Dolpa3 NYC co-hosted by FDQ - Discussion Thread

Dec 29, 2007

    1. Yeah, Dolpa was a couple months ago. But there will likely be another in New York next year.

    2. Irvin: Replacement Parts
FDQ will be taking care of the replacement parts for Irvin. If you have not yet received an email from Pat asking what part you need, please contact her at
      [email protected]

      Thanks,
      Am

    3. Was Irvin defective in some way?

    4. I know of 2 Irvins who had a problem with the elf ear pegs (I'm one of the two) and 2 Irvins who arrived with broken fingers. Volks will be replacing all the parts and is looking into into how this could have happened.

    5. I have a question, how much was the FCS at this dolpa for SD13 girls? I imagine it will go up for the LA Dolpa and next year's but I'd like an idea of what I have to save for next year :)

    6. I am thinking it's around $850, plus shipping and any services. The 13 boys were $900.

    7. Yay!!! :chibi Adeline's finally here!!! :D And she is sooo gorgeous!!! :love

His make up didn't come out exactly as I have requested, so I will be modifying his face up soon and adding tattoos to make him into my character. But I do love his lips and black eyeliner. His eyes actually looks a little green when it's in his head but it's supposed to have a golden color. I will get some custom eyes as soon as I get some funds hehe.

    13. Congrats on the elf Sailor_Orbit ya my girl has some zouks issue and I had to reattach a loose lash but after the bit of drama I'm enjoying her. I'll contact volks after I get some out of doll photos. Luckily I had a pair of blue droprops.

Adeline is cute and looks so different from my Ria hard to believe they are the same mold

I took a few shots I'll post in the gallery latter.

    14. Congratulations, Sailor_Orbit!!! :dance I love your boy's lips!! :love I hope he turns out exactly like you want him to be!! :)

Your Ria is sooo cute!!! :chibi She's one of the reasons why I chose the MSD F-18 head!! :aheartbea I love how stylish and adorable she is!! :love I hope she and Adeline can be friends! :daisy

I just cannot get over how gorgeous Velvet is!!! :D She's the most beautiful MSD F-06 I have ever seen!! :love I hope I can meet her at the next NY Dolpa!! :chibi

    15. I wondered what brought this thread up from the abyss . . .

      I'm glad I checked!

Cammy, Sailor Orbit, Aree - all three of your new companions are exquisite! Adeline is toothache sweet, Ria is charmingly elegant for such a young lady, and that Elf is exotic and aloof . . . . and they have each enriched my evening.

      Thank you!

~Bruce (Whose "Irvin", Felaion, had an issue with an eye - which has been replaced by VOLKS through Pat - Arigatou gozaimasu, VOLKS and Pat!)

    16. Awww, thank you so much, Bruce!!! :D You're such a great guy!! :) I'm so happy to finally have my Adeline. :love Maybe you two can meet at the next NY Dolpa!! :chibi I'd love to see pictures of Felaion!! :aheartbea

    17. Thanks Bruce. Can't wait to see photos of Felaion glad to hear Pat was able to het his eye problem fixed. I contracted volks today on Velvet's eyes. I think it should not be a problem I called them on the phone.

I took a lot of photos of Velvet and am really enjoying her I posted here.
      http://www.denofangels.com/forums/showthread.php?t=246004

I can't wait to see the rest of the FCS, Irvin, and YoSD dolls ordered at the event

    18. Thanks Bruce :) by the way are you the person who bought the heart rompers yo sd clothing in NY3?

AreeElf- what happened to the Zouks? Did they not give it to you? Congrats on your FCS though!

Cammy- Thank you and Congrats ^_^

I think once I finish him, I shall post pictures in a gallery.

    19. Sailor_Orbit: her zouks were not even. One pupil is larger than the other and one eye is lighter than the other.

This photo I think shows it best.

When I called on the phone they said just send an email about it

Cammy: Thank you. I wanted a look that was a bit more mature for her and it worked out. So I did get my wished for mini Anais

    20. ohh, so the irises are different? Like it's practically different eye sizes? For my zouks one of the pupils were off center, but when you put it in a direction it's not so bad, so I doubt they will try to redo them. There were some marbling around his legs, I wonder if it's normal. I have sent them an e-mail but they haven't replied yet. I might call them on Monday if it seems like a pressing issue.

    21. Sailor_Orbit: I tried playing with placement but it still shows. Not so noticeable by the eye but the camera notices that one eye has bubbles and In one eye one section of the iris is nearly transparent that what you see more is the white behind it.

Marbling? Marbling isn't normal for normal skin it does happen and may be more noticeable in sunlight.

    22. What is going on with zouks now days? It's at the point now I'd PREFER glass eyes...

    23. woah, those zouks are just horrible. Just soooo many bubbles... I have seen pupils off center but I haven't seen zouks with so many bubbles, and yes they are different color. It is expected that pupils would be 1mm-1.5mm off but when it's 2 or 3mm it's significantly noticeable. I haven't taken a close up photo of my zouks so I don't really notice much, but they seem pretty smooth to me except for the fact that one of them is off center and therefore more threads show up. I know in comparison to some of the zouks that is shown in angeldion, mine is pretty good. Still a little green though.

Here I tried to take a pic of the marbeling near the seam. I paid for seam line removal. There's barely any marbeling around the calves but there's quite a bit on the arms and thighs. I think it's natural that it happens, since I see some slight discoloration even in the normal skin but BARELY noticeable... Basically I am wondering if anyone sees any noticeable differences in color when they have the seam lines removed for their sunlight dolls. From faraway I don't see much difference but when you look at him up close you can see it.

it's bad artificial lighting but it can be seen in this photo.

    24. Sailor_Orbit: I don't really see a problem in your photo maybe a bit of slight tone difference but not something I'd call marbling. Have you tried using a cleaning sponge on the spot? On my sunlight dolls I don't see any difference worth fussing over. If one looks really close sometimes one can see a bit of difference but nothing I'd really note over. nothing like a difference you'd note if like you sand a tan cp/luts doll. Now that I notice a marked difference with marbling.

    25. It is hard to see, but since my Irvin has a lot of marbling I can tell what Orbit is talking about.

    26. hmm I guess marbling is a term used for uneven mixture of resin. Maybe the resin mixture is fine but it naturally does that when it gets sanded. I don't think I have that case. So maybe my doll is fine :)

    27. How noticeable is the marbling on your Irvin? I'm curious how the ebony skin is in comparison o sunlight

I can take photos of my sunlight girl's sanded joints to compare. I usually equate the word marbling with tan or french resin. It's noticeable marks where the resin isn't homogeneous and distict color differences can be seen clearly. I know volks does warn when ordering sunlight fcs and also if the dolly doctor needs to sand a sunlight doll for better posing that a color change may be noticeable.

My suntan girl Ria was ordered with sanding and she needed her inner knee joint additionally sanded at dolpa ny. The dolly doctor told me that marbling may be noticeable but I didn't notice anything worth worrying about.

    28. Yea, it's really a pain when darker skin tones does that. When you sand normal skin tone you don't see any marks. While in my sunlight skin, since they have to get everything smoothed down you can see tiny marks/nicks all over, like around his shoulders and trapezium. Inside the head, woah you can see all sorts of different tones. It makes me afraid to even use the finest sandpaper on the surface of the head. Even though i see sandpaper marks, I think it's better Volks sanded the seam lines for me. I tried a little spot with my finer sand paper and it became much lighter! of course it would do that when it's not wet sanding but still that gave me a little fright.

Yea areeelf I would like to see pictures.

    29. I'd love to order a Sunlight girl someday!!! :D I'm not sure which mold, but I've seen so many gorgeous Sunlight MSD F-18s that I might order Adeline's sister!! :chibi

I can just barely see a lighter spot in your picture, Sailor_Orbit, so I understand what you mean. :ablink: I hope that it doesn't spoil your boy for you. :( He really is gorgeous!!! :love

Awww, your Irvin is marbled, SailorLimaBean? :o I'm sorry. :( I guess it's really hard to get an even tone when it comes to the darker colors. *_* I hope you can still love him, because Irvin is so awesome!!! :D

    30. Yeah, I love my boy no matter what. I figure, hey, I have a couple imperfections myself... I'll try to get some pics of the marbleing. It's on his legs, back, and arms...but not his face! (Whew, not the money maker.)

    31. LOL, we all have our imperfections! I'm so glad that you love your boy!!! :D Thank goodness his face isn't marbled!! :aheartbea

PS- Congratulations on your little Kira!!! :dance I'm so glad you could get her!! :love

    32. lol nah, it doesn't spoil it for me. I am sure this is the most homogenous resin mixture you can get. I have big plans for him though :D :D.

    33. That's great!! :) I can't wait to see what you do with him!!! :D

    34. Question: Has anyone that ordered the extra YO hands received theirs yet? It just seems like it has been forever.

    35. Nothing here yet.
      .

    36. :...( Hope they come soon.

    37. I forgot I had even ordered anything. It HAS been really slow.

    38. When we ordered, Volks stated that they would be shipping them in mid or late October. So no worries! They're actually still on schedule. ;)

    39. did they? I didn't even remember that. I am not very smurt. :sweat

    40. I can't wait for my Yo hands to arrive!!! :D It's going to be so cute when Hana makes the peace sign!! :chibi

    41. So late, but my Irvin is finally ready to face the world :)

Modded and newly faced-up by Lady Samhainne. He really is a gorgeous boy.

      more of him here

    42. brighnasa: He's absolutely beautiful. :O Thanks for sharing the pictures! :D

I received an email from Volks that I'm not sure how to feel about. It seems a mistake was made back in June with my FCS and I wasn't charged for her seam sanding service. Volks has no emailed me informing me that they would like me to email them my cc info and pay them for the seam sanding.

I'm having really mixed feelings. On one hand I would really like to pay and just have my girl home.

On the other hand I feel like it's unfair and not something they should even ask me to do. The mistake was not mine, and I feel incredibly insecure about sending my credit card information via email. Not to mention, the Canadian dollar's value compared to the US has dropped a fair bit since Dolpa, so I would be paying even more now for the seam sanding than I would have back in June. Probably $10+ more.

Has anyone dealt with something like this with Volks before? I would really love some input and advice. I just don't have a clue what to do.

    43. I never had that problem before. I would call the store maybe do the charging over the phone instead of the email. It's much safer to do it that way. I would call to make sure, just in case thats its not a fraudulent email too just to check it out with volks. I hope this helps.

    44. That sounds odd. When Volks asks for credit cards via email, they instruct you to send it in two emails-the first half in one and the second half in another. I would call the store and explain the situation to them.

    45. brighnasa: The photos were well worth the wait. He's really spectacular

    46. Yay!!! :chibi I finally got my shipping notice for Hana's optional hands!!! :D I can't wait for them to arrive!! :dance I ordered the "peace-sign" hands, "pointing" hands, "spread-out-fingers" hands, and the "pinky-swear" hands. :) Has anyone else gotten their shipping notice? :daisy
