Dollstown Mini discussion part 5

Feb 15, 2014

    1. My girl landed today, too! Usually I don't like to choose a name until after the faceup is done, but she latched onto a little black bob wig for "first looks," and now she insists that her name is Joon Yi . . . so we'll see whether that sticks for the long haul.

I absolutely love the proportions of the Amy head on the 7yrs body, so my background fussing about that was completely unnecessary, whew!

    2. Yay!

      Teddy

    3. How exciting!!! Has your girl arrived yet Cynthia?

Edit: I see she has *yippee* good luck in getting her a face-up slot now! And great that she is perfect on the DT7 body too!

    4. Congratulations Cynthia! I was wondering whether your girl had arrived. I'm glad that you are happy with the Amy head on the DT7 body. It will be interesting to see if she remains Joon Yi or presents another name.

I tried all the Nine9 style clothing on the DT7 body and everything fit. While doing so I realized I definitely need to suede the body. I've had Anneliese kneeling in the curio and so her body had loosened considerably since she arrived. My DT5 body doesn't feel like it needs sueding but I know it is just because it is new.

I will be mailing Lilianna's head to AngelToast today. I imagine it will be a month or two before she returns. I can't wait until she returns from the spa and my girls can officially meet.

Teddy - I've finished reading both of the Wells & Wong mystery books that have been released on Kindle to the US market. It is so funny that many of the ideas I thought of are in the books.

    5. We're two books ahead of you over here (not in Kindle, I can't do the ebook thing so dinon't know about kindle) in print versions at least.

      Great Minds Think Alike

I must get around to changing January - she's still in the owl-dress she wore to the Japanese Tea Gardens and it's all crumpled from her being packed in my hand luggage for the flight home.

      Teddy

    6. Wow! Congratulations!)

    7. Thanks Sanny-san! I see you are new to DoA. Welcome!

    8. Could anyone cheer me up with some Ganga pictures whilst I wait for my girl? She is meant to ship this week but no shipping notice yet, and had rubbish news about a hospital appointment today so I need cheering!

    9. Here are my two Lucy.....

I hope you get good news about your Ganga really soon ((hugs))

    10. Oh look how sweet they are sitting there chatting!

    11. Love the picture Jane! It looks like they are discussing their next adventure for the HHC! They look so lifelike in their spring outfits. Hopefully Lucy's wait won't be too much longer!

    12. Thank you both ((hugs)) I love Ganga......obviously as I have two! LOL! But I prefer to see them side on most of the time as the Ganga pout can be quite intimidating at times!

But I can see the smile behind it!
      Dear little Megan

    13. Thank you for the pics of your gorgeous girls Jane!!! I love the Ganga pout, it will hopefully be perfect for the character I have in mind for my girl :)

And guess what!! I came on here to check the thread, saw your lovely girls, and went and checked my email one more time and guess who has a shipping notice!!! Eeeeep! So excited!!,

    14. Oh what wonderful news! :dance
Do you have a face-up artist sorted yet?

    15. You *can* see the smile behind Megan's little pout! Obviously your girls brought Lucy good luck!

    16. Yaay!

      Teddy

    17. Some more Ganga spam for the thread...here's my Emma from her arrival pics a couple of years ago. She's pretty much retained the same look ever since. I don't find her pouty really, just serious about the business of being a kid...

    18. She is lovely Alice! Thanks for sharing her :)

My Ganga landed at Heathrow on Saturday :) She hasn't moved any further yet though as of course, it is Bank Holiday weekend here. Hopefully she will move tomorrow and won't get stuck in customs for too long. I am so excited to meet her!!

    19. I hope the Bank Holiday backlog clears quickly so there's no delay gettign her out to you.

Fingers crossed for there being no Ransom too

      Teddy

    20. That is brilliant news Lucy..........I hope she skips through customs without getting caught too.

    21. I'm hoping that your Ganga has left Heathrow and is on her way to you Lucy. It was a holiday weekend here in the States as well.

I finished my kitchen project, but I had to go out of town today for work. I'll be gone for 11 days so no chance to paint the bedroom and then start on sewing for my girls.

    22. Safe work trip Coleen......I hope you can at least plan for the girls while you are away.

    23. Ganga's tracking updated today to "customs charges raised" which is sad because it means I have customs fees to pay, but good because she should be at my local depot my tomorrow or Friday so then I'll be able to pay her fees and get her home to me! Could be by the weekend but probably more likely Monday now.

    24. I haven't heard of that tag line before......but then it has been over two years since I bought a resin doll. Good luck for her getting to you sooner rather than later *fingers crossed*
Have you got any clothes at home for her yet?

    25. Well my Ganga is moving towards me slowly. She has been "sorted" at the national hub today so tomorrow she should be at my local depot so I can ring and pay her customs fees and then I will just have the dilemma to decide of whether to pay extra for Saturday delivery or wait for her until Monday...

Jane, some clothes arrived for her today! And I have two other dresses on the way. So hopefully the ones already here will fit. Its wigs I am most worrying about as the ones I'd ordered to try for her arrived and I hate them! So hopefully they will look better on or I can find something else to fit her here.

    26. Have you decided what to do yet? And oh no about the wigs!!! What don't you like about them?

    27. Haven't decided yet, it will depend how much extra it costs and what my customs charge is. I'll probably wait until Monday.

The wigs, the colour isn't quite as expected with either of them. One of them I have had the style a few times before in smaller sizes but the cut of this one just isn't the same; and the other, the style isn't quite right, it's bangs are much longer than shown on stock photos and it's got braids and it arrived squashed so they are sticking out at funny angles. It may be salvageable but you know how it is when you get something and are disappointed, you never quite gel with it. So we'll see!

    28. Great news about your Ganga arriving; bad news about the custom fees. I don't understand it and I am just glad we don't have that in the States! It can really add to your doll expenses!

I am sorry to hear that the wigs aren't working out for you. It is great that your clothing has arrived! Did you order anything from Nine9 style? What vision do you have in mind for your Ganga's style and personality?

I still feel very much in limbo since my Lilianna is headless at the moment!

    29. Poots!

I hope you sort the wig situation

      Teddy

    30. The customs fee was ยฃ27 :( Which is bad but not as bad as it could have been as she was marked down so I dread to think what it would have been if she was declared full value! And in actual fact, the customs fee part was only about ยฃ19 as there is about an ยฃ8 handling charge from Parcel Force included in that. Rubbish! Needless to say, I did not pay extra for Saturday delivery as that would have been an extra ยฃ12! She will be here Monday, I can wait that long!

I haven't ordered from Nine9 yet, I need to sell a few more things on ebay first to raise some money haha! My Ganga will be very much a little girl so just simple regular girl clothing I guess. Quite casual, nothing too frilly. But we'll see what she says when she arrives hehe :)

I hope Lilianna comes back soon! My girl's head will be sent off as soon as she arrives too so I'm not looking forward to that but at least she will return with a nice face ready for fun and photos :)

Thanks Teddy! Hopefully they will look better on or I can find something else here that fits for now :(

    31. That was a low customs charge *phew* was she marked down automatically or did you ask? Roll on Monday now!

And I can quite understand that feeling of limbo Coleen.......a doll is not much fun without a head *sigh*

    32. She's here!! She is going off for a faceup tomorrow but wanted to snap some pics first and see how some of her clothes fitted. Luckily everything I've got for her so far fits fine :) Totally forgot about eyes though! Need to see if I have any to fit. And shoes!!

I think I will get away with just glue sueding her too which is good!

The wig she is wearing is one of the ones I didn't like but it looks better on. She will keep it for now but I'll probably still look out for a different one for her.

On the name shortlist at the moment are Alice and Olive. We'll see what she decides when she has a face :)

    33. Oh Lucy! She looks adorable already!!! I am just so pleased for you. And I love that dress set she has, it so suits her. Will you decide on her name when she returns with her face-up?
And good luck in finding eyes for her....fancy forgetting them! LOL!

    34. She looks cute even without the face-up.

I hope she returns from getting it done quickly.

      Teddy

    35. Lucy, your Ganga looks so cute even without her faceup! The wig looks good on her; the color and I like the messy braid look as that is what happens with an active child! She already has a little piglet! I'm glad you took a pic of her. It makes me wish I had done so with Lilianna instead of just shipping her out. But, I wanted to keep her head wrapped in the face cover because the faceup artist I sent Anneliese to cut her face with a knife when she opened the box. She had to sand her face, which I wasn't too happy about.

    36. Oh, @princesspetal, what a darling little Olive!! :love :love :love (yes, I've already voted for her name, heh)

Maiya has sent me the initial proof picture for my Amy/possibly-Joon-Yi's faceup, but sadly I'm leaving on vacation in a few days, so I'll have to wait and get acquainted with her after I come home in a couple of weeks. Her body is sitting around in a cute Ajumapama dress and a pair of leggings; I've ordered a few more wardrobe pieces for her that should arrive while I'm away, so there will be a big welcome party at the end of the month!

    37. Cynthia - Wonderful news on your faceup being nearly completed. I know you must be anxious to go on vacation but wouldn't it be nice if your girl arrived before you left!

I was leaning towards Olive for Lucy's Ganga as well. My grandmother's name was Olive. :)

    38. What fabulous new Cynthia about the face-up being nearly finished. Does her chosen name still seem to suit her do you think?
Enjoy your holiday......and I hope you have fabulous weather

    39. January came in to work with me today:

Her pretty owl dress is by Anne Morgan and even has a toy owl in the pocket to go with the ones printed on the fabric.

      Teddy

    40. I just love this dress for January......is it new? It could have been made with January in mind!

    41. @Teddy, January is gorgeous! I do love seeing dolls out and about in the "real" world, too -- did January get any career ideas from her day at the office?

Her sandals remind me . . . does anyone know of a current source for that particular style? Mimiwoo used to stock them, and now I wish I had bought every color -- I only have black, red, and beige. I've ordered some Sasha-sized sandals and sneakers that might work for my childlike minis, but I suspect they'll look more like doll shoes (if you see what I mean) than like miniature people's shoes.

My Amy head came home today with Maiya's beautiful faceup!! I'm letting the eyelash glue dry overnight before putting in her eyes and trying wigs, but I'll be back with pictures soon. With the faceup she looks more like a Sophy than a Joon Yi, but we'll see what tomorrow brings. ;)

    42. It's recent-ish. I think I got it at the last meet I went to, but can't for the life of me remember when that was...

Thanks Cynthia, I don't think any of the dolls I take into work with me are interested in careers yet, ecept perhaps the eldest gir who wants to go into the theatre but doens't know in what capacity - perhps stage management, perhaps costumes. - all of which is a far cry from my boring cataloguing job in a university library.

Sorry Cynthia, I thought I'd seen them on Etsy recently but can't find them there now. Good hunting!

Yay! I'll llook forward to seeing pictures of her

      Teddy

    43. You were wise to wait before truly naming her when she was just a blank head......I am so looking forward to seeing her now.
And I agree with your *wail* about those Mimiwoo sandals. I wish I had bought lots more from Mimiwoo too..............it just never occurred to me that it wouldn't always be there!! *duh me*

    44. Are they actually discontinued, or just out of stock at the moment?

Perhaps if they get enough requests for them they'll reinstate them...?

I only have them in green and gold, I think.

      Teddy

    45. I don't know Teddy, it is a good question...............I just haven't seen them for sale in years now. I like Blue Fairy shoes for my girls too.

    46. Well poo - it doesn't seem like that long ago I saw them for sale - but with my memory it could be years and just seems like yesterday to me.

I like JuJu's Dolly Mall mary-janes for my DollsTown girls, but the sandals she does look more like dolls shoes than real shoes

      Teddy

    47. Well lets hope that I haven't been looking in the right places and there are lots of them out there somewhere. And I like to see my girls dressed in Mary-Janes too

    48. Let's continue in a nice new discussion thread: Part 6 !

      :)
