DollZone mini Discussion Part 15

Apr 22, 2019

    1. DollZone MSDs are generally slim msds, not “normal”. That body included. That said, it isn’t Doll Chateau thin either.

However, if you want a more standard kind of msd, I recommend Loongsoul! Really good posing, good shape whilst still retaining the less mature (chunkiness) of normal msds.

    2. Thank you, I will check that out! That's unfortunate but I do love that Dollzone body look so maybe I'll still get it someday anyways for a different head/project...

    3. @NamiyaKou Glad I could help! I think there might be an issue in that the aesthetic you seem to be after... IS a slim MSD. It would unfortunately be difficult to find that more shapely mature look whilst still having the chunkiness of a standard msd. Is there a reason why you're set against a slim MSD? These days there are lots of makers who make clothes for slim msds. I will also add that you can usually put a slim MSD into normal MSD clothes. They will be baggy, but the doll can wear them (and you can use corsets or waistcoats to pinch the clothes in in a non-destructive way), so you could still go with the DZ body and be able to dress it!

    4. @nattherat
Ohh I just realized that maybe I've got a whole wrong impression of MSD sizes? I always thought a slim MSD was an even thinner and smaller looking doll than the "regular MSD"! Like I often see Minifee owners saying their doll is so small and thin, everything looks huge on them so I've never got one. I don't see too often that shops offer a "slim" variation and I'd hate to buy some 40$ skinny jeans that don't look like skinny jeans on my doll ><
I do like the look of the LoongSoul one you recommended though. I guess I am just looking for a not too thin, child-like body, but not quite as toddler-like as the Rosenlied Holiday Child for example.

Anyways, sorry for the off topic! I fell in love with how the Dollzone body looks so maybe I'll treat myself anyways, especially since I'd like to make clothing myself too.

    5. @NamiyaKou I believe Minifees are shorter than msds usually are, similar to Unoa. So the difference is more in the height.
But yeah, clothing might be an issue! My Dollzone msds fit into minifee sized clothing, since they are slim msds, but of course they can find that trousers and sleeves are too short.

Etsy is your best bet for buying slim msd clothes, but many makers from China on Taobao or through dealers will also customise clothing to your provided measurements!

    6. Hi all :) Has anyone put together a MNF / DZ hybrid recently? I'm tempted by a boy DZ body for a MNF head and was wondering what the NS resin match would be like!

    7. I just saw the new Dollzone Scarecrow Hal-3 while browsing for clothes online. He is so cute, I can't stand it! I seriously need someone to hold me back lol, my wallet can't handle it ;;. but It looks like he'll be available for sale outside of the fullset..I'm so tempted. I already have the yosd version of the sculpt, so I don't really need the msd version. QmQ I'll have to see...

    8. Saaaaaaaame! I LOVE the bunny ear headset! :D Don't have a lot of time to decide though, that version is only available until whenever that event ends. T_T

    9. @sno4wy - oh man, the bunny headset is super adorable. QmQ I most likely won't be getting it so i'll just have to look forward to seeing photos of it lol.

      • x 1
    10. I have both and can compare for you! Though I don't have the ability to actually put my MNF head on the DZ body properly as I don't have a spare neck connector.
DZ's resin is slightly paler then FLs, which has a slightly more yellow cast. It's nothing that you couldn't hide with a faceup though. DZ has a thinner neck, but you could probably pad that out.
I can balance my MNFs head on my DZ body if you like and grab a snap?

    11. My dragon Chuan just arrived today and I just wanted to share this gorgeous piece of art:

[IMG]Box Opening - Dollzone dragon Chuan by Wildcard_Snowy, on Flickr

I put some detail pics into my flickr, like a close up of the face and the level of detail on the scale and tail...
I have some mermaid bjds from other companies, that are also well-made, but this one really steals the crown with ease -^3^-

It's also interesting to see the 'new' DZ white for myself. I know it's not that new anymore, but I think Chuan is the first DZ and white on top ever since they changed it. I admit I prefer the paper white, even if it tends to turn a mellow creamy white sooner or later.
But it won't matter much with this one, so all good :3

      • x 6
    12. So pretty @Snowy That tail is magnificent!

    13. @Snowy How gorgeous! The detailing is amazing on your dragon mermaid!

I had my own exciting arrival after almost a year and four months of waiting! I already painted his wing, but I'm still figuring out his aesthetic and name!

      • x 5
    14. @Snowy - congrats!! Your doll is absolutely breathtaking. I love the tail and wings :love

    15. @SteamWitch
Yes, Dollzone really did an amazing job. If they ever make a Naga I'm in major trouble if it's MSD sized XD

      @Magnus Vale
I actually was surprised at the level! I didn't notice that on the promo pics and I'm usually so picky when it comes to dragons and stuff like that ^^° This one was love at first glimpse thought -^^-

Who's the handsome youth? I recognize that wing, but not the head sculpt?
I love wings like that. Pitty they never made a doll with two of those so far :3
Or well. Good for my savings ;P

@Fiishu Thank you very much! I'm also happy to finally have her here. I got this for myself at the end of last year / start of this one and it's one of two major highlights that 2020 had in store for me :3

    16. @Snowy I'm sad I lacked funds when they released her, she's really gorgeous! Congratulations!
My boy is a Leon! I bought him during the big retirement early last year, then a ton of shennanigans ensued! Now he's finally home. I do love the one wing, although I agree that a pair would be gorgeous! I need to get to blushing the pretty clockwork on his back to match the wing coloring!

I'm trying out a variety of styles and wigs on him at the moment, haha.

      • x 1
    17. @Magnus Vale He is white skin isn't he? Seeing gorgeous dolls like that makes me look forward to my own doll all the more, especially since I was unsure about my color choice at first. Now I feel I've picked the right one.

      • x 1
    18. @Magnus Vale Your Leon looks great in the style you have him in right now, and you did an excellent job on painting the wing. I almost got the winged body for my Ivan, but I wasn’t confident enough to try painting it. I love seeing other people’s though, and I look forward to seeing the completed clockwork blushing!

    19. @xxkittymexx Thank you so much! I'm enjoying his current aesthetic as well, I was trying to lean towards something that would fit a steampunk aesthetic vaguely at least. If the cooler weather holds for tomorrow, I'm going to try and blush his body, hands and clockwork!

    20. Hi, I was wondering if anyone could tell me the difference between the B45-017 vs the B45-012 body and which you would recommend. I am leaning more towards the 017 because of the larger bust options so she can still share my MNF's clothes. I love that they can bring their knees to their chest.

    21. I love both~ 017 is taller and slimmer, the 012 is shorter (but still taller than minifee I believe) and has wide hips with an overall more pear shaped body. Both are great posers. I only have a moe with the glamour bust, but neither dollzone bodies are as busty as that aha. Did you want me to take a pic of them with my moe?

      • x 2
    22. Returning with the pic I planned from the start when I got my Dollzone Chuan.
It also serves as a nice reminder that even compared to SD13 she really is small and slim.

    23. @Snowy She fits in well with the other two, though, probably because she's a fantasy creature.

      • x 1
    24. @EagleVision1999 Thanks ^^ And yes, exactly. I keep my SDs separate for the most part from the rest of the collection, but there are a few characters/dolls that just fit in well. The DZ Chuan is definitly one of them :D (also, she's mainly meant to be with those two, so I'm glad she doesn't look out of place -^,^-)

    25. @Snowy What a wonderful trio! I love the combination. I can really see a story in that photo.:)

      • x 1
    26. My first and last DZ girl on B45-012 body, sculpt Gill.
I didn’t see other DZ dolls in real but seems this head a little bit big in comparison with body. And bust is too big on my taste.
But anyway I love Her very much!

    27. Does anyone know what eye size Tarot Moon wears? :D While I’m hunting for one I figured I should grab a wig and eyes for her and can’t find the measurements on her various sales pages.

    28. I just did something I should not have (bought a second doll in a month)....
The new Cyborg doll full set sort of grabbed me and now I am wondering how long the average wait time is for Dollzone? Not that it matters since I am doing layaway.

I might have leaped before I looked but I don't think I am going to regret it.

    29. The cyborg is really cool, though I'm more tempted by the human version. Lucky for me the purple resin event seems to only be Doll Chateau, otherwise I'd be getting her in purple for sure~

As for wait times, it's always been a minimum of 6 months in my experience.

    30. @Anneke I don’t have a Moon...I have the Star whose eyes are closed. But I was able to find the original Dollzone ad for Moon, and that states that her fullset originally came with 12mm eyes. Looking at my Star that seems to be correct for the eye shape. I hope this helps.:)

    31. I have to admit that Dollzone has managed to hit up both my love of mechanical characters and cool helmets with Zero. But i'm really put off by DZ's waiting times. Looking at the waiting room it looks to be averaging at about 8 months at the moment though it seems some people have been waiting over a year for stuff like a single head :nowords:

    32. Oh wow, I was planning on ordering a Zero as well but 8 months is quite a wait!

I think I will have to get her though as she's such a cool concept, just need to decide if I like the grey resin or want a more 'human' colour.
For anyone who has the grey resin - does it have an undertone at all? And how does it age over time?

    33. So... I just discovered Dollzones Zero ans I was hyped. I need to have that unique doll!

Yet I have so many questions and things I don't understand, since I'm still failry new to actually purchasing BJDs myself.

First off, I found the doll via this site ( [Limited Time 15% OFF] Cyborg Robot Ji--Zero -Mechanical Ver. Fullset | Dolk Station - Online bjd shop ) and I was wondering how legit it even is since it's not the official Dollzone page. Is it safe to purchase there and are there any downsides?

Then I browsed Dollzones official site and couldn't seem to find any way to purchase directly from them, just a list with different vendors working with them (?), between them also Dolk but listed unter Japanese vendors. Is there no way to directly purchase from them?

Also I live in Germany and they do not feature any vendors specifically for Germany. What other one should I then refer to?

Last point is the fact that the Dolk site listed several different body types (boy bodies as well) which the official Dollzone site didn't mention. There was the option of purchasing the human head for additional cost as well but no mention of what the option coming with the doll actually is. Dollzone has a special body for this doll as it seems which makes it a cyborg in the first place but surely that won't be offered for the Dolk version, as I can't imagine them casting the different body types in "cyborg".

Right now I am just very confused as how to purchase and what to purchase to get what I actually want. Help is highly appreciated!

    34. Hiya! welcome to the wonderful confusing world of BJDs  But seriously, i've also fallen for the cyborg version of Zero. I hope I can answer some of your questions.

Dollzone mostly sells to the international market using dealers. Shopping around and comparing prices, the dealer Alice's Collections came up as the cheapest for me so i've ordered through them. I've used AC for many years and they have always been good. The only thing to be aware of is AC charges a small paypal fee so the price will go up a little on the checkout.

I've had very mixed experiences with Dolkus and now will only buy through their Korean branch as the Chinese branch tends to be the one which has the problems. (You can tell which branch the doll will come though by looking at the listing, it will say 'item ships from [country]. So if it says 'China' or 'Korea' then that will be which branch you'll be dealing with). As Dollzone is a Chinese company then you'll be going through the Chinese branch of Dolkus which I personally can't recommend due to their hit and miss record.

As for other good dealers, there's Clover-singing who offers free shipping and there's Legend Doll. I ordered through Alice's Collection as she does free shipping to the UK. As you're in Germany then Clover-singing might work out cheaper due to her doing free shipping to more countries.

For options on the doll, how dealers have them on their sites varies. With a lot of them, if you want add on items like if you order Cyborg Zero and want to additionally order Zero's human head you can request that at check out. On the order page there is usually a box where you can add instructions. You can use that to request stuff and then put the order through. But instead of completing the order by immediately paying, you wait (and can also drop the dealer an email with the order number and confirming the changes or extras if you want). They will then manually change the order to the new price if needed and once that done you can complete the order by paying. (I hope I've explained that in a way that's not too confusing).

The default body that comes with the Cyborg version is Dollzones B45-017 girl body. If you order the Cyborg Zero then it comes with the sword hand and pair of cyborg feet. The other body option is if someone wants a different body than the default (but as far as i've read, the hand & cyborg feet only fit the B45-017 body so I don't know if you'll get those parts with a different body).

Anyways, hope that helps, let me know if you want clarification on anything :)

    35. @SabaQu I'm in Germany, too and I would recommend Alice's Collections as a dealer, because their packages are unlikely to cause too much customs trouble (you'll still have to pay, but they mark down their packages in a way that doesn't cause you extra work). Ordering though a dealer makes dealing with the company easier (they'll solve problems for you and check up on your order).

I think the only special thing about the cyborg body itself are the feet. The human head should fit on the body just fine. I think they grey color is special, too. Are you planning to get the fullset?

    36. @Epicari
Thank you so very much for your in-dept answer!
Yeah, the BJD hobby is the most confusing one I have stepped in so far! XD My first doll is from Luts and luckily I did'nt have to deal with more complicated things like differend dealers there. But... want cute cyborg doll! q-q

Anyways, I will take a deeper look into Clover-singing as well as Legend Doll. CS asks for e-mailing if any other body is wanted so I might do that. I just love their boy body to much but the girl body is cute enough for me to be just as happy with it as well.

Another question for me is... will they sell out? There is a set date for ordering. Does that mean they will be 100% available until the end-date or is it possible that they just sell out in like...mid-october or something?

      @EagleVision1999
Oh thank you as well! I will look into Alice's Collection than too.
Yes, I think this time around I would order the full set, face-up and everything. With my first doll I wanted to do the fae up and blushing myself but with this one I would feel most comfortable if the original artistic intent is shown to its fullest :P
Also I really want those cool extras because if I don't get them now, I will most likely never get them.

    37. @SabaQu I don't think they can sell out before the time limit. If they were only able to produce a certain number they would've said so, I reckon. Also, you can get the boy body via other dealers as well, Alice's Collections lists this in the product description, so you could probably get it. AC also offers long layaways.
I've got a Dollzone fullset on layaway at the moment, too. One of my favorite sculpts was discontinued this summer, so I took the plunge. She has the same body as the cyborg, the 44 cm girl body. I got the bigger boobs, though, which apparently you can't do with Zero. My first doll was blank, too, but I really liked the look of Mannikins fullset so with her that's what I got. I think DZ's fullsets have a mixed reputation though, so I second-guessed that choice a lot.

    38. Akumu finally has a face up
      [IMG]

      • x 11
    39. @EagleVision1999 I think I will actually stick with the default female body. The longer I look at it the more I grow to love it! Now it's just a matter of color choice. I guess I will go with white but... I shall think about it a bit longer! XD

@gaiboiozz She is absolutely stunning if I may say so! The more I see from Dollzone the clearer it becomes to me just how much of an art piece every doll is!

      • x 1
    40. @gaiboiozz she turned out so beautiful! Really like the shimmer on her eyelids. Gives her that soft, fresh look :D

      • x 1
    41. @Snowy I love the family portrait! It's super cool to see the full-set of the Dragon Baby, since I won't be able to do the face-up on mine for a while

      • x 1
    42. @bigcanetoad Aw, thank you ^^ Are you delayed from finishing your dragon due to weather / temperatures or real live things keeping you occupied? What plans do you have for yours?

    43. @gaiboiozz Your Akumu is absolutely stunning! I love how your collection has grown with such unusual and unique characters. Your backstories for them must be fascinating...I truly admire the unique world you’re creating with them.:D

      • x 1
    44. @Snowy real life changes right now, mostly. Besides I'm waiting for another doll to come, which is projected to arrive around February, and I want to dye them at the same time.

Edit: I plan on dyeing it gold myself and painting it like a yellow/orange goldfish...now I just gotta think about getting a hotplate so I can dye it outside during the spring (better safe than sorry)

here's a picture of mine the day I got it! Gonna be blank for a while, but that's okay :cockroach2[IMG]

      • x 7
    45. @bigcanetoad
Oh my!!! I really love the goldfish idea! I was thinking of wanting to see something like it after seeing the goldfish/koi(?)-mermaid bjd Angell-Studio released a while ago

What color do you intend to use for the base gold dyeing? And do you have something to make the scales shimmer? Will she get a wig?

She’s gorgeous even blank so you can already enjoy her ❤️

    46. I’m thinking about taking the plunge and ordering the Ji Zero human girl full set! Would
it be worth paying more for gray skin or should I just get white? I have never owned a Doll Zone sculpt before so I don’t know much about what to expect!

      • x 1
    47. The gray skin is nice. Imo if you like the gray skin, you should go for it. DollZone's white is a milky white rather than a paper white, I dunno if that helps any in deciding. o:

      • x 1
    48. @cherryblossoms
I am considering the gray skin as well. At first I thought white would do but later I figured that maybe it wouldn't look 'artificial' enough? Also the tattoos wouldn't stand out as much. Peach looks interesting too but I don't know how it might look later in person and with natural lighting.

I think gray is probably worth it since no color looks as unnatural and cyber, also it works well with the tattoos as well as the light pink blushing that doesn't stand out as much on more natural shades.

If anyone has a irl picture of either gray or peach, I would appreciate it too!

    49. I can post a pic after, but I can say that the grey is a nice shade, the new white is an off creamy white that confused me, especially compared to the peach. Peach is more white than DZ white.

During their last old white limited time offer I ordered a few pieces, so I can add that, too.

      • x 1
    50. Their peach is really inconsistent, based on what I've been seeing in a BJD group on Facebook. It differs so much from batch to batch that it looks like different resin colors. :(

      • x 1
    51. Sorry, but I forgot the grey and pink skins. Blurp. The pic isn't great anyways, so I'll see if I can go outside tomorrow if it isn't raining. :doh

Take into account yellowing for the older dolls.

Digging through the boxes made me realize I don't know where my old white parts from the last event are, plus pink and the oldest tan skin I have. (~2009)

      • x 4
    52. @Snowy I plan on using a warm yellow from iDye Poly! Will probably blush with orange and yellow pastels as well. I'm debating how I want to use the gloss and whether or not I have strong enough gold acrylic paint I can dilute and create a shimmer with. I'm going to see if one of my friends is interested in creating an off-white short wig with a hairline similar to the full-set wig.

I know!! It's such a pretty mold; chilling on my desk right now <3

@cherryblossoms if you feel comfortable dyeing resin and have the protection, you could save money dyeing the white grey? Grey would look really cool for the cyber doll

      • x 1
    53. I might just spend the $60 on the grey. I don’t feel quite comfortable dying such an expensive doll myself! I do agree, the grey looks so cool for a cyber doll.

      • x 1
    54. @bigcanetoad
Oooh! Crossing my fingers for you! I'm really looking forward to seeing how your project turns out -^3^-
Just a heads-up about the fullset wig: It's not foremd to fit around the horns. It's normal roundish-shaped and in my case I need to carefully set it up, to avoid it pushing my horns off the magnets as the rubber band is strong :3

@cherryblossoms (if you go grey, you could totally get one of water based colors for tabletop models in any of the metallic greys and go for additional shine/ shimmer effect ;) ) Best of luck with whatever you decide on ^^

      • x 2
    55. Pulled the trigger and ordered her in grey skin! Now the waiting game begins!

      • x 3
    56. Was the grey skin limited or am I misremembering?

    57. Grey is regularly available

    58. It is just, for some reason, hella more expensive. But it's the promoted color here so the doll probably looks best in it TT^TT

I'm afraid I must wait a bit longer until I can order her too...
