Dolpa3 NYC co-hosted by FDQ - Discussion Thread

Dec 29, 2007

    1. My favorite company!! *chants* AP! AP! AP! :love

...Nah, what am I thinking, it'll never happen. So instead.... BTSSB! BTSSB! BTSSB! ...doesn't have the same ring to it, does it?

Cam, when we gonna get together and have fun lolita timez with the girls(dolls)? ;)

PS- dkotobuki, when's she due? You're in NY right, will we catch a sneak peak at one of the meetups? :wiggle

    2. we need the lolita timez- dang it!

    3. I AGREE BTSSB - in NY would be very nice!
      And Kurumi ;)

    4. Okay, I had a lot going on dealing with Teejay's recovery and am obvious much more out of touch than I thought I was, but I'm so excited to hear that there's going to be another Dolpa in NYC! Are we all staying at the Gershwin again? Who would like to share a room with me? Both TreeLore and Elle have bunked with me in the past and will vouch for me I'm sure. ;) While its true that I must have coffee in order to become a human in the morning, I'm fairly harmless otherwise...honest! :D

As for which doll they'll have for us at the event...I'm wishing for a really cute Yo-Tenshi or YoSD! Also having another painting class and a different School Head available would be wonderful! Not to mention how fantastic the chance to buy items from both Volks and individuals would be as well!

      Juli DC :D

    5. I hope they do! :D I'd love to finally bring home my very own Kurumi! :chibi

Oh, I hope Angelic Pretty collaborates with Volks some day! :love It would be wonderful! :aheartbea

I can't wait to meet your first girl, dkotobuki! :D

      Never say never, naki! :thumbup

Our girls do need to meet! :daisy We'll have to set up a meetup soon! :)

Wouldn't it be wonderful? :chibi I hope it happens! :eusa_pray

    6. I'm channeling the Volks gods to bring me a School C head...

    7. Oh I do hope I can go too!! I'm (hopfuly) getting my first volks girl this weekend and i'm so excited =D I already know i'm going to want a second oneXD

    8. I would like to see them have School C heads too!
AND I would love the doll to be Kurmuni with a BtSSB or an h.naoto Outfit!

    9. I too I am praying to the Volks gods for a Schoold C head!!!!

    10. i think we all need to pray, lol. school c heads this year please!

    11. Would I be blasphemous for wanting an A/Sleeping A? ^^;;

And for wanting an SDC? XD My only Volks kidlet is in SDC, and I'd love to bring home his brother. MSD, maybe, but he'd have to be mature looking.

    12. Can't you email this company and ask them if they want to know what items you are interested in. I know when I worked conferences that it would have been nice to know what people wanted to see and buy. If they buy it then you don't have to pack it back up. Or is this a no-no.

    13. Rosebud- Last year they had polls up on the Dolpa2 NYC website about what everyone wanted. I'm assuming they'll do the same this year when they officially announce it.

    14. Hm I kinda have a noob question.

Since this is a con like atmosphere is there some kind of dealer's room or place to buy doll stuff or is it like mostly Q&A's, tutorial, classes type of thing? I've never been to any Dolpa (though NYC is like an hour away from me and I can easily go) and I'm kinda wanting to go to this one. *_*
Sorry if this has already been discussed but I didn't really see it in the thread. :sweat

    15. I wouldn't really call this a con, more of a Volks Dolls party but it is a matter of comparing what kind of conventions you have been to. There will be classes that you have to register for ahead of time, possibly by lottery, usually some Volks limited wigs and clothes FS, There has not been a separate dealer's room in NY in the past. There will be a limited edition doll (dolls?) and a lottery for the chance to purchase one of the One-offs (OOAK dolls), plus games and prizes at the dinner. most likely they will again have the full-choice system to order a doll. and a customizing contest that is held the evening of the banquet. You have to apply ahead of time to attend the dolpa and bring your confirmation with you to get in.

There was a separate "dealer's room at the LA dolpa". I don't know that this will happen in NY. it is too early for announcements on that. people tend to sell or trade at separate meetups where they are staying. - It you can go, it is a grand time! - Barb

    16. Just to clarify, Barb, there wasn't a separate dealers' ROOM in LA. Everything was held in one huge ballroom---the Volks salesroom was to our right as we entered, the Dealer area to our left. When we lined up that morning for the sales room, they had us line up for EITHER the Volks salesroom or the Dealer area. Oddly enough, I don't think anybody lined up for the Dealer area---we all hit the Volks area, bought our stuff, and then headed over to the Dealer area.
At the back of the room were the tables where the faceup classes were held, and somewhere in that room (I never saw it) was the "Dolly Doctor" who would make small repairs to dolls brought to him/her.
The one-offs were on display during the Banquet, and drawn for during that VERY long afternoon. We started at 3 and ended at 7:30. So nobody had a chance to see the one-offs before they did FCS. Also, in LA, only 17 people signed up for FCS. I think the Volks people might have been surprised! But there were so many West Coast attendees, presumably those who wanted to do an FCS had already made the trek to the Volks store in CA to do it.
BTW, did you all notice that the Special LE for the Dolpa in Tokyo during Golden Week will be Masha?
      xoooxox
      Maggie
p.s. praying for a School C too!!!!!!! And another SD16 boy!!!!!!

    17. Maggie- Just to clarify, Masha's available at Huis Ten Bosch, not the Golden Week Dolpa. As far as I know nothing's been announced for either of the upcoming dolpas yet.

    18. Hi Maggie, thanks for the info. I don't think the room at FDQ is as large as the ballroom in LA. there were several small rooms off the main, one for the doll doctor, one where we could check doll bags, luggage etc, as many checked out of their hotels before the Sunday night event. the FCS started Sunday morning, before the late afternoon/evening with the One-Offs. But I'm sure there were a lot more FCS ordered in NY as it was the first opportunity to get one in person without flying to CA and you could get sunlight skin. noticed the Masha. LA always gets more for their Volks parties than NY. I'm hoping they will offer us Yos, or BTSSB. LA basically had 4 dolls available, the 2 Jewels and the 2 Yos. NY had 1, Masha and not enough to go around. - Barb

    19. My recollection of NYC DP2 was that there were about 25 people signed up to do FCS. At the end of the afternoon when it was clear there was more time left they opened a call to anyone else who wanted to do one, and perhaps had not wanted to or been unable to queue in the AM.

There were no dealers, and other than the supply shop from Volks (mostly customizing supplies like paints etc...) no sumika shop either. The limited items (kimono, wigs, SD16 shoes) were offered by 'lotto' during the party.

I think bringing a mini sumika where people could buy wigs, shoes, outfits, etc... would be an excellent improvement over last year. It's so nice to get to see what you want before you buy it for a change. And many of us East Coasters are too far from LA to do a trip often.

    20. Ahhh okay thanks for clearing all that up everyone. Sounds like a lot fun either way. I'm going to try my best to make it to this one. :)

    21. Thank you, Kaighn !!! The more I think I know, the less I DO know. LOL!

    22. I just thought of something. :ablink: Since at the LA Dolpa SD16 Jewels Garnet and Ruby were released, I wonder if they're going to release more SD16 Jewels at this Dolpa. :daisy I'd love to see their interpretation of different gems! :)

Though I'm still rooting for a cute SD/MSD/YoSD girl and h.NAOTO/BTSSB/Angelic Pretty outfits! :thumbup

    23. I've been joking about the new SD16 Jewels Pearl and Opal since I heard of NYDP3 ;)

    24. Barb,
From what I have read, it sounds like FDQ determines how many copies of the doll are made for NY by Volks. You might try asking FDQ to request more dolls.

    25. If that really happened, you would need lots of cookies for being right. XD

    26. I think they need to come out with some Jewel boys, dangit. So many girls, and not enough boys for us boy-collectors!

    27. Wow... :o Opal and Pearl would be beautiful as dolls!! :D If you're right, we'll all have to give you a cookie! ;) Hopefully they'll serve those giant chocolate chip cookies at the dinner again! :drool

    28. Poodoo. More boys, dangit. >_<

Though I bet my mom will want after the girls. XD

    29. JEWEL BOYS!!!!! wotta great idea!!! Alex

    30. So, Jewel boys... how about 2 SD17 boys named Onyx and Topaz.

Sorry, hard to think of any boyish sounding jewel names...

Onyx could be the new 'black' skin tone same as ruby...

    31. Just checking up on the thread since I'm not keeping up with the chat, but there hasn't been any new developments since they announced it, have they? No website up, no registration, no polls just yet?

    32. No, not yet. :) We're all still waiting with baited breath! :shudder

    33. :aeyepop::drool:nosebleed That would be AMAZING!!!! I'd love for Volks to make a guy who could give Iplehouse's Aaron a run for his money! Aaron is one of my fave male dolls out!

    34. Maybe it'll be an SD17 girl! They released the first SD16 girl to us, maybe they'll do the same with the SD17??

...oooooooh.... I'd love an SD17 girl, but this imagery is making me want a boy too! :XD:

    35. Jewel Boys? oooh. I'd be game for that. :'D

    36. Oh, wow... I'd never even thought about SD16 Jewel Boys! :o That would be really cool! :D I hope Volks releases more dolls with the Ebony skintone. :aheartbea I was so excited when Ruby was released with it! :)

    37. Yeah i would love to see an sd17 girl :D

    38. The Ebony skintone looks so lovely, but the girl they released wasn't right for me. It's such a great color I can't imagine they wouldn't want to use it again for someone.

    39. I want a kurumi.

at least I'd be safe money-wise if they did an sd16 or 17... not for me.

kurumi, kurumi, kurumi, and SCHOOL HEAD C for the classes!!!!!!!!!!

    40. The thought of an ebony skin-tone Jewel boy is just too much for my poor brain. I think I'd have to whimper and meeble at hand over dollars fist by fist for him.

    41. QFE

That was the one thing I really disliked about last years NYDollpa... if you're going to have an exclusive event with an exclusive doll... there should at least be enough dolls for everyone attending, should they want one.

You shouldn't have to go there and panic about yet another lottery system.

Besides... it's not as if they can't be sold as exclusives through the magazine if there are any left over. People would be thrilled.

    42. Are you saying that people that went and couldn't get one was also not offered a preorder? and the doll mailed to them?

    43. no pre-orders, in fact not even a relpacement for the one missing doll during shipping.

Masha was a limited edition of 75 (FDQ only requested 75 of the dolls). After the Dolpa, they did request an additional 5 because they took orders for 80 in error. it was by lottery there and there were at least 250 attendees. one person never did get her doll.

Also, FDQ did not send out UPS tracking #'s and her doll was missing. She was refunded her payment because she could not get a replacement for the lost doll.

I hope they do something right like the LA dolpa, and take pre-orders for the limited doll and make enough for those what want one. - Barb

    44. Whoops... yes... everything above is what I typed plus more, thanks!

    45. that would be very disappointing. I am glad they are doing the Sei Tenshi/doll gifts by door lottery? is that correct. I am not a fan of bingo much too nervous at that. I felt like I might miss a number and seeing 5 people shoot there hands up that they were about to get bingo well..... LOL

    46. I was able to attend the first NYC Dolpa, but not the one last year, so hopefully I'll be able to attend this year. For now, I'm planning to attend; but things have been so chaotic lately that I'm not getting my hopes up on it.

    47. I badly want a Kurumi!

Yeah - they did a lottery for the Mashas at the Dollpa. My mom and I both put in for her because we both wanted her, and when they drew the names, neither of us won her. They gave people a chance to turn down their chance to buy Masha after they drew the names. Fortunately some people did, because Mom and I both got her when they posted a few names. I was so upset at not getting one, because I really wanted her! Of course, at least mine showed up and actually got delivered.

    48. Don't worry. :) Last year everybody received a numbered ticket when they entered the room. If Mr. Shigeta pulled out that same number during the lottery, you got to go up and choose a random piece of paper from the prize box, and Mr. Shigeta whould announce what you had won! :chibi So no bingo that time, and I think they'll stick to door lotteries from now on. :daisy

It was so exciting! :D My number was never called, but I was so happy for everyone who was! :) They gave away pattern books, Zoukeimura glass eyes, wig, clothing, and shoe sets, even standard SDs, MSDs, and SD13s! :o And of course, 10 Rei Tenshi and 10 Sei Tenshi! :love It was wonderful to see so many people win such sweet prizes. :dance

And at the end of the Dolpa, Mr. Shigeta handed everyone a random jewelry item as they left. :) I received a pretty black choker with a white lace flower on it. :aheartbea

I just keep hoping and wishing and praying that this year will be my turn to win something wonderful! :chibi

    49. Wow... To win a doll by lottery, that would be awesome. The standard dolls that people won, I'm guessing they didn't have to pay for them? As opposed to limiteds, where you get a chance to buy them. I really hope I win something. ^_^

    50. yes... there were standard dolls given away in the drawing too, it was fantastic... and no one had to pay for anything they won in the drawing!!!!

    51. That's really awesome! ^_^ I'm excited now.

    52. They also give away older limiteds in the lottery/bingo. I won a Black Cat Lucas playing bingo at the LA Teaparty in 2006. :)

    53. Everything you win in the gift lottery is absolutely free! :D Isn't it wonderful? :love Imagine winning an entire standard SD/MSD/SD13 for nothing! :o That's why I love Volks. :aheartbea They give so much back to their fans. :chibi

It was so wonderful seeing people (especially those without dolls) win an entire standard doll for free! :D A lady who sat at our table (I'm afraid I forgot her name) won a SD13 Shou! :dance And I think it may have been her first doll! :o What a wonderful way to get into this hobby. :daisy

    54. Oh! I'd forgotten about that! :o I don't think they gave away any old limited dolls at the last NY Dolpa. :) Maybe they will this year! :daisy

    55. They also did this at the August '06 LA Tea party. However, at the LA Dolpa, they skipped the secondary drawing for what you got...they just went through all of the items on hand, one at a time...ranging from sets of clothes to yes, dolls.

So funny, at the LA Dolpa they gave away an SD Kun..I joked with D that if we got drawn for her, we'd have a twin sister for Chiara. Admittedly though, I already felt like I was coming home with a LOT more than expected, so I'm kind of glad we didn't *LOL* I'm not sure how much fighting over clothes there would be between the two girls!

    56. Cammy, at the first one they gave away a Tony and Hewitt :)

Yeah, that happened to me, hehehe! The bingo at the first NYC tea party didn't work so good because when the last number was called about 7 people got Bingo! Both me and my friend Lauren screamed "BINGO!!!!" then looked at each other like, "oh sh-" :XD: They drew our names out of a hat to see who'd win the last Sei.

I like the drawing numbers way the best. It's the least stressful, and least dissappointing. If you don't win, then you have nobody to hate but fate XD If you lost at Bingo... well, let's just say there must have been a lot of torn up, mutilated bingo cards ;)

EDIT: Ooh, look! I got 3000 posts! ...Hm, is that good or bad...? :nowords:

    57. Oh! I remember hearing about that! :) It'd be cool if they did that again! :D Sweet Dream Mimi, anyone? :chibi

If I ever get a Kurumi, I'd love to get a Tony to be her boyfriend. :aheartbea

Yay! :D Happy 3,000th post, naki! :cheer I think I'm jealous LOL!

    58. Echoing on the less-stress comment. Although IT WAS STRESSFUL seeing the table next to ours get so many Sei's and Rei's. ZOMG. Everything seemed channeled to them, hahaha.

Congrats on your 3000th post! Let's just say you're way too chatty and we love you for being so. :aheartbea

    59. Nakitama: Congrats on the 3000 posts I must be super super chatty in the board I hit 4000 posts months ago. Luckily don't have my post numbers up anymore.

      -------------------
I think with the Masha doll from last year more complaints were lodged about limited numbers on the discussion than how many people actually wanted to buy it for themselves. It took three tries to sell Masha out at the dolpa and then to top it off they somehow sold 5 more dolls than necessary. The issue about the one doll that got misdelivered was really unfortunate.

I think with the FDQ exclusive doll Volks treats it like other exclusives they have in Japan it's sold by the company holding the exclusive not by volks. So it's almost like a second hand doll. Masha was mailed to the buyer from FDQ not from Volks.

    60. I remembered doing the bingo game for the August 2006 LA Tea Party. My boyfriend had almost all the numbers filled out except the one necessary for him to win. Both of us didn't win anything. Not even postcards. Rather disappointing. When LA Dolpa came around, I was able to win the MSD wig set and my boyfriend got MSD Sakura through the raffle. I think having the raffle is better than doing bingo. Better odds. ;)
