Dolpa 2 in New York City Discussion

Jan 11, 2007

    1. I think we met too! I think I'm the only one who ordered an FCS Mimi, so I think we must have met. I wish I didn't have such a bad memory! Thank you for congratulating me on ordering my very first doll!! :aheartbea I'm going to go crazy until she arrives!

Awww, thank you! :blush You were sweet too! :chibi I think I may have accidentally gotten my sister addicted! She seemed to like the SD16 girls and guys the best, and when I came back to our table I found her holding Anthony's Yukinojo! My parents will kill me if she starts buying SDs too!

Oh yes! :o I definately remember talking to you in line! :daisy You had a big camera and were taping much of the event. It was great talking to you while we waited. :)

The food was lovely! :D It all looked so good! :drool But I was so excited and nervous that all I ate was a giant chocolate-chip cookie and a cup of coke. I know, what a healthy dinner, huh?

    2. At our table we were like, "OMG, the chopsticks thingie actually worked!!" XDDDDDD

    3. LOL I remember that now! You are SO right. :)

    4. LOL, I wonder who would that be... =P

And the whole thing with Mikey trying to pronounce your name will always be etched in my mind. XD

      Mikey: Sh... Shelly... eto...
me: ... gah, Sher didn't get her! DDD:
*massive screaming at the corner of the hall ensued*
      me: OMG, SHE DID!!!

    5. We love you. *grin*

    6. BEHOLD! THE MIGHTY SEI-TENSHI SUMMONING POWER OF THE CHOPSTICKS!!!! ...how come it's never worked for me?! XD

Congrats Brandon!!!! I screamed like mad when you won XD

    7. Eeeh, it didn't work for me either! I guess they only had power for one and Brandon was the one summoning stronger? LOL

BTW, how was your trip home? XD

    8. Aww! Thanks Naki~ I think I did too. LOL
I just remember saying "Don't forget to shake his hand" over and over again in my head.

    9. Eee! Brandon, you won a Sei!
Congrats, man! Make sure to post lots of pics of him! XD

    10. You bet I will. :)
I've already posted a couple in the Dolpa pix thread in the events gallery if you wanna see him.

    11. you are SOOOO adorable. I'm not sure I got a chance to say how sweet I thought you are, and what a pleasure it was to sit near you at the tea, seeing as how I was all kinds of busy trying to tackle you to keep you from stealing Needs-A-Name Anais after the tea was over.... :|:|:| (:fangirl::fangirl::D)

Hee--HEEE....... Lolly and I had a good laugh about that. It was SO nice to meet you, you are utterly adorable!!

    12. BRANDON he is an evil plotting little bugger!! I LOVE HIM!!!! he is SO CUTE!! congrats!!

    13. Oh he definately is. Those eyebrows tell all. :o

    14. Well, I was so tired by the end of it that I couldn't even knit on the bus home LOL and crashed pretty hard when I got home...slept erm...14 hours LOL

We had a great table with quite an enviable gathering of dolls, I must say...so much so that random doll-visitors kept ending up amidst them :D

Emil loves his suit...the shoes don't fit his wide feet, but they'll fit my FCS 31 when he arrives (eeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!)
Yea I know, it needs steaming but he was too impatient to wait...

      Nancy

    15. I just looked up that thread... and oh my god! He's got one heckuva lot of attitude! Cute lil' imp. <3

    16. I am curious to hear about what people thought about the face ups on all the one offs at Dolpa 2 NY? seemed to me they were all having darker colors and deeper intense face ups

    17. Rose, I really liked all the face-ups except for Madoka. I think her mouth was painted too big and dark. I also thought anais was gorgeous, and she is my holy grail but prefer her with softer colors. I thought Cecil was sensational and was my favorite. Also the F34 in brown tones was exquisite.

    18. I think they were beautiful, though I was surprised to see them in darker tones. Most of the Volks faceups I am used to seeing are much softer.
But you know me, I like em' intense. ;)

    19. yeah I'm with Brandon here, I loved loved loved the faceups!

    20. i LOVED the faceups too. Of course everyone is different - at last year's dolpa, I thought the dolls were all beautiful of course - but THIS year - :drool.... there were at least 2 that I really could have put my name in for, and about 4 that I just adored. So these, this year, were just more to my personal taste.

I think my anais is frickin' awesome. I am so excited. I think she's amazing!!!

    21. That was a great Dolpa!!!! So many more people in NY this time - there was hardly an empty seat at any of the tables!
So good to see and recognize people I guess I'll see only once a year at these dolpas - Janne and her daughter, Sher (whom I even recognized eating at a resturant away from dolls!), Yvonne, Lolly and linking faces with people I've only corresponded with like Barb and S2Kitty. And of course Anthony - whose pics don't do him justice LOL.
And the great Dollectable bunch! And super collector Nena and her good friend DanielFalls - I had some good laughs as usual with Nena! PonyGery....And Aznbutterfly with his as usual amazing models and even better handmade clothing. And 2 of the coolest ass-kicking females at the dolpa at MY table!!!!! You know who you are....plus my kickass in a different way medical student cousin who always likes looking at dollfies, who was also helpful this time in looking over a Volks employee who had hurt her foot - I hope shes ok.....
Pathetically sucked at painting the School head A, and after re-doing the eyebrow for the better part of 40 mins my brush went flat and the bristles flayed. Aznbutterfly, PonyGery and FatSweatyDog did some beautiful work on their heads! I've done a faceup before but my horrible paint job was probably because of not sleeping on Friday night. Ummm...yeah right. Surprised by the nice GAW calendars and more surprised by the GAW plaque that Mr Shigeta and Mikey gave me for bidding on the charity Anais in Los Angeles. Best part of the dolpa, even better than the one-offs and giveaways, at least for me, was the pj party on Sunday - took the most pics there! And unlike last year, I wasnt the only guy there! :sweat Worse part of the dolpa - the multiple lines! Short ones, long ones, one in particular that they made me get out of, lol....
Ok, early flight today, no sleep on the plane, and straight to work right off the plane to do the payroll! I know I'm getting tired because I've started to sing along with my ipod and yet another night without sleep because of the 3AM pickup to the west coast...time to exit the workplace...
      PICS later!!! Alex

oh, and sorry I didnt get to see wicked stitchery or JulieM, who made the badges....

    22. I really loved the Sch C...she was really beautiful, suprisingly so, definitely the one taht stuck w/ me

    23. Hee~! Alex~! Best review EVAH!!!!

      :aheartbea

    24. Would have loved to meet you Alex. I only just met Anthony at the very end of Sunday when we were called up for a mini photo shoot with the Tenshi gang.
There were SO many people there that I am sure I've spoken to here and didn't get to meet officially. That had to be the worst for me.

    25. Ok, so... where do I start? XDDD The one doll I couldn't stop taking photos of was the F-34 girl. Everything about her was just GAH perfect! The super glossy lips and eyelids were splendid, and even though I usually don't tend to go for dark and glossy, this one just blew my mind (now I know how I'll like my future girl to look like!) :whee: What a wonderful job Valico-san did on her! I'm so glad I was able to take a photo of her with the One-offs she styled and tell her how beautiful they are. XD

But gah, it was so difficult to choose; all of them were fabulous! :whee:

    26. I really liked the faceups on all the dolls. But then, I'm also one to go with darker, more intense looking ones. *holds up her own dolls as an example* The Lucas was my favorite.

    27. Jeaninha, I agree about the F34 girl. The brown tones were so gorgeous. And that wig on her. My girlfriend Amy won her, so we had the honor of this beautiful doll in the car with us on our way back to NJ.

    28. Brandon, I was so excited for you when you won the Sei-Tenshi, and than I saw you in line for Masha. Looked like you had a great day.
P.S. I'll be sending you some Band pics soon...LOL !!!

    29. And who was the doll in the black lolita outfit? I loved her dark gothic look.

    30. Oh man, that F34 girl was beyond gorgeous...she was my fave of the one-offs...your friend is SO lucky! I didn't try for any of them this year as I ordered an FCS and it would've had to be a sure-thing FCS or taking a chance to maybe win a one-off...so I went for the sure thing LOL but it made it easy to cheer for everyone who lucked out with the one-offs since I hadn't tried for any LOL Overall, I liked this year's one-offs better than last year's with the exception of this year's Madoka who I didn't like at all...and I usually love Madoka...

      Nancy

    31. Thanx so much Marianna.
It really was a great day indeed. I finally named the little one 'Sakoshi' and I'm truly in love. Now I'm anxious to see Masha in person again. She will be my first white skin doll in some time.

    32. I had an absolute BLAST!!!!!!!! It was AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!! And the ending was just the cherry on my Sunday. It was AWESOME:fangirl: I met so many awesome people. I Got to see a lot of my friends again Sharon, Geri, JulieDC, Kitty, Devon, Julie M, Lolly, Armelia, Sher, Rose, Laura, Nancey, romanesque_gothic, Paula, Scoot and Just so many others!!! And meet a lot for the first time, most noteablly Nathankatt whom was the coolest, (We've got to hang out next time;) And yes, the pictures of me are so not the greatest:( I was just so freakin happy about my Lilith.... That and I'm just not a photogenic guy, but at least I'm pretty in person:sweat Just Kiddy:sweat) and So many others for the first time, like Cammy and her sweet sister, the GORGEOUS JennyNemesis, Wickedstitchery, nathankatt, Junkets, AreElf, Bruce, Finally got to meet Bruce:fangirl: Just awesome freakin people whom I hope to see next year again if not sooner;)... Now off to post my pictures in the gallery thread:sweat
      ~Anthony

    33. That F34 is now my dream girl. She is so beautiful, and that faceup really showed me what possibilities that mold has.
The Black Lolita girl was the School C. She was also gorgeous.

I had the best time and I would like to personally thank all of those Tri-State Angels, who were the behind the scene angels, especially Rose, just because she is so cute, and Laura because she was so tireless! And then she won that adorable MSD! So fun.

    34. Oh, Anthony you'll make me blush! :blush You were so sweet and kind to me. :daisy We even have the same favorite Greek myth! :aheartbea I was so happy when you won a Sei Tenshi! :dance

Stella, when you were called up it was so much fun shouting your name! :D I always wanted an excuse for shouting "Stella!!!" like in "A Streetcar Named Desire"! You were so lucky to win such lovely zoukeimura glass eyes!

Tobey I'm so glad you won a Show to add to your collection! :aheartbea He's such a versatile head mold! :) You can make him anything you want him to be. Maybe he can be your Olivia's younger brother?

WickedStitchery, were you the one who made the beautiful Blue Fairy and Pinocchio entry in the Customizing Contest? It was so sweet and pretty! :chibi Congratulations on winning your Sei Tenshi!

Lolly, thank you so much for letting me hold Princess Tutu Frufru! :daisy I'm sorry I had to leave so suddenly just when we were beginning to have a nice talk. :( But I was fascinated by the story behind her name! Thanks for telling me! :)

By the way, what did everyone get as a parting gift from Mr. Shigeta? I got a lovely, lacy, black and white flower necklace for my girl, and my sister got the prettiest dolly earrings with little crown charms on them.

    35. Heh, it's so great and funny how people call me Stella. I love that name, it's my daughters (LOL, I keep looking down for the little red head of curls!). Love it!
My voice is still not the same after screaming so much(yeah ok it was me) esp. for Anthony and Sher. And Donna who was Ms. #1 at Lottery. Spooky how they gave her the perfect outfit!

    36. omg stella's NOT your name?? :sweat*_* I didn't know that! what is it? (sherry, who was amongst the folks who call you Stella) LOLLL

    37. Pictures are up on my site, on the events section, I still need to add the full choice system pictures and the owner pictures, but I am really sleepy.

      Geri

    38. Oops! I'm sorry! :sweat

Geri, your little Yos were so sweet! :D Valico seemed to adore your little girl, and your boy had the coolest outfit! :love It was great to finally meet you! :daisy

    39. Just got back this am. So tired! But I had sooooo much fun.

Mr. Shigeta rocks! I had just got there for the class Satruday, and notcied I seemed to be one fo the few people with an "oldskin" doll (my Nasia) there, when Shino and Mr. Shigeta came over to see my Nashya. They were so excited I brought her. It made me feel so much better, surrounded by all those expensive limiteds and FCS beauties, that they were pleased to see a 2nd hand Nashya at the party and happy to let Susieq take out picture together.

I was so nervous I could ahrdly say a thing. Luckilly, Shino was there to translate.

I'm so happy to meet many of the wonderful people I know here: Stella Maris, Lisanthus, Susieq, Janne, Nakitama, nofunangie, and others who I did not get their names and soooo many beautiful dolls. There are so many differnet angles to this hobby.

I got to watch two of my friends order FCS. Shino did susieq's order.

Valico was so cute. She doesn't speak much english and seemed pleased to be able to speak in her own language some. Although I think her enthusiasm trancends the need for words. She clearly loves her job and SD. Everything was "sugoii". The minute she heard I did my doll up as Otohime, she ran away from our table to the costume display and took about a zillion pics of her which she showed me later.

Mr. Ota who did our class demo was awesome and he restrung my Nashya later at the "Doll Doctor".

I didn't get lucky with either the lotto, the costume contest or the one-offs but Masha is coming home to me soon!

On the way out Mr. Shigeta handed my my parting gift (Volks eyeglasses!) and I got to thank him (in Japanese).

    40. OH NO!!!! Lyrajean, I forgot to take pictures of our Nasias together, and of my F-10 and Hana!!!!! :...(

PS- Jaeninha, my train ride went fine, thanks to you!! Thanks for going with me, I appreciate it soooooo much, and so did my mom! She was worried about me, but she felt much better when I told her I went with a friend. :3

    41. Nakitama, thank you so much for letting me hold your beautiful Jorie! :D He's even sweeter in person, and he's the first SD I've ever held. :chibi I think he and my girl will get along wonderfully once she arrives. :daisy And thank you for showing me how to bend their legs properly! :abow: That should save me a lot of grief! :)

WickedStitchery, your little Sei Tenshi looks almost wicked! It's so mischivously cute! :aheartbea Don't trust him with that needle! ;)

    42. Sharon I have to say Sunday I was getting confused myself. I usually try to call you Sharon irl and StellaMaris at DoA. I usually let my friends call me Aree irl and I forgot to tell them to call me Aree at work so the only people who call me Antonnette are my own parents and co-workers

Cammy I forgot to say it was so fun watching you get your FCS I didn't make the connection til after, that it was you. I was sitting right next to Cammy who was all excited about her FCS as I got mine done. I forgot to say I'm now waiting on a sunlight skinned F13 elf with red hair, golden brown eyes and mischievious nature.

I feel so bad I didn't get to meet more people rirl there were so many people at the event

    43. Ah Nakitama that was your Heath I met! Gorgeous boy. The first time I've ever seen a Heath in person and I definitely wasn't disappointed. He looked like he could be my Madoka's brother too. :)

    44. And there I seriously thought that Aree was your real name. XDDDD

That pretty Madoka beside Otonashi (Nakitama's Heath) is yours?? She's totally gorgeous! I'm a bit disappointed the lighting there wasn't that good for photos (coz I hate to use flash in my camera, it literally washes out everything) or I'll have taken gazillion photos of her. :whee:

    45. AreeElf, you were the lady sitting next to me when I was doing my FCS order? :o You were so calm and sweet while I was all gittery and excited! :daisy You ordered an MSD Sunlight boy, right?

    46. Yes that was me. My nickname is Aree pronounced like Ari

    47. Cammy, you're welcome!! I'm so glad you liked him! I bet Claudia and Jorie will look good together. Do I see an F-04 in your future??? :wiggle

zalem, Oh, yours was that fabulous Madoka at the Gershwin!! She was incredible, and they really made quite a pair! And thank you for the compliments on Heath!! I loved the contrasting color palates on them, heehee! :)

    48. Oh man, that Lucas!! I was deeply hoping for him; but I am realistic enough to know how the odds were NOT in my favor..:>

I did like all the darker looks except the Madoka as well. Her lips looked overdone, but I will say she was drop-dead amazing on the S-16 body...
      Holy Crap! ;)

    49. *Blush* I'm sorry for nearly forgetting, especially since you were sitting right next to me while I was ordering my girl! :sweat I hope your boy comes out beautifully! :aheartbea

    50. I know what you mean.... and as it turned out, the majority of new people that I ended up in conversations with aren't even on DoA

    51. Yes, that was her. :) I thought they looked great next to each other. Too bad I couldn't take pics with anything but flash. >_< But the lighting at the Gershwin was terrible for dolly pics. At least I have some pics though.

    52. That's ok and I'm ordering a girl not a boy. I don't have any boy dolls. Not allowed to have any

    53. I really wish I'd stuck around for the after party now:fangirl: It looked like so much fun, and all of the One Offs were there:aheartbea
      ~Anthony

    54. For people at the Gershwin on Sunday night after the Dolpa, did anyone take an extra jewelry box gift set by accident? They all look alike from the outside so it would have been an easy thing to mistake as your own.

A pair of tinted glasses went missing; please pm me if you found them.

    55. You know, now that I think about it, the coloring of Claudia's makeup is going to be very similar to Jorie's! :o I didn't plan it that way, but I bet they will look lovely together! :chibi

And I certainly hope I get an F-04! :D I planned on eventually getting an FCS White-skinned Nono named Lenore, and a White-skinned MSD F-04 girl as her younger sister, Eulalie. :aheartbea

If you know where I got their names, I'll give you a cookie! ;)

    56. Oh dear, I goofed again! :sweat I bet your girl will be lovely, and thank you for being to nice to me when I was all excited and nervous! :D

    57. Edgar Allan Poe?

    58. Bingo! :thumbup *Gives Aree a giant cookie like at the Dolpa dinner*

    59. I got a sterling silver link chain necklace ... it's a little too rock'n'roll biker for my little girl, but cute nonetheless;) ... perhaps I'll trade with someone...

    60. I got a pair of Volks glasses!!!! the rimless pair!!! What a nice thing to give away...and expensive too....Alex
