Dolpa 2 in New York City Discussion

Jan 11, 2007

    1. Aww, no way!! That little man-- that powerhouse in a lavender camisole-- made SUCH a splash that I think he qualifies you as a complete halfway SD-owner. "Splash", as in, he made me laugh all my eyeliner off before 11 am. He wins at everything.

      Oh my, isn't he HAPPY?

My own photo-travelogue is too big, and too unattractively-photographed, for me to want to make my own thread here. But I do have a Photobucket! Feel free to fill in the blanks for me about your name or your dolls' names, because I have left 90% of everybody unidentified. -_- (I'd rather leave it blank than guess wrong!)

      http://s16.photobucket.com/albums/b25/PennyDreadfulDolls/Volks NYC Dolpa II - 8-9 Jun 07/

The Photobucket's name is "PennyDreadfulDolls", in case this URL cuts you off. The password is "dollpublic". (Leaf around all you like; it's my public-meetups 'Bucket.)

PS. I really hope they're going to be selling that UV-cut sealant at VolksUSA... I purposely didn't buy any to bring home from NY, because I'd heard odd things about not travelling on a plane with it. ;; But I didn't realize it wasn't actually MSC. Will everybody who tries it out, let us know how well it works?

    2. XD Remember me? I was the freak with the two-tone hair who couldn't keep herself off Cloud and Leon. I wound up getting that little one to stick his finger in his mouth, which he seemed to refuse to do afterward. Did you manage to get him to do it again?

    3. Since people were wondering about the whole difference in kimonos from the NYDP and what we saw on the website for the DP. Here are two different ways I've had Maddy wear hers:

This is more of a er... courtesan look. >_>

      More traditional.

I took almost 200 odd some pictures because the darn clouds kept messing with my lighting! Grr. I'm going to seriously have to set up an indoor studio. :sweat

    4. that green works perfectly with her red hair.. I am still fussing trying to tie kimono

    5. Thanks S2Kitty! I googled kimono myself (after your original DOA comments) and came up with Oiran Kimono! Alex

    6. Wow - I didn't even come close to doing my kimono "right". I was so stumped. I really need detailed instructions for everything.

    7. Thanks to everyone for such a friendly welcome!

Thanks! rkold and Kim have been preparing me as far as the addictiveness, but I've got a feeling I won't fully have a handle on that until I'm living on cup ramen so my doll can have new shoes. ^^

Volks impressed me at Dolpa almost as much as the doll fans I met. I'm not as familiar with the other companies, so I'm looking forward to learning more about them as well.

Handsome works -- I'm sure he'd approve! ^^ Do you have a lot of 1/6s?

    8. If it makes peopel feel any better. I had gotten a simple Hakama set from Dolpa Osaka 3 and I needed Aone and a second person to demonstrate how to properly tie it so my Sorrel would be dressed up properly.

thanks for sharing those lovely shots s2kitty.

Also I finally typed up and back dated livejournal After Reports
      http://aree.livejournal.com/

I'm thinking I will a separate entry from my FCS and then maybe some highlight photos when I get a chance to properly organize my photos

    9. Well, except in the RPing I do with Kim... ^^ I love that first photo (and thanks for the Photobucket link -- I enjoyed perusing your pics. I think I might have stayed in that hotel once...). Kim got a nice front view, too. His name is Wakato, and the gayness of the doll is pretty much on par with the gayness of the actual character. Seriously, his magical tennis is sparkly pink rainbow magical tennis. I just have to get his hair to curl like that... (It'll be good practice for when I get him as an SD...eventually. ^^;

lol I do in fact! (And to be fair, it's hard to keep your hands off those two, or to keep from ogling them from a distance.) We got him to do it again eventually, but only after a lot of trial and error. It almost makes me want to install magnets in his hand and inside his head or something, because it IS an appropriate pose for him...

Again, thanks to everyone for the warm welcome -- I'm looking forward to posting here often.

    10. Volks has posted the NYDP2 after report! Tons of photos (I unfortunately found 2 of myself ;^^) and a sweet report by Mr. Shigeta with his thoughts on the event and an update that Mrs. Shigeta is doing well. :celebrate

I've been so out of since the event still and I'm writing this very late, but it was wonderful seeing everyone again (Barbara, Daniel, Alex, Janne, Nova, Rachel, Geri, Rin) and meeting so many new people (Cerine, Juli dc, Julie M, JennyNemesis, nakitima, sumomo123, jaeninha, Shen Xia, Andi, Anthony, aznbutterfly and many more..)! This dolpa was even better than last year's ^^ I can't wait for the next one, so to borrow the words of Mr. Shigeta, see you again someday!

    11. Reading the After Report and looking at the photos (where I appear blatantly in one, thanks to Mikey XD) have brought tears to my eyes. I wish that weekend wouldn't have gone so fast! It was truly wonderful meeting so many dollie lovers and the masterminds behind all this love.

Here's hoping for the next one and to see everyone again next year!

    12. Aaawwwwww . . .

I see a lot of people I recognize - some I've known and loved for years, and some I met that weekend - and all of them beautiful, wonderful folks!

I see a lot of dolls I recognize as well! It's a delightful reminder of how much fun that whole weekend was. Also deligtful, the assortment of gifts given to the family of Sarah Schoch, and to the staff and family of VOLKS. BJD people restore my faith in people, nearly every time they do anything.

I'm looking forward to next year's Dolpa too!

      ~Bruce

    13. 60 times? Wow, I wonder why they were so nice to us. I'm so touched.

:3 Aw, the thought of the angels practicing their English is so sweet.

    14. OMGosh I feel the same way (sniff). Can't wait till next year! I hope they do FCS again, and every time I see a picture of Masha I get excited!

    15. I found the back of my head at the painting class! And it looked okay! :sweat That's such a sweet after-event report. I really hope that Mrs. Shigeta can come to the next Dolpa! The people I went with and I had so much fun, that we definitely want to go back next year!

    16. I'm so happy that Mr. Shigeta already seems to be talking about NEXT year in his After report!!!:fangirl: I feel like the old Romper Room lady gazing into her magic mirror when I look at this pictures....there's my SDC Kaede-Sugar looking so sweet in her pink waffle wig...sitting next to Tobey's Olivia! And I see so many people I know too...Tobey learning all about legs, Anthony with his gorgeous Olivia, and Elle, and Cammy, and Marie (who I gave my Masha slot too), and S2Kitty, and JulieM and I in Painting class...just like last year, you only glimspe the back of my head! LOL! Oh I had so much fun, and feel so blessed to have gotten to take part in such a wonderful event!!! And I can't wait to be there again at NYC Dolpa 3!!!:fangirl: :fangirl: :fangirl:

      Juli DC :fangirl:

    17. I am totally, utterly, and completely sniffly now <3

      -- A :D

    18. Me, too! and I wasn't even there! The Volks staff are so sweet and everyone looked great in the pics. What fun to see the NY Dolpa come to life.

    19. Wow.. I can't believe I'm in those pictures!! I never expected that, especially not to be right in the middle! (I'm the one with the blond, red-streaked hair).. I'm just glad I don't have too stupid an expression on my face, lol! I'm so glad to see my School C boy and my little Suzuna-kitty with her buddy, Jun T. It's so strange! I still find it hard to believe that I was actually there! I'm also incredibly releaved to hear the next year references! I'm going and I can't wait!!

    20. "The lottery had a winning rate that was 60 times higher than those in Japan."

I must say, lucky lucky! 0.0

    21. Wow. Everytime I read something written by Mr. Shigeta, I remember his sincere speech about Sarah and get a little choked up myself. I think of all the wonderful events, people and dolls I encountered that weekend, meeting and interacting with Mr. Shigeta made the most impression on my memory.
I have never met such a warm, sweet, kind hearted, playful man and I look forward to seeing him and the amazing Volks staff again soon.
I just got back from a meet up at Elizabeth Park in Hartford, CT where I got some darling shots of my Sei-Tenshi for my thank you note. I can't wait to send my sincere thank you to the the Shigeta family & the Volks staff.

    22. I am a complete drooling Volks fangirl! And so excited to see a photo of Moi in the Dolpa coverage! Eesh I'm such a moron. I was having so much fun sitting with Bianca and Jenny in the painting class!

    23. I love Mr. Shigeta's summary of the weekend's events.

Yeah! A picture of my Nashya (I think it was one taken by Valico) made it onto the page -squee!

    24. I saw many shots with my dolls in them, but not me. :sweat Which is probably a good thing. Lovely shot of Kim's er... cleavage in that one shot of our table. I was the only one at the table cut out of the shot. LOL

    25. I started laughing when I saw you there! I also saw a peek of Lisa, but I seem to have been entirely omitted (thank goodness). At least you have some photos of yourself that people can blackmail you with. XD

    26. It was great to see pictures of you Jaeninha and Bianca. Looking at volks' after report I keep saying to myself, next year I need to take pictures of people and more owners pictures. I was too busy enjoying the dolpa this year to remember taking photos. :sweat I spotted pictures of my dolls in the background of sumomo123 painting her F07 head.

I went through my shots again and started putting together a new album with captions. Darn allergies I'm still not done.
      http://public.fotki.com/aree/doll-related/dolpa-ny2-highlight/

      P.S.

For those who ordered sunlight dolls at dolpa volksua has option part in stock for summer fair :)

    27. squee they've got a piccie of Ashby up! (my anais) i'm glad to NOT see myself in any of those pics, eep. urgh.

i am so in love with Mr. Shigeta!!!

    28. Oh, crikey! I just saw those pictures! :sweat Why did they have to put TWO uncensored pictures of my big scary face up in here? Rowan's day-glo orange hair is visible from a mile away, too, you can't bury those pictures. Couldn't they use that Witness Protection Program face-blur, or... ^.^

And right, who said Romper Room? :mwahaha Exactly, exactly! "And I see Nena and I see Anthony and I see Leigh and I see...."

Ah, anyway, what a wonderful scrapbook page that is. I liked the bit about those rare little Tenshis practicing their English. <3 And what a sweet bunch of thankyous and get-wells mementoes were going around... I like the pic of the get-well care package for Mrs Shigeta too. Such graciousness! I too will be back next year, and in fact I hope I can make it to the LA party when THAT next comes around too.

    29. LMAO... But no Seriously, do you think we can write to volks and ask for the Protection Program face-blur... Especially for my picture:ablah: I just really can't get over how horrible every single picture of me cam out:(.... But the other pictures were beautiful. Memories... Ohhh what glorious memories:aheartbea
      ~Anthony

    30. You look really cute Anthony, if a bit younger looking than real life in that picture. If I didn't know any better I would have pegged you at 16 or 18 in that shot.

    31. Oh man he does look really young in that shot! But you are still adorable, Anthony! It's a fun scrapbook page to keep looking at the photos. Unfortunately I just found a picture of myself on the workshop day after all. Ew.

    32. ^^ You guys are too sweet:sweat.... I still hate the picture, but yes, I agree... Beautiful Memories:aheartbea
      ~Anthony

    33. btw: Am posted in news that FDQ will start billing for Masha this week for those wo ordered her

    34. I found myself in there! Being shown how to correctly hold the leg and how to sand it the best way. And my Olivia, who was taking a break and relaxing, got her photo in there, too. It really brought great memories of the fun and the friends! And such a nice report--everyone at the company was so nice.I really enjoyed meeting and talking to them.

If only I could have predicted the future! When I was 10, my mom's best friend went to Japan and taught at the AF base there, teaching Japanese to the Americans stationed there. Now, many years later, I could kick myself for not learning some Japanese from here when she returned!!!! It would have come in very handy, to be able to at least speak a bit. Mr. Shigeta's Japanese lessons I hope I can remember! LOL

    35. AreeElf I l love your pictures!
Anthony, when I see your pictures I think of how wonderful and bubbly you are!

    36.
    37. I see the back of my head XD

    38. I love the after-report....it brings back wonderful memories!

Could have done without me in a couple of the pictures....(LOL)....but love seeing my dolls in a few. So thrilled to see a nice closeup of my Olivia! I just love that doll!

So they are already thinking bigger and better for NYC3 next year....YEAH....sign me up NOW! :) Met several great friendly people at NYC Dolpa 2 and want to do it again at NYC Dolpa 3!

      Hugs,
      Janine/Angelguardian

    39. I love the part of the after-report where Mr. Shigeta mentions that the Rei-Tenshi "are probably busy practicing their English right now." I lol'd.

    40. I found this site so very late, and didn't know anything about the event in New York where you all had so much fun! I feel so left out -- I hope that I am able to go next year. Is there any other event between now and then? I can barely wait! Another question--I do not see too many pictures of each other, but have read how well you all get along. It would be good to see your happy faces at the convention as well, so we newcomers can get to know you, too. I love seeing all those beautiful dollies, but does anyone have people pictures too?

    41. There should be another dolpa held by Volks in LA this fall. It's going to be a "Japanese-style" dolpa, but that's about all we know so far :)

As for people pictures... you're right! I know a few of us have chuckled over not having very many owner pics up. I know I'll be taking many this fall!

    42. Haha! Yeah, us humanoid parents do tend to be a little camera-shy. :sweat

Hanna, if you want to see humans, check out the Volks NYC Party "report" page. They took a lot of pictures of us (crowds, workshops, individuals) and not just the dolls. It's a really nice scrapbook of the event. Even though a lot of us are shy types, it was nice for us to meet each other, & attach faces to the names we've known for so long. (As well as getting to meet the very warm & very real humans behind the Volks Empire. ^^)

And don't fret-- Volks will have other events. The next one is in Los Angeles in November.

    43. Just got an email from Volks!

    44. How exciting!!
      Congrats guys!
Cant wait to see what you chose!

      *jen

    45. :dance My 3 FCS dolls are on the way too! ::way excited:: :dance

    46. I just got the email too! So excited!!!

    47. Yup, my Nasya kittygirl is pawing her way across the US!
      :)

    48. I'm getting my boy, too! :D

    49. My girl shipped too. Congrats everyone who's been waiting

    50. I've received word too! :D My sweet "Yam" is in a happy brown UPS truck somewhere! Like all of us that are "expecting", I'm really excited to see what my little MSD Boy-Angel actually looks like. What a nice suprise to have him on his way to me a whole month earlier than I was told he would be! Congrats to everyone thats having their FCS dreams come true!

      Juli DC :)

    51. OMG! You mean I could conceivably receive my birthday present to myself some time around my birthday?

      <nawww!>

Did any of you order seam removal?

yiyiyi... were you folks all earlier numbers?

Inquiring minds wish to know.... :)

    52. I think I was number 5 or 6....? I did order seam removal, because my girl is Sunlight, and Volks does the Sunlight seams so beautifully. *^_^*

    53. Thanks! My gal is sunlight as well, but I think she will take a while longer -- my number was much later.

    54. Hello!
I have 3 FCS orders coming in (I did 2 & my mother did one for me to trade for one of my dolls). All Sunlight skin, all had the works done to them. I didn't want to take anything to chance with sanding the Sunlight skin :)

      I was 12, my mother was 13 & then my second/third FCS, I was 31.

    55. Yay!!! :D My girl is on her way home!! :love Oh I can't wait to finally hold my very own Super Dollfie!! :chibi I'm so excited and nervous at the same time!! :dance :shudder I think she's supposed to arrive on Monday, so I'll be feverishly checking the porch until she arrives!!

      YAY!!! :sumomo:

    56. OMG! I got home from university orientation today to find a salmon colored USPS slip on my door. It didn't have the shipper name on it, but it wasn't 5:30 p.m. yet so I went to the post office to check on it anyway, because I have orientation tomorrow, as well. I hadn't received a confirmation email from Volks with a tracking number, so I didn't even remotely think it would be my girl.

Elise, aka "Ellie," my gorgeous sunlight skin F17 SD13 girl is HOME! Now to find her something to wear! Eep! I didn't think she'd be home until mid to late September.

      I'm thrilled.
