Unfortunately it's a head I really really like... Which is why I've been reluctant to sell it on even thoguth I keep telling myself I don't need another doll of this size. Teddy
I tried the body-share thing years ago and all it meant was one head languished in a box because I never got around to changing them over. Teddy
@peregrina, that is a beautiful girl...I like the DIM sculpts and they seem to go really well with the elf body, plus the colour match is really good! Is that Oriental? @Xiaoli, what lovely girls! @rianne *gasp* she is really lovely!! @Teddy, well you know how much I love Peggy... And to add to the elf body spam, here's my Ariadne (elf body and Arin head in freshskin with a faceup by Jay Searle)
Sure is! Well spotted! I'm still stunned at how that whole roll of pictures were so good when most of mine are usually pretty dire...
Location, location, location...? I got some pretty good pictures on that trip myself, even if the beach did come over all dull and overcast when we tried for pictures there andf some of them were inside instead Teddy
@Teddy - what an adorable photo!!! The Bimong Dandelion looks interesting - is the head going to be available again? Sharing a triptych of Dollstown Elf Soyu! still can’t believe Soyu is being discontinued.... they were painted by @Jay with Gumdrops urethane eyes. Wren wears a red/gold Amadiz wig, Fawn a blond Monique Gold. I made their dresses.
@Alice80 thank you! I'm so jealous of beach shots haha. Such a good natural backdrop. @Follow-the-Wind Thank you! Your soph b never fails to amaze me
My Maru on the Elf body...…………….she's the Realpuki whisperer...………...all the wee ones love her. The Realpuki Whisperer by wizgerg3, on Flickr
You've styled them beautifully. So many of the heads are being discontinued. It looks like only one Elf head, one 7Year head, and one five year head will be left after the others are discontinued. That's an evocative look she has going on. What an adorable concept! Teddy
@Follow-the-Wind wow! That's so striking...and an amazing concept! I actually love the old elf bodies...I'm not so much of a fan of the elbows on the new ones. I'd love to have Maru and Soyu, but it would have to be with the new bodies so I haven't so far...but now they're being discontinued, perhaps I had better think about expanding my DT grouping... @JinCIncy Your Maru is utterly gorgeous...and reminding me of how much I love the sculpt. When the Maru head first came out, I remember discussion somewhere (could have been just me and a friend via email now I think about it! LOL) about whether the head was too small for the elf body...but I haven't seen any evidence of it, and your girl is beautiful! Who did her faceup?
Exclusive shirt from a friend. Jeans from Forever Virginia back when she sold them instead of just patterns.
My Elf Luna has arrived. She has a dress, shoes, eyes, and after much trying on and discarding--a wig. Now all I need is some warm weather (without precipitation) so I can do her face-up. Then she'll be ready for photos.
I am working on a Shinydoll Eefee/ DT elf body hybrid, and wonder if I can show her here when she is finished?
And here she is: Elf Luna with face-up by me, SoulDoll eyes, 7/8 LeekeWorld wig, "Seasons for Seola" dress pattern by Gracefaerie (perfect fit), MSD-size shoes from LeekeWorld. Generally I prefer warmer weather for spraying MSC, but at least it was above freezing and there was nothing falling out of the skies (snow, hail, rain, etc.). It was windy, however, which means my rhododendron got as much MSC as the doll head did.
@Teddy - Thanks! @animemom - Thanks! The print was tricky to work with because the flowers are small at the top of the fabric and get larger as you go down, which means I don't have a lot of each size to work with. I dressed an FID in the smaller flowers. I haven't killed the rhododendron yet, despite spraying it with MSC nearly every time I do a face-up. I live in a windy area, so there is no controlling where the spray will go.
Thank you. I wanted to wait for her arrival to make the dress, but I got tired of waiting and made it anyway. Glad I did, because she shipped two days after I finished sewing.
@vermont chick - Your Luna is lovely! And your sewing obviously sent some message into the ether that she needed to come home to try the frock on! Here, my poor Cecily finally got something new to wear...she's been in dresses forever but the kids she hangs out with (my DT gang) are all so much more informal, so she's been begging for playclothes. I spotted these dungarees on Mandarake and hoped they'd fit - and they do...perfectly! She is a Seola7 on the elf body with a faceup by the utterly wonderful Ravendolls! I just need to suede or wire her as she is so ping-y...
@Alice80 - Thank you! I like your super-cute dungarees. I'm sure Luna would like something similar for when she's in play mode, although right now she's enjoying showing off the dress. Thanks @Solsikke!
Oh Alice, I'm so glad the dungarees work for her. It must be nice for Cecily to finally has somethin gn she can play in unconcerned about ruining her pretty dresses. Teddy
I’d like to share the new summery dresses (and petticoats) that I just finished for my gals. They are oriental resin Dollstown Elf Soyu, both painted by @Jay They both have Gumdrops urethane eyes and Monique Gold wigs. Fawn is my brown eyes blond gal, Wren is my green eyed redhead. Their dresses are sewn with batiste fabric, with Swiss embroidered petticoats. I did the machine embroidery while learning to use my machine (really steep learning curve on that). Sewing for these gals is such fun! dresses with petticoats peeking out: and showing off their fancy petticoats http://periodthreads.com/ztemp/dolls-2019/DT-elf3.jpg
Sorry, mine only wears 1920s/30s stuff so I can't be of any help. Hopefully others who follow this thread can supply some recommendaations. Teddy
TTYA on Etsy sells some MSD tops that fit Dollstown Elf Body. Also Sashapotamus on Etsy sells very cute tops. Leggings are the best for bottoms as jeans are difficult to fine unless custom made.
Question: does anyone have comparison between dollstown Paleskin and Fresh. I did see on the website Fresh appears pinker. I am looking for more photos if possible. I need a body for a Notdoll head. The head is a white with a clear pink tone to it. So darker than white but not even close to Volks Normal skin much lighter. I am trying to decide on Paleskin or Fresh? I do need some pink to the resin! (I am wanting an elf body). ** I think Paleskin will be the best match but want to explore Fresh just in case it might work.
I have no comparison photos as have never purchased a pale skin from Dollstown. But I can tell you a fresh skin will have the slight pink tone, but depending on age of body it can warm up to a more mellow tone, not sure what your head's skin tone will do. I have always purchased fresh or oriental skin tones, but its easier and cheaper to adjust a head then it is a body. So I suggest buy new from Dollstown and get the fresh skin.
This head is quite a few years old so pretty stable. The people I bought her from said she had a pale skin elf body which was about 2 years old and had mellowed and matched well. So was curious about the fresh skin. Thanks for your input!
I used to have a paleskin DT and it was totally snow white, I had to sell her as it was just too white for me, I do have a freshskin .
the pale is really white and mellows to cream, the fresh is a pale pink fleshtone with mellow yellow undertone, decidedly not a blue pale pink but more salmon-y pale pink, when i have my pale skin and fresh skin seolas next to one another.
um!! well I have to hope the fresh skin would not go too yellow. I keep my doll out of the light so that would help. thanks for all the feedback
This girl is pale white: Right side tattoo2 by Martha David, on Flickr this girl is fresh skin Face/eye test by Martha David, on Flickr the white is very white initially
Thanks! I just went ahead and order the freshskin. Will be slightly darker I would think but the white looks so white. My girls has some pink color for sure. Should be interesting to see how she looks on the body! Will be spoilt with that new body.
Did anyone else order the Sarang Limited Edition head? It was advertised for the 7yr body but photos online also show it on the Elf body. (Frankly, I can't imagine it on a 7yr.) I ordered it in Pure skin as an extra (i.e., alternate) head for my Luna Elf. The weather finally cooperated so that I could do her faceup. Here she is:
I hadn't even realized there was a limited edition head. Works well on the Elf body. Glad you finally got a chance to give her a faceup. Teddy
I have just ordered the Xiao Yu head from Black Cherry Dolls and she recommends the Elf body for this head. I ordered the head in Copper so will need the Dollstown Copper Oriental resin body, which apparently is an 80% match...I'm good with that. Has anyone on here got an Elf body in that skin tone that they can show me please? I've been through this thread and saw Jane's lovely darker girl but don't know what shade she is (although I'm sure Jane did tell me in the past ), only that she's gorgeous! Later I will go and start looking on the first thread. I am loving the look of this slim body and she will be my only girl over MSD size so am really looking forward to sewing in that bigger size again. Hugs Sharon in Spain xx
I have quite a few Copper Oriental dolls - it is my new favorite color. I love the way it photographs. I know I have an elf somewhere in my photo stream on Flikr but can't fine it so this is a little girl - in Copper Oriental. New Fraternal Twins by Martha David, on Flickr Hopefully won't get in trouble with a second photo - but this shows it in different light. Rian by Martha David, on Flickr I also love doing face ups on it. I think some of the best I've done have been on the Copper Oriental girls - may be the color or I may be getting better with practice. Vermont Chick: I ordered Sarang as well with the elf body.
Thanks @Teddy. The head was advertised in the BJD News section here back on July 11th or 12th ( New Doll - Dollstown Torre's new head release). It's an edition of 50 units, which I assume means a combination of heads and full dolls until the number reaches 50, rather than 50 of each. @Xiaoli - I can't wait to see how you paint your Sarang. Did you order her in Copper Oriental? I had to get Pure Skin to match the elf body I already have. I hope your order doesn't take too long. Mine arrived quickly because the head was in stock.
Thank you so much @Xiaoli for the information and the photos, your girls are lovely and this is such a great colour. I love tanned dolls, nearly all of my dolls are tanned as I love how it photographs in the sunshine (we have a lot of sunshine here in southern Spain!). I thought I was going to have to wait on ordering the body as I haven't got enough in my paypal account but hubby, bless his little cotton socks, said I can borrow the rest from the bank account and pay it back when a doll I have sold on layaway, is paid for! So I'm going to order now Hopefully that'll mean that the head and the body will arrive within maybe a few weeks of each other as the head should take about 2 months plus 3 weeks for the faceup from Blisslacosta. I just love how long and lean these bodies are!!!
I have a question for any seamstresses on here. If you're sewing for your Elf body, what size patterns are you using, or are you just making your own or adapting existing already made ones please? I fancied making something in advance of my body arriving and have patterns here for SD sized dolls but seeing as the Elf body is very slim and doesn't appear too large, I don't want to make something for it to be waaaay too big for her. Any ideas or suggestions welcome
Hi Sharon, SD size patterns are too broad. They'd swamp the DT Elf body. GraceFaerie Patterns does some specifically for the DT Elf (there's a four-seasons pattern for example) and I've foudn them very easy to adapt too. But you've sewn for the Elf body before. You made this lovely sailor outfit for me when I had my Nettle on the DT Elf body, years ago: Teddy
