Dollzone Controversy (taken from News thread)

Mar 24, 2006

    1. give it a rest, will you? can't you accept that people like their dolls?

    2. I take it back about DoD then, last time I looked they were slightly cheaper than that. I don't pay a lot of attention to DoD prices as they are not a doll I am generally interested in.

But my point was that they cost no where near 1/10th of the price of the other dolls and if the material itself is really that much cheaper then it seems they should.

It is concievable that tinybear is right and the original material was polystone and they have switched to something else.

It's good that people are satisfied with what they are getting, but since I had some other information that had not been presented yet I thought I would add it so those people buying from DZ can be informed.

For me personally the fact that DZ ever copied another company is enough to make me never buy from them even if they are not copying now. Others my have differing opinions, but in my view that is no way to start a business and any business who does so does not deserve my patronage. Others may choose to do what they like, but I do think it is important that all the information be presented before people make their decisions.

Unless I get more information regarding CP's veiw on the company and what they are doing I will refrain from posting in this thread any longer.

    3. The way you presented the information was very polite and un-inflammatory. I think it's good information to have for people who are considering buying and I'm glad people are happy with the products they have recieved. It's a personal choice whether or not you're ok with buying from this particular company given their history and information is a an invaluable tool for deciding.

    4. I think its safe to say that people fall into mostly 3 places. Those that know nothing about dollzone, those that know the past / present and dont care and those that know the past / present and don't want to buy a doll from them because of that.
I can't say I know *anything* about Dollzone personally because I'm a newbie and god knows I can't even think about getting another doll yet. But I think the reason bugland and a few others are upset is because they have heard the information, several of them have already purchased dolls and they are getting a pretty steady barage of negatives about Dollzone. True or not they probably don't want to hear about the negatives but want to bask in the "OMG first doll is coming!" feeling. So what about this, If you want to talk about the positive aspects of doll zone and your new purchase start a thread to do so, and if you want to inform newbies about the wrong things Dollzone has done in the past / is doing now / information about them in general then why don't you start a thread dedicated to doing that.
That was everyone is hopefully happy and we are all friends again ^.^ and this thread can rest in peace?

    5. For a Newbie, you are really insightful!!!
I second this. I did not mind the artful/tactful, only meant to inform remarks, and was thankful for them. Honestly, thank you to all the people who were kind in their responses to our enthusiasm. I did mind the holier than thou, you are clueless, comments. It is the first time on this forum that I felt we all were not friends here. Take my hand please.. if I stumble from the path, don't jerk my arm out of the socket to pull me away from it, you may have saved me from going down the wrong road, but I will not call you friend, I won't even thank you, not seeing past the sudden hurt you caused. I am long past being a child, I will make my own decisions and If I make a mistake, It is mine to make. A friend would never respond the way some of these people have, it made me angry and upset, and I was still processing all of the information that was thrown at us, after the initial excitement.... that was a hard blow. :(

    6. there should seriously be a DZ FAQs thread

    7. That would be a good idea. Even a sticky with links to the various threads that already include information on them would do.

    8. thank you, yes!

    9. it would really need to be all the threads though- including the reviews by people who have recently received dolls. that way we get the big picture.

    10. I think it's a good idea to have a thread with the basic info something like-
'DZ now make pretty dolls that people love, but they used to steal headmolds from CP (DZ Lynn/ CPWoori). but there is no solid evidence to prove that the new headmolds are stolen (or unique). take a look and decide for yourself; in the end it's your doll!'
and people can decide which half matters more to them,

plus links to happy owners threads, (as well as the more gloomy controversy.)

    11. As for the resin cost thing, I don't think material affects the cost of a doll quite as vastly as it may seem. It still affects it quite a bit, but even if a doll is made of a less expensive material and still takes the same amount of labor it's not going to cost 1/10th of the price even if the material cost 1/10th as much. Resin is fairly expensive for a raw material compared to PVC and such but it's not gold or anything.

    12. Info on Polystone:

      http://www.ultimatetoys.com.my/New/Polystone/What/PolystoneWhat.htm

Its cheaper because its resin + filler. For those who don't want to click:

And here is an interesting thread from another bbs about the difference:
      http://forums.megatokyo.com/index.php?showtopic=1692325&view=all

      Just for the curious.

    13. I don't suppose the next time a News thread about DollZone is posted, people will stop going on and on and on about the quality/paranoia/possibilties, etc.

I seriously think you're just.. beating a dead horse. I hope it drops come next thread.

    14. don't hold your breath :barf

    15. Heh, I think it would be nice to have a seperate thread on this that is just updates on the product, so people don't have to weed through discussions if they've already read what they feel is enough on the pro - con thing. I'd like the opportunity to just "clicky" read product or site updates then move on.

    16. how completely embarrassing that they should have read the rumours and hysteria and that this should represent Den of Angels to the outside world. :sigh what do you want to bet they'll be more polite to us than we have been to them...

    17. I'm glad DoA is represented, as I see it, with people who are willing to go the extra mile to inform buyers of possible moral conflicts. There are people who feel awful about Forever Doll. Just look at how that one recent auction turned into a huge flamewar. I think if people like DZ, then buy DZ, but I for one am so thankful to have forum members who are looking out for me, because quality or not I would feel horrible if I had bought one of those first dolls.

I am not saying "dont buy DZ" but seriously, if I get caught shoplifting from a store should I expect the managers to welcome me in with open arms everytime I go, even if I haven't stolen anything in a month? Of course not. DZ did something illegal, and we all have the right to be wary. In time it will be less evident, and we will see DZ as a true legit company who just got a bad foot off.

I'm glad there are those who are giving them a second chance, but I don't think we have any obligation to fall over ourselves with gratitude. They should be grateful to US for giving them that second chance.

(and they DO seem to be grateful, at least the dealers are :) )

    18. informing buyers of the past is one thing. accusing DZ of everything from ripping off doll clothes manufacturers to trying to bilk their customers on prices is something else entirely. that is not trying to protect the members of Den of Angels; that is paranoia run amok, and i find it disgusting. we need to stick to the truth. i have read every thread on DollZone. i have seen the comparison shots of Lynn and Woori, and yes, it looks like a copy to me. i am capable of doing my own research, thank you. i would never buy a doll from anyone without researching the company first. has anyone ever considered that the members of DoA are not morons?

"caring about the issue" is referring a newbie to the threads on DZ (including those started by the owners of new products). carrying on about it is accusing DZ of every crime on the planet. the people who do this need to rein their brains in a little and stop crapping on other people's threads.

    19. Wait, are you calling this a rumor?

    20. if you had read a little further down you would have noticed that i said i've seen the heads of Lynn and Woori. as in,
      okay?

if you must keep crusading, kindly let me know so i can read a book or something...

Since when stealing somebody else product and representing it as your own became such a mundane thing? I am not the one on the crusade here, although I perfectly understand why some people might be upset. It is hard to regain trust once you lose it, especially when it comes to morals of taking somebody else's hard work and making profit off of it.

    22. it becomes mundane when people repeat it over and over and over and over, as if the other people involved in the discussion have the brains of trout. state your case, then end it. i am not going to turn cartwheels of astonishment for your gratification; i am not that type of person. what i think is my business, and what i choose is also my business. i am not required to explain myself to you.

    25. Guys,

If you like dollzone buy if not then don't. Why are you posting on a thread where the company can read it? I'm sure they understand what they did was wrong. No one kicks dirt in your face when you do something wrong. Leave DZ alone, they are trying to be a repitable comapny and sell BJDs that they AREN'T copying. Drop it or I'm 100% positive this will end up being locked.

Also, I'm buying from DZ and no one is telling me otherwise. Back off and back down people

    26. thank you, Taco :aheartbea

    27. you're much more mature than i am. i need to learn to do this :nosebleed

    28. We are going to lock this thread as things have been getting rather heated during the discussion. Both sides have been stated and if there is new information that comes up, please PM a mod and we will reopen this thread for it to be added. Thank you! :)

      Edit: Please read!
