Dolpa 2 in New York City Discussion

I have a question, I recently bought my Emma from the LA site, but I didn't exactly recieve anything saying I was a registered Super Dollfie owner (a pin, that's about it). Does it mean I'm still registered 0.o?

I'm really excited about this, especially the fact that we can order FCS there too!

 

I hope that Volks changes the date till AFTER June 17th since college students, like myself, have finals and graduation of that week. If I had to choose between my friends' graduations on the 16th and 17th and a Dolpa, then there really is no choice but to choose my friends.

Hopefully, Volks will hold the NY Dolpa during the June 23-24th weekend...or maybe even June 30th-July1st, even though Anime Expo falls on that weekend as well. But Im hoping itll be held during June 23-24th. Im already planning my plan trip and hotel accomadations with friends for the NY Dolpa, since I eagerly look forward to it.

 

There's no way to please everyone :\ There are colleges that have their finals and graduations a full month before then. No matter when it's scheduled it'll conflict with something.

 

I don't like that you have to buy from volks, be a magazine subscriber, or have gotten a doll from FDQ to be able to go. I hope thats not true.

 

Like I said: "I hope..." Whether it happens or not is up to Volks, but Id just like to express my anticipation for the event as well as my hope that the date will change to a later time.

I completely understand that not everyone may be pleased and there may or may not always be complications/problems/etc. You really dont need to point out the obvious to me, and the sudden and quick pessimism is definitely not appreciated.

 

You only have to be one of the three right? I have a members card from Volks so I guess I'm registered...? I really would like to be able to go this time!

 

Actually, the only pessimism I perceived came from you.

Whenever it happens.. I'm afraid I'll have to wait until the next time it happens.. hopefully!

 

I just hope it isn't June 1st-3rd! That's when Dollectable is, and it'll make me a sad panda if I 1) don't have anyone coming to the convention and 2) are not able to make it to the Dolpa!

 

How is it different/same from Japan's Dolpa?

 

My semester will be over in early May so I definitely want to go! I've never been to meet or anything so this is pretty exciting. I don't like the qualifications that they have, though... but I have my Volks member card even though I don't have any Volks dolls anymore, so I guess I'm fine either way. XD

 

Oh how exciting then! I hope I'll be able to go! My semester usually ends somewhere mid-May so if it's in early June it'll be okay for me.

 

I don't think we know exactly just yet, but one thing's for sure, it will be much smaller than the Dolpas in Japan, which attract thousands of people. I think I heard that there would be a dealer hall this time, though, where people have the chance to sell their hand-made items (again, probably much smaller than the dealer hall at a Dolpa in Japan).

There will probably be the usual Bingo game, limited editions, and one-off models. Maybe new clothing releases. Maybe a make-up class, Dolpa lunch, customised doll contest, a charity one-off?

 

Ack. So excited! Excuse me while I run off to start saving up now!

 

Aww, man, I'm even more excited about it now. I better start saving up... if the LEs are nice I'd have to grab one, and maybe attempt getting a one-off, and have the chance to get a School A head without paying the YJ price. Heh, now I can't wait for the semester to end, and it hasn't even started yet!

 

Aw hecks yes. >3 I LOVED the first Dolpa, and was hoping for another! I'll definately be going.

 

I want to go too... I hope the date gets pushed back a little too myself. Like they said it's a tentative date. They might realise that another Doll con is ging on at the same time and decide to push back the date... I do hope they push it back and not forward in May ::shakes::

 

Totally need to call the Gershwin hotel again now. XD Make up classes and the chance to order FCS kids! OMG! OMG! Ok, that is it, not buying any dolls until then. Must save all money possible. I'm so excited!

 

I'm going to be driving all the way from PEI, Canada for this and it will be so worth it! Although there's the fact that I'm also going to visit one of my greatest friends that's making it worth it too, lol! I don't really know what to excpect (have only read about other dolpas), but I'm incredibly excited for it!

 

Am I reading it right that having a volks membership is good. i have that but no volks doll yet

Did they sell FCS at last years event?

they did not have full choice systems last year. it was fun but 3 hours total for the party. They did have lottery for one-offs, bingo games with prizes and the opportunity to order Olivia last year. This year second day is such a bonus for the east coast! Also, if you had bought the FDQ Olivia limited edition outfit, it states that you are guaranteed a spot in the dolpha. I imagine there will a lot of applicants to this, with the FCS available on the east coast for the first time for this party! -

I'm just glad it's earlier. It was SO EFFING HOT. I honestly thought I was gonna die. LOL. Wasn't the gershwin fun? I thought it was fun!!

 

Yeah, the makeup thing is the seller for me this year. I want to do makeup so badly! *starts making weird little noises* Ah 6 months is so far away! I'm going to have to renew my FDQ subscription. Now I really wish I'd been able to get Olivia last year. *sigh*

 

I hope we can start registering for it soon.. I'm going to be paranoid the whole time until then that for some reason I won't be able to, or they'll be full up and I can't go! When did they start registering for last year's dolpas? Was it really close to the date?

 

Ooooh - I might be able to make it to this, and since I bought the FDQ Olivia outfit, it looks like I'll be guaranteed a spot. Neat! I definitely want to do the makeup, but I'll probably pass on FCS, unless I come into a ton of money by then. Which...isn't too terribly likely, I'm afraid.

Since the chances of there being any more h.Naoto collaborations are slim to none, I should be safe on the limited side.

I'm not entirely certain I can attend the NY event, no matter when it is. I'm budgeted for an SD16, even with wedding plans (unless something horrible happens), but I'm not exactly budgeted for a trip to NY on TOP of a doll. Plus, while I don't have school *phwew!*, I do have San Diego ComicCon and DragonCon...and for anyone not aware, those won't be cheep

 

I too Purchased the FDQ Exclusive SD16 Olivia outfit So I'm guarenteed a spot and I'm so Super excited!!!!!! The Teaparty last year was so Freakin Awesome!!! Just so much fun, and this year it promises to be Way Better and 2 days And a Make up Class It's more then I could ever dream of.... I hope I get into one of the classes I would love to learn how to Paint a Face up by one of the Amazing Volks Artists!!!!!

I think it's amazing that this popped up like, the day after I recieved my first order from Volks! I can't wait for more information, because this would be really really exciting to check out. Even if I won't be up here for school by then, it certainly isn't very tough to get back up to the city for me! I'd definitely be interested in a makeup class, especially since my first love has always been the School A head.

From the way you guys have been talking, a NYC Dolpa has happened before? What was it like the first time, for those of us that are hideously out of the loop? Where did they hold it? Does anybody have photos?

 

It was Absolutely Amazing Held at FIT in New York (Same Place this Year)....Though not as Wonderful as this coming up Dolpa Promises to be, but It was Truely A Magical Day for me It was my First Ever doll meet, and my best friend and I got to go as the Guests of two very Sweet and Amazingly Kind DOA Members Stella Maris & JulieDC But the best part of all was that I got to bring home the boy who stole my heart at the Tea, my Elliot (SD13 Cecile One Off) Here are some pictures of Last Years NYC Tea Party:

Wow, the NY Dolpa sounds so good ^^ I don't think i will be able to go (even though i wish for it!) but you never know I hope the LA Dolpa will be just as good (hopefully she will be at all xD)

 

I'm so hoping to go, although I do hope the tentative date is pushed back. I'm supposed to be at the beach for a fishing tournament the 9th through the 16th. I'd much rather go to the Dolpa in NYC than the fishing tournament!

And maybe I'll get very lucky and somehow snag a Jun Tachibana One-Off! (Hey, I can dream can't I?)

Eep! That seems so close when I think about it money-wise. I want to go for FCS and the painting class but I'm not sure if I'll be able to afford NYC prices for two days. Flying to LA for Dolpa might actually be cheaper. >_______<

Pragmatically speaking, we can't really make any plans until we have more information. Am is great at providing information as soon as she has it (or soon thereafter!). It seems that the most important information, at this point, would be a specific date (which Volks might not be able to commit to, yet ... or perhaps FIT cannot yet commit), and then perhaps pricing for specific events such as the painting class.

Has anybody taken the class in Japan? If so, a price estimate would be most appreciated, I'm sure. Does the class come with head, paints, and tools, or should those be purchased and brought along and/or purchased at the class?

FIT is close to nearly everything. It's on 7th Avenue at 27th Street -- I took the train and the subway from JFK when I was there last summer. Madison Square Garden is just a few blocks away.

 

So if I subscriber to FDQ I can go?? How do I do that??

I'd love to find out how many people will be allowed to go (specifically, the room we were in last year didn't seem like it could hold a ton more people). I'd like to see if it's going to be capped at 250 like last year or if they'll open it up to more people.

 

While it would be great if everyone who wanted to go could, I'd hate to see it get overly crowded, especially since I can get a little claustrophobic at times *laughs*

 

Would LOVE to do a painting class I wonder if that would include learning the airbrush? now that would be cool. Yes last year was SO hot I also thought I would dye Sher (not at the actual event which had air conditioning)

 

What color would you have dyed Sher? Just kidding, it was hot though. I would love love love a painting class. Also FCS would be fun fun fun. Getting home from work at 5AM makes me say everything 3 times.

I keep hoping that one day Volks will open a Sumika in NYC. Maybe if a lot of people come to this event they will!

I don't fit any of the criteria.. but maybe, just maybe.. I'll convince mom over here to allow me to get a subscription (for my own money, naturally) and then I can go.

While you're most likely right, Fireflytranc, I definitely hope otherwise. The fashion doll look doesn't appeal to me (the only reason I'd like an Olivia head is make one into a boy XD), so I'd rather see something in Volks's usual style, maybe even a rerelease of an older sculpt.

On the other hand, I kind of hope that it IS a fashion doll type... less money I'd spend. XD

 

I hope they'll carry some of the previous fashions that have been available for SD16 girls... I don't want to purchase them from Y!J just yet o_o
