I put a ShinBi on 16 year body in oriental copper on layaway She will be my first DT, I’m super excited :3

 

Question about heel feet: is the “stiletto” part of DT’s heel feet removable or is it sculpted on to the feet? I’m looking at the feet and wondering how you fit shoes on them

 

It's removable. The heel bit fits into the foot like a plug, so when you take it out you'll see a hole in the foot, which isn't an issue unless you wanna take pics showing the bare soles.

Please does anyone have an overview of what clothes and shoes fit DT17 ver. I boys?

 

I have been buying items from GuluUP on Etsy. They are oversized, but the fit is good enough as he is very casual. Best to go with the 70cm stuff. If your looking for more tailored stuff you will need to look in custom made items. The size is close to Iplehouse EID but the length and other details can make items not fit right.

For reference on the 18 girl body: I've weighed Nadia at 1.93kg (no clothes or wig). The weight is really nice.
This is in line with this post from 2020 so there's no difference after the shift to inhouse casting (I believe Dollshe was still casting back then).

 

I'm absolutely in awe with her. I love how much sculptural detail comes up when she's lit from one light source.
Still waiting on outfits but I swear I feel like putting clothes on her is a downgrade

I still have no specific direction for Nadia or the twin Yujin (I still need to find a name that feels right). I'll style them together. I want to make them contrasting in some way. I've spotted a few outfits I'll get after the twin is complete, and I'm anticipating that like nothing else until the end of the year I want to get everyone a nice wardrobe.

I just got a shipping notice about my Copper Oriental ShinBi About how long did you shipping take for some of y’all? I live in the US.

 

@krystina I got two shipments so far and they were both crazy fast to Italy (3-4 days). Not sure about the USA but DT ships express so it should be fast.

Talking of early 2000s and slightly before that I think in this photo she looks a wee bit like Sarah Michelle Geller aka Buffy (as in The Vampire Slayer), not so much in other pictures just this one.
That’s what I love about Dollstown sculpts, they can take severe lighting and still look incredibly striking!

 

@Blodeuwedd A friend always teases me that she looks a lot like Avril Lavigne her codename when I didn't have a name yet was Avril. With a blond wig it's hard to unsee. Not that I'm complaining, AL is gorgeous.

I got my girl today Well actually, she came yesterday but I wasn’t home to receive her

This is my first Dollstown- I was not prepared for it Her resin is very different than the dolls I have or have had.
Very textured, I feel like I’m handling a ceramic or something
Any care tips I should be aware of for Dollstown? I plan to send her to a faceup artist (maybe komorebi ) Should I request anything special? I notice ShinBi eyelids are thinly sculpted and looks like it has small chips- should I get those smoothed out?
Any tips I will take

 

@krystina I'm glad she made it there safe and sound! By chips do you mean flash, leftover resin? Or do you mean the eyelids are actually chipped?

 

Thank you @lutke I’ve been playing with her for the last couple days, I just love how easy she is to pose and still discovering what style I want her to have. I really love the copper oriental color- it’s a very warm brown so I’m thinking I should go with a warm tone faceup.

For the eyelids, on her right one is just a teeny chip on the very edge of the eyelid (not the crease) but I noticed the lid part in general looks a bit brittle and uneven. When I get a chance I’ll post a pic. I’m sure once she’s faced up it probably won’t make a difference - I’m thinking to ask the artist to see what they recommend since they’ve done so many.

 

@krystina Try to shine a flashlight from behind the eyelids to see if there's a crack. If it's not flash it could be an air bubble? You could send a mail to DT about it.

@krystina in the meantime, post pictures (if you want)! Especially of the posing! I've been eyeing the 16 for a future doll because the torso's mobility does look amazing and I'm sure it's a lot of fun to handle.
I'm still undecided if to get my Kana in Copper or just Oriental; I can't guess the exact color from user pictures because it varies wildly from picture to picture and I want to exclude very old pictures which may have a different shade. I am slightly biased toward Oriental because Kana's face works slightly better in a lighter skin tone for me, but I really want a doll in tan to style a bit more sunny.
Actually does anyone have two recently cast dolls in Oriental and Copper, side by side? Sorry for pinging you @animemom but I think you do and maybe you can help?

 

Yes! I have a busy week this week going to the weekend (cleaning my place as I’m having family over etc) but as soon as they gone I will definitely take pics and post

And yes I agree, user pics are really hard to nail this color accurately. In daylight she looks more pink tan but in indoor light, looks a little more yellow tan (not really yellow, like a tint). It’s a very beautiful tan- I’m very pleased.

And the 16 year body is perfect for me- I didn’t want too tall of a doll and the 13 body looked too small. I’m now planning more girls this size (I want a Mano, Evana, Seola, and also looking at Kanna ) I agree on your take with Kanna- but I also can’t help but think she would be amazing in copper too. I wish DT posted more pics of their dolls in Copper with faceup- I need to see the range with this resin color.

 

Sorry I sold my cooper oriental girl or rather I gave her to my BFF. To many dolls here and she already had bought two others so I sent #3 along.

 

I will say the cooper oriental is a beautiful color but flaws in the resin show very strongly like it does in tan.

@Lirin do you type the password in manually or do you use a manager or the saved password from the browser? Did the account work before? If you have other languages on your device and you're typing manually, you might be trying to type with the wrong keyboard (it happened to me ) The "password is too long" sort of message - if the number of characters is right - can appear when you are typing non-standard special characters (something like extended ASCII like ö or Ñ and not the usual characters like $%&@?! etc.) I have never had issues with passwords on the DT site and I just logged out and back in, but I've had this happen on other sites.

This makes me think the account was never registered to begin with. Did you just make it?

 

I have the same problem as you: I never receive the email with the temporary password, even in my spam. You can ask AnjonghaK. He will send you a temporary password that you can change later. He kindly helped me last year because I couldn't remember mine. (And of course, I forgot about it again. I'll have to bother him again soon, for another order. )

@krystina I saw her! Kana is gorgeous and blond is just perfect on her.

 

An Jonghak just posted a picture of the blushing work on my twin's body on Instagram. The blushing he does is so beautiful and worth every penny. I can't think of ordering his dolls without, I'm totally spoiled
I am looking forward to see how it will look on Modern Grey when I order Kana.

@VickieAngela Yujin is beautiful! Most people style the sculpt as a boy. There is another girl posted recently in the "review" gallery on the Dollstown site.

I'm getting my twin's body tomorrow morning though I got dinged harder than I expected with UPS "fees" importing dolls in the EU is so annoying.

@citronrouge Congrats! Byula is gorgeous. After Kana I might get Soi or Byula. For how gorgeous it is, the 18 body doesn't have the most flexible torso joint, so I'll get that one on the 16. How are you enjoying the posing on yours?
Still on the fence and there are also other heads I'd like to hybrid with a DT body, but there's plenty of time

 

@lutke Yes, I really enjoy the 16 and 17 years bodies posing even if i still have a preference for the design of the 17. (I also took the opportunity to order the new knees for the bodies i have. I'm curious to see the difference.). I have DT dolls for almost 20 years now and i was never disappointed by the bodies i tried (7, elf, 13, 16 and 17). For me, very personnally, they are the most beautiful bodies in the whole BJD community (with Alchemic Labo ones)

I'm still deciding her look. I showed her to my mom and asked her what I should do for makeup. She is thinking bright red lips (none of my dolls have this) and I'm thinking of trying bright red. I think I want to go with a more warm color theme for her face - maybe with some glitter

Copper is a really beautiful skintone! Shinbi looks great with painted lips, I've seen a few. She looks more mature that way also.

 

Sorry to hijack the thread, but does anyone have any advice for an easier way to restring the new knee parts onto the 18 boy body? I was ready to do it and discovered that he doesn't have hooks on his feet, but it's just strung through. I'm in denial that I have to disassemble the entire string to change it Does anyone who has changed them have any tips or is it just gonna be a small project?

 

A million years ago I discovered that my Soph had no s hooks on the feet. Honestly, I just went out and got some and then strung the doll like I normally would rather than bother to untie/retie knots again in order to fully disassemble and clean the body in the future.

More recently I did use the "feet first" method to string a different doll though, because the s hooks that came with the doll were not working well with the jointing and scratching the resin. And I have to say while it takes a bit longer, it wasn't particularly difficult, and did allow for me to adjust tension more precisely by the end.

If you are not someone who often cleans/paints dolls then feet first will be fine. If you do, then I'd recommend getting some s hooks for the first restringing.

 

Has anyone put a Dollshe Venitu head on a Dollstown 18 boy body?

 

Someone hybrided a Goohwa (also made by 5th Motif) on Dollstown 17year boy in this reference post. Seems like the main hurdle is the difference in neck size between head and body. (That person who made the post was hybriding a 5th Motif head onto a 18year boy, maybe they have photos in the thread.)
If you search the earlier 5th Motif discussion threads for "Dollstown", there may be more info about hybrids.

I added new knee and hooks at the feet (for eventually, later heeled feet) for my 16 and 17 years female bodies. It works great !
And i received my Byula. She's super pretty. Now i have to wait for cooler days for doing her a faceup. Summers are too hot in my city.

 

@citronrouge Oh you got your Byula! I can't wait to see her finished! I'm happy that the new knees are working well too.

Thanks, but I'm afraid I'm out of luck, I saw from a product Q&A that the new knees are the default only for bodies labelled as "ver. 2025", and 17yr Vision (which is the one I'm going to order) doesn't.
It's strange, because the header of their website says "All dolls will be casted after ordering".

I'll try to write them an e-mail inquiring about that.

@lytits Ah! The Vision body has different knee joints and AFAIK it did not have stability issues to begin with, which is why it did not get an update.
