Dream of Doll: DoT and DoI - Part 6

Nov 11, 2015

    1. @Gintsumi - It was nice but also incredibly frustrating LOL, I need to re-learn a lot! :...(

@Ryuichi Sakuma 13 - You should!! And thank you!

@Sephora Oooo nice! E-an is still on my list. :3nodding: I feel that; life and school definitely get in the way, haha. I’ve been trying to rearrange my schedule a bit so I can squeeze in photographs and stuff and also keep on top of homework. The struggle, lol

    2. Okay so

I was really unsatisfied with the faceups I did before

So I went and figured out some better techniques and figured out where I went wrong

      And I tried again! :D

      I’m in love :love

    3. He looks great!! And welcome back!! I’m also back after a very long hiatus. I MISSED THESE FOOLS and I’m still heartbroken that DoD is no more...

I don’t think I got around to posting photos of R&G from my Hallowe’en shoot a couple weeks back. Let’s remedy that!

    4. I miss DoD too! I was shocked to find out that they were gone. From what I understand, the recasting industry was eventually their demise, since so many of their dolls were so popular to them. (Mods, if this is a bad thing to talk about, I'll delete this sentence, just let me know. :sweat)

I'm still thrilled that I was able to get not one, but two of their sculpts before they vanished. Tohma was planned, but Orrie wasn't. I saw his face on the DoD site, and it was love at first sight! (Pun not intended)! I ordered him as soon as I had the money.

This is Seguchi Tohma, my rock star businessman. He's a DoI Luke. I just love leggy boys! :love

    5. Well, DOA and pictures hate me, but hopefully pics of my boy will load. Fingers crossed....[IMG]

    6. Ahhhh....I don't understand it, honestly, it's worked in the past on those exact pics. Well, darn.

    7. @gothikgrrl Are you posting the pictures from flickr? You'll need to use the BBCode that can be found under the shared icon at the bottom right of each picture.

    8. @Ryuichi Sakuma 13 Seguchi looks great!!

Aaaa yeah I'm super sad I didn't get in on the DoIs!! I had PLANS, dammit! Now I just keep an eyeball on the Marketplace ;_; I've considered re-shelling my boys but I haven't found a company that has sculpts that grab me like DoD sculpts do. Plus I feel guilty about re-shelling Rosencrantz, in particular... Camine was the doll that got me into this hobby and I love him still, aaaaa

      @gothikgrrl I hope you're able to figure out the picture situation! I want to see pics of your boy ;_;

    9. Mukino Kuneka I have his pics up on his sales thread in the larger doll market place, and then I have a bunch on my Flickr account, too. It's under Leza Wallace and gothikgrrl72, I think. I could be more Flickr savvy, honestly LOL.

    10. Oh, thank you! I could not figure out where I'd gotten the actual URL to the pic before. I'm gonna try it again, I've managed it before but it doesn't always seem to want to cooperate. Sorry for his wonky eye in this pic, but he has a custom face up by Ticuk and I just love it and you can really see it in this one.

    11. What a handsome boy! Love the faceup!

    12. I'm really glad people are sharing their DODs here again, loving the eye candy. Just curious, how are recent fashions treating your doll? I remember when I first got my DOT(all them years ago), I kept coming across high water pants. I don't have this issue anymore but I do have to be careful with some tops. I've had a few that were advertised as for 60-62cm but were really baggy.

    13. I've been out of the hobby for a while, so I've not bought any clothes recently. But from what I've seen, what's popular now is clothes that us humans can buy at any mall. Boring!

Sure, pastels dresses and conservative shoes are nice, but none of my Crew wear such average clothes. Even Tohma, who may be the most conservative, still wears rockstar businessman chic, such as a nice suit with a rockstar tie like the one in the pic, or cool boots and a suave hat. Something to make him stand out amongst the "normals."

Tohma's bandmates, are way more wild dressers than he is!

Hmmm. Maybe I'll dress the three of them up and post a pic to both this and the Luts/CP thread that they're on. Its a thought.:wiggle

    14. @gothikgrrl He looks beautiful! <3

@Gintsumi I also haven’t tried to dress my boys since I unearthed them, and I have the same opinion as @Ryuichi Sakuma 13 that the clothing has really changed and moved to a more mainstream style that I don’t necessarily like. DollHeart is still coming through though LOL, I have a few outfits bookmarked for Hamlet and Ophelia when I eventually get them. I’ll suffer through the high water pants if it’s from DollHeart!!

    15. Try Etsy! I'm having a dress commissioned right now. I also don't like my dolls in average clothes, and prefer a more over the top gothic look, so I like being able to have something made to my specifications and etsy is a great place for that.

    16. I miss this company so much! Here's a shot I took last night of our 'newest' (we got him in Feb) DoD: a homme Ducan named Vincent.

OMG I was just thinking about this last night, how when we first got our Sha in 2006 I had to have pants specially made, because everything that was SD13 (or worse, SD) was ridicc short. I had to tuck everything into tall boots. And also the pants were often flares so pretending they were crop pants was not happening. ^^;;; I think the 55-60 cm standard for larger boys has fallen by the wayside, since longer legs and taller dolls are so much more common. I can buy generic 'sd' pants for my DoT guys these days and they fit just fine. But yesterday I was looking at stuff on ACBJD and had a moment's crisis between 'SD" and '70cm' on the sizes.

    17. OOOO I forgot about Etsy!! Aaaa actually I was checking there a while ago for doll-sized sewing notions, it’s really exciting how the market has expanded since I was last here!

@tenshi_no_korin He’s gorgeous! Congrats! Ducan is a fabulous sculpt!

    18. Thank you! ^_^ Also, adding to the etsy comment, Dreamland Doll Studio on Etsy actually HAS a DoT Sha as a model, so getting something custom from them might be an option. Welcome to my doll world Сlothes and accessorie for BJD by DreamLanddollStudio I've never ordered from them so I can't give more of a rec than "I like the pics."

Just yesterday I was talking to a doll friend saying I was having a sad panda fantasy wishing that Dollheart Fuko bags were readily available and good again, and that DoD was still in business so I could buy something for my dolls other than colorblock t-shirts and leggings. ^^; I remember ppl used to say there were no casual clothes for dolls available, but now there's nothing but casual clothes and I'm pining for some crazy goth fullsets with pointless straps and shoes no sane person would wear. ^_^

    19. Thanks so much for the heads up!!! I must check them out!

      Aaa yes I miss the ridiculous straps and the crazy shoes! I’m so glad that the shoes I do have have held up over the last number of years, I don’t know how I’d replace them at this point ;-;

    21. Ooo, will you also be sharing the Christmas moments of the couple with us too? Couples at Christmas time are so cute! Btw, I'm sure you probably answered this but where did you get Orrels wig from?

I took pic pictures of my DOT recently but they're to sexy to share here. I do plan to do something Christmas themed for him though...eventually.

    22. Oooo what are they talking about? :abambi:

    23. Perhaps. We don't put up a full-sized tree, since we have four cats. :kitty2

I got Orrell's wig at the first American Dollism, back in 2014. I wish I knew who made it, as I really would love to get more from this company. It has a "scalp" in it, so it looks pretty realistic.

Orrell and Twyla both work for the only American branch of Torchwood, Torchwood Cleveland, so its probably something related to their charges. They take care of the only pair of Star Whales in the universe, who are often mistaken for Lake Erie's Bessie, a cousin of Loch Ness's Nessie.

      Ryu

    24. @Ryuichi Sakuma 13 I see from your profile Twyla is an Iplehouse Luna. Is she an SID body? I might finally be getting an iple girl this year to join my SD crew. But I was thinking YID for size. However your two look good together. Could you take a picture of them standing next to each other?

    25. I'm sorry, but my first reaction was to laugh! Not at your request, but the idea that they are the same height. Twyla is a IH EID and Orrell is a Dream of Teen Dream head version 13 on a boy New Body 2.

      With shoes.

Twyla's on the old style EID body, and I want to say that she is 67cm tall, but I could be accidentally adding a couple of centimeters. I couldn't find any info on her height on the Iplehouse site.

I'm also stating Orrell's height from memory. If I remember correctly, the New Body 2 is 64cm tall

      Hope this helps!

    26. She’s an EID, oh wow! Lol

I liked that her arms didn’t look too dainty next to him, makes sense why. But yes, thanks for the reference. :D

      • x 1
    27. I too like that Twyla doesn't have "spaghetti arms" when compared to Orrell's New Body 2's muscular arms. But then again, IH sculpts are pretty realistic, and DoDs are more stylized. Not that I mind, since I have two DoDs. :kitty2

    28. I haven't posted photos of any of my boys for a while so have a photo of Caracal :thumbup

I discovered to my horror his clothes had started to age and get those awful yellow blemishes all over it. So for the first time since I got him all those years ago (2012) he was stripped and forced to sit around naked while I soaked his clothes to try and get the stains out :XD: It worked pretty well! Only the worst marks are still slightly visible. I also swapped out his eyes to red Oscar Doll eyes like I had always planned on doing.

It's rare to see photos of him without Janus (Mr P1) by his side, but he deserves some spotlight alone sometimes too ;)

    29. @Magical Rin He looks gorgeous!!

i really miss DoD ... kinda regretting putting off ordering code 02 from them when i had the chance >n< ... Been trying to get one secondhand for awhile now but noone seems to be letting those cuties go D:

    30. @xTempest Thanks!

Yeah, the only DoD boy I ever see pop up for sale frequently is Ducan since he was always so popular (with good reason, he's a cutie~) I always wanted to get Elf The B (with the face up version that had a bloodied cross under his eye), but alas no money at the time :...( I-Ra is also still my grail doll (she just keeps slipping through my grasp.)

I'm glad I have the 3 boys I do though (technically 4 I guess, since I have a Dream Head ver.9 floating around without a body), out of all my dolls I feel like they're aging the best. Caracal and Janus are looking pretty good for 8 year old's :XD:

    31. I also regret not ordering when I had the chance... On top of that, not getting any closure on DoD "shutting down" :(

(do keep spamming your pretty boys @Magical Rin!)

    32. Same. Basically any DoD doll is a grail doll to me. I especially regret not ordering Sha, The B, Luke, and Camino before they shut down, and DoD's one of the few companies I'm a bit fan of their smaller children. It's such a shame they closed down.

    33. Yeah, I really wish we knew what exactly happened to them :( They were (and still are) one of my favourite doll companies. So many gorgeous dolls and they were all so unique in their sculpts (clothing too!)

@FuyumiAya I was quite fond of their littles too. I always rather liked Petsha (and her outfit) and the boys were pretty precious too.

@Yumeiro Haha~ I shall! I love looking at photos of everyone's boys, we definitely need all the photo spam around here

    35. Looking at the pictures and thinking. When it comes to your DOD, do you guys have a preference certain wigs? I've been sticking with crobidoll wigs.

    36. Tohma, my Luke is wearing a blond Luts wig that I trimmed, but Orrell is wearing an unknown wig that I bought while at Dollism Plus USA in 2014.

I'm more interested in finding a wig that fit my boys' personalities than what particular company a wig may come from. But then again, I might be the exception.

      Ryu

    37. I know they have been gone a long time now, but anyone think DOD will ever come back?

They disappeared without a notice after shipping all orders that were left, but if they came back one day all that would be forgiven. I would have been very happy if that could happen. Every now and then I think about all of their dolls that I admire. But if they did come back one day though I'd like all their sculpts to still be there too.

My first doll were "DOI Luke ver.1", got him in 2008 and still have him. Since my first doll were from DOD it makes it extra sad that they no longer exist...

    38. Was there some vague mentions about sickness and then that their "warehouse" burned down..? Or am I completely mistaken?

    39. I've never heard that before. Well that makes it a bit difficult to bring back the sculpts then if it all burned down. Tha'ts too bad, I kept hoping they would come back some day :(

    40. I don't know how true this is, but I was under the impression that "because their sculpts were so popular, when recasts came about, they couldn't handle their sculpts being bootlegged, so they decided to stop production altogether." Of course, I could be wrong.

The sad fact is that their sculpts were extremely popular. Perhaps the recasters simply undercut them out of business. :( Its really too bad, their sculpts were very different from many in the BJD world back then. I'm just happy that I was able to get two of them before they closed down.

Another old pic of a Luke, my Tohma.

    41. @manabusama Ultimately it is all just speculations, as no official word seem to have been given

@Ryuichi Sakuma 13 Yeah. But one would think that they'd be able to announce that they are closing down or something at least. It was just so abrupt

    42. I keep hoping they will come back some how. This is a company that have been difficult to let go of for me. At least I hope they drop by this thread from time to time to see how much their dolls mean to us.

I were actually just about to watch Gravitation again before I came here XD. It's been ages since I watched it last time! That's a nice sculpt you choose for Tohma :)

@Yumeiro I know they probably won't come back, but at least there only being speculations gives me a little hope. I would have loved to have a few more of their dolls but buying recasts are out of the question, and I doubt they are allowed here on DOA.

At least I have my Luke, Pitts, and Crush who I'm still trying to figure out what to do with.

    43. One can only hope that they see how much we love their dolls, @manabusama. I was kind of hoping to be able to get at least one other DoT. Well, I have Orrell, who's a Dream head version 13. I can't even remember what the other DoT I wanted was....

Here is an old pic of Orrell that I found while rediscovering my old Photobucket pics. I'm grateful that his seller also sent me this Mr. P fullset outfit. He still only has two outfits, but I have my eyes open for more DoD clothes. :3nodding:

I remember falling in love with on of the dream heads, but I had forgotten it. I tried googling DoD dream heads 1-13, but I could never figure it out. I can't really find a total image archive of DoD products.
I know I love The B, though, so I wonder if it was some sort of head derivative of him.

    45. I think that was what happened to April Story before they switched to a new owner, and not DOD? As far as I remember, they just kind of disappeared without any official announcement.

    46. Orrell fit that out fit so well :) I don't own any DOD outfits anymore but that's ok I really love the outfits that Alice's Collections sell. I really love Gravitation, have the anime and OVA. I don't have the manga though as I don't know if I should spend money on books that is difficult for me to read. My eyesight is not the best. I read my comics on my computer where I can zoom in and out.

My Luke will stay as Noah because I'm so used to him that way, but I wish there were some more Gravitation figure collectibles out there. All I find is Kumagoro plushies.

Yeah I noticed they were just gone oneday when I tried to visit their site. That were a complete surprize to me.

    47. Hey guys~ It's nice to see this thread has some activity, everyone's dolls look amazing. ;;

After 14 years of wanting (and a lot of regret after DOD vanished), I finally got a DOD and my favorite sculpt of theirs, Homme Ducan. He's so pretty and I love him. No name yet, but pretty sure he's keeping this wig since I think it looks nice with his faceup. But not the eyes cause they're technically too small, think I'll have to make him some since I tend to prefer smaller irises. They work for now though lol
      [IMG]

      @FuyumiAya
Have you seen the pictures at this link? (pretty sure it was posted around the time DOD poofed, but I've been reading through a lot of threads lol) I believe it has all of the dream heads, as well as My Valentine heads.

      • x 3
    48. You are a saint! I knew I wasn't crazy! "Dream Head 12" rang in my ears very clearly, and I knew it looked similar to one of their other heads, and I thought it was The-B. Looks like my instincts were right all along! Honestly, I don't even see a difference between the head sculpts at all. Was the "Dream Head" category just a way to grab heads separately? The-B's head is certainly a dream head of mine.

    49. @LupusDarkmoon Congrats on getting your boy! I adore that wig colour, it suits him so well. Can I ask what brand it is? I don't think I've come across a colour like that before.

Also thanks for the link to those pictures. I kind of wish I hadn't looked because now I want to track down a Dream Head 13 :doh

@FuyumiAya I believe the Dream Heads were the equivalent of event heads (?) I know I got my Dream Head 9 as some kind of bonus when I ordered Caracal and Mr P1 together. Does anyone else have a better idea about why/when they were released? It's been so long that I honestly can't remember anymore :sweat

Speaking of my Dream Head, I really should show him here but he's still got no eyelashes or proper eyes. I'm trying not to buy from overseas at the moment due to all the postage delays courtesy of COVID-19 (I don't want to be waiting over a month for some eyelashes to get here) and do you think I can find any appropriate white eyelashes in Australia? Nope :sigh Might have to just suck it up and endure the wait...

    50. @FuyumiAya
I'm glad I found that link. It was nice seeing all those pictures ;; Oh wow, they are super similar. It looks like there are slight differences, but they could definitely be mistaken for one another. I hope you're able to get either (or both) one day.

      @Magical Rin
Thank you so much! <3 That wig reminds me of ice cream and I love it lol. I honestly have no idea what brand it is. I don't remember if the person I got it from said... (I've had it for years. If I do find the info I'll let you know, though)

I was so happy to find that link lol. It's not a complete collection of the pictures, but it has the most I've been able to find anywhere. Dream Head 13 is really cute, too! I looked at all of them and there are so many I don't remember and was like "I wouldn't mind having one of you" XD
I wish I could find pictures of the different faceup styles, though. Most of the ones in the photo reference thread are broken (or photobucket blurred them) and I can't find any company pictures of them... (I think my Ducan may have the goth faceup? His eyebrows and lashes are different from the default. Unless they changed to that style on the newer Ducans default, he's on the version 2 body with the double jointed elbows and thigh joints)

Can you find paintbrushes with white bristles? You might be able to make lashes out of that. I'd suggest human lashes, but I don't think I've ever seen anything but black/brown outside of Halloween...

    51. Did someone say "Dream head 13?" That's exactly what Orrell is!

I have to admit, it was the first Dream head that I felt I had to get! It was love at first sight. :love

Congrats @LupusDarkmoon on finally getting your Ducan! I know what its like to want a doll for a very long time. I'm waiting for Yahoo!Japan to ship me an (off topic for this thread) doll, currently residing in my signature. ;) And your boy's wig is pretty epic!

I'm glad that you sent that link, I was finally able to put a "name" to the outfit that I've wanted for Orrell for so very long! Thank you. I'm still going to keep my eyes open for it, even if the chance of finding one is pretty slim. I think I'll post a WTB thread for it. Maybe I'll post WTB threads for quite a few of the DoT boy outfits. :aninja::chomp:

@Magical Rin, I'd still like to see your head, even without eyelashes and eyes.:3nodding:

Yeah, COVID-19 has my OFT boy waiting to be shipped. bleah.

    52. @LupusDarkmoon You're welcome! :whee:

Yep, that was basically me looking at all the sculpts. More dolls to add to the 'probably never going to happen' list :'( I would say your Ducan looks like he as the goth faceup too, it's not his default that's for certain and to my knowledge I don't think DOD ever changed it. I can't remember what the other face up options were, I know gore was definitely another (if you wanted scars, etc.) I vaguely remember something about one being pink hues and maybe another for peach/orange hues??

The paintbrush idea is definitely something to consider, the white lashes I have been able to find online within Aus are all too thick (as you say because they're intended to be dramatic for Halloween or fancy dress, etc.)

@Ryuichi Sakuma 13 omg, how did I not notice that your boy was a dream head 13!? Well, it's the first time I've actually seen a name to the head so that's probably why, haha~:sweat I think for me what really drew me to him is the little teeth, they struck me as being rather unique. I love his eye shape too.

I'll have to take some pics of my boy, he's floating around in my doll cabinet waiting for me to find a suitable body. He's been in storage for years so his resin is still that rather pink colour which is making it a bit awkward to find the right resin match.

Hopefully your OFT boy won't be held up for too long. I'm waiting on an OFT boy myself, but he's only coming from the US (problem is he's been stuck in San Francisco custom clearance for the past 4 days:doh) Guess all the postal systems are running a bit slow.

    53. That is the perfect wig for him, it goes so well with his faceup and eye color :) I'm glad you managed to get your favourite DOD sculpt. I were so busy with other BJD brands that I missed my chance at getting more of their dolls. I have the same regret when it comes to the Luts CP Delfs.

I miss having a Sha, well I do have a blank Sha head on a bust but it's so yellowed now it would be difficult to find a body. Been using it to display a flower hat and a choker that I really like. But I wish I could get the head a DOT boy body, the regular non muscular version.

I have a weakness for dolls that show some teeth, Orrell look so cute with his little teeth showing :chibi

Thank you! It's been very exciting having him home. Now there are three DODs in the house and one of them is mine XD
I hope your newcomer arrives soon, safe and sound!

DOD outfits are so pretty and I hope you're able to find the one you want. I'd love to have some, too. (was kind of sad that the DOT hands didn't want to fit through the sleeves of an HZ coat I have...but also didn't want to take his hands off lol)

Orrell is so pretty! Also love the outfit he's wearing. :D

      @Magical Rin
Same. That list if very long for me and it's kinda sad lol. I rather like that his faceup probably isn't default. There are a lot of default Ducans out there (of course they're all lovely). The faceup styles were Lovely (pink), Cutie (peach), Natural (brown), Goth (dark/black), and Gore (black/red), plus the defaults. It's actually pretty cool imo that DOD offered so many different styles of faceup. Wish more companies did. o:

I wish it were easier to find natural looking lashes in "unnatural" colors. I hope you're able to figure out something for his lashes!

      @manabusama
Thank you so much! I absolutely adore him ;; He probably won't keep those eyes (there's a lot of gapping), but I might try to make/find him some in a similar color...he does look good in them lol. I was the same way. Concentrated on other dolls and ended up missing out on a lot I really liked. (CP Delfs included for me too! ;; )

I hope you're able to find your Sha a body one day. It's great that he's still getting use, though, even if it's just as a bust and modeling things. ^^

    55. This link is superb!! Thank's a lot!
I'm just a DOC owner who happend to pass by, but this link included every thing I'm looking for.:love

    56. Thank you @LupusDarkmoon. :XD: I think Orrell's pretty too, that's why I fell in love with the head. His teeth are so cute! He's actually wearing this outfit , minus the hat, which was on his girlfriend's lap when I took the pic.

I too wish that more companies offered different faceup styles. Its too bad that they don't, but then again, I suppose that's why faceup artists are so popular, you can get the faceup you want/imagine/need. :3nodding:

I'm hoping that someone could answer this question. Does anyone have the official measurements for a DoT and/or a DoI? I'd like to start looking for clothes for Orrell, and Tohma could always use something new.

And speaking of Tohma, here's another old one I found of him. Oh man, I moved from that apartment nearly 6 years ago!

    57. If I find a body I guess I could send the head and body to get de-yellowed a bit. At least Luts is still around even thouh we can't buy the old Delfs anymore.

    58. @manabusama, I see the old Delfs pop up for sale every now and then. The same with DOTs and DOIs. :3nodding:

There is a thread that tells you how to de-zombiefy yellowed resin, if you are so inclined to do so yourself. I also heard that cleaning with Oxy-clean can de-yellow a doll, but I'd go to youtube to find videos on how to do that.

Personally, I don't mind if my dolls turn a little yellow. Most of my dolls are supposed to be Japanese, so its okay with me.

    59. Yes I noticed there are some now but at the moment I feel I should not order too much because of how things are around the world. It have happened that packages have come to the wrong post office and I don't want to have to use the subway.

The only doll I'll allow myself to order is Kid Delf Rika once I've saved up for her. I only save up for her at the moment because I need a little something to cheer my self up with because of the virus. I'm delaing with depression because of some other things and at the same time there's the virus. I did find a DOT boy on the old body for sale but now's not the time. Rika is an exemption because I need a little something to look forward to.

And I think for now I'll be fine with just having my Sha on that bust.

I don't mind a little yellowing either but sometimes there's a style and faceup that would look better if the resin weren't so yellowed.
