Dolpa 2 in New York City Discussion

Jan 11, 2007

    1. I got glasses too. A gold rimmed pair. ^^ Axel's more into silver, but my new girl seems to take to them well...

    2. I was in that group too, and got to talk a bit with Mikey and Mr. Shigeta (lol, he liked my head a lot too, and I have to say it made me more than slightly nervous to have him peering over my shoulder! XD I was hoping he wasn't thinking "OMG, what is she doing to my dolls!" ... but then he said how much he loved it and I was able to breath again! XD )

... I wish I would have known who the people were in Mikey's class group! I had no idea who most of the people at Dolpa were... and I'm not daring enough to go up and ask.

    3. I really liked the faceups on all the one-off though I would have loved some with some rose rather than brown and mauve. It seemed more autumn than summer colors.

My favorite definitely is Sher's girl with her fabulous eyeshadow. Very glam. Though I wuld have balanced it with a bit of gloss and lighter lines on the lips to give a more bjd feel than 60s barbie/fancie. My husband was the one who pointed that out. She was very outlandish and hip in a mod way definitely suited to Sher's collection :)

My second favorite was the Valico very natural looking faceup. I was thinking between putting for 6 or 9. Yes I have odd eclectic tastes

    4. You guys are lucky! A cute little pair of glasses would've been totally sweet indeed!
I saw someone who had a nice pair for their boy... they were seriously charming.

    5. I was so happy that you won her... we all saw her and thought "OMG... that doll would be perfect for Sher's collection!"

...and also, thanks so much for helping out in Friends 2B Made and letting me hobble along after you and Lolly XD (I was so dead by day 2)... but at least we got to see Ricky Martin shaking his bon bon, LOL!!!

    6. The gifts were nice. I got a pretty lacey choker with a silver charm on it, perfect for my Mizuha!

    7. I had a really great time this weekend. I'm actually a little surprised at how much fun I had, strange as that sounds. I got the chance to hang out with the NJ doll people, pretty much all of whom I haven't seen since I moved in October.

And best of all, I won the one-off Michele girl, who was a doll I never even considered getting a chance to own. :abow: Thesaraghina owns my soul for helping me afford her when my card was declined. :...( Now I need to decide what to name her.

    8. Oh, hey! ^^ I was talking to you on the kimono line. I'm so happy you got to bring your Michele home.

    9. Maybe you'd recognize the heads they/we painted? XDDD A thread should be started for photos of the make-up classes and the painted heads!

    10. I just posted some (50) quick pics in my LJ
Andi made a comment about taking people pics, so I did try to take more than just dolly pictures!

      http://1olly.livejournal.com/

    11. A quick hello to all before I head off to bed.

I had a WONDERFUL time at my first Dolpa, and Maebe appears to have a had a blast too. She got a lot of love and kind compliments which really touched me.
I got to meet some great folks, brandon, faye, matthew, greg, cammy, stella-maris, JulieM (who deserves a round of applause for the nametags), and so many more. It was a terrific day. Though I didn't win a sei or a rei, I had the next best thing: I was sitting at a table with both a sei winner and a rei winner, so I got to take a look at both up close. Brandon, your sei is to die for, seriously. I adored his hair color, and he looks like he has some serious big thoughts going through his little resin head. And the rei... OMG. The photos which had been posted online previously do not do them justice. At all. They are beyond adorable. Plus, Maebe got a pair of sunglasses on the way out! Awesome!
All in all just a wonderful, emotional, touching day.

As an aside, the friend with whom I was staying in the city was a confirmed dollfie/bjd hater. After spending a day studying Maebe and hearing about the dolpa, she went from hating them to asking if she could come with me on Sunday! When I told her I couldn't bring her since guests had to be pre-registered, she was disappointed but said "well, I guess it's better. If I went, I know I'd try to buy one..." I'm hoping to bring her along next year!

An enormous thanks and much love to Volks for such a fanstastic day!

    12. Seriously!? Ack! I've been wanting a pair of those, and I totally forgot to open whatever was in that little box! ^_^ Eeek!

      FWD

    13. Heh heh I love that you call me Stella! It's my glamorous alterego. In real life I'm Sharon. Bleh, boring! Very 60's.
Hey how's Miss No Name (she who will not be named!) coming along?

    14. Hi misa! :daisy It was so nice to finally meet you! :D I wish I had asked to see Maebe. Since she was your first SD, she must be very special to you. :aheartbea I'm glad you had a great time! :dance

That's awesome! :D I love stories about SD-haters growing to like them. :) My sister went from totally disinterested to nearly buying one herself! Good luck with your friend! :daisy

    15. Oh Daniel!!! :( I sure hope they show up soon!!! :eusa_pray Can you contact the Gershwin too for lost and found stuff?

    16. Oh I know. I think the dolly gods were watching over me because my Tenshi has a naughty face and my door gift was a silver cross necklace. How fitting!

He is currently sleeping like an...angel? in his padded box covered in a little knit blanket. He looks so innocent.

    17. Awww... that's so sweet! :D I can just imagine him playing harmless pranks on the other Sei Tenshi! Have you thought of a name for him yet? :daisy

    18. I had a pretty faboo weekend - though I got aggravated easily by some things, mostly my lack of energy and passing out every night. The workshop was so much fun! I got to sit by wickedstitchery - who has a wicked sense of humor - and Juli. Sher and Lolly were at our table too. I thought aone was a great teacher and her techniques were so flawless! She told me (via our darling translator who worked so hard) I had natural technique and that my head was beautiful. :aheartbea Mr. Shigeta and Mikey liked him too! That just made my day. I've got my sleepy little boy on Zan's body right now. I have to buy him a SD13 body now. He's so sweet! I also got to pick up lots of faceup supplies and goodies at the booth in the corner. That new face sealer Zoukimuera (spelling?) developed apparently sets well in summer and winter!

Of course Sunday was wonderful because I got a shiney trophy. Thanks again to everyone for voting Kim and my entry for the SD Owner's Choice Award! It was her concept and my sewing - which is totally why I made her go up and I kept my ass at the table. :sweat We had the SD16 Amelia Little Red Riding Hood with the YoSD Piccolo Big Bad Wolf. Totally didn't expect anything for our entry and this just made us squeal a lot. All of the entries were to amazing! I know the overall contest winner - as determined by the Volks staff - was the entry with the bag-pipe playing hedgehog on the giant chicken. Does anybody know this fairytale? I've looked for information on it and have gotten a blank so far. Totally floored by the sheer amount of talent that was there over the weekend. The One-Offs were beautiful as well, I really loved the F-33, F-34, and the Cecil. I was also lucky enough to be able to pick up a SD16G kimono. Since I was fairly near the front of the line I really got to pick through and get the perfect kimono for Maddy. :aheartbea I got a "diamond" ring as my door prize - the exact item I got as a door prize last year! A strange aside being that I was at the jeweler the other day asking a question and this little old man came out and announced I'd be getting engaged in 2 months. O_o Freaky. So anyways, I traded with Juli for a beautiful necklace. Woot! The Gershwin was a lot of fun Sunday night - I even sold some SD16G clothing so I went home with money this year! Shock! And no car crashes - in fact we made amazing time coming home even with the two trucks that caught on fire going north. I've never seen a vehicle melted like that!

It was just so wonderful seeing so many of you again. I hope some of us are able to meet up more frequently! I think the most enthusiastic person was Anthony, you are such a sweetheart darlin! I got to wait in line with Lolly, talk to Leigh - yay for pictures of Quay, see Ashbet - thank you for "babysitting" on Saturday!, play lots and lots with rkold, sit with sumomo123 and her fiance - omg you were so cute in that BtSSB outfit!, and hang out with all you wonderful people! The exhaustion was totally worth it, so much fun! I can't wait for them to do this again! :aheartbea I didn't even mind being drafted to help move boxes Monday morning at F.I.T.

    19. wasn't that SURREAL?? LOL!!!!!!!!!!!! you must have said 6x to me "there's ricky martin" and it JUST was not computing. LOLLLL!!

      Friends 2b rocks.

I want to cut my feet off at the ankles. kthxbye.

    20. (LOL, I'm reading old posts now)

Thank you! It was soooooo nice to (finally!) meet you in person. I felt like I was sitting beside a celebrity. XDDDD Can't wait for next year (hopefully)!

And I guess I'm the official dollie-napper and people's-photos-harasser. LOL Need to get some time to edit my photos too. Why do we have to go work?!

    21. oh good grief, a celebrity, ha ha... I think I'm famous for things I SHOULD NOT be famous for, like taking topless piccies of my dolls. :sweat :sweat Zoinks!!! Looking at pics I'm also reminded of how I really need to go on a VERY serious diet, eepers.

    22. S2Kitty

I believe the rooster sculpt was the winners interpretation of the pied piper! The pied piper (of Hamlin?)played the music and led all the rats out of the city, an old fairy tale. The entry was the people's choice first place winner. i.e. she got the most votes of the attendees. She put a lot into this. I had never met her before but I sat next to her filling out the papers, as I had the second place voting award and asked if she put it together feather by feather and she nodded. we both got Sei Tenshi's for the voter's awards. - Barb

    23. I was under the impression that the ones who got sei tenshi were the Volks staff (as a whole) vote for first and second place. I say this because my trophy specifically says "Dolls Party in NY2 2007 Customize Doll Contest SD Owner's Choice Award" All the plates on the trophies were very specific.

    24. Thanks Sher,

amazing little fairy tale, I thought I had read of all grims and it is only my short term memory that is running away from me. - Barb

    25. isn't that wild? grimm's fairy tales are VERY... grim, LOL...lots of blood and death in them.

    26. Thanks a TON for that link Sher, now my curious little mind can be at ease. It was a spectacular entry. I wish I'd gotten pictures of it!

    27. I don't have my trophy to look at as it was too heavy to carry on the bus and a friend that was driving took it home.

The first winners were chosen by each of the Volks artists as their individual favorites so that would make sense as choice award. you were the choice of one of their artists. So the choice awards are very special indeed.

when they called mine it was announced as the second place people's choice award, so still a choice award but from the voting of the attendees.
might be that they all say choice award, but it will be a month or two before I get to a meetup and get mine back to read it.

was it not one of the best of times!!!!!!

      congratulations! Barb

    28. I got a garnet ring with a silver band.
My mom got this gorgeous silver and marcasite choker.
And my Dad got a pink and silver dog tag with a little key charm, he gave that one to me.

    29. I thought there were so many wonderful works for the Fairy tale entry..

and thanks Sher for the info on the giant chicken as I didn't know that tale at all.

I couldn't decide which entry was my favorite.. Kinda like the one offs, so many hard to choose.

Just glad that everyone had such a wonderful time and of course, can't wait til next year.. I think we may have outgrown FIT...LOL

    30. It was so hard to choose. So many beautiful entries, and so many beautiful One Offs (F-33 and Madoka being my favorites:aheartbea)..... So I'm thinking this year was a HUGE Success right? There were so many people this time around:fangirl: Rose did you guys manage to get a count as to how many people were there exactly?
      ~Anthony

    31. Thanks for the link, Sher! :aheartbea It was an awesome entry, but I was racking my brain trying to figure out what story it was from! That's an awesome and unique story! :daisy

Wow! :o You and your family got some wonderful gifts! :D Is was so sweet of Mr. Shigeta to give us a little present before we left. :chibi

    32. No, I was NOT one of the artists choice. All of the artist choice tropies said "Chosen by Mr. Enku" or "Mr. Shigeta" it had who chose what on the trophy. I know because I looked at all of them out of curiosity. You got second place over all as voted by their staff. The girl with the hedgehog got first place over all as voted by their staff. I got the SD Owner's Choice Award - which was voted for by the attendees.

    33. I just wanted to give a shout out to all the wonderful people I met at the party. What strikes me every time is how friendly and generous doll owners are.
And I find myself humbled in the presence of the wonderful people at Volks.

I am honored to be able to have given to such a great cause as Make a Wish. Toppi will forever remind me of the courage and yes, the sadness, of Sarah. Toppi will remind me to appreciate each day as the gift it is. Arigatou Sarah :)

To have won a Rei Tenshi, I felt like it came right from Sarah. I am truly fortunate and words cannot express how happy I am to have the opportunity to attend such a spectacular, loving event. :aheartbea :aheartbea :aheartbea

    34. I was SOO happy you won that toppi - she is a GORGEOUS, gorgeous Toppi!! And the rei tenshi was JUST the icing on the cake!!! so happy for you Karen!!

    35. Awwww... that is so wonderful and sweet. :chibi Thank you for giving to such a wonderful cause! :aheartbea Congratulations on your new angels!!! :D I'd love to see pictures of them together! :daisy

    36. Um, she did just specifically say she doesn't have her trophy and won't have it for a month, so can't look at it. :sweat

    37. *edited my last post* I don't mean to be snippy, I just feel like I'm being told I didn't win the award I did. :sweat

    38. Actually Barb did win second place chosen by the attendees. She was NOT one of the Volks picks.

I have no clue what the trophies said but I was sitting with her when she won. It was totally cool!!
      :D

    39. s2Kitty, as I posted before, congratulations again on your award. I was actually trying to give you very high praise for your award.

I don't pay that much attention to detail when everyone is having fun at such a great party, and I was probably on the cell phone conveying medical instructions to my son's caregiver while the first announcements were made. (the only way I could attend).

I had no idea that it was Volks who had voted anything for me. Barb in MA

    40. I think the count was about 250- 290 people including all the Volks staff since they did bring over alot of their staff from Japan..:love

    41. I had such a great time! I came home with two beautiful Kimonos (pictures to be posted later). I think of the one offs, my favorites were the f33 kitty boy and the Anais. All the one-offs were beautiful.

I really liked meeting Valico - I think she was just as excited as we were. I didn't realize it was her first dolpa! I learned a lot from the painting class. She called the faceup I did "very natural". On Sunday she walked by my table to take pictures of everyone's dolls - and asked if I had painted the eyebrows on my Liz. (They are crooked - haha!)

    42. There were the individual picks by each of the Volks staff. Then there was the attendee pick. Then there were the top two that were voted on by the entire Volks staff and they got Sei Tenshi as well. Mr. Shigeta's English was heart-felt, but slightly confusing I think. I think this will only be settled when we all have pictures of the trophies.

And congratulations on yours, you lucky girl! What does your Sei-Tenshi look like? And I feel really bad, but I can't remember which entry was yours. I kind of remember the hedgehog on the chicken getting first place and that was about it. :sweat They didn't read the descriptions of the winners, just called numbers and names really.

    43. Arrest this girl ... I was a witness and am willing to testify!
      She is a dolly-napper
It was super great to sit next to you and have so much fun.
Your drawing of Toppi was awesome!

    44. Ohhh WOW:fangirl: Well, my Lottery number that was givin to me upon arrival was 270*_* and I know I wasn't the last person to enter Dolpa on Sunday... What a Turn out:)
      ~Anthony

    45. Wow! What an amazing time! I'm hoping so much that they have a third one next year!! If so I am going no matter what! (and hopefully I'll have my Williams by then to tag along, hehe). It was so lovely to meet you all and everyone was so nice and open to me! Little Rini (my Suzuna) got SO spoiled with attention, I hope it hasn't gone to her head! I think she was the or one of the only Suzunas there, so she got a lot of "Kawaii!"'s! (Although I'm thinking her kitty outfits helped with that!). Thanks again you guys for all being so nice! It really made my first trip to NY and first Dolpa so special!

    46. Wow I think it was a huge success Rose. I can't thank you enough for helping me at th dolpa.

When I got home Sunday I told my husband next year he has to come so I can meet more people and he can watch the stuff. Plus we can take turns taking photos. He has jus a bit more experience with event photography than I do. My kids can stay with my parents.

    47. I was so happy that you won your Rei Tenshi. :) After your bid on the Toppi, it was great to see such a generous lady win. It's like dolly good karma comin' round... or, as you said, a little gift direct from Sarah.

(I'm still decompressing from the event and travel, so I need to catch up on this thread... but I just wanted to say how happy I am for you!)

    48. gotta put up some of the photos tomorrow after work, if I can recover from the weekend of dolpa.. I did see your Suzuna, and loved the way you styled her.. I almost think it would be cool to get one person to walk the floor with a camara and get shots of each table and all the dolls.. there were so many wonderful looks.. and of course get a shot of the surprised-happy-gleeful looks on everyone who won the lottery and one offs.. loved the expressions on winners faces!

    49. Thank you for your kind words. :) I will share pictures of my new babies in the gallery thread today. :aheartbea

    50. My number was 283 :) & there were more after me. ^^;;
I have not seen that many people in a LONG time. I was so glad to get back to DC. NY made me very nervous & jumpy. But it was a blast. We had a very lucky table, 5/8 people won in the lottery.

Is there a list of whose entry in the contest was whose? I'd love to identify them in my photos. (and who won what). I was so happy that the one I voted for got the prize, she was one table over from me & I was coveting her Sei Tenshi :)

    51. I think even though most of us didn't win anything at the lottery, we had soooo much fun rooting for the rest of you, that we shared your joy in winning. :)

Thank you all for making it such a memorable day for the rest of us. :aheartbea

    52. The ones that won the dolls were the people's choice. The artist awards were called first then there was the Volks general staff award and then the top 2 people's choice winners were called last. Though if you want to be sure, I think the event was recorded by someone there.

Anyway, congrats to all award winners. No matter what award it was it's definitely something very special.

    53. You can't really go by the numbers for the lottery though, because I had 146, and my friend who arrived a couple hours before me had 205, so the numbers were given out at random.

    54. At the begining it wasn't
Ginarolo got 67 and I got 68. We came in together. I was hoping to get 69 it's usually my lucky number but either way that number wasn't called either.

    55. And congratulations on yours, you lucky girl! What does your Sei-Tenshi look like? And I feel really bad, but I can't remember which entry was yours. I kind of remember the hedgehog on the chicken getting first place and that was about it. :sweat They didn't read the descriptions of the winners, just called numbers and names really.[/QUOTE]

Thanks also s2Kitty. mine was Luna in the knitted dragon kimono with the needlefelted dragon. I entered her as dragon princess but really she was my own happy ending idea, which was that instead of being princessy, she opened a shelter for homeless dragons who needed adoption. (as a cat person, you know the idea). The Sei Tenshi was one of the purple hair ones. and then my cousin who was my guest got called up for the lottery. So she went up saying that if she got a doll she would give it to me.... but she got the rei tenshi, came back to the table, opened the box and said "sorry, I have to keep this one". (and I cant blame her).

      Barb in MA

    56. One of my group was 69 and I was 96 ...sadly either way they were not lucky numbers that day.

Ah well, it was still an awesome time!

    57. My mother got the number right after me, but I *think* they had the numbers already written by our names? I actually can't remember, I was just wanting to run over to the FCS table really badly XD

    58. Now that's the Dolpa Spirit I love to see .. I too think that when others win, we all share in their excitment.. it's the best part of the hobby!
