Dolpa 2 in New York City Discussion

Jan 11, 2007

    1. Wow that was a hardone between fairytale and medieval. I choose fairytale

    2. These little surveys are fun :) And I did end up picking fairy tale ;)

    3. It's so wonderful that they are letting us choose what we want it to be like. :chibi I definately chose Fairy Tale because Sleeping Beauty is my favorite story. :aheartbea

    4. I did not pick Fairy Tale. :wiggle I wanna see them try reality for a change!!

    5. I chose fairytake ^^ I wonder if they're really gonna use the surveys! ^^ Now if only I had work to save up to buy things!! I'm so excited!

    6. How does the Customization contest work anyway?

And it's sounding more & more like an honest & true Dolpa since they're having the contest & the classes. :fangirl: Any one know if they're going to have dealers there? That would just be icing on the cake!

      Morgan

    7. If it's anything like the Halloween costume contest, all entries are assigned a number and everyone at the party could vote for one design. At the Halloween teaparty there were 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners, and then President's Choice and Mikey's Choice winners.

I agree this is much more like a Japanese dolpa than last year's NYDP, it's very exciting! I don't think there will be any vendors this time around, they seem to be saving that for the big fall LA dolpa ^^

    8. I picked New York because I think it would be far more interesting to see people's interpretations of what New York means to them. =D

    9. This is really cool that Volks is taking so much time to get the audience's opinion on things before the event! Choosing a theme was hard though, because I like the sound of all three. :)

    10. I voted for New York - I think we've seen medieval and fairy tales enough from Volks xD I mean, we just got new limiteds released around the Frog Prince. I'd like to see some more urban, realistic stuff for a change.

    11. Of course I picked Fairy Tale! that was a no brainer.

    12. Medieval. ;)

    13. How did I know you would? ;)

      I picked New York. :)

June can't come soon enough!!! :D

    14. I voted Fairy Tale.. I'm such a sucker for those! :D Only a few more months left until June!

    15. I picked New York, because, even though I won't be entering, I think it would be neat to see what people think up for that theme.

    16. I chose fairytale :) I love fairytales, always have. When I read New York, I thought of a doll dressed up as a yellow taxi cab*_* . May sound stereotypical, but I'm always amazed at the number of them when we go in.

    17. I picked other- High Fashion!
      I thought it fitting. ^_^
I'd love to see fairytale, though!

      *Jen

    18. New York (,New York)! Alex

    19. I picked fairytale. I couldn't workout in my head how New York would be done. But there's so many fairytales to choose from, I think it'll be interesting to see what people do.

    20. Hmmm, I picked New York. I guess it just has to do with the fact that I grew up on Long Island. But I think any of them would be interesting to see what people came up with.

    21. Has volks done a contest like this before in LA?

How does it work do you have to handmake your own outfit from scratch or can you create it with bought pieces?

And then there is a prize?

    22. Well the one in LA worked like this. You set your dolls up on a table and filled out paperwork to get a number for the doll. Everyone receives a voting ballot and votes for their favorite costume. So if it is made from "found" pieces, the others are going to know obviously and probably not vote for you.

Of course, there are the judges awards (Mikey and the President) which could be anything. So there is still a chance you can win without winning the votes.

    23. I voted for new york (glad to see I'm not the only one!). I've got a greenwich or 80s club-kid theme going through my brain now...

    24. I picked Fairytale because I love them and already have ideas for costumes.:)

    25. Oh my, I wonder what limiteds Volks will offer at this Dolpha. Anyone want to hazard a guess?

    26. I'm still praying for a snow-skinned Sweet Dream Nono one-off! :D Please pretty please!! :eusa_pray

    27. Boo-yaaa! :dance We have utterly got to recreate the entire cast of "Desperately Seeking Susan"!

Either that, or I'll pay someone good money to do up their SD16 Amelia up like Karen Finley: half-naked, with "DADDY" scrawled on her body in lipstick, screaming obscenities, covered in glitter, and throwing blood-splattered easter eggs at an audience in a needle-littered basement somewhere in the East Village. If that ain't the soul of 80s NY, well, I dunno what is. XDD Watching Britney Spears get stoned & shave her head, recently, it really makes me miss the good old days of performance art.

    28. AHHAHAHAHA YES!

    29. I wish there were one-off's we could win for free XD Instead of having to buy them. That would be cool, but alas, it doesn't work that way.

I'm hoping on seeing the dolly doctor, and checking out workshops!

    30. I'd like to see another Jun or Olivia or Madoka one-off in chic regular clothing (gasp, I want girl bjds???)....or isnt it about time to see a one-off Yukinojo??!!! Maybe in tanned skin???? Alex

    31. Or a rerelease of him in sunlight! We're due for another SD16 boy anyway~

    32. It's true that they're not free but they are still a good "deal" in my mind if you can win one, considering they're around the same price of the regular addition of the doll. It's more costly and time consuming for Volks to make a doll with a one of a kind outfit and face up then make hundreds of them with the same outfit/face up. People would probably be willing to pay even more for such dolls so I think the prices of them are quite fair :)

I'm hoping for a Jun one-off..even if she was wearing a sack I would probably go for her, I want a Jun so badly :eusa_pray

    33. xD I'm actually kind of hoping -not- to see any one-offs that I'll fall absolutely in love with - I can't afford them! And it would make me sad to see my dream Tsukasa all done up and fancy just out to my reach @_@

How many of us are planning to do an FCS while there? I know I am - I think I'm finally going to get my Kun boy, though I can't decide if I want him as an SD or SD13 xD

    34. I don't want to see any one-offs that I have to have either XD But good luck to everyone who wants one ^__^

Obscurity: I think you should get a Kun boy on an SD body (I'm not biased or anything XD)

    35. If I get to go, the thing on the very top of my list is getting my FCS snow-skinned SD Girl Mimi. :aheartbea I've been dreaming about her for so long, and I can't afford a trip to LA. :( She'll be my very first doll.... :chibi

    36. I wish there's going to be a one-offs Yukinojo or Willaim... i would die!

    37. I hope you'll get your Mimi fast, I find it terribly adorable that you've been so fixated on that doll for as long as I've been on this forum, your comments on Volks topics are so sweet and always brighten up my day :love

    38. Really?? :D Awwww!! :blush That is so sweet of you to say! :chibi That brightens my day! :3nodding: I hope if we get to go, we can hang out together. :cheer Your dolls are so pretty. :)

    39. Thank you^^ unfortunately I can't attend, I'll just have to experience it through photos :aheartbea

    40. I want to do FCS SD13 ELF F-31. I am hoping for a Cecile one- off. I didn't win last time.:...(

    41. Darn. :( Well, if I can borrow my sister's camera, I'll take some to show you. :) And once I get my Mimi, I'll take lots of pictures to celebrate! :D

    42. I'm looking forward to that! :chibi

    43. I understand all that :) It would still be cool though. ^_^
It's not gonna stop me from going!! :fangirl:

    44. I can't wait! :D

    45. I'm planning on getting another white skin SD13 boy. Beyond that I've no clue. ;)

      Morgan

    46. I voted for Pirates... because I'm crazy like that. :kitty2

    47. I hope they have no one-offs whatsoever, just so I won't have to fall in love. Danger, danger, danger! :aheartbea I sweartagawd, if they put up a one-off Shiro, I am screwed... I will be so screwed... I do not need triplets... ;;;

    48. So me and my boyfriend are planning to buy our plane tickets tommorw. I'm not exactly sure which flight/air ports are best so maybe people who went last year or are from the area can help?

About what time did everything end last year? I want to fly out on Sunday night as I need to get back for my finals. I'm not even sure what events will be Sunday and what will be Saturday, does anyone have an idea?

The airport I'm finding the cheapest flights to/from is Newark. How far away is this? Is there a way to get there on public transport and if not how long would it take me to get there by cab?

      Thanks!!

    49. I'm planning on getting an FCS while there. I'm leaning toward an msd deciding between face 12 or 13 right now

    50. Katie, this travel-site lists just about every travel-option to and from every New York area airport you could want. :)

Like, even helicopters. Aww! I wanna fly right onto the roof of my hotel in a big white Sikorsky! Maybe someday, when I grow up.

    51. I'm planning on an MSD F-12 too!! :love

    52. Boy I'm going to be one angry girl if I don't get selected for this thing. I've reserved a hotel room, I'm going to be purchasing my tickets in the next few days, and I'm thinking about buying some theater tickets for my hubby and I to see one of the extra evenings we're staying in the city. If they tell me that either myself or my husband can't go, I'm probably going to cry! (I keed. But I will be pretty stressed out.)

There shouldn't be a problem with either of us getting in, we're both Volks owners (he doesn't have a card yet) and I think I am going to subscribe him to FDQ so that we're fairly safe.

    53. I've been thinking the same thing, lol. I live in MD and go up to nyc sometimes anyway, so I haven't had to make any significant travel plans, but I am just so psyched to go to one of these events! I'm trying not to get too excited, just in case, but I really want to go! Several people on here have said that they don't know anyone in the past who has wanted to go and hasn't gotten an invitation, so here's hoping!:aheartbea

    54. Does anyone know yet how we can actually get invitations? I have a membership card and everything, but never received past invitations.. do you think they will have us register somewhere or something?

    55. You'll probably have to send an email or register on their site and then they will verify that you have one of the three variables for going and then send invites. I'm just hoping that there is room for everyone who wants to go. Both my husband and I are going to the party, since we're both collectors, and I'll be sad if one or neither are allowed to attend.

    56. Just my opinion based on what happened last year I don't think you have any worries Lizzegirle, last year I think everyone who wanted to go got in. They had a nice large space and although many attended, it' snot like the fire department was in danger of being called or anything. It was a really big room. There seemed to be room for more, I thought.

    57. Yes, but this year people have more time to plan and go. I've never had a problem with the Volks LA parties either, but you never know! heh. If I was really worried, I wouldn't have booked everything already. :)

    58. Also the people who are allowed to go can bring a guest so if worst comes to worst anyone who didn't get invited can beg and plead and cry until someone says that they can come with them.

Or at least I think you can bring a guest...

    59. Yeah, I'm not sure if they are allowing guests this time. And if they do, I will have to try and beg to get myself and my husband in. I think he is looking forward to it just as much as I am! :D

    60. My boyfriend and I just went and booked our plane and Hotel :D I'm super excited about the trip! Now I just gotta start saving up for a possible one-off or special release for the event ;)
