. boy head (yet to identify the sculpt) and although I never really considered getting a male doll, now that I have it... So, long story short, I am looking for a body for him. I have looked at MiroDoll since they are on the cheap side and I exhausted my doll spending limit for this year. Does anyone have experience with this body or could recommend something else that's budget friendly?

Here's a picture of my Tahlia in a kimono style robe I just made her (pardon the state of her wig, she's waiting for a new one).

And here is the boy head:

    25. I'm no good at IDing specific sculpts, but welcome to the hobby, and to this thread!

Your dolls look so cool! Did you try opening the head to see if there is a sculpt name inside? Some companies cast their sculpt names in them. I can't remember if DOD did so or not. :sweat
Also, can you ask the person you bought him from? He looks like he has a DOD faceup.

Here in the US, tomorrow is Thanksgiving, so you may not get an answer right away. Hopefully someone from another country can answer you tomorrow about your head.

      Ryu

    26. Welcome to the hobby :3 My guess is that it's one of the Dream heads/event heads. It looks vaguely like a Dream Head 16 to me..? But I'm bad with angles XD My friends think it might be a Luke.
      Dreamhead 16:

      Luke:

As for hybrids, I'm in the same boat myself. One option I'm going to look at though is the Luts Senior Delf type 4 body. I just got one in a couple days ago and now that I have some free time, I wanna pop my DOD dream head on there and see what the match looks like.

      • x 1
    27. With MiroDoll, you get what you pay for, which is to say.... they're not good. I've found the resin yellows much quicker than other dolls I've owned, so it goes from being a close match to not matching at all.

With D.O.T., the main issues with hybriding are the larger heads can look oversized on some bodies, and the inconsistent resin color makes asking others for color matches really hit-or-miss.

    28. I don't think that the head is a Luke. Maybe its because the head in the pic is on its side, but the eyes look different to me. I could be wrong though, mind taking a pic of the head straight on, @Morri_P. ?

I posted a pic of Tohma, my Luke
in post 988, and it looks like Tohma's mouth isn't quite as open as the unknown head has. Here's a closeup pic of Tohma's head. I can take more pics of it if it'll help. :XD:

    29. Hello everyone! Sorry, I had a super hectic day yesterday.

@Sephora I don't think he is any of those boys, but damn, they are handsome!

@Doll-Mage I was afraid that may be the case. I could always just postpone this project until my doll budget is replenished or something comes up on the second hand market. Do you have any recommendations?

@Ryuichi Sakuma 13 Tohma is awesome! Love his outfit.

For a second I thought he might be Code no. 2, but I'm not sure. I think I have been staring at him for too long. I think it would really help if he had eyes, but I don't have any floating around since I'm a newbie. Here's the pic of him straight on:

And here is Code No. 2:

    30. I'm no good at identifying sculpts, but I just have to say, I really miss DoD's aesthetic. It's nice to see you have a head with the original faceup! Good luck matching him up. :)

    31. Thanks! I feel like luck will be much needed.
I was absolutely over the moon to get a DoD,nevermind (almost) two! They were my first exposure to BJDs and their aesthetic and attention to detail knocked me off my feet back then.

The doll in your profile picture has a stunning hair colour. Do I see curls as well? :love

    32. @Morri_P. I am pretty sure it's event head 9

      • x 1
    33. @Yumeiro & @Shido , BINGO! Thank you both very much. Now I know who he is. I just need to find him a body. And hair. And eyes... and so on. Let's face it, there's no such thing as "I'm finished" with BJDs.

I'm so in love with her. She came with the full set, including wig and shoes, but her lovely outfit is pretty delicate , so I keep it stored safely. I was really lucky to have come across her as it was the DoD sculpt I liked the most when eyeballing them years ago.

    34. Way to go, @Shido! :sumomo: I knew our DOD Archivist would come through! :XD:

Lucky you, @Morri_P.! You truly lucked out with finding not one, but two DODs! :3nodding:

Speaking of Dream heads, here is Orrell, my Dream version 13 boy. He's talking to Twyla, his girlfriend.

    35. They're both gorgeous! I love Orrel's teal hair. Such a great colour. What body is he on?

    36. Thank you! :whee:

Orrell is on a Dream of Teen boy New Body 2. I love this body, its pretty muscular.

I wish you the best of luck finding a body for your boy. You may want to consider getting another DOD boy and having them share a body if you can't find just a body alone. I have to do that with two of my very old Delf boys.

      Ryu

    37. @Ryuichi Sakuma 13 I try my best :XD:

Finding bodies that match was hard enough when DOD were still around, I know Musedoll (also gone awol) and Angell-Studio had close pinks to the super bubblegum pink of fresh DOD.
Just from my own collection I've found Dikadoll pink hands aren't too bad a match - mine are from 2014, so reasonably yellowed now, but they have stayed a decent match as the dolls they're on have changed, and she's a mini but Bluefairy NS matches my 2006ish Mir reasonably well (she's super yellow ).
Crobidoll is close but too peachy, and Soom NS/Fairyland NS is nowhere near.

I should perhaps spend a bit more time looking into hybrids, I'm slowly amassing more floating heads than I'd like to think about :frownyblush: and for all I love DOD I have too many of the same bodies now :sweat

    38. Put a WTB thread in the marketplace for a body from around the same year as the head, or wait until doll meets are happening again and do some resin /size matching in-person before you spend money on a body that might disappoint you.

Like, my Lahoo is a pretty close match to Luts RS Normal, Leeke NS, Doll Zone NS-pink...... but my D.O.C. Yen and Too of the same age are completely different colors from Lahoo.

    39. @Sephora, how did your DOD/Luts experiment go? :?

      Ryu

    40. @Ryuichi Sakuma 13 Yes, looking at eBay and stuff! They are not easy to come by these days though.

@Doll-Mage I don't have marketplace access yet and I don't think there are any doll meet ups here in the UK, unfortunately! That would have been ideal though.

@Shido Oh wow, that's a lot of names I haven't heard before. Thank you! I will go do some research.

    41. Ah, be careful of ebay, @Morri_P., a lot of people sell recasts on there, :xand some don't tell you that what they are selling is a recast. Just a word of caution. :3nodding:

At the rate you're posting, you should get MP access soon! :whee:

      Ryu

    42. @Morri_P. There's definitely no UK meets happening at the moment, but they do exist! There's usually a big one somewhere down London and in Manchester - you actually have to book to go to the Manc ones :o I have a little local group up in Newcastle too.

Ebay is very hit or miss for doll stuff, definitely. I used to report every fake I could and they never did anything about it :x

In nicer news, I think my Luke might have a name - Xander! I'm terrible with names, they don't always stick  Here's the troublemaker in question, from his arrival:

    43. Xander is a cool name!

Yeah, I'm hoping that our local group will have a Zoom BJD meetup soon. I have a few new dolls as well as my two DODs I'd love to show off. :XD:

    44. Thanks for looking out for me :) I am being very cautious and trying to educate myself on spotting fakes. There's some good info on DoA.
I am being fairly active, yes, but still have to hit the 60 days mark! I can't wait to see what's there.

Oh, really! That's amazing. All of those places are a bit far from me (South Wales), but it could be a nice little doll themed holiday ;)

Xander is a great name and suits him well!

    45. Yes, that is Caterina, my DoD Tender E-an. I actually need to take more pictures of her; I've been out of the hobby for awhile. But I'm glad you got your boy identified! Oh, and belated welcome to this addictive (but gratifying) hobby. :D

      • x 1
    46. @ryuunohime Thank you! It seems like apart from the dolls, this hobby also comes with amazing community!

Looking forward to seeing more pictures of Caterina! I love curly hair and I'm currently waiting for curly wefts to try and sew a wig from!

    47. @ryuunohime Ah, I love E-an so much :love Your Caterina is absolutely lovely! E-an (and I-ra) where the first big DOD girls I fell in love with :whee:

@Morri_P. Making wigs is hard but really satisfying :D I can't wait to see what you do!

    48. @Shido I will make sure to share! So far the hair is stuck in transit somewhere, so I am making clothes instead.

    49. @Shido Yes!! She was my first doll, it was love at first sight. I still want an elf I-ra, but I don't hold out much hope at this point. :(

@Morri_P. Thank you! Her wig is a bit of a flyaway mess right now unfortunately, so I am going to try to fix that before taking more photos. I can't believe she's 13 years old at this point. :o

    50. @ryuunohime - It's possible! They pop up every once in a while. My friends and I managed to get a grouping of 3 dod girls from a local collector who was selling them to get out of the hobby. There was an E-an, Tender E-an, and an I-ra. Don't give up hope! If I happen to see any, I'll try to remember to post here :)

@Ryuichi Sakuma 13 : You know, the neck size was pretty darn near perfect, proportions were good, and the resin wasn't bad either. I'm impressed and also worried for my wallet :XD: I put them, all up on my website, if anyone is curious in looking. I want to get them out in sunlight and add some more pictures later. Some have flash, but I think I labeled all of them that do. Also, I realized Regis's headcap had mellowed considerably, or is really dirty *_* Gonna have to do some cleaning in the future lol Link here

Sorry for the messy closet shot, but here's my happy results :) This is the Luts Real Skin Normal type 4. Proportions are great for boy heads. Girl heads look a bit small, but I put a shot of that in the gallery above too :)

    51. @Sephora oh nooo he looks great on there! Adding a couple of Luts bodies to my saving-for list, then :XD:

The floating heads will definitely have to wait for a while, I know I have a UK customs bill coming and another one due (ouch!) Managed to get my hands on an Elf The-B and a Calla so that's my arrivals until next year, I think.... There may be an Elf Code02 coming up on offer but he'll have to go on layaway for now if I go for him. I keep waffling over whether I really need him when I have a tan and a NS standard version already but... pretty :sweat
Don't buy too many dolls in 2020, I said, ending up getting 6...

    52. :oOh man, where are you all getting these DODs from? Instagram? :?

@Sephora, he looks amazing! Congrats on finding a body that works with DOD heads! :thumbup

      Ryu

    53. Calla was ebay, a couple on facebook but definitely a whole lot of luck! :sweat I check instagram but I haven’t seen many up on there.
2018/19 was pretty quiet so it evens out in the end  Two of this year’s need a full spa treatment, one had her face sanded by the previous owner to remove her faceup :o

I do intend buying dolls from other companies to round my cast out, and as soon as I do that another DoD (or doll clothes or a bill....) comes along :chomp: It’d be nice to win the lotto... might help if I played it :XD:

    54. Hmmm...maybe I should try ebay to find original DOD clothes. :evilplot:

Where do you all find clothes for your DoTs? Poor Orrell only has two outfits. :( He's on the Dream of Teen boy body 2, so he's pretty muscular.

      Ryu

    55. You may as well have a look! :D The only DoD clothes I have came with the dolls.

I tend to make my own clothes for my big dolls - the amount it would cost just for basic pants and a t-shirt I could buy another doll  I basically only buy shoes, eyes and wigs for them.
I can confirm Crobidoll R-line jeans fit the type 2 boy pretty well, and I have a couple Nine9 tops that fit because they’re huge! Type 2's legs are a little shorter than type 1, so they may fit more things where type 1 ride up really bad :XD:

I reached out to Luts and Bluefairy to ask if they had any idea what happened to DoD, and they’ve confirmed they have no idea either, which is a shame - I thought Luts might have heard something seeing as they bought out CustomHouse when they went under, but nope :huh?: the mystery continues...

    56. Oh, thank you! I'd love to see your three girls!! :love

You're not kidding! I just spent $200 on a dress for one of my 65cm. It's beautiful, but man, it took awhile for me to bite that bullet, lol. Maybe eventually I will look into sewing for myself. I just recently got back into the hobby again (my first doll was in 2007, and my last was 2017, with a lot of off and on in between) so it feels like being new all over again. So much has changed and there's so many more options than I remember. Everything's still just as expensive, though. ;)
