Dolpa3 NYC co-hosted by FDQ - Discussion Thread

Dec 29, 2007

    1. That is so good to hear! I tried calling a few days ago but I kept getting busy signals! Although thats not really surprising, haha.

    2. Yes!!!! Hawt, smexy dolls, all!! :D

    3. Has anybody with a SD16 (or similar sized doll) tried making the dresses from the FDQ virtual issue?

    4. I have the virtual issue. I have a SD16 girl. I haven't try it yet. I'm going to try after Anime expo this year. I'm finishing my costume ;)

    5. Dolpa NY pictures (mostly of owner dolls) are up on the Japanese version of superdollfie.net -- just click on "Dolls Party in N.Y. City 3 in 2008" in the sidebar, then click on the pink button at the bottom. :)

      http://www.superdollfie.net/10th_sd/gallery/gallery.html
All pictures in the gallery are clickable for larger versions.

The little blurbs under the pictures aren't too interesting, for the most part -- mainly talking about how they saw a large variety of styles and wigs and such. They did make note of Ashby's "sexy off-the-shoulder dress" and Jimmy the Rei-tenshi's mohawk. ;)

    6. :o:D:fangirl::o OMG ASHBY IS FAMOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

thanks so much for posting this!!!!!!!! I gotta tell Lolly.

    7. I see my Masaska!!!! Yay!!!! Thank you so much for posting this! Just made my day!

    8. There's Nana in her rose fer!

And bearded Christian and Ashby! w00t!

    9. Those are such great pictures! I'm thrilled to see them :) Brings back memories

    10. Oh cool! They put up the photos of my Mark & Mom's Ryo from just before the workshops started. :)

    11. JIMMEH!! :mwahaha
Oh, wow... now I would like to read what the captions do say...

All I know is that the Volks photographer came back twice to snap shots of Jimmy, but kept giggling.

    12. Nice pictures!

      Geri

    13. Woot! While my tan f13 wasn't one of the most beautiful dolls at the event, she made it to the website anyway! Yea! Though, it is probably one of the WORST pics of her ever! LOL... her kimono is falling off and her hair is a mess!

    14. Okay, the following is a rough translation of the captions (I emphasize ROUGH -- little effort was made to soften Volks' sometimes stilted language). I'm fairly Japanese-enabled, but the odd error or two may have sneaked in, so take it with a grain of salt.

The opening of the 3rd Dolpa in New York!

Finally, we can count the 3rd time of Dolpa in NYC!
Many American SD owners came to the event grounds ♥

There is a dinner party on the first day!
Because of this, the guests and their beloved children all styled themselves as they pleased, and enjoyed themselves at the party ♪

Every child was very individual, and the wigs were very colorful!
The SDs of America are so....!
There was also a fashionable person who even enjoyed tattoos ♥

There were also many different clothes. Like very dressy and long dresses, and a sexy off-the-shoulder dress.
While there were also casual styles, there were also children who truly seemed like fairies... ♥
Both clothes and make-up were very attractive ♪

The second day's main event is the "Dolpa Market"!

Clothes and kimonos and more from the Japanese dealers ... the guests earnestly chose outfits for their beloved children out of the many items ♪

The SDs were quickly changed into the clothes their owners chose, and fully enjoyed the second day of Dolpa ♥

      As expected of America!
Many SD16s, to make one think this... ♥
      And what!
      Even a Rei-tenshi with a mohawk...!

During the second day as well, we were able to meet many SDs loved by the American owners ♪
We are looking forward to meeting many more SDs during Hometown Dolpa Osaka 5 ♥

    15. "A fashionable person who even enjoyed tattoos", that's kinda sweet! :aheartbea (We know who that was!)

It sounds like they really groove on seeing the different ways that American doll owners tend to customize, dress, & play with their dolls (compared to the trends back home, I guess). I also got this same feeling from them at the Hollywood-movie-themed costume contest in LA last year... they all had such delighted reactions to almost every entry, and marvelled at the particular movies that were chosen, as well as how the costumes were executed. Also, it sounds like they expected to see Americans having a lot of SD16s. That I take with a grain of salt. ^^

Mille grazie for the translation, Tsukishiro! :cake:

    16. My boys are so plain, hahaha, especially compared to all yours. I feel so ashamed. I'd better get crackin' on making their parents proud. XP

    17. this is so awesome to hear what they think of us. how sweet!!! I do love volks.

    18. Hey all,

Quick question....A discussion on Resinality made me wonder about this..... I won the Anais One-Off at the NYC Dolpa, but I noticed that she has no headplate at all.....is that normal? :?

      Lindsay

    19. Lindsay: I can't say for sure but I've only heard of the School heads not having plates. I'd been sure one-offs had them. :sweat

    20. I will look at Ashby when I get home. Maybe one-offs don't have them?? on purpose??

    21. When we owned the one-off Olivia from the first NYC Dolpa, she had a headplate...

    22. I heard with one-offs sometimes they have a headplate sometimes they don't no rhyme or reason.

    23. My Cecil from the 2006 LA Dolpa has no headplate--but he's signed & dated inside.

    24. I won the Amelia boy one-off at the NYC3 dollpa, and he does have a one off headplate.

    25. Hey... when do we pay for the YoSDs? O_o; We're kind of waiting for payment, since we got a 'congrats, you got one' email... We don't want to screw up and miss it.

    26. Oh good lord Brighnasa! I never realized I spent so much time talking to you at Dolpa. *_* I thought I never even saw you there! lol feral5 and I were the two girls behind you and Lady Samhainne in line on the first day. I had no idea that was you.

    27. Lol. I should have put my name tag on early! It was much fun talking to you though. It made the wait fly by!

    28. brighnasa, are you the one who's with the modded Reisner and advertised the artist for the mod and face up? I forgot the artist's name...started with an "s".

    29. That's Brighnasa! And the artist who did her Reisner is Satako Ohno (Moroq). Stunning, stunning work...

    30. Lady Samhainne neglects to mention that she brought hers, too (another Satoko Ohno Reisner.) So it could have probably been either of us, but I had mine out in the line, where I don't think she got hers out until we found a table.

I'm happy to pimp Satoko Ohno any day though, lol.

    31. After seeing Satoko Ohno's work on the two above mentioned Reisners MY Elliott may just have to visit her as well. :)
No Yo~Sista' payment info requested from Volks just yet on my end either. Maybe this weekend?

LOL You sure were! I was so tempted to squee and cling when I saw him. Thank you so much for allowing me a few minutes of oogie time with him. :) I am still tickled that everyone around us seemed to have such great luck with the lottery and one-offs. It's even nicer to experience everyone else winning. :)

    32. Oops! Double post. My bad.

    33. I almost feel sorry for Irvin... but this means more people will have a chance at getting him!

So, who's getting an Irvin now that there are some available? XD

    34. Well, there went the last of my "rainy day fund." Fah, it doesn't rain that often here anyway... (I think monsoon season is just around the bend actually...hmmmmm....) Woot! Irvin!

    35. Oh seriously! I think I met both of you. I didn't know you're the one with the jewelry, I was asking about buying some from you. I was the one in the tinker bell shirt, bright tea green with lots of glitter, I was talking to you while we were waiting in line. Then you also convinced me to buy another SD doll bag :D. Next time I will properly greet you.

    36. I actualy had to call on Saturday Volks USA and ask them, since my Internet service provider was down until late last night. Anyway, the word I got from the nice employee was to look for invoices to start going out in early July. :D

      Hugs, Juli DC :D

    37. I wish I could buy Irvin :( but I am poor.

    38. :: hugs :: I'm so glad, SailorLimaBean!!!!! I was worried you wouldn't get your beautiful boy, and now all is much, much better for me :D

I'm definitely getting an Irvin for myself. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE that ebony skin. Must make him into a grungy city-dwelling forest elf :drool

    39. Oh!! That sounds very interesting! Be sure to post pictures of him. I can't wait to see all the different ways that people dress Irvin. ^_^

    40. Thank you for that news Juli. I am actually pleased that there is a delay since the household bills were choking me this month. This gives me a little longer to stash the Yo-cash away for Kira! :)

    41. Heads up for those who ordered Irvin at NYC Dolpa 3! :D

I called FDQ late Tuesday and got through. The lady said she was working on manually putting through the Irvin orders. So checked my CC when I got home and it looks like my $100.00 deposit is going through. :) She said we would get receipts by email....but I probably won't....my CS.com doesn't seem to like FDQ stuff.
      .

    42. I know that Dolpa attendees and email purchases of Irvin require a $100 deposit, but to buy from FDQ.com it looks like you have to pay the entire $968 up front. Has anyone gone through the FDQ checkout yet?

    43. I'm not sure if this has been answered already, but what artists were at the event? Did Ciera and Valico come?

    44. You guys are so brave! My Kaiya never gets to go anywhere. I can't bring myself to let that faceup out of the house. I've tried, and I'd still love to show him off at a Dolpa someday, but I just can't. I'm still a wimp. (I think it's because my credit-card still hurts to think about his bidding-war, even after almost 3 years. :shudder)

That's why I love seeing them out & about! <3 I know Nena has one at home, and if wickedstitchery you have one too, along with LadyS & Brighnasa's... :drool There could be quite the Ohno-family reunion next Dolpa. Mmm! Beauty overload!

    45. ooo i can't wait to get a face up by that artist, maybe I will give her Amelia's face to redo, or Tsubaki...or Reisner... errr I have to choose a head. I am actually quite fond of Volks face up choices. Amelia has a little scar on her lip from delivery...or maybe my F-35!! or if she does tattooing then I would hand her my F-30 kasuri san! I will see when she does one of those auctions again.

    46. Susiq brought her F26 painted by Satoko Ohno to the dolpa. I don't know if anyone took pictures. I can see if she has any to post on the dolpa picture thread.

    47. I don't know if Satoko Ohno does tattooing, but you can always ask. To see about getting her to do a commission, you'll need to go to her webpage and ask to be added to her mailing list. There's a lot of information about how she does it here:

      http://www.oneg.zakkaz.ne.jp/~gene/list/Ohnoya/TOP.html

Once you're on the list, she'll send out notification 3-4 times a year that she's opening 1 commission slot on eBay for a flat buy-it-now price. Then all you have to do is have lightening-quick fingers. :)

She also sells dolls and doll heads she's painted to her own specifications much more often. I have two of these beauties in addition to the Reisner commission. Her prices on these dolls is affordable, and her work is spectacular :)

Oh! And the reason to be on her mailing list: she'll let you see everything she's selling ahead of time as well as provide you with a link to the future auction and the *exact* time the auction will launch.

      Good luck!!!

    48. LOL You're tempting me to bring my Satoko Ohno Tony, Cecil, and Reisner all to Dollectable, my dear, just to see how you'd react to seeing them all together in skanky street clothes! :mwahaha

    49. Thanks for the update! :aheartbea

    50. Way cool, Midori!!

I've just been, and spotted _lots_ of people and dolls I recognize from here - and there!

(My own witchy girl Phoenix even made the cut!)

It was really fun to read the VOLKS staff's reactions to everything. They're such delightful people!

    51. How awesome! I'm even in a couple pictures when I was doing my FCS. ^_^ Looking at all of the pictures made me miss the weekend all over again. -_-

    52. Hehe! There's me (no lipstick, the shame -- it was SO hot!) with Mr. Enku and Mr. Shigeta!

      http://www.volks.co.jp/jp/event/dolpa_ny3ar/photo/guest06.jpg

Mr. Enku sculpted Anthea (Ushiwakamaru girl), and he always likes to come over and take a picture with her -- he did the same last year!

Through his translator, Mr. Shigeta said that he was surprised to see two Ushi girls there (Lolly also had her Connie with her -- she's the one in the amazing beaded fairy costume on Sunday), because they're very rare, especially in the US. It was a fun conversation!

    53. haha there's a picture of me freezing during the makeup lesson. sweet.

    54. Hooray, I got to see the picture of girlytattoos husband throwing the horns when his name was called for the one-off. I heard all about it but wasn't able to make it to NYC dolpa this year, glad I got to see the photo though.

    55. Girlytattoos Hubbie was a hit at the Dolpa.. he was so excited and you could hear his whoot all through the hall.. Made us all smile too!

    56. Oh....spotted myself at FCS and makeup...LOL!
      .

    57. Yay! They got a full-on shot of Cliff's victory horns!! That rawks on so many levels.
(And girlytats, lookit, they got your headplate, too. ^^)

Mercifully, I am in no photos this year. This is good. Last year I appeared twice, so they owed me one year of anonymity. snerk.

PS. They're right, you know, those cakes WERE adorable.

    58. whoa..... we did wind up on that page. I really should email shino. T_T been off for a bit as I have been under the weather. Thanks for the emails guys and hoy cow I'm on the Volks page and they are showing off my tattoo!!!!

The next one I'm planning is on a whole new level and it should be done next year.
