Dolpa 2 in New York City Discussion

Jan 11, 2007

    1. I felt the same way but I think fashion dolls have been growing on me! ...maybe I've been watching too many reruns of Alias *laughs*

    2. I HOPE they release a New SD16 Boy... Maybe Amelia's Price Charming:love and more Fashionable Outfits for the SD16 Girl:D That would be an absolute Dream come true for me:)
      ~Anthony

    3. An SD16 boy would be wonderful, but I think Volks made too big of a deal about Amelia and Kurt at the last Tokyo Dolpa to make the next doll in the series a US-only release, although they could surprise us. Two unrelated SD16 boys in one year would be great though, too ;)

    4. My collection is restricted to tinies and MSD because of space, so an MSD in a fashion doll style would be nice. I guess that would be SDC?

    5. I'm excited. I get to go! It will be my first real Dolpa event--I went to the tea party and got my first BJD, Olivia. And the outfit just arrived. I have no idea what to expect, though. And thank goodness my inlaws live in Manhattan, so I have a place to stay. I've already told them to expect me in June. hehe.
      Pam

    6. I think the word Dolpa might mislead one to think of this as an event with many vendors like in the Dolpas in Japan. This even is only volks no other venders and last time there was a dinner with tables all set up to site down and each in the center of the room and then down one end of the room and a few other areas displays of dolls and dolls for a lottery which you could win the chance to buy. Then the 3 hours or so were spent eating and playing bingo and looking at the dolls for the lottery and the display of the new SD16 and also a few short talks by the president of volks.

Of course it was also an opportunity to see others owners with dolls!
I am not into the SD16 so hoping there will be another offered too such as a msd or sd or yo :)

    7. will they give away Sei-Tenshi angel babies like they do at the Dolpas in Japan and like they did at the volks store opening in LA? PLEASE?! i'm dying searching for my own...

    8. Most likely yes as they did last time and at all the LA tea parties though the odds of winning one aren't good :/ Actually off topic ^^; but there is currently a very cute sei-tenshi on YahooJapan that I noticed: http://page6.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/f50274200

    9. mxiong- They also gave them at the first Dolpa NY and the Holloween Party.
Since *Rei-Tenshi* will be released in Feb at the Huis Ten Bosch tour in Japan, my guess would be they would offer/raffle/bingo those instead of Sei. ^__^
You'll probably have the best of luck looking for a Sei on Y!J.

I am actually hoping for some re-releases! Particularly Momoko SD. ^__^
Oh lord I am going to die..... FCS!!!!! Do I see a sunlight MSD in my future? *squints my eyes really tight to get a better look* Nahhhh. :( My trip to Japan next month will leave me broke for all eternity, and I am *not* staying close to sato! :(
      *Jen

    10. What are Rei-Tenshi?

    11. The smallest Super Dollfies that will be unveiled for the first time at the Huis Ten Bosch event.

    12. Are rei tenshis going to be smaller even than sei tenshi?

As much as I want a sei tenshi I'm on a save for FCS if I can go to Dolpa NY mode now. That one is really cute too

    13. Yes, as I said, they are the smallest. At least that's what the SD growth chart in one of the Volks books illustrated, so unless they changed them from the prototype, they will be smaller than Sei Tenshi.

    14. Oh I can't wait till we get to see Rei-tenshi!! :D I bet they will be so adorable. :chibi

I've got my heart (and wallet) set on my FCS white SD girl, but it would be a dream come true if they had a white Sweet Dream Nono one-off there! :love

I know, I'm obsessed in my quest for a white Sweet Dream Nono. :aheartbea

    15. Hi! I was wondering what book the Rei-Tenshi were shown in, or the growth chart that showed them.

      :)

    16. ^
They have not been released yet. They are being released for the first time at Volks Huis Ten Bosch tour in Feb. I will be sure to take as many pics as I can of them!!!! ^_______^
I think the growth chart is somewhere online, too.
I think its in SD Bible as well.
      *Jen

    17. I am SO excited!!!!! I can't wait!!!!:)

    18. The chart is in the Super Dollfie Encyclopedia which is part of the "Another Yourself" set. It may also be in others but I know it's not in La Carte D'un Ange, at least.

    19. What about the painting class, what heads will be availabe? I'm mostly interesting the sleeping School A here -- was that a Dolpa 16 exclusive (was it even released then) and will it be available at this one?

At this point, I'm genuinely hoping that if there is a special release doll, it'll be a fashion doll that I won't be interested in. I suddenly want a FCS doll, and the less money I need to save, the better. XD

    20. It is a Huis Ten Bosch tour exclusive, there's been no word of it being released anywhere else yet.

    21. Even if it's not a true "Dolpha", I'd be grateful for just another Tea Party, but with a painting class Etc. it makes it even more appealing! I can't wait. I'm also not a big SD-16 person, but the Olivias were really fun to look at! I'm also hoping to be able to get Kohana into the doll doctor this time, as my three year old played iwth her one day when we weren't home (hello, babysitter?) and now she's a little, very, loose!

    22. I'm hopeing to get a Volks SD Sara soon. I hope i'll get her before June! O H DARN! I JUST realized i still have school...hey i can skip the last week...cant I?
      >.>
      <.<
If you cant go a few states over by yourself...AKA you're to young...can you bring someone else in with you?

      TC

    23. question, i have a volks card they sent me when i bought things from volksusa.com, i has a number on it too, am i able to go to the tea party then? i can't go this year, but next year i wanna try and go. :) i might a msd mika too, so i guess that would allow me to go to, correct?

    24. I'm pretty sure the card was made so people could just bring it to the events to get access.

    25. I'm with Stella Maris, I'm just thrilled that Volks is having an another event on the East Coast...in the fabulous Big Apple no less! :D Even if all we get is a chance to galk at all the dolls in the room, eat tasty food, and meet like minded people into these dolls, it'll be worth the four hour roadtrip for me! And Pat Henry always works at making anything she touchs perfect, so I know it'll be another top notch bash. If we could actually have a head painting class, I'd be over the moon! Not to mention, the opportunity to play in one of my favorite cities...what's could be better? Can't wait to see old friends, and make some new ones. :)

      Hugs, Juli DC

    26. I think it would be great if FDQ could arrange the dollpa to carry the SD16G dress sets that have been released thus far, with the exclusion of the Olivia and Amelia defaults and FDQ exclusive Olivia ensemble.

    27. HIIII Juli:D
I'm right there with you sweetie, I'm just SOOOOO Glad actually over the moon about the fact that Volks is holding another Event on the East Coast, and at the same Amazing Place:) I can't wait to go this year, and see you and Stella Maris, and maybe even PonyGery..... It would be great to sit with you guys again, Our table just clicked and had such an awesome Vibe:fangirl:
      ~Anthony

    28. I'm so excited that they'll be having another event in NYC!! I had so much fun last year, my parents have already started arguing over who has to take me (they don't like dolls very much...).

    29. -delayed reaction-

I desperately want to go ^_____^

Hopefully, I'll have my boys by then. (And I find it a bit funny that I finally convinced my parents to take me to LA to order my FCSs...and now FCS will be available just a few miles away -headdesk- XD)

    30. I'm with Juli! I can't wait. My first was the Tea Party in NY last year and it was so much fun. I'll be there with my Olivia (my only one so far! Just wait...).
      Pam

    31. i'm hoping they will do another one next year! i can't make it this year, but maybe next year i can go. :) I hope to have a msd mika by next year too, last one i'm getting.

    32. I agree Anthony! I can't wait to see everyone. And I read in FDQ they're going to do FCS!!!!!!!! I'm so excited! Do you think, does anyone out there want to guess if they are going to have Sunlight skin, or will they just have what is availible in LA?

    33. Well I mapped out my finals schedule and my first final isn't until June 12th so I could go :D Though I'm not sure if traveling across the country before finals is a good idea. I want to go so badly though!! Maybe I could study on the plane. ^^;;

    34. It would be 8 hours of enforced studying--that can't be too bad! :)

    35. That thought crossed my mind too. Maybe it would actually be good for me academically ^^;;; (or so I tell myself)

I probably will go though as soon as they finalize the date. I don't know if it's too early to get a plane ticket or if I would get a better deal if I waited. Looks like the cheapest flights from San Francisco to NYC is about $350 with all fees included. I don't know if this is a good deal or not.. but looks like I really need to start saving for this trip starting now!

    36. Gah! I want to go so bad! My best friend should be living in NYC by June, so maybe I could stay with her. I'd be bringing my Yo-SD Anne along. I got one of those little credit card looking things with Toppi on it in the mail...even though I've never bought anything directly from Volks....hmm, maybe because I put my girl on the owners list?

    37. I think I'd like to save up for the makeup class if nothing else, but I've got to admit I have a nigglin lil question. Do you think that if they do FCS at the NY Dolpa that there will be sunlight skin option?

    38. As Stella already knows I'm anticipating the FCS. How does the makeup classes work?

    39. Yay! Dolpa in NYC! Even if it might not be a true dolpa.... I am really excited. I live in New York State so I might just be abel to convince my parents to take me there for my 16th birthday as a present. *Squeels*

    40. Are the dates definitely set yet? Or is it still tentatively June 9-10?

    41. I think it's just tentative. I think they'll anounce exactly when it is on the website.

Being new to Dolpas, I'm curious, how does admission work? Can you just go? Do you need a ticket? Is there a lottery? (-clueless- XD)

    42. I've been thinking about something, and now it's starting to bother me... Maybe someone could help me with it?

If they have FCS orderings, do you think I'll have to wait for a long time on a line and miss a lot of the socializing and activities? Cause I want to order a FCS, but I don't know if it's worth it if I have to miss a big chunk of the party... :sweat Have they ever done FCS at a dollpa before? Maybe they'll have us take numbers and then call us up when it's our turn? Hrmm.... *_*

PS- Congrats on ordering your dolls Satoshi!!! How was it?!

    43. They haven't announced all the details for this year yet, but when they did it last year, it was on a lottery basis. We *do* know it'll be at the Fashion Institute of Technology again, which means space is somewhat limited.

They haven't done it at a US Dollpa before--this'll be a first! :) I sure hope they handle it with numbers and calling people up (that's how they handle the doll doctor) because choosing your full-choice doll takes 20 minutes or so, even if you *know* what you want when you go in. Making decisions on the spot takes much longer... :)

    44. Thanks! ^____^! It was amaaaaazing! I had a lot of fun! But the wait (today is Day 8 XD) is a killer. Honestly, I could babble for ages about it XD!

      Thanks for the info ^__^

-wishing everyone good luck if it's a lottery-

    45. FCS usually takes around 45 minutes to an hour for most people, I'd think they'd have several staff members doing it.

      Eligibility/admission is outlined here.

    46. Yeah, I really hope they do it via a numbers system. That would make it easier for everyone I think. :) I wanna order a cute little MSD F-12!!! :love

45 minutes to an hour? Wow, I really need to get all my details hammered out ahead of time. If that's the average time, then tack another hour onto that and that's how long it would take me! I'm so indecisive! X3

I wonder if they'll be serving some food again? I sure hope so! I would have fainted if I hadn't eaten something at the NYC Tea party! Especially during the bingo XD

    47. Well didn't they say it would be two days? Maybe one of the days will be devoted to FCS. I think at the first LA party they had the party for one day and then the next day the store was open for ordering FCS dolls.

    48. If I remember correctly, not everyone was able to do FCS at the first LA event, and at the last NY Dolpa, I think they only took around 20 or so people who got to see the doll doctor as well. I would not be surprised if not everyone can order FCS and it's either first come first serve with numbers handed out like the doll doctor or some sort of lottery.

In my limited experience of ordering FCS it can be as fast as 20 minutes to as long as 1 hour. I've always enjoyed it.

    49. Yes rkold's right, at the first LA event not everyone was able to do FCS. You were able to get a FCS ticket based on your place in line (which was drawn via lottery). Volks even extended to include a few "waitlist" FCS tickets for people as well. At the last LA event however for the new FCS elves, you got a ticket for FCS based on how early you came to the store to wait in line.

      Note that if you go to the doll doctor or do FCS, you may miss out on the raffles or other activities depending on your place in line. Last LA event I was near bouncing in my seat because I was visiting the doll doctor very close to the time for the oneoff lottery. ^^;

    50. I just hope that I could do the makeup class, and that they will sell the bodies to go with our heads. That might satisfy me. If I have enough $$$$ I would love to do FCS as well. At the NY Dolpha last year I got my beautiful one off MSD F-06.
I looked at the F 12s, they are really cute Nakitama! I hope you can get yours.

    51. I just hope I get the chance to take the makeup class, I really really want to learn better techniques. I'd love to get a FCS kid as well, but somehow doubt I'll have the money and I don't think they'll have sunlight skin. I want a F09 sunlight MSD girl and a F31 SD13 sunlight boy. I like the other skin tones, but I really want a Volks tan kid cause I love their shade of tan.

    52. I didn't realize you had to win a lottery just to attend the Dolpa. In the other NYC Dolpa thread that Usagi linked to, Am said that the various criteria (being a FDQ subscriber, having purchased Olivia, being in the database) were used to determine who would be invited. Does that mean that if you get an invitation, you are being invited to enter the lottery to possibly win a chance of attending?
I understand that space is limited at FIT so it has to be done this way, but I am seriously bummed, lol. I had my heart set on attending this year but now I don't want to get my hopes up.

    53. Every teaparty/dolpa in the US so far has had the rule that if there are too many people attending, there will be a lottery for invites. The criteria to attend that Am posted up does still apply; the invites are given out to that pool of names that meet the criteria. It seems that no one is guaranteed entry yet (unless you bought Olivia's exclusive FDQ outfit).

If it works the same as the last NY party, there is a lottery for the invitations, and once you have an invite, that's it, you're able to get in. I wouldn't feel so bummed though, I haven't seen anyone on the board say that they didn't get into a Volks party in the long run when they had applied to go.

    54. Yes, there was plenty room for everybody in NY last year, although there was an impressive turn-out, we weren't breaking the fire code or anything! I don't think you have to worry, I don't think anyone who wanted to go was denied, LOL. I brought a guest with me that I didn't know before (TheBeautifulDoll) and it turned out to be a great experience. They allowed a guest, and we found each other on the forum.

    55. That Would have been me:sorry Thank you so much for the AMazing experience Stella Maris.... If it weren't for your kind heart, I would have never had the chance to bring my beautiful Boy home, Not to mention meet you (for the first time) and so many other Amazing DOA members... Everyone was just the sweetest and made my first ever Doll meet an amazingly pleasant Loving experience that I will never forget:)
      ~Anthony

    56. You are such a sweetheart! You made the meet for me since you kept taking pictures of my boy. I was so late and last in line but you made me feel the drive and everything was worth it. :) I hope this year is just as much fun! I don't think I'll have a guest this year though. I've had a mild falling out with my guest from last year and I'm not sure she'll want to attend. :(

    57. I think the turn out this year will be higher then last but I hope not so high that everyone who wants to can't go. The Volks tea parties in LA have had a higher turn out each time and at the last party in October there ended up being a lottery to get in. I know I want to go to the NYC Dolpa and didn't get to go last year since I already had tickets to go to NYC at a time just weeks before the party and couldn't change because of family obligations.

    58. I'm glad to hear that the lottery isn't always necessary, but yeah, I can imagine that the events become more popular every year. During last year's NYC Dolpa my daughter was only two mos. old and I couldn't leave her for an overnight yet. I was ecstatic to hear they were doing another NYC event. I really hope everyone gets to go! :love

    59. Thanks rkold and Nena for the insight! Guess I'm gonna have to get up early that day!

Heehee, Satoshi told me all about ordering her FCS, it sounded like so much fun! Now I'm even more excited!! :dance

Hmm, good point! I hope that's how they do it this time. Maybe they'll let more people do it too.

Do you think they'd offer Maria/Shultz as a makeup head? That's the one I'd want :love Yes! I remember when you won Quinn!! I clapped so hard for you, and Anthony too. I remember how bummed he was cause he didn't bring his Heath. I'm glad he got to make up for it by bringing home another gorgeous boy!

Thanks! I hope I get one too! :)

    60. We had such a great table! Anthony was so much fun, I still can't believe he won that Cecile! Quinn is still so precious to me! It's a riot how thrilled I was to win the chance to pay $600 bucks for her LOL! I'd do it again in a heartbeat!
I think Maria is a School C, no? Isn't that the same as Rock?
