Dollzone, bad tan resin warning!

Aug 28, 2008

    1. Well, the last 2 Months ive had 3 Dollzone Tans for commission.
And what i got kinda.. shocked me.
Ive handled other Tan dolls before, so i know the differences between the resins.

With the first head the owner told me,
it seems that i wasn't able to remove the msc right. There is like white layer on the resin.
But as i was working with the head..i realized the white cloud was in bedded in the resin.
So i pm'ed her telling that it looked like the resin was badly mixed or losing color or something.

I completely thought this was gonna be a one time something.

But then the second commission came.
This head had the same... but then on his nose and cheeks.

The last Commission was a msd, and i got the complete doll.
And his legs, his shoulder and neck an chest were covered in it.
      His forehead was the worst.
I tried Sanding it to see if it would help... well of course everyone starts screaming.. NO DON'T SAND TAN RESIN..
but actually..nothing happened. [i sanded with poleshing sanding paper that actually hardly sands at all. on the inside of his headcap]
It didn't go away, and the resin didn't get worse or discolor because of it.

      So at first i thought,
mweh shouldn't be complaining. These dolls are cheaper so less quality could be expected.
But then the owner of the MSD told me she payed 351 usd for him.
      Wait WHAT?
I checked out the dollzone website, and all the dolls mentioned above where from dollzones new higher prices.

So i decided to post this,
because i think people should be warned.
Besides Joints that don't fit nicely and randomly legs with different lengths here and there.
Dollzone now sells bad tan resin dolls for high prices?

    2. I have a dollzone tan Yuu who i adopted recently(not sure how old he is but probly not that old) and the only odd colouring he has is where his seams have been sanded and it is slightly lighter then the rest of his body so it appears it's just recently this has begun happening but i now know i'm not the only one with dolls that have uneven legs as both my dz dolls (60cm girl and 70cm boy) have the same problem!

    3. Neither one of my boys have problems. They aren't tan, but all of their limbs are even. o__o

    4. has anyone tried contacting Dollzone about the problems?

    5. I hope someone does, i told the girl from the msd to do this,
and to tell the dealer but i don't think she ever did.

      I'm not a official owner.. so i can't. D:"

    6. I've never owned a Tan DZ But I've got 3 ( going on 4 ) Msds from them in White and NSPink and Their Limbs are all the right lengths But the Leg joints are yeah a little shallow so they kick more than I'd like But Each company usually has some issue.

    7. hmmmmmmmmmmm, well so far i don't see any problem with mine....yet, I'll do getting him commission for moding much later on, and i just recently got him...lordy i pray nothing is amiss >.>

    8. Well, i also find the joints of the arms to not fit well together.
Not like cp/fairylands or others Korean brands.
Which is not a big problem, but now they are upping the prices i think people expect more from them.
And end up buying something that isn't worth the price ~__~"

      Especially resin and design wise.

I made this threat to warn people for that, and probably more people have problems with the tan resin and don't even know it shouldn't be happening.
Now they know this isn't suppose to happen.

Every Tan resin has some issues.. but losing it's color isn't one that is acceptable.

    9. I'm searching for a tan body and I found your post very useful thank you!
      Not very reassuring unfortunately. ;___;
I wonder if the problems are the same with the old light tan resin they had before, maybe they should back to this one?

    10. I haven't had any problems with my tan DZ... I hope nothing's hiding under his face-up *has had him on default*

    11. My BB girl gets cloudy on her face when I take her face up off, but once you spray Testors over it it goes away. She's not tan though.

    12. my boy is tan, and new...and already i can see those dang white spot, with all these mishap from dollzone they are now offically on my black list!

    13. Wow... this was great timing for me, Naiara. :o

I knew about the odd arms and uneven legs... but this tan skin problem is news to me! And I was just considering adding a Dollzone tan gal to my wishlist. Thanks for bringing this to light before I started working up a personality for her.

    14. I've got one of their original Tanskin dolls... a Tanskin Yuu from one of their first batches. He's a much lighter Tan colour than the new ones and I have not had any issues whatsoever with him. No fading, splotchiness or cloudiness as far as I can see. I have not removed his faceup (and have no plans to do so anytime soon), but the rest of his body is not sealed and I don't have any problems with him.

It sounds like the issues are newer, but I'm glad someone put a thread up to warn people off. I'll make sure to let a friend of mine, who just recieved her Tanskin DZ Megi not too long ago, to watch out for that sort of thing. He looked good to me, though, and didn't have any issues with legs being uneven.

    15. I have to say that as much as I love DZ, I really don't care for their new tan. I have an older tan Megi who is SO wonderful. The tan is lighter, but it's beautiful consistent creamy resin.

I recently got a tan Hid (which my daughter snagged before I could bond with him). While there wasn't anything particularly wrong with his resin it was very orange. Same with a tan fox. I was so looking forward to the fox but the orange color put me off.

I'd be interested to find out what's going on with them...

    16. But maybe this problem with the tan resin sort out only when the DZ face-up is removed?

    17. Nope, i pm'ed the owners of the 2 heads i had.
      Same thing on their body.

The Hid on the Picture was send to me with his body.. and same thing there.

And yes it is only their new dark resin, as far as i know.
[didn't they stop producing the lighter resin]

I think it's only the tan resin of their limiteds, which makes it even worse.. bad limited dolls D:"

    18. sad to say it the resin itself that has problem, one mistake of miscommuation of the face up i can understand, second time still a screw up with a good mock up, alright problem can be slove, but the resin was the last straw for me, who pay over 700+ for something like that. I even email them without any reply -.-. I won't be dealing with them for a long time to come.

his back is the same way -.- tsks can't believe he isn't even over a month old >.>

    19. I get my Hid three weeks ago, his resin is ok (he's not tan skin), but I have the problem with uneven legs.
It's only a few mm, but first I thought he is damaged (he's my first doll).

    20. I receive a tan Hid in June of this year. He's patchy on his forehead, but I thought it was a bad coating of sealant. After reading this thread though, I'm nervous. Sigh.

    21. I don't have a tan doll, but i agree on the join thing. The limbs are fine, but the knee joints on my Yuu don't seem to fit well. But then again... my souldouble (which just the body is more expensive than the full yuu) joints also don't fit perfectly and one ankle and one wrist join are very thin on the resin. My dollshe, which is almost twice as much as my DZ, has bubbles, the joints don't fit and his ankles bend outwards. So, as far as i can tell each dolls has it's problems.

Tan dolls always end up with patches here and there after a while, so i've heard.

    22. Well at this point it's the resin that have this issue, simply the color fade away...
a friend of mine own a Mo pink skin and she noticed that his face was darker that his body whern she've receved him,but with time 2 months or something like that even the head faded and now body and face have the same ligher pink color....so it's not maybe only a problem with the tanned resin production....
btw as said by Saaya-chan even other companies have this kind of problem with the tanned production, as far as i know, i've read something similiar happened at soom..
And if this problem turns out only with the limited tanned production it's even worse....
i'm really scared reading this as my twinny wish to order a tanned chen....

    23. this happens with other resins as well, for example my migi doll WS head was rather alarmingly pink when I first got it but now has toned down to a much less noticeable pinky white

    24. Jup, thats a pretty normal things.

Company's do that on purpose ..

      1. MSC makes heads lighter.. so making the heads a little darker makes the resin of the head match the body [instead of your head being lighter then the body ~__~]

      2. Heads are not as dressed up as the body so discolor faster.

This bad tan resin thing is completely different.

    25. I'm a little worried here. I've been hoping to buy the new DZ Mo, and this is very disconcerting. Is it something that can't be fixed with some non-oil pastels and some mr.superclear?

    26. I've spoken with DZ about the Tan issue as I bought a Tanned doll to use as display and have the same problem. Where they have sanded the seems, there is difference in colour. Sunny said she will be speaking with her company about it and there will possibly be the option, in the future to select the doll without the sanding.

    27. Yu Qiao Mao:

The dolls i had with these problems weren't sanded + the problems weren't on seem line parts but really in the resin.
On places like the forhead, chest and lower legs.
Like on the photo i posted.

Marks from sanding happens on all tan dolls,
if not properly cleaned after sanding.

    28. Not always... I think it just depends on the resin quality. I have a tanned Latidoll from 2006 and his coloring is still smooth and even.

I've been contemplating another tanned doll, and I even looked at DZ. This thread makes me very nervous about buying one though. :(

    29. I was referring to my case. Under the Chin and on the Forehead there's clear discolouration from the sanding. I cant show photographic proff as I've face-upped the doll to cover it.

    30. e_e;; I've just put a nice tan Shoyo on order...I hope this craziness doesn't affect her, I'd just about die, since she is my dream doll...D:

    31. Naiara ~ i just got to work with a tan dollzone like that, It was weird!

    32. Sounds like they have the same problem as Bobobie colored resin. When we went to remove the faceup, it was cloudy and white all over. What a mess it is to clean off too!

This makes me sad. I was planning on getting a Tan Floy or Quinn. Moo ;_; But not for the price they are asking if I have to go through the Bobobie mess again. :/

    33. i'm still tick at them, i got no reply for the email i sent to them either, so i won't be dealing with DZ anymore, and looking at yuu and his discoloration...so tick me off even more.

    34. I got a Tan Mo-2 about two months ago and besides an orangey color I think he was pretty even (he was my first doll, but I think I would know if he was uneven). I don't know what's up with the newest tans for the dolls...DZ was good with mine...but this is only for the new tanned Mo and Megis, right? I wonder what's up...

    35. i havent order from dollzone, i prefer to buy second hand

    36. I have tan Yuu from DZ that was produced on december 2007 as a card that was sent with him says. He has exactly the same problem! But not only on his face. There are white clouds bedded in the resin on his forehead, cheek, chin, right shoulder and on the back closer to waist.

    37. Does anyone know if this is affecting the new tan Mo-3s and Megi-3s? I'll be ordering a Mo-3 from Denverdoll tomorrow, and I'm very worried. I haven't seen any ownerpics of the new dolls around, so I don't know what they're like. Any info?

    38. If it helps Flurf I've had my tan floy about a month, he's patchy in places (mostly his torso and chest) but not enough for it to be an issue.

    39. It might have been a bad batch or something, I have a tan Linlan from the first release and she looks fine overall, I have given her 3 faceups and used strong brush cleaner to alcohol, and her face is as usual. I also have given her a few baths and unstrung her. I hope they just messed up that batch because they have a really beautful tan color.

    40. I've heard that DZ don't use a tan resin but rather spray the dolls tan- is that true?

    41. Nope, the resin's tan.

    42. I have a Luts Tanned Lishe and she is a lovely even tan all over (except where a previous owner sanded the seams), so I agree with you it is a factor of resin quality not just being tanned resin.

I forgot to add - you need to watch the DZ eye putty, if it is the stuff smells like gasoline it has been known to melt acrylic eyes. :barf Nasty stuff, you really need to get rid of it!

    43. Great info on the dz tans I has been looking at the silver fox but with this many problems i may look at a Luts doll instead.

    44. Thanks so much everyone for sharing this information. I have been considering getting a tan Chen from Dollzone (especially with the upcoming Christmas promo) but the resin issue is so worrying. DZ dolls are no longer priced "cheap" and tan would cost an extra $80, so the not-so-great quality is especially disappointing. :( My sunlight skin girl has no such problems so it is possible to make a good quality tan doll!

Does anyone know if the recent tan DZ dolls have been having problems? I suppose its wishful thinking to hope it was just a bad batch or two . . .

    45. I should be getting one of the new Mo's in the mail within the nect month or two. If there are any resin problems, I'll be sure to report them. I sure hope he doesn't! It would suck, especially since he's my first doll.

    46. oh yea it recent....mine is like a water down tan >.> really i think i'm so ticked off, i'm not :doh

    47. I'm kind of disapointed to see this reaction.

ive never had an uneven DZ dolls. O.o and ive had like...at least 10 dolls but im sure theres one or two im missing. and out of those, 3 were tan...and my friend has another like 8...3 or 4 of hers are tan...2 old, 2 new; one of which is new as of a month or less...and again. no problem. her oldest gets the marbeling problem...but again its from sealent issues and not in the resin.

I dont understand. we order our dolls without faceups...so it might be a problem with DZ's sealent. and i know you say its all over...it could also be a reaction to the mold release used in their mold's for casting. obviously they have to use something so the resin doesnt stick to their molds.

As for the uneven limbs? never ever have i had a dollzone doll that was uneven. And like i listed above, between my friend and i we've own alot...and every size too...in every color...even their earliest batchs (which we didnt know about the complications between volks and Dz when we adopted a version one girl) and never have we had this problem.

so i hope this is just a batch issue...because these are harsh aqusations. :(

    48. I guess I solved the problem yesterday when I was remaking faceup. For the case when the white clouds go away when you water them and all the time while the doll stays wet but comes back after it dries. I ocasionally took the wrong bottle and instead of nail polish remover took waterproof eye makeup remover. Mine is quite oily. I panicked and washed it away asap but I noticed that it took much more time for the white clouds to come back. Then I gave it a try and put light layer of oil on the head. Then I waited for about 20 minutes and wiped it with a soft towel. After that I put two heavy layers of MSC. And after it dried.. voilà! NO WHITE CLOUDS AT ALL! I checked the system once again on the body and got the same result - they were gone!

    49. I'm worried about what future rammifications that might have on your doll. Keep us updated on the happenings though, Dante. I really want to see what affect the oil has on your doll.

As for me, this accusation/discovery is quite disturbing because I'm saving for a Tan Floy as my Grail Doll and my friend Squeek is saving for a Tan Chen as hers. x: I'll be subscribing to this thread and maybe contacting FeatherFall, the dealer here in Canada for DZ, see if they know anything about what's going on over there. Maybe they just had a really bad batch of resin. *shrugs* But uneven legs is inexcusable as well; these dolls are supposed to be art, not haphazard barbies, I'm appaled that DZ hasn't come forward to the people with poor dolls to replace them (if it was my company, I would at least make an effort). D<

    50. Seiaeka, no changes so far.

    51. Mmm, I don't think this thread is really about accusations, but more of a "buyers beware".

I have seen DZs tan skin as well, and those dolls were beautiful! But that doesn't mean that newest batches can't have this problem now.

I certainly hope their tan resin gets better!

    52. Dollzone is coming out with the new bodies lately. I wonder if the tan issue was simply a one batch mistake. I'd like to know what people experience when getting new tan DZs
