Dragon Age, anyone?

Apr 26, 2016

    1. Expect spoilers here! :wiggle

I am currently in my second play through of Dragon Age Inquisition, and wondered if there are any other DA fans here? What were your Warden, Hawke, and Inquisitor like? Do you have any screenshots to share? Any favorite moments? Any specific hopes for Dragon Age 4 (assuming we get it)?

(You'll have to excuse my girlish enthusiasm a bit. I just got my first proper gaming laptop last October, so I'm still in the fangirl phase over games that have been out for a while.)

Going against popular opinion here, Origins was actually my least favorite of the DA games. I LOVED the atmosphere of it, and the epic battles were a lot of fun, but I got so sick of the mage tower and deep roads portions of the game that I had to force myself to play long enough to get through them.

DA2 was a fun, quick romp, and Hawke has been my favorite PC so far. Once again going against popular opinion, I enjoyed the smaller, more personal scope of the story, the rise of the I-just-want-to-help-my-family-so-please-leave-me-alone refugee turned accidental hero.

Also, she had a rivalry romance with Fenris, which I found quite appealing to play (probably because I wouldn't want a relationship like that in real life!)

I'm finding Inquisition to have the most replay value. My first playthrough was a female human mage, and I did practically every tiny little side quest, other than the mosaic tiles, of which I missed a few and didn't feel like going back to look for. I was so overpowered by the end battle that it only took a few minutes to beat. The current playthrough is with a male elf warrior (male so he could romance Dorian :|), and I am picking and choosing only side quests I enjoyed, but I think he is going to end up being overpowered too. He is at level 17, and I have yet to even touch several of the locations.

      Now, for speculation!
First, check out this teeny tiny spoiler from Gamespot: Dragon Age Producer Teases Something New, as BioWare Livestreams a Nesting Goose

Spoiler alert!! I feel like the wolf indicates that DA4 will indeed have us battling Solas, or maybe working for him? How cool would it be if the PC of DA4 were a double agent? One of those elves from Trespasser, perhaps, finds out what Solas is really up to and decides he needs to be stopped, and agrees to spy on him for the Inquisition? There could be war table-like missions that could either help or hurt Solas and the Inquisition, with you having at times to make decisions that end up hurting those you truly view as allies. I'd love a cameo by the Inquisitor, kind of like Hawke had in DAI.

      So...what do you think? :D

    2. Ohmygosh, it's been a while since I played DA:I, but I played it many, many times. SO many times. From easy to the most difficult with every class combo (I was very sick last year for a prolonged period of time so I had a lot of time on my hands). I am a huge fan of DA:O and I even played the hell out of DA2, as both male and female Hawke. Hawke is a personal favorite of mine, I was thrilled when he/she showed up in Inquisition, and I bawled like a baby the first time I sacrificed him/her.

I am enthralled with Dorian, he's probably the one I romanced the most through all of my playthroughs. His story spoke to me the most, whether I played male or female and I could never bring myself to make him an enemy, as silly as that sounds.

Feel no shame for this! Althought it got seriously repetitive at times the companions were the best. Seriously, I will forever be upset about not being able to romance Varrick! Also, I romanced Fenris a lot. Yeah.

Lemme see if I can find a screenshot of my hottest Inquisitor: [IMG]
Also, I'm seriously thinking about making one of my boys Hawke for a while. I have to get better at sewing but it's possible.

Your Inquisitors are both gorgeous, btw. Your post brought back a lot of feelings I hadn't thought about in a while, like these games helped me get through surgeries and a lot of downtime. They will alway be in my heart and I pray they make another near as good as DA:I was. I can't think of a better all around game ever made.

    3. UHHHH HELLO this thread calls to me, I'm actually turning my YOSD into Kieran, my MSD into my Warden, Marek, and have a head for my Inquisitor and plans for my Hawke!! I don't have access to good screenshots rn but I'll find some once I have a chance!

    4. Oh man... No screenshots here, because I was playing on console, just creating a save file on a sibling's copy of the game, but I was in deep for a while.

My Inquisitor was Val, which I recall was short for something long and elvish-sounding, but I don't remember exactly what. He was a pro-Mage Dalish Rogue, with poor depth perception (okay, that was really my fault at the start, but I made a joke about it and then it became part of his character to just... walk into things or swing at the empty air a foot away from an angry bear), and a bad habit of falling for the straight/unromanceable boys.

I mean, I-the-player totally loved Dorian more than anyone ever, but a friend had me 'shipping him with Bull before I even played the game, so I felt like I couldn't have my Inquisitor go after either of them.

    5. My inquisitor, Melana (also a pro Mage Dalish rogue) got the trait of having a screwed-up left arm (long before trespasser came out) because I kept getting a glitch where her avatar's left arm would be stuck in the T position, but her right would move like it should.....

Also, I romanced solas. My life is in tears.

      • x 2
    6. Heh, my Warden has been my avatar here for 6 years, so I'm definitely a Dragon Age fan! I have a pile of the figures sitting on my desk as well.

I enjoyed Inquisition enough to play it through four times (I think I've stalled out on number five - a nightmare run with a Qunari mage), but loved both Origins and DA2 (Snarky Hawke may be my favourite non-fixed player character of all time).

      • x 1
    7. Eyyyyy is your warden an elven mage?? I ask bc mine is and I don't see a lot of Surana wardens.

    8. OMG I'm wearing my Cullen shirt right now!! (super nerd alert)

I just started the series last year and fell in love immediately... and every time I beat the games I get sad. But I love the characters. I love the stories. I just love everything about Dragon Age!

And all 3 of my characters are mages... DA:O and DA:I I'm an elf. I haven't tried the other classes but I'm thinking I will next go round! :D

    9. Ahh, romancing Solas, I've heard, is pain.

Then again, whatever you do, any Lavellan's life is pain, really. Anyone who tells you otherwise is trying to sell you something.

      • x 1
    10. Or they're Orlesian.

      • x 3
    11. Yes, agreed it was very hurtful, but nothing broke me more than romancing Alistair as an elf in Origins...I still get weepy when I think back on that. He. Broke. Me.

      • x 3
    12. My warden is....a huge dick lol. All his decisions save one followed a typical pro-Mage pro elf 'good' but he's actually a terrible person.

      • x 1
    13. I've played all three with expansions! Origins was my jam and I was slightly disappointed in how DA2 felt compared to Origins, but I still really liked it. Now, Inquisition is my one true love. Iron Bull, specifically. And Cassandra. And Varric. And Dorian. And Sera.... Okay, all of the characters. Honestly, I think Bioware does such wonderful character building, I couldn't not play the sequels. I like to be a rogue first, but I always get around to being all of the characters.

I wish I had screenshots to share! I'm a huge fangirl. I actually met my boyfriend through a mutual friend who was mad that neither of us would stop talking to him about DA:I when the trailer released, so he forced us to talk to each other about it. Now we've been together for 3 years and have marriage in mind :)

      • x 1
    14. Oh my, so many enthusiastic comments! I'm so glad this hasn't turned into the BioWare-bashing that I typically see elsewhere. :D What do you all hope to see in DA4?

@Joy LaBelle Thank you! Your inquisitor is quite attractive as well. Thanks for the screenshot :D And I see you have a mod to replace the goofy looking Orlesian palace outfit? Dorian fans must see this YouTube video and this one. Varric is one of my favorites as well! I was hoping he would be a romantic interest in DAI, but both my Hawke and my first inquisitor have had to settle for BFF. Maybe in DA4 he'll finally get over Bianca? ;)

Also...what happens romancing Alistair as an elf in Origins? Is it just if he becomes king? My elf warden started romancing him, but switched to Zevran as soon as he came on board, so I feel like I'm missing something full of feels here!

@Psiiconic I have vague plans of making a BJD of my Hawke as well, and even have a sculpt tentatively picked, but the thought of making all that armor is really overwhelming. I wouldn't even know where to begin! My first inquisitor would have romanced Solas had she been an elf, but now, knowing what's to come, my second inquisitor can't NOT have somewhat of an antagonistic relationship with him. I can't even bear to have him in the party when out adventuring, honestly, although in some locations, the snark is worth it.

The idea of a jerk playthrough is appealing, especially for Origins where there are several opportunities to really screw over your companions. Is that how your warden was, or did you mostly pick the rudest dialogue options?

@Anneko My first play-through, I found out about the Dorian and Bull thing when I was nearly ready to begin the final main quest, so I grabbed Dorian, Bull, and...Cole, I think...and went to putter around the Hinterlands gathing herbs until enough banter had triggered for them to be in a relationship. Now, romancing Dorian, I don't feel too bad for Bull because he seems happy either way, but I do feel bad that Cullen (my first inquisitor's love interest) ends up alone. :sweat

@Hervoyel What kind of Dragon Age figures do you have? Are they BJDs?

@whitfit There are Cullen shirts?? I think mage is my favorite way to play DAI, though I still have to give rogue a fair shot. I love the mage sound effects with headphones on, and of course the mage vs. templar RP elements. I liked having my mage be flirtatious-yet-defensive with Cullen in the beginning, and watching him get all flustered about it.

@PuffsxPlus Aw, a real life romance made possible by video games! :XD: Very sweet! I agree that the characters and companion interactions are a definite strength of these games. I think the lack of those things are why I just can't make myself like Skyrim and why I'm having a bit of a hard time getting into Witcher 3 (though it's got an interesting story, for sure).

    15. No, he does look a little pointy-eared from this angle, but he's an Amell.

Heh, I have more than one kind (although not everything that's out there!) They're not BJDs (although my Iplehouse Aaron sometimes gets to dress as my Warden), but they're just about every other kind of figure/doll you can imagine!

I have the four minimates (Alistair, Varric, Morrigan and Leliana):

Four of the 20 Titan mini-figures (Anders, Fenris, Isabela & Morrigan):

And the ThreeZero Alistair figure (he's about MSD-sized):
Weirdly they based him on the comics version rather than the game one, but I loved the comics so I don't mind. I hope he sells well enough that they make more of them - I'd love to see more characters done like this.

    16. Okay, those videos were amazing. That guy looked just like him!
Ugh, he better get over Bianca, I know I did...
Also, if you romance Alistair as an elf and you make him king he dumps you. I heard you can (if you set it up right) become his mistress or something (not my bag, screw you, Alistair) if he asks you but he will not stay with you. It was heartbreaking, I was so into the romance and he just dumps you for basically racism. I'm so over him...so, so over him now.

    17. @Hervoyel Oh my god, there's a Fenris figure?? Now I must find one. Fenris is one of my favorites! You've got an awesome collection!

@Joy LaBelle That jerk! Now I don't feel at all bad that my Warden screwed him over in the end. She bullied him into having Morrigan's baby so that my Warden could live happily ever after with Zevran, which essentially ends the Warden-Alistair friendship. Come to think, I shouldn't be surprised that he's kind of a jerk. He doesn't seem like that great of a guy in his DAI cameo either.

    18. More bi romance options is always what I hope for... some flexibility. I often play through a game with a male character the first time through, and I usually want to romance one of the guys with him and don't have that option. I do love Bioware's characters, but sometimes the romance options feel limited to me.

As for the plot in the next game... I don't know what I hope for, really. I look forward to finding out what it's all about.

    19. I might get some scandalized replies for this, but...my warden intentionally and with full knowledge, had Alistair marry anora so he could keep Alistair alive and take Loghain as a warden at the same time.

"Conniving little shit" doesn't even begin to describe him.

Also @Hervoyel hes still a rarity-a male Amell!

      • x 1
    20. I've actually just recently started playing Dragon Age: Origins (seriously why did it take me so long to play this game???), and I am deeply enamoured with Alistair. Seriously. *happy sigh*
I have DA2 & DA:I in their wrappers waiting for me to finish Origins, so I am sure I will have more to gush about when I've played those hehe
Also I understand that if you're a mage, elf or otherwise and want to stay with Alistair the best way is not to make him King XD

      • x 1
    21. @Zardi no not exactly.....my warden would best be described by calling him a Slytherin. He took every dialogue option and action that directly benefitted him and didn't care at all about much beyond that. He's a very cunning and persuasive character (though he does have friends and all that jazz).

    22. My warden also forced Alistair to marry Anora, but killed Logain :D I don't think your warden sounds that bad, really, within the context of the game. Did Loghain make the sacrifice in your playthrough?

Oh goodness, stay far away from this thread! You'll have all sorts of plot points spoiled for you! :XD:

I see. I always had a soft spot for Slytherins (or maybe just for Snape). It can be a lot of fun to roleplay that sort of character.

    23. Heh, I usually have Alistair marry Anora as well - I always think they'll balance each other out as rulers, so I actually see that as the best choice for Ferelden! ;)

Heh, maybe so! I feel like I see more warriors than anything else from other people, but I always think the mages are the most fun to play. :)

    24. I got DA:O when it first came out, played through a bunch of times, then did the same thing with DAII. I am only on my second play through on Inquisition. Each one has their pros and cons for me. I like the dialog best in Origins, and most of the characters, I like the combat style and controls best in the DAII. Inquisition has a great open world (which makes the first two feel claustrophobic when I go back to them) but I don't love the characters as much. I still feel most attached to Alistair and Morrigan, Isabella and Fenris and in Inquisition I finally took a liking to Dorian. I wish there were more personal questy things for the cast.

I guess I feel like they could really distill the best points of all three and make the franchise even better. Crossing fingers they make DAIV epic! I had read someplace it is supposed to be set in Tevinter? But who knows.

      • x 1
    25. @idrisfynn Tresspasser (the DLC) definitely implies that DA4 will be set in Tevinter, or at least that Tevinter will be heavily involved. Maybe that's where you saw it? On the one hand I can't wait to see the new game, but on the other hand, I really want the team to take their time so we get a really awesome game. I also wish for more companion quests. The interactions are my favorite part of the franchise.

    26. Uwaa!!! I'm so glad to see some other fans here!! I adore this entire suite of games :aheartbea Serious fangirling ahead, be warned!!

I've played all the games and all the expansions and I cannot express how much I have loved all of them in their own way and I’d be hard-pressed to choose an absolute favorite

DA:O got me started on Lark after a friend lent me the game and it was 100% downhill from there. I agree with you @Zardi, the mage tower was suuuuper annoying and really detracted from my replay value, though I have a soft spot for the deep roads, if only for the Lore (Oh god the L-O-R-E  )… plus I kind of adore the Dwarven Culture and Ogren’s class-less jokes XD Who did you Romance? (Ever lick and lampposts in winter?) Bahahahaha, sorry, I couldn’t resist, but I’m a sucker for Cheese!

I also play DA:A… anyone else played it?? I was really hopping the Architect would make an appearance in Corypheus’ storyline!!! I had suuuuuch a hard time deciding his fate TT^TT …Though I must admit I had a hard time with how the companions from Origins ported in… *cough* Ogren *cough*

I quite liked DA2 as well (it will always have a soft spot in my heart… mostly because of Fenris, who are we kidding!!) I was so happy for just the little mention of their romance in DA:I!! I’ve played this game through from start to finish more times than the other 2 (probably because of the length). I almost always end up romancing Fenris, but I did romance Anders for the feels (he was so charming in DA:A TT^TT damn you Justice!!) and Isabella once (mostly by accident actually… and just ran with it XD )

      (Darn… can’t find my screenshots!!)

BAHAHAHA @Joy LaBelle, I love that you specified that he was your hottest Inquisitor and I absolutely agree with you about Varric, such a shame!!

I’ve put almost 700 hours (697 to be exact... o_O) into DA:I, so I completely understand what you mean about replay value XD (Though to be fair, a lot of those hours have been spent on the multiplayer because I’m fortunate enough to have a friend who also play… I’m open for multiplayer too if anyone is interested ^^ We’re always looking for a third person so we can have all the classes in party XD ) I’m also a completionist, so I have a hard time leaving side quests undone  (I’m pretty bad, I only let the scouts tell me about the first requisition upon entering a new area because I want to avoid the glitch and have all my quests cleared BAHAHAHA)

This was my previous Inquisitor… I don’t seem to have any screencaps for the first 2 :/

OMG!! @PuffsxPlus I had friends who did the same thing, though I didn’t get set up, they refused to let us talk about Inquisition in their presence for a while XD

I romanced Blackwall first, then Cullen (Cully-wully was definitely my favorite, especially the rest of his story in Tresspasser :aheartbea I had to pause the game, reload my save and watch it twice!! I don’t know if I’ve ever ‘eeeee’-ed so loud before, it was complete brain meltdown XD), then I romanced Bull because who doesn’t need a little Freddy Prince Jr. in their life?!? I never pounced on the Egg though… I didn’t want to get my heart broken, sorry @Psiiconic XDDD

With short Hair for the Tresspasser playthrough… this was the Quizzie who married Cullen :aheartbea

I almost exclusively play as a female (though I did do one partial Male playthrough for the Dorian romance ;) )

I laughed when I went through my screencaps… I have no front facing pictures of him because he’s always smooching on Dorian and his magnificence!!

My current Inquisitor… Currently I’ve made her choose all the options that I wouldn’t normally (ie: siding with the Templars, Killing Hawke, drinking from the well, I also plan to have her disband the Inquisition  )

I also really quite enjoyed Descent and Jaws of Hakon (probably Descent more, again for the LORE!!! There was so much revealed and speculation is running wild, though it’s getting a bit of bad rap…) Have you played either @Zardi? Overpowering the Inquisitor really works against you in Descent for sure… it took me nearly 30 minutes to beat the first Alpha Troll at level 27 TT^TT (with Varric bitching the whole time XD Thank god for stealth!)

@Hervoyel… those Figure TT^TT I also wants the Fenris one!!

I like the hypothesis, about 4… they were not so subtle on twitter XD David Gaider is going to be my death, I was so so so sad to see him leave!! Did you disband at the end of Tresspasser? I have so many theories, it’s hard to keep them all straight!! I’d love to see Hawke return, especially if we finally get to visit Weisshaupt, and the Warden Commander too (especially because he or she was suspiciously “missing” but pointedly mentioned in this DA:I)!!! I think we may get to the heart of what created the darkspawn, or the blight actually… and I think we might find Elgar’nan sitting right in the middle of it holding his own personal ‘holy’ war against Fen’Harel!! o_O

    27. They are old games (well, the 1st is), hard to avoid spoilery stuff really XD
I tend to just try and avoid reading anything not about origins hehe

    28. I love DA!

      On Alistair:

Yes, you can be King Alistair's mistress if you "harden" him during his quest in Denerim. Do that and at the aftermath of the Landsmeet you'll be able to convince him that a king does what he wants. He won't ask you to be a mistress; such a thing isn't his character? He sees mistress as being unfair to you and to his future Queen. Mistresshood, just like marriage for the female Cousland, is something -you- still initiate no matter his feelings for you. This works for any female Warden.

If you want Alistair to stay a Warden and not be king, don't harden him! If he's hardened he'll have the courage to claim the throne. My first Warden was an elf and I, thankfully, spoiled myself before hand and avoided being dumped. ;) I let Anora keep the throne, had Alistair duel Logain, and had him stay a Warden. Then I played a human noble and became queen and lived happily ever after. XD

I don't like the changes to the interractions with the companions in the other two games. I wasn't nearly as invested in Hawke's relationships. My heart wasn't broken with Fenris. I do like how Anders seems to stay more sane as a friend than love. But Hawke is not swooft, Maker love her/him. Inquisition is better than 2 in companion interractions

The mage v templar focus wasn't fun for me. :( I like that combat as a mage improved in the second game, but the loss of healing in Inquisition is just sigh... :( I still have to finish a playthrough. I get bored with mages this and templars that.

Slytherins aren't all bad and selfish, lol! Not Slytherin's fault that the loud ones in the books have all the brains of a freshly dropped poop. XD My human nobles are quite kind and try to look for compromise. Slytherins look for the far reaching consequences. They see the web and look for the right thread to pull or nudge to their advantage or their cause's advantage. Manipulative, yes. Evil or mean, no. Snakes aren't evil or mean, they would rather find a non-violent and peaceful course of action and stay unseen. No big kerfuffles. ;)

    29. @CitrusCupcake I see :) I'm quoting you at the top of this post so you don't have to scroll through all my DAI talk below, then. What's your warden like? What is your favorite part of the game so far?

@ellipses Your first pictured Inquisitor there is very pretty, and actually looks quite a bit like your warden. Long lost twins, perhaps? XD I started to romance Alistair in Origins, but switched to Zevran as soon as he showed up. I figured my elf was a bit sick of dealing with the human's awkwardness, though she remained friends with Alistair until the end (when she rather screwed him over, forcing him to become king and have Morrigan's baby so that Warden could live happily ever after with Zevran). It is rather unfortunate for her that her misguided effort to save Alistair's life by forcing him to father Kieran also seems to have ended their friendship.

I don't think I have any screenshots of my Warden. It's fine, she was rather odd looking anyway. Origins was the first game I loaded up after buying my gaming laptop, and I was so eager to play that I didn't want to take the time to go back and make a better looking character. I took a LOT more care with my Inquisitors!

I played Awakening as well. Through DAI, I kept expecting the Architect to show up, but then, nothing! I hope he makes an appearance in DA4. He's too interesting a character to just drop like that.

I did miss having Zevran in Awakening. With all that my Warden went through to keep herself alive and available to stay with him, it's kind of a let-down that he wasn't in the story. My ported world state had a glitch, too, so that she didn't get that letter from Zevran that his love interest is supposed to receive. I'm glad they moved to the Dragon Age Keep system. While it might be time-consuming to set up, I at least didn't have any glitches as far as world state continuity. When Hawke showed up in DAI, her romance with Fenris was brought up several times, to my great satisfaction. What can I say, I guess I like tortured elves (other than Solas).

My first Inquisitor romanced Cullen -- so, tortured mage and tortured templar, rather than tortured elf -- and my current one is romancing Dorian. He is, himself, the tortured elf this time ;)

I've never done multiplayer anything, mostly for lack of opportunity, but also because I'm afraid to screw up someone else's game experience. I make liberal use of the pause button and tactical camera, and you can't do that in multiplayer, can you?

I've played Jaws of Hakkon and Trespasser. Loved both. JH has some of the most beautiful locations, I think, and Trespasser is so bittersweet. I wish it had even more character interactions! I just bought Descent a week or two ago. I took my current Inquisitor, who was only level 10 or so at the time, and his entire party got pulverized in that first set of skirmishes. He's level 18 now, I think (and has yet to set foot in Emprise du Lion or the Frostback Basin, and has barely touched two other areas -_-) so I think it's about time to try again. By the time I get to the final battle I will, once again, have an overpowered Inquisitor at the rate I'm going. I took the difficulty up to "Hard" in hopes of making this Inquisitor level more slowly, but I think he's actually levelling faster than the first one.

My first Inquisitor converted the Inquisition to the Divine's (Cassandra's) personal guard so they would have more resources. I will make this Inquisitor disband the Inquisition, both for secrecy and so that he will be more free to sneak into Tevinter to help Dorian. I'd really love for DA4 to have cameos by the Inquisitor (and Hawke, and the Warden). Or, even better, to have the Inquisitor be an advisor to the new player character, who became a double agent after realizing how devastating Fen'Harel's plans will be.

Going to Weisshaupt would be interesting, I agree. My first Inquisitor actually disbanded the Wardens, though XD That should make for some...tension.

@silverholly By changes to interactions in DA2, do you mean that you can't just go have a conversation whenever you want? I did miss that, although it didn't diminish the relationships for me. I'm a lot more attached to DA2 characters than I am to Origins ones. I hope you will be able to finish a game of Inquisition. How far have you gotten? Once you choose who to ally with, there is a lot more to the game than just mage vs. templar.

I agree with you about the Slytherins! I used to belong to a Harry Potter forum (back when HP was huge), and I kept trying to convince people that amibition does not equal evil, and that there MUST be plenty of Slytherins at Hogwarts who aren't terrible people. (Because having one quarter of your population be evil just isn't realistic.) I didn't convince many people. They didn't want to believe my Snape-isn't-actually-evil-just-you-wait-and-see theory either, but I was vindicated there :P

    30. I picked a side. I've an Inquisitor that picked Templars and one that picked Mages. Just never completed. :) I get very bored with waiting for table missions to complete and rando quest grinding. It's why I never got into MMOs. I liked the Ball but after that..boooooooorrrreeedddd. :p

    31. When I say my Warden is a Slytherin by no means do I mean he's evil. He's just not very nice when you do him wrong or his personal morals get violated. Most of his decisions do also have far reaching consequences-Spare loghain, gain valuable knowledge and skill; place King Bhelen on the throne, secure the gratitude of a powerful monarch who can and will control the lyrium he, as a mage, often requires.

On the other hand, if you're a blood mage or similar, he probably won't tolerate your existence for more than a few seconds.

    32. @Zardi
I'm loving it all really, and my Warden is a human noble warrior (I will be remaking my elven mage at some point) as I really wanted her to marry Alistair (too lovable and I have a soft spot for the voice actor hehe)
I am however terribly eager to finish and get onto the next 2 games, especially DA:I, I have a feeling that Cullen may be my next game character crush lol

    33. @Zardi... heh, I never noticed they looked so similar :sweat ...I guess I have a type XD

I forced Alistair to father Kieran every time too... I agonized, but I wanted them both to live >_< I quite like Morrigan and I would have liked to see Alistair meet Kieran in Inquisition as well!! King Alistair could have easily made an appearance at the Party in Orlais *sigh*

You're right, you can't pause in multiplayer, and some people can be a bit of a pain, but I've found most to be nice... the support characters and the banter can be somewhat amusing ^^ If you'd ever like to give it a try, send me a message, then you won't have to worry about taking your time and pausing... the gameplay is a little different though ;)

Level 18 should be good for Descent, I've never played it under level 20, but some of the gained skills would be nice in further gameplay... there's some nice weaponry down there too!! The ending is worth the toil!!

I can't wait for more speculation to come up!! They're pretty good at stringing us along, though I have the feeling it's going to be quite the long wait TT^TT There's a really interesting tumblr group that focuses on all the conspiracies in the Dragon Age Lore and they're going wild right now... they have all this documentation from in game books and images from across the games, it's so convincing!!

@CitrusCupcake I'm excited for you to play the next too games to, and I have absolutely no doubt Cullen will strike your fancy ;) Savour Origins though!!

    34. I wish I recalled any of the specific paths I chose in DA:O or DAII, but I tried to play through choosing different options every time. :sweat

I wanted to post into this thread with a link to new tumblr account I think you all would appreciate. The sculptor is making her own DA companion busts, and they are really great! I think their account has been around for a week or so now and they are already getting tons of DA fans, including David Gaider and Mark Darrah. AtM she's working on Solas, Dorian and Cullen but she has plans to make a Fenris and some others down the line: FENEDHISS SCULPTS

    35. @idrisfynn I've seen them too, they're all so super amazing, their skill is absolutely spot on!! I can only stand in awe of their work!!

    36. @ellipses
Oh I am, I'm enjoying Origins very much, I restarted because I felt I'd rushed too much and had missed alot of the smaller quests. Tumblr isn't helping though, I keep seeing piccies of DA:I in my feed heh

    37. What I wouldn't give for a DA:O remaster in Inquisition's engine.

    38. Oh wow, those are lovely - thanks for sharing the link! Those are so much nicer than the official character busts that Bioware sells!

    39. @ellipses
      *fans self*
There's some really good (insert smutty/sexy/hawt) stuff out there XD

    40. @CitrusCupcake bahahahaha... tumblr is a slippery slippery slope XD

    41. Ah yes, tumblr... The DA fandom on tumblr was a huge part of what drummed up my interest, beyond the baseline interest I show in any RPG. Not just the eye candy, but the fact that the people I knew/followed were so *passionate* about the characters and relationships, even some time after the release, and the way that new DLC brought out this flood of renewed love...

    42. @ellipses
      It is, it really is

Played a bit more yesterday, finished the mage tower & Alistair gave me the rose *internal squeeing*

    43. I have this problem with Dragon Age, that I never play the game through. I just go for the romances ^^'

    44. @Anneko I know what you mean... aside from the DLC with Inquisition, it was tumblr that prompted me to pick up the available ones for DAII... I was a little late to the show and had the GotY edition of Origins, so all my bases were covered there  There are so many artisits and ships and headcannons I adore!!

@CitrusCupcake :whee: congrats!! Chantry boys are the Bomb :chomp:

@Lanfeardk As long as you get through the story at least one, I see nothing wrong with that :wiggle

    45. I've been largely avoiding tumblr based on negatives I have heard about it (lots of drama) but you all are making me think I should check it out, at least for Dragon Age. Any recommendations for people to watch?

@Lanfeardk While I haven't done that, I can definitely understand the appeal of going through just enough of the game to experience the romances! With my current game, I've played through all of the main romance content with Dorian (other than the stuff at the end of the game and Trespasser), but I still have SO much of the game left to play! I hope in the next game, they sprinkle in more romance content (and friendship content). It doesn't need to be cutscenes...even more dialogue options to look forward to after major missions are completed would be awesome!

BTW, are you a Wheel of Time fan?

    46. People who get involved in drama on Tumblr are usually looking for drama. Stay away from the Confession BS, and keep your feed limited to people who post things you want to see. If you smell drama coming off of someone you follow, unfollow them. I have never had any issues while following that policy.

@Lanfeardk I do that too sometimes. I'll start a new game just to try out the romance, but I won't play it to the end.

    47. @Zardi Off the top of my head, I can't even remember which of my friends were so into it... and don't know if any among them still post Dragon Age stuff regularly or if they've all moved onto other things. But they did get me just browsing tags for art, where it's easy enough to avoid people starting drama by sticking to the pretty pictures and avoiding a lot of the rest.

    48. Yeah I love getting close to the characters and getting to know their stories! It's one of the best parts in rpgs I find ^^

and YES I totally am xD I love when people actually pick up on the name. Such an amazing fantasy series! So vibrant and unique :D

    49. Glad it's not just me :D It's a great game though! Sometimes I just get cought up in side-possibilities. Like stealing everything to get my own home in the Elder Scrolls games XD

    50. Honestly I've never found any drama on Tumblr in either of the fandoms I'm into right now (DA & SWTOR), but then I keep to my only little section, following people who post fanfics, gifs, images & art - life has enough drama for me, my internet time is where I go to unwind XD And if anyone on Tumblr wants to follow me (shameless self promotion), let me know and I'll give you my account name XD

      @ellipses
Heh thanks, it's too sweet, he's too sweet - and I can never not grin like a fool when Wynne talks to Alistair about where babies come from XD

    51. Wait, how on earth did I miss this thread? I am complete and utter Dragon Age trash, have been since I first picked up Origins back in college. I love this ridiculous universe and all of its brokenness and the amazing, amazing characters Bioware has given me to sigh over. I'll actually be cosplaying Dorian at the local con this year, and have done Isabela previously. Fenris is also on my list once I've leveled up my worbla skills a bit.

My biggest want for future Dragon Age releases is SOMETHING SET IN ANTIVA. I'm also really looking forward to seeing more of Tevinter in DA4, but Zevran talking about Antiva in Origins just made me desperate to see how it'd be designed, and then Josephine just drove that interest even further home.

    52. Oh goodness I'm happy that this thread exists! I'm a gigantic dragon age nerd, to the point where I commissioned Morrigan's wicked eyes and wicked hearts dress for my MSD girl! I wonder if i can dig up a picture of it somewhere...
I'm always a Dalish warden and Inquisitor, and no matter how much I try I can't stop romancing Fenris on every DA2 playthrough...

The Universe is so great and filled with so many lovable characters and I'm glad to see that there's others who feel the same <3

    53. Oh my gosh I feel the same. I want something to be set in Antiva so badly. End game hinted towards Tevinter but I don't see why we can't have both right? :D Joesphine and Zev deff piqued my Antivan interest also. I'm hoping if Antiva is in the next game then maybe Zevran can be too

    54. Thank you to everyone who commented about Tumblr. I'll give the recommendations a shot and then see what else I can find. I do love fanart :)

I wish WoT would get an HBO series like Game of Thones has. I mean, at least WoT is finished. ;) I mean, they'd need to cut out a lot of the side plots, but I think it's clear now that the general public has an appetite for lots of fantasy violence and convoluted politics, so I would think a WoT series would be successful.

I think I must be really bad at Skyrim. I tried going on a thieving spree and got arrested in short order. Open world is nice, but for me, I think Skyrim might be too open, so I start treating it like a Sims game instead of an RPG and just do goofball things instead of trying to save the world. :sweat

I would love to see Antiva as well! Do you have any Isabela cosplay pictures to show?

Yes, do dig up pictures of your Morrigan MSD! Fenris is such an awesome character. I've only played DA2 once so far, but I can't imagine romancing anyone else on future playthroughs. In your opinion, is a friendship romance or rivalry romance better? (If you've tried both, that is?)

I don't see why it can't be both. I'd love to see Zevran again. Would be fun to have him along as a temporary companion...maybe with the Warden, too, for those whose Warden is alive. Mine romanced Zevran, and I'd hate to think they didn't stay together.

I just finished Descent yesterday, and boy I wish I'd played it earlier! I was worried that it would be tedious and feel claustrophobic like the Deep Roads in Origins did, but it's quite the opposite! The story was great, especially the (possibly tragic) ending...I hope DA4 gives us a bit more information about that! And the scenery...! The design of the lyrium in the second to deepest level is perfect, because they just look like glowy lyrium trees until you learn what they actually are.

The only thing I didn't like was the lack of party banter. I took Cassandra and Varric most of the way because I find their bickering amusing, but there was nothing from them. The local dwarves didn't even comment about the "surfacer" being allowed into the Deep Roads. It was a bit of a waste, because there was really nothing for Varric to unlock and he is too squisky for the fights where we were overwhelmed by dark spawn. The poor guy died so many times. When I load a post-game save of my first inquisitor to take down there, I will make sure to pick the party for strategic reasons.

      Here are some screenshots:

My Lavellan's glowing shield matches the lyrium.

    55. @mariagesorciere I too would love to see the dress!!! Please do find the photos :whee:

@Zardi THE NUG KING!!! ...How about that ending though!!

    56. @ellipses The ending was chilling! I can't imagine that anything good happened to her. I think she was duped and has turned into one of those...already forgot what they are called (the lyrium-dwarves)...but there's lots of lore I have missed in my eagerness to actually play the game, so I could be wrong. Regardless, I'd love to see more of the deep roads, and this area in particular, in future games.

    57. I kinda, uh, stumbled into Inquisition :sweat

I have lots of friends who are really into DA, so when the games were on sale my roommate snatched up Origins and Inquisition.
We started with Inquisition since that was the one everyone was talking about right now.
Roommate lost interest very quickly, I was hooked though and kept on playing.

      I played a Trevelyan warrior called...Maxwell.
He also has the most basic face because my roommate wasn't fond of me fiddling around in the creator for hours, yet alone spending days to find a name.
However, having played with him for so long I simply couldn't stomach changing him when the mirror came around.

For some reason I totally fell in love with him though.
I commissioned art of him and his love interest (Dorian), wrote up a ton of background information, filled out questions, even wrote stories with him.
I also learned how to make gifs!
I'm still amazed how much I liked him and how much creativity he sparked in me, unfortunately that meant I did pretty much everything there was to do with Inquisition and have zero interest to go back and replay it with someone else :sorry
Trespasser made me a bit angry regarding his relationship (Dorian seemed so cold), but it was a fitting end for him.

No clue if I will ever play the other parts. I already designed my Champion and Warden, but eh.

    58. @Ara I don't think it's odd at all that you fell for your Inquisitor. I think falling for your own player character and caring what happens to them is a big part of what makes these games successful. If I had any interest in writing, I would probably be writing stories, same as you did. As it is, I settle for imagining stories in my head and vaguely planning BJD versions of my player characters (Hawke is most likely to happen, but the Inquisitors might follow eventually.) The art you had commissioned and your GIFs are awesome!

If it helps, I don't think that's coldness from Dorian in Trespasser (I haven't gotten to Trespasser yet in this playthrough, but I've seen the clips on YouTube), it's a defense mechanism. As Dorian explains when the relationship starts, in Tevinter, male/male relationships are casual and tolerated at best. The norm for him is being forced by his society to walk away from men he cares about. The Inquisitor is the first man that he can actually enjoy a serious relationship with, so when he is again forced to separate from him, he falls back on old habits. I wish Trespasser had more romance content for everyone, but a bit of party banter and ending slides (again from YouTube) make Dorian's true feelings clear, I think :) I guess I'll get a better feel for the whole romance arc once I reach the end myself.

I hope you'll give the other games a shot and enjoy them too :)
