DollZone mini Discussion Part 15

Apr 22, 2019

      • x 1
    1. Does anyone have suggestions for where to find clothes that are long enough for the B45-018 male body? I just got one for a Minifee hybrid & promptly realized that my slim guy clothes are way too short on him, and I’m not sure where to look that might have the right size.

    2. She's so lovely. The pink really suits her.

Your dreaming Hal is wonderful @Sigune

Ugh, I really need to get my 3 kiddos out of storage & start working on finding bodies for them. They're all from several years ago when I thought I'd find bodies 'in a few months'...and instead I went on a lengthy hobby hiatus er, whoops? :sweat So it's going to be interesting finding matches, but we'll get it done. And speaking of older sculpts - don't suppose anyone has some Reiko or Aaron pics to share? :sorry

    3. Has anyone here tried to hybrid a dollzone and a dream valley recently?

    4. No, but I do have dolls from both in white from the same year. What were you wondering about?

    5. Not sure if you already saw the news but they're discontinuing a lot of dolls again. :(

I have Mir and Gru on my wishlist with plans to buy them in few years but since they're already getting discontinued I asked Alice's collections if I could buy just their heads for now, I'll worry about the bodies later then. Haven't heard back yet since it's weekend but I hope I can order them like that. *fingers crossed*

    6. That's a shame, there are some really cute sculpts in that list. None that I have any real excuse to get though, so I will let them pass by and hope that, if my interest changes, the secondhand market will provide. For a while after they discontinued the old minis (Megi, Mo, Shoyo, Annie, etc.) there were fairly common sales of them on DoA for... a while. Even now there always seems to be at least one of that era on the MP these days, even if in not great condition at this point. Dunno if the ones going this time have been popular or around long enough for the same effect though? I've been kind of out of the loop. I don't see Rory on the list but I'm still glad I ordered mine when I did, if there are any sculpts getting the axe I worry about things like it being a matter of time.

The cyberpunk themed dolls look cool though, I wonder if they're stepping away from that aesthetic? And Penny is such a cute face. If I was in my era of buying cute dolls with no reason or character ready, I admit I'd be tempted (also, her fullset look is AMAZING :O ).

@digi I really hope you can get the heads! I've ordered single heads from other companies through Alice's Collections and I think they basically just gave a price quote and said "put this many of the $1 dollar page in your cart and the head in the order info". I don't know if you can just do that without emailing first, so it's probably best to ask, especially to make sure of an accurate price. Unless DZ has become strict about selling full dolls only or something, you should probably be able to get them separate if you are quick enough! The 15h being 6 days away though, I hope communication doesn't take up too much of that time since it really does seem down to the wire a little. Fingers crossed for you though.

EDIT: According to ACBJD, it seems more than just the ones in the DZ news page are going, though it claims the date is the 28th as opposed to the 15th. And Scarecrow Hal is going! One of their cutest sculpts imo. I already have mine, but it's a shame they're finally giving up on them. Maybe the mold is too worn out or something, but still. End of an era.

EDIT2: ARGH I SAID NO MORE DOLLS BUT BUT Penny is absolutely PRECIOUS :horror::...(:doh
I can't believe I'm even considering another layaway, the last one I did I ran out of hype before the doll was made and it hasn't been out of the box for more than 2 hours in the last year-- maybe if I rehome that one I have an excuse lol

    7. I got reply from ACBJD that the heads can be ordered separately for (if I remember right) $72, +$60 for face up if I want it added so that's what I'm doing I just keep going back and forth trying to decide if I should add something else to the order too or just get them now. I've only seen 3 Grus and two Mirs in owner pictures so I don't think they were very popular and this is likely my last chance to get them, doubt I'll find either in the second hand market.

I wonder if they're planning to go different direction with their dolls and want to discontinue all the old ones due that? Or if it's mold issue like you said.

      • x 2
    8. Chipping in. David is their newest msd size I believe. And it's already on the chopping block :( so maybe popularity issue too?

      • x 1
    9. David is a doll I've been kind of considering getting, I like his strange face. But he was pretty low on my wish list and now I just don't know... This discontinuation makes me worried that I would regret not getting him ugh

      • x 2
    10. Yes, I saw the news, Digi. It’s such a shame! So many dolls on the chopping block! :...(

I broke down and ordered a Scarecrow Hal. I just knew I’d regret it if I didn’t get him. He’s one of the older sculpts now, but he is such a cutie-pie. I always thought his freckles were too adorable. :chibi

(And, now for the long, long wait. If I’m lucky, he’ll show up for Christmas :doh)

    11. I decided to take advantage of the discount event to order The Hanged Man. She's not one of those being discontinued but I've wanted one since she was released. She's going to be my dark mori/ Halloween themed angry ghost.

      • x 1
    12. Welp, I'm not supposed to be spending money on dolls but a quite a few getting discontinued were on my wishlist so... now or never aha.

Also fingers crossed they've sorted out their tan skin this time, feels like I'm taking a risk and I'm legit going to cry if my Zero shows up and she's orange :')

    13. So I ah.... went and put Penny on layaway on the very last day lol :sweat

I figured I didn't want to miss her since I love (and have ordered) her fullset look, if I had waited to get her secondhand idk if anyone would be selling the fullset. So I guess no other large purchases for a while... I'm lucky I had some savings from another planned buy that ended up falling through (the thing it was for wasn't for sale after all. non doll related. freed up some savings though!).

Funnily enough I was very indecisive (as in, one day I was "go for it" the next was "focus on your current dolls" like friggin clockwork) until I realized that there were literally 10 minutes in the last (or second-to-last) day she was available at ACBJD according to Google's time zone converter for China, so I had to rush to send a last-minute email to Alice and leave it to fate if it would go through in time. And then they gave me another 2 days leeway for the down payment, but I paid it right away to take no more chances lol. I figure, worst case, in 7-10 months I have a lovely fullset doll to sell if I decide by then I don't want her. Again, I'm lucky I had savings on hand.

Of course, I'm still totally going to spoil my newest arrival (Jinx, DZ Rory girl- 2 months earlier than the 7 month estimate, I saw the box and FREAKED OUT) as it's going to be a long while before Penny shows up and I want to make sure I give all my dolls some love rather than just, well, acquiring more lol. I plan to make a yarn wig for Jinx and I already have ideas for some outfits for her too(I will be making her canon Arcane outfit but that's harder and right now she just needs something so I can have her out in my house lol). The one downside to her arriving early is that I had no stuff for her, oops!

I posted Jinx's box opening pics on my tumblr, but I can try to put a post together here too. These days it's a little less natural for me to make large forum posts with images and text, especially as I rely on my phone a lot more for web browsing these days and many times I have drafted a long post somewhere only to accidentally close the page and have to start over lol. But if it's okay to just cross post from my tumblr, I may type up some more details for an opening post on here- but I ramble!

    14. I was really indecisive about Daisy (still am tbh), so I missed her. I'm kinda in my fantasy doll phase right now and the purple model really caught my eye. Maybe I'll get lucky and she shows up instock somehwere.

    15. ^ Daisy was absolutely gorgeous in the pictures, I hope they'll rerelease her again later in some shape.

Now that this thread popped up again I might as well mention that I got notification earlier this week that my Mir and Gru heads have been sent out, I'm both surprised and excited to get them this soon, I suppose they'll arrive either the next week or the one after it. Then I'm stuck with the eternal dilemma of "what bodies should I get for them?" Since I'm a weirdo who likes mixing and matching stuff and having all kinds of different bodies around (now that sounds a bit morbid )

      • x 3
    16. Ahhh the things one can say in this hobby that sound totally normal to us, and morbid to those not in the know ;)

      • x 2
    17. Digi, congrats on your Mir and Gru heads being shipped! Wow! That was really quick for Dollzone. :D

Please be sure to let us know what bodies you decide to use. Looking forward to pictures! :thumbup

      :XD::XD::XD:

    18. OMG guys! Dollzone is re-releasing their flower dolls, Moment and Anson for a limited time until October 15th as part of their Autumn event.

    20. WOW! That’s awesome! :aeyepop:

I always thought those dolls were so delicate and beautiful. :love

    21. Darn, if only I didn't seriously not want to ever purchase resin anymore. If these were 30cm-ish, I would probably consider. Moment was one of the dolls I regretted never getting, but not at the point where I am at (swore off resin for good, unless they re-release Mo-wen as a head only, then I might get him). Happy for anyone who's able and willing to get any of the two. They are truly works of art, I wish I didn't dislike resin half as much as I do, otherwise I would see myself getting Moment -- even if I had to sell a kidney to affor him right this moment as I don't do layaway. Lol!

      • x 2
    22. Oh wooooow! They're back! :o I always adored Anson and Moment so this is exciting to see! I hope those who are able to snag one this time around love them. :D

    23. 33 days ago the package was sent out and I'm still waiting for these heads. :...( according to the tracking the package sat at airport for couple of days then was shipped out, disappeared from the tracking for few weeks and... was returned to the sender. It was promptly resent to me again and now it's been missing since the 17th day again. I'm starting to wonder if it's ever going to get here. :pout:

      • x 1
    24. Oh that's awful! :( Hopefully it shows up soon!!

      • x 1
    25. That's terrible! I'm so sorry that you are having so much trouble getting your doll heads. :horror:

Any more word on them yet?

    26. Yesterday the package finally arrived in my country and I was able to pay the taxes for them and they've been released for delivery but haven't moved since then. I hope they'll arrive early next week as post doesn't deliver stuff during weekends here. I'll post pictures once they're here :)

      • x 3
    27. Digi, that is certainly good news! YAY! :dance I’m so glad they finally arrived in your country. You should be getting them soon.

Looking forward to seeing pictures. :thumbup

    28. So, are we discussing the 40cm 1/5 size dolls here too? I love that new body. Thinking of transferring my 1/6 Black Cat head to that one, as their neck sizes appear to be similar, but does anyone else have reference for such a thing?

      • x 1
    29. I would assume the 40cm dolls are ok to discuss in here. they're still technically MSD I think?

      • x 1
    30. I thought so, too. :thumbup

    31. Well Dollzone actually has come out with a new mini size doll. It's an MSD Uncle size.

    35. I keep looking at Asak, the body proportions with that head are my cup of tea. There are no clear straight on shots, to be able to tell if the neck is as wide as the jaw, which is my personal preference. If they offer a three part torso, with longer hips, or a 30cm-ish version, I'll be in deep trouble. I might already be, despite me no longer looking to get more resin cast dolls. DX

    36. :chibi:chibi:chibi more 1/4 uncles???? I love this trend!
The new boys from DollZone are so loveable! And look at those long nails!! :D

    37. It's been ages since I've been active in this hobby and I'm absolutely thrilled to see that Dollzone are still thriving. My first ever BJD was from Dollzone and now my collection is full of their old sculpts!

I'm afraid they need a lot of work, but here are my Dollzone MSDs -

Ces, a 2007 Dollzone Hid (I've had to dye him as he's now neon yellow!) and Seraphine, a 2012 Mo on the old girl body:

I also have a blank Mo head on a Souldoll boy body but I don't know what to do with him yet.

    38. @Rockin' Resin Addict It’s so delightful to see a couple of examples of Dollzone’s older sculpts. I truly miss them! Thank you so much for sharing.:)

    39. Ahhh it's always so lovely to see older sculpts kicking around in people's collections! They're fantastic. :)

    40. I'm hoping to get my Hanged Man girl next month, and I'm trying to find a wig for her. She has a smaller head than most MSDs, a 5/6. So far the most promising wigs I found are the LeekeWorld Margie or Jill in Blackberry or black from DDE. Anyone know what they look like in person at this size or have any suggestions of anything similar?

      • x 2
    41. If you can find old Monique Trading wigs (there's a store that sells them, but I can't remember - U.S.-based), Monique Trading had a lot of size 5-6 wigs that were nice and thin (more natural-looking). Alice's Collections (ACBJD) has started selling 1/8-scale wigs, which are size 5-6.

    42. Was the U.S. shop you were thinking of Facets Boutique?

      • x 2
    43. Actually, it was Factory Direct Crafts. But I love Facets Boutique too!

      • x 1
    44. My problem is that Facets Boutique has styles that I like, but they are unavailable in the right color. What I'm looking for is a long straight wig in black, bangs optional. Geneva or Paris would be perfect if they were available in the right color.

      • x 1
    45. Just popping in with some Shoyo spam - it's really interesting how Dollzone's sculpting style has changed. I was away from the hobby for a long time and am curious of anyone knows when and why a switch happened (or was it just a gradual thing?)

      • x 6
    46. @cobaltconduct I think the change was gradual, but happened for two reasons. One, Dollzone appears to be run more like a traditional company where the people who run the company are not the same as the people who sculpt the dolls. As such when a sculptor leaves their style kind of goes with them, because even if you're given a reference and instructions each sculptor is still going to interpret things a little differently.

A recent example of this would be with Impldoll. Their previous sculptor left during the pandemic to be with family, and with their new sculptor they've shifted their style drastically. But, this also leans into what I think is the second reason. The changing aesthetic wants of buyers. DZ's biggest market is China, it's also there home market, so they're going to be way more in tuned to what the Chinese market wants then any other market.

As an example DZ recently debuted a dragon head on their Weibo as part of Chinese New Years and year of the dragon, and 99% of the replies were about his head being to small for the body it was on. Honestly, the replies which I read using Google translate were hilarious, and not wrong. Within a week they put up new pictures of the head after they enlarged it. So, yeah they're very in tuned to their home market. And the style of dolls many people like today is very different from 15 years ago.

      • x 6
    47. So - like this? You could probably steam the bottom of the hair to straighten out the curl.
Denver Doll also has Remy size 5/6 in "soft black" (looks kinda brown tho), and Leekeworld Jill size 5/6 in Real Black (that's proper black). I have a couple Leekeworld wigs, and I like them.

      • x 1
    48. I was looking at Remy and Jill as possibilities, but they both look like they might be too short for the look I want, and Jill looks like it might not be straight. Facets Boutique has Aliya available in black, and that might be easier to straighten than the one from Alice's collections.

Edit: I ordered Aliya, hope it works for my incoming angry ghost lady!

    49. Thank you so much for the explanation @Cloudedmind ! Very interesting, and also hilarious how it went with the dragon head. It all makes perfect sense, of course. In a way, their newer sculpts still have something that ties them to the older ones (the M-shaped lips and the dainty girls' hands, for instance) so I've been wondering how much of it is the individual sculptor's touch and how much of it is just company aesthetic - I guess I have my answer now!

      • x 3
    50. I also think there was a change in Dollzone's early style when Doll Chateau became their sister company in 2011. You could see the influence of the Doll Chateau sculptural style on Dollzone's original aesthetic pretty clearly.

      • x 3
    51. Just saw that Mist Strayer and Venus Halo are available again for a limited time. I never got one before they were discontinued, but I really like them.

      • x 1
    52. Regarding the change in DollZone's style, I definitely agree that Doll-Chateau seems to have had a big influence. I still adore most of their older minis, and I'm a fan of their more recent ones too- (I hope this is ok to say since I'm not actively shopping) I do like to keep an eye out on the MP just to see when their older sculpts go up for sale, even though I am mostly happy with my doll collection and most of my plans are pretty set in stone. I always end up thinking that if I have the excess funds at the right time I might adopt more, but so far I've been able to keep myself sticking to wish list stuff- which skews mostly 1/3 scale these days.

I did, however, cave and buy a DZ Jake head to use as a practice head for mods before realizing he might actually be a good fit for the character I'd been considering shelling as a 1/3 doll. So I may have more to post about in the future- that and I also have two of their newer-ish dolls, Rory and Penny, who I think I talked about in the waiting room but not in here yet? Rory is going to be modded slightly (I need to fix her nose, it's too pointy for the character, otherwise the sculpt is close to perfect for my vision) and will be shelling a version of Jinx from Arcane, and Penny is now Adalia, I got her as a fullset when she was being discontinued, and even though she's been mostly staying displayed looking pretty at the moment, I am still glad I have her. Someone on another site mentioned she has "Barbarella vibes" and I had to look that up- yeah, she totally does XD but I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing... I defs need to get some outdoor pics with her soon.

NGL, my BJD hobby stuff has been on hold a bit, but with wanting to learn to do faceups (finally, after 12 years in the hobby or so--) and mod stuff, both Jinx and that DZ Jake head might be seeing a bit of progress soon. I miss being active on DoA and other hobby spaces so we'll see how that goes!

I did notice that ACBJD at least doesn't seem to be displaying a huge selection of 1/4 DollZone dolls... they had that big discontinuation last year (when I got Penny/Adalia) and don't seem to have a lot of options anymore? Unless they're mostly limited... I haven't really been looking at the limited section.... hmm.

      • x 2
    53. I find a lot of DZ's newer mini offerings look very spooky and mature compared to a few years back. I like mostly all of them, but the only dolls I personally own are Mannikin who was discontinued years ago, and Anson from the re-release.

It's nice that DZ has rereleased so many dolls, but I'm kinda bummed how closely together some of them were. I could do Anson, but not Snow Fulai :(

Speaking of Anson...I felt all those petals really required an airbrush, so I borrowed one. But I put off using it because I've never done it before. Now I started and it wasn't as bad as I'd feared. Results aren't perfect, but all things considered I think it went relatively well.
I want some kind of pattern on it, maybe spots, I'm not sure. Hopefully I'll be able to make the leftside petals look similar. And the head petals...they're probably going to be the most difficult.
I will do her faceup the way I'm used to though, with canned sealant and pastels

    54. Oh wow, I adore those colours! She's going to look gorgeous once she's all finished.

    55. Hello, newbie here!

I only have one doll that I got second hand that is a tiny bean (19 cm) and have been looking for a bigger one as my next one.
I love love love Doll Zone Antheia and thought about getting her with the b45-012 body cause I read it has the best poseability? Can anyone tell me if minifee clothes would fit because I found a seller on Ebay that has some amazing clothes that I would want but they're all minifee size and the minifee body is a tad smaller I guess?

And also does anyone have Antheia? I can't seem to find any info or pictures outside the promo ones anywhere and was wondering why that is..

      • x 1
    56. I'm not sure if I'll get a chance before my vacation but I have a doll on the B45-012 body and might be able to at least compare her to my older DollZone mini who absolutely does not fit in Minifee clothes, unfortunately. So it doesn't seem likely the newer ones can either, but I will try to check sometime before I leave.

    57. A few days ago Dollzone released a new 1/4 uncle-style male body.

As soon as I saw it, I decided that it was what I was looking for and yesterday I placed the order. I am sharing the information with you because I think it is fantastic and I think there are several people who were looking for a body like this.

It measures 45 cm without the head, about 51 cm with the 1/4 head, and has a mature look, like the uncle-sized bodies. In fact, it is the reduced version of the 73 cm Dollzone male body. Another thing I like is that it has an "anime" style, with very long legs and a narrow body at the waist and hips, but with broad shoulders and without being too muscular.

It is just what I needed for my floating head and I am very happy to have found it.:3nodding:

Also, it is now on sale at a discount at both Legenddoll and Alice's Collections.

I hope this information is useful to someone.

    58. Saw a new Dollzone boy, Xiao Chu, via BJDivas. I'm loving the body for its mature look but don't like the head. Am wondering what size of head would fit him? Measurements say the neck is 7cm. I guess another concern would be matching skin tone.
