I called Volks and asked my question.

"Isn't it a misprint? Is Reisner truely SD"17"?"

Then they answered, "Yes, he's officially SD17 It's not a misprint."

They couldn't tell me detail now, but SD16 ≠ SD17, I heard.

If they release SD17 on a Dolpa 17, will there be a SD18 and SD19 as well? (When I had been sure that they release according to three-year differences = MSD 7 yrs, SD10, SD13, SD16, next should be SD19.....)

EEEEEBIIIIIIIL Volks!~ Now I have to commit to getting the SD17 *body* than getting the twins (provided he is taller than the SD16 to begin with )

 

The prospect of an SD17 boy is very exciting. I hope they'll release more pictures of Reisner soon, as the bigger boys always fascinate me.

 

Oh, dear. I love my Yukinojo. I'll withhold judgment until I see more pictures of the SD17, but it may be an extremely expensive spring.

Well Reisner seems to be the hot one!!!I guess they'll send some to Volks USA for the Lottery and than have an AE, which means I probably won't get him. Not much luck lately with the Lottery and NO luck with the AE. So I better not get too excited for now.

Does anyone know if it would be worth buying the guidebook if you're not attending? Do they show all of the limiteds and one-offs in it? It says 86 pages monochrome, so it's all black and white inside?

The twins are Yos? Crap. I managed BARELY to not get Puff, though I am lurking on the Marketplace and Y!J on him.... What's this I hear of an LA DOLPA? Is there any concrete info on this? THAT one I could make...

 

Yes, it's all black & white on thin paper. It shows all the limiteds and clothing, but not the one-offs. In general, there are much better pictures online. Mostly, it's a listing of the dealers with ads for their shops.

 

There's supposed to be a Dolpa in LA in either October or November. Volks has said they want to fly in Japanese guests and dealers for this one (that was either in FDQ or Haute Doll)!

The Volks advertisement pages in Haute Doll say in tiny print at the bottom that Japanese and American fans will meet each other for the first time at the LA Dolpa.

A lot of people seem to think the LA Dolpa is just a rumor, but I think Volks is planning to go through with it if they're willing to publish it. I'm planning to go, if there really is one!

 

Oh God.... Don't let it be the week of October 10th.... I am supposed to be in San Antonio for a Glass Convention....

 

The Volks LA Dollpa is definitely not a rumor. Shigeta-san officially announced it at Volks Halloween Party in LA last October. It's definitely a go. The only questions left about it are the big ones:
1) Where will it be?
2) When (exactly) will it be? (Shigeta-san didn't mention an exact time, but he implied September-November as the time range.)
3) How will attendees be decided?
4) What will be happening at it? (We know it will be a "Japanese-style dollpa" and that Shigeta-san said they planned on chartering a plan to bring Japanese guests, but beyond that, nothing official has been said.)

I'm already trying to start saving for that one, and I'm hanging on to vacation time from work because I REALLY want to go!!

 

Ditto that! I will save mine up as well, and be sure to pay off the Dollie Credit Card, then it will be all good...

 

If anyone wants non-online high quality photos of the Dolpa dolls then they'll need to get the latest Volks news file.

Ok, I have to ask. Partly because we really love Reisner and are considering him, but mostly because I've just never understood how it works. How does one get one of the limited dolls from a Dolpa? I used to think you could only get one if you went, but I've seen a lot of people on the boards who didn't go get one. *I really wish I'd known how before, I would have tried to get Williams if I had. ;_;* So if you don't attend a Dolpa, how do you get a hold of one of these dolls?

 

Either thru someone who can attend the Dolpa itself, Dolpa 17 After Event, or Volks USA lottery. It was asked before earlier in this thread i think

I am not positive, but even if there is another Rozen Maiden, we can't get her internationally. Remember the Dollfie Dream from this past Dolpa? It was not available to Volks USA or at the international After Event because it was based on an anime character and they may not have international distribution rights (I think)?? Thus far they have been unable (legally I believe?) to release any anime related characters outside of the asian market?? This includes 1/2 and garage kits too I believe. We had a discussion about it in the last Dolpa thread.
Anyway that is my guess.

I don't know. It probably depends on who owns the rights to the anime. But, the last anime doll (and others before her) were not available to us why all the other limiteds were.

I just want you to know I want more than anything to have access to these dolls.

Well whether or not they're accessible by foreigners is a smaller detail to me than the possibility of these dolls actually coming into existence.... I'd love to see it happen...

 

lol..me too! I loved shinku, but with second hand prices ranging from $3,000 to $8,000 there was no way I could afford her.
I wish I knew for sure why Volks hasn't released a lot of their anime dolls internationally. A few of us have just guessed at the legal reasons. I assume they are similar to why we can't get Takara Blythe's even though hasboro owns the rights to them. Lack of distribution rights. It makes sense it would be the same for Volks. But I just don't know for sure. I have been wondering for a couple years now as I watch various anime dolls not make it to the international market.

A company has to buy the American copyrights in order to be able to distribute the dolls here, and since Rozen Maiden is a franchise, especially one attached to an Anime not yet released or licensed in the US, it doesn't really make good sense to buy the rights just to sell a few dolls here.

I'll be moving to Japan in this summer anyway, though not till after the Dolpa, but honestly I would consider saving that much money up to get Suigintou second hand. She's one of the few non-original characters that has struck me enough to consider that.

 

A little OT here, but is Rozen Maiden really not licensed in this country?

 

As far as I know, the anime hasn't been. The comic has, but I know of no company that has licensed the anime. That might have changed recently, but the last time I checked it wasn't. It makes me sad because I would actually buy the DVDs if they released it.

 

The Anime and Manga are licensed for USA x.X which is why I wonder~

Oh awesome. I knew the comic had been, but the anime must be a fairly recent aquisition as the fansub source I check is very good about marking licensed animes and taking them down and it hasn't been taken down yet. They'll probably update that soon.

Thank you for the info. It would have been strange if the anime hadn't been licensed. I picked up the new issue of the manga today.

I'm wondering who Volks will do next. Even so, as much as I would like one of their Rozen Maiden dolls, I still don't know if I would go through the whole line stress for one at Dolpa.
