Dream of Doll: DoT and DoI - Part 6

Nov 11, 2015

    1. @bellabellababy
Can’t confirm any of the following as I’ve not seen them in person but I have heard and seen phots of hybrids including Angel of Dream, Mirodoll, and AS, all the normal skin-pink option. I’ve also heard some can (have?) contacted like Resinsoul or similar companies that offers resin matching services and done that.

I don’t know if anyone had found anything that matches 100% but some do seem to get close enough to be passable.

    2. Awesome, thanks so much for the info! I've been looking around and the only one I saw was the AOD hybrids. Now I have more to work with c:

    3. I'm leery of Mirodoll in general after reading that notice on here. Angel of Dream had a Lily doll I wanted yearrrrs ago... but by the time I could afford her...they'd "remade" her face and I just didn't care for it

    4. Good point. I do believe they have okayed some of the Mirodoll bodies. Might need to dig further into that to make sure everything is on the up and up.

I have seen pictures of DoD head on AoD bodies and the match was a fairly good one. I think there are photos here on doa or there used to be, not sure if they got caught in the photobucket purge or not.

    5. My friends have a Lahoo head, an Angell Studio girl and a Crobidoll boy. The head was from 2014 and didn't match well with the AS pink skin but nearly perfect with the Crobidoll boy. He was made this March and the girl was made in 9/2017 (if I remember right).

      I hope this help :3

    6. I have been going through bodies and I really like the AS bodies but the normal pink skins they have seem way too pink. I was thinking maybe their solid white or solid butter would be a good match but Its so hard to tell. If anyone has seen those colors compared to later DOD resin please let me know!

I'll definitely look into Crobidoll now too, thanks for the help!

    7. DoD resin may start pink but it changes to a creamy color as it ages. My boy from 2009 isn't pink at all anymore. My newer boy isn't as pink either. Back when my first boy was pretty new, he had AS jointed hands in the normal pink. they matched at first but yellowed differently. the AS pink yellowed very fast and quickly became a horrible match. I don't know anything of crobi to offer any advice. all resin changes differently so even if it matches now, it won't later. you could do a lighter color body and blush to match as the head ages. or find a darker body and blush the head. or there is always the option of dying the parts.

    8. My boy is on the newer side (Jan 2015) so he really hasn't changed color much at all. I had heard that there is a difference between their older resin and newer one. It's probably important to note that. He's very white, as he's aged he's gotten a little more of a pinky yellow hue to him comapred to his extra hands that stay in his box but the difference is very small. Without a faceup the boy is practically glowing.

But as others have said I can change his skin tone a bit with a faceup to match. In a perfect world whatever body I get won't yellow and lose its match too quickly but I don't really count on that.

    9. Wow, great photos. You certainly have a good eye for composition and depth of field. From a distance, it looks like a photo-shoot of a real person :thumbup

    10. It’s been a bit, how is everyone doing? Any news or anything anyone feels like sharing?

I will say I was a lucky duck and got to bring home this handsome boy recently!!

I can happily check off DOD Kalix from my wishlist! :)

    11. I saw that Luke on ebay but the price is ridiculous.

    12. LOL, I hear ya. It’s the only thing holding me back from buying him. That price is just - ouch! Can’t justify it, so sadly I just watch the auction.

    13. O_o oh my lord.... that price makes me cringe or I'd totally go for him if I had the funds *_* always wanted that version of Luke but well... we all know how that goes now. 9 years old no matter how long he's just been sitting somewhere that's too much. The item details saying he's unbranded though. Is that just default eBay stuff... or is this person saying he has no DOD brand on his head?

Also, does anyone have a link to a DOD photo archive? I'd saved literally every pic from the site before it shut down, but for some reason I can't locate the outfit images I'm looking for.

Check out Dream of Doll on Pinterest, I find there’s many individuals who posted all manner of DoD company pictures there. Sometimes it takes a bit of digging but there’s a lot out there.

    15. Ok awesome I'll definitely check on there. :-)

Btw, didn't know if anyone saw this Tender Bee-A listing on eBay. Its faceup is quite a bit... different but main reason it's price is low is it needs a new S hook if I remember reading right.

Dream of Doll Tender Bee-A MSD 1/4 BJD | eBay

Now if only a DOT Type 2 body would pop up :eusa_pray

    16. Another question. Does anyone know if Luts Delf clothing will fit DOD DOT boys and girls, and vice versa?

    17. @WinterSong I just quickly compared measurements for the boys/girls and it looks like it could be pretty hit or miss, the DOT boys and girls seem to have slightly wider chests and shoulders for the most part. Maybe someone with both could be of more assistance?

    18. :kitty1 I have both except for the male DOT size... you know I'm half asleep when I don't think to just try it on the dolls o_o;;; I have a male DOT outfit and a male Delf XD if the DOT sizing is slightly wider I won't have to worry about overstretching anything.

Would be at a loss on Delf for fitting DOT boys though :-( one day maybe

    19. @WinterSong Yay! Crisis averted :XD: we all have our 'omg why didn't I think of that first' moments. You should have no problems if your Delf boys are the ones scoring new DOT clothes, haha~

    20. @Magical Rin Lol right? Yea my Delf guy has two new outfits since I never got around to getting a DOT guy before they closed. Technically 3 outfits since one was I think a two outfit set

    21. Sooooo I'm needing some suggestions here. My E-an is on the older end now and needs to be restrung. The question is.... what company has elastic cord similar to the kind that DOD was selling for that same purpose? Really wish the company was still around....

    22. They dont' use any special elastic, just regular round. You can get it from any company that sells stringing supplies. Or offline at a craft store like Joanns.

    23. O_O Okie doke that makes it easier.

And for a very bizarre update on DOD.... I'm not sure if this is an improvement or downgrade of their status, but on a whim I tried to go to the site again..... I didn't get the page saying "Forbidden" yada yada.... Instead now I just get a notice from Safari saying "Safari cannot open the page because the server cannot be found." So I'm not sure if it's a good thing meaning site might be down being worked on or it's officially officially over.

    25. Cleaning question. One of my dolls has a stain around her head from the wig she had on. I've read the forum suggesting a Magic Eraser with water, and the other option of rubbing alcohol with cleaning pads, but wasn't sure which is safer to use on the doll's head

    26. Try a magic eraser with water first. That will typically get most anything off. rubbing alcohol can damage resin. I use Winston & Newton brush cleaner to clean my dolls. No matter what you use, make sure to clean off well with soap and water after.

    27. Do I need to rinse with soap and water after using Magic Eraser? I'm so new to this, had the dolls but never really had to clean them much before. Lightly scrubbing with the eraser won't scratch the doll?

    28. The magic eraser will make some dust so you will want to rinse it off. If you just use the eraser and water, you won't need to use soap to clean. Only if you use other chemicals (like the alcohol).

    29. I know I haven't posted in this thread in forever (I moved recently and so a lot of things were put on hold) but saw the subject of resin matches going on in here and I'm actually getting a Xagadoll body from a friend as a potential match for my U-i head so I'll let you all know how that goes. Though it may still be a few months before I have it in my hands. It's from a few years back but my friend said it's pretty similar to the DODs she has though none are quite the same years a my head. So we shall see! But I did check out the resin tones of the current Xaga dolls at my local doll shop and they were pretty damn close in matching so could always get one of theirs if this doesn't work (I only want her specific body because it's got parts for wings I already got in a split with her previously lol).

    30. Been a bit out of playing with my dolls because of... renovations but recently I got my T.Sha head back from the face up artists and put him back together.

    32. @Anima_Sol Thanks, it's a corner in the closet lol.

Does anyone know what DOD's colors are? I was looking at a logo online and it was black and silver but I have different colors in my head... I wanted to make a flag for my BJDs.

    33. Their doll boxes were silver and the pillows were light purple.

    34. I always associated them with that light purple color they used a lot on the site. At least I think that's what it was? Also the old little icons we used to use in our signature for them were all purple-based.

    35. I don't have my boxes anymore (regrets...) but I remember purple and pink. My two later orders came in a brown box with a short silver lid.

    36. My lovebirds. Snuggled against each other. Warmer together.

    37. They no longer have them and when I asked during the disappearance of DOD, they said they didn't know what happened to the company.

    38. They definitely have a Kalix for sale at the shop right now, I just saw him a few hours ago.
But yeah, I don't know if this is of any help to anyone, because you have to be in Tokyo to buy him, of course.

Just wanted to let people here know.

    39. Some of Dolks inventory is not up to date. When I bought that to their attention they said it was something they would work on. Even if it's "in stock" on their site they might not have it. They did the same with items from other companies that are still running.

    40. I don't mean they have him on their website :sweat
I went to their physical store in Akihabara, and there he was. Was 91,000 yen (+ tax), I think.

    41. Sounds like a reason to check airfare...well after Trami blows over.

    42. Isaac tried on a new role. It suits him... as usual

    43. I love the ears and taillll!! Did you make them or buy them somewhere? :aheartbea

    44. They are sooo cute!! You did a great job!

    45. Thank you very much)) I tried to make them as good looking as possible.

    46. Looking good!

    47. @Isabel
      Thanks) ready for Halloween!

    48. Yup! My friend who was there only a few weeks ago took a photo of said doll so I can also confirm he is there for sale. I think that's the only one they have though. Still, was nice to see a DOD again. T_T

    49. Another year is almost gone and I am going to try ending it by spoiling my DOT boy (aka spoiling myself) with some DOD themed items, just small items as I don't have the space to do much else. Anyone else with end of the years plans for their DOD?

    50. Mine is to make at least one pair of (reasonably fitting) jeans - there's a distinct lack of non-leggings legwear with my boys! I should maybe buy more shoes, too. Can never have enough :XD:

    51. My DOI Luke is finally coming home, after getting a new face up(that he’s been waiting for for 5 years xD; ). So that’s good news for the new year! Hopefully he’ll be home before 2019 rolls in, since he’s supposed to be shipped back to me sometime this week. :aheartbea

    52. I still have to get another elastic cord to restring my E-an as she still hasn’t been restrung yet, and when I did get elastic before DOD closed up I only got one cord not knowing it took 2. :doh

    53. Try Luts' elastic cord. I've been away from the BJD community for a bit, but it was the sturdiest around. Hopefully it still is.

    54. *kicks down the door*

      HI GUYS

I got back into the hobby and to celebrate I wanted to give my boys new faces!

I'm not super happy with them but I've also not done a faceup in seven years so :')

If the weather forecast holds maybe I'll try again next weekend.

    55. *clutch dolls*
What happen to knocking?! And you really are jumping back in. Seven years is a long time, how did it feel to hold their tiny heads and paint delicate details?

    56. So cool to see this thread active again! Makes me want to take new pics of Tohma (DOI) and Orrell (DOT) and post them!

      Nice faceups, btw!

      Ryu

    57. I just acquired a DOT E-an from a FB group. I'd love to get some pictures of my DODs :) I kinda fell off the BJD wagon a couple years ago, but I'm definitely getting back into the hobby. Life and school, you know :/
