Dollstown 17 and 18 year boys and girls - Part 2

Apr 4, 2018

    1. okay, i finally bit the bullet and bought an 18boy body for my icon guy in the sale! It said that it was in stock, so hopefully that's the case and it'll also ship in just a couple weeks.... he's been without a body for a year, so that would be nice.

I was, and still am a bit leery of how massive the 18 boy body is, but the Leeke head is just giant. The big cranium and long face put the proportions into the 'Simply Divine, LLT, Dollstown' category. I considered the 17 body for a long time since the character is not supposed to be taller than the character that's my DT18 girl, but even that body seemed like it would have too narrow shoulders. So it was basically the 18 or nothing, imo. And nothing was not an option, as this beautiful head has been hanging around since 2010, mostly without a body T___T

Now to research how to clothe this guy.... i'll read the thread, but does anyone have some quick tips?

    2. Congrats, Lirin. I have recently acquired a Stines Thomas head, it's incredibly HEAVY... haven't had a DT Boy body before but presume I should go for the 18 rather than the 17, anyone got any advice? It will be a while before I can order. :)

    3. Yes, congratulations, @Liren.

@vonbonbon - The DT 18 boy body might be the best choice, as Thomas is a pretty large head. I know that the Simply Divine Harlequin head is in scale to that particular body, although I also successfully used a Switch 65cm body for my former Harlequin.

    4. So good to know earth.spirits, thanks for the info.... it might have to be a distant purchase but I can keep my eye on Dollstown for the next sale they do.... I'm not too worried about resin match as I will redo his face-up once I have the body and blush the head to match :)

    5. so I got the email today that the dollstown package has cleared customs in SF and will be here tomorrow or the next day.... and I still don't have any clear idea of what clothes to buy. to any of the SartoriaJ jean sizes work?

    6. My 17 girl body is here, and it is fabulous! I'm pleasantly surprised by how well she fits a lot of my sd16/free 1/3 size girl stuff too. Just gotta find her shoes that work...

    7. I have a DT18 boy - and yep, that body is massive and heavy but beautiful. By far my favorite boy body as far as the sculpting. Anywho - as far as clothing.... Iplehouse EID is on the big side and too short as far as pants. Surprisingly Freedom Teller 70cm fits - pants + tops; although he can't sit without the great unbuttoning of the pants. I have some pics of my boy (Nabarro hybrid) wearing Sadol in my Insta. SantoriaJ - will probably fit like Iplehouse or Freedom Teller EID unless they will adjust pants in length and take in the thighs.

    8. I love the 17yo girl body.
I'm working on my Rian now.

    9. @Xiaoli What a lovely dress! I agree, the body is wonderful.

For anyone interested, here's a quick side by side with the dollshe arsene body and the DT 17 girl. My girl is actually wearing all sd16 items here (gotta be careful with cut, obviously, but it works!).

    10. wow, I sorta didn't expect that the 17G body would look so petite next to the Arsene body. I guess just because the Arsene looks like the little brother next to the Mystic in the promo photos does not mean that it's actually delicate in size lol. I love how they look together though!

@Xiaoli your Rian is beautiful and that dress is stunning omg!!! (love the little bunny fellow too ;) )

My 18B body arrived yesterday and it turned out I had a couple of things that stretched enough to go on him, so he's not a little nudist lol. Definitely need to do some shopping and some sewing for him though. And he can't fit all the way into the giant LL size boots from Leeke that the 18G uses, so that's a thing. Predictable but disappointing. Have you guys found shoes for these boys or do they just habitually go about barefooted lol?

Hybrid wise, it's a great fit though, and the 2 18s look fantastic together imo.

    12. I've ordered an 18 yr old girl body for an Estella head that I have. I don't have anything nearly that large, and I am curious to see what I think about such a large doll. I initially never thought I would want anything over MSD size, but I recently purchased a larger doll, and would like to see how far I can stretch the size, and still like the doll. It would almost be a good thing if I prefer MSDs. They take up less space, cost less, etc. But I think I am going to like a larger doll.

    13. @Lirin That's a nice photo!

@ajgood I like SD's because the scale feels more...real to me. The closer they get to full size the more impact they have. But yes, storing etc is more problematic. I have mostly SD's and a handful of smaller dolls. I tend to play with the large dolls more.

    14. @dollhausen I am finding that I feel the same way about dolls on a stand-they just look like, well, dolls. I don't think of my dolls as characters or whatever, but I do like the look of them posing realistically and just hanging out. They never look quite right on a stand, at least not when I do it.

    15. @Lirin, yeah dollshe does not do small bodies lol. Arsene is huge, like truly massive, and 17g is a skinny lady. She's tall though, with her Amanda beauty head she'll be within a couple cm of his height.

I have a 28m boy incoming from dollshe, so I'll put the 17g next to that as well. It's second only to the huge iplehouse guy in terms of thicc boys. XD

    16. @Xiaoli - that gown is lovely!! both the color and the design!

I’d like to share my DT17 gal (hybrid with LLdT Edria head) in her new outfit.
She’s my “Demelza” with her “Ross” - inspired by the books and PBS series ‘Poldark’.
Ross just got his new outfit finished too.

    17. So many beautiful dolls. I think DT is about my favorite.

    18. Your Ross and Demelza are really great!

    19. Thanks Kirin. I love your dolls. Their faces are beautiful and together they make a perfect pair.

    20. I had a beautiful girl, Megan ... the doll was gone, but the photos still please me

    21. Yeah, I don't have a stand. My dolls lay around on various couches or on tables, etc. While I do have characters, I do think they look more realistic lounging around. I have this idea that someday I'm going to get them all standing at once and take a photo. So far, it's just a dream.

@Katushka_Nitok That is a pleasing photo. Love the outfit! That's great.

    22. Just a heads up that Dollstown are discontinuing a lot of their head sculpts.

    23. Wow! That's quite a lot of different sculpts across their different lines, 16 in all. Wonder why such a massive discontinuance?

Thanks for letting us know, @vonbonbon.

    24. Welp! Just sent Dollstown the first of three fairly hefty payments for my long-planned order. (Thanks to @wrenbe for explaining their Layaway system!) Fingers crossed I've understood it correctly... Basically sent them cash and an email with the basket copied into it, since I couldn't for the life of me get the site to cooperate with registering an order without having to actually pay in full.

All going well I should have a Byula on the 17yo body and one of the gorgeous 18yo female bodies for a floating head (Dollshe Bernard) turning up at some point!

      • x 1
    25. YAY!! Lol I remember when I tried to order the first time, the basket kept going to paypal with the full amount. So I did basically what I told you/you did. I copied the order into an email to them with the statement that I wanted a layaway. then to reserve my spot I paypaled them the first payment. They emailed me back confirming it, then I just paypaled them monthly until I was paid up. Easy peasy. Congrats on the order!

    26. @wrenbe - Thanks! I got the order confirmation overnight, so now its just the extra long Layaway induced wait to get through...

Eesh, this order has been long enough in the coming as it is. Somehow my floating Dollshe Bernard just kept getting pushed further and further down the priority list even though I knew exactly what my plan was going in; turning the sculpt into a tall willowy slip of a girl by plonking the sculpt onto the gorgeous DT18 body. (This now means my floating head count is now down to 'only' three... The damage done by those initial Dollshe 'discontinuation' sales is nearly contained.)

    27. I’d like to share the new gown I finished last week for the Dollstown 17 body.
I just love this wonderful sculpt!! My doll has an LLT Edria head in NS in this photo.

The fabric is fine imported Swiss batiste in a pale blush color. It’s so sheer that
you can even see her leg thru thru skirt! (She needs a petticoat.) I really do
love the Regency style gowns - they look so well on most of the doll bodies!

    29. Well, time to give the thread a good poke. Anyone receive the 17yr Vision body yet?

I just received a (secondhand) 18yr girl body and wow, she's massive and amazing and I don't actually have a doll stand that can hold her yet. I've opted to hot glue suede her instead of using traditional suede since she seems pretty unstable in the hips. And since she was a surprise purchase she, uh, doesn't actually have any clothes. D:

    30. Hi @whitebread, congrats on the new 18 body... I've had 3 in all and loved them, but finding stands is difficult because of the weight, I wound up using a fairly standard one but stealing the big heavy circular base from a different stand and it seemed to work a lot better. Also, wire those legs and save yourself a lot of swearing ;)

      • x 1
    31. I have the 17yo vision ordered but have not received her yet.

    32. That was a really good comparison set! I definitely have a preference for the Dollstown 17yr girl body now - definitely more elegant.

    33. Thank you for reminding me about wiring! I was about ready to resign her to a chair for the rest of her days. :doh

    34. @whitebread, hee hee, I know, it seems hopeless but some good sturdy wire and she/he will stand like a champ :)

    35. @miffimifster Glad to help! I love both bodies honestly. DT remain the only double jointed bodies that don't drive me insane, so they're always my go to for modeling and hybrids.

    36. I'm a bit worried that now they have a new 17 year old girl body they will be discontinuing the old one soon.

I might need a 17yo body for a hybrid, but I like the extra hip joint in the old body, and the Vision one will be around for a while if I change my mind later.

Does anyone have an opinion on this fear based on past experiences with Dollstown (like when they updated their Elf body in 2013)?

    37. I'd love some insight into that question as well since I prefer the old 17 year body as well. I'm kind of hoping since they gave it a different title of "vision body" that they might keep both types?

I also have a different probably oddball question for you all, but I'm curious if anyone has tried putting a Zaoll head on the 17 year girl body?

    38. Maybe we'll get an answer @Tsukiyono! I guess I should start saving just in case, but I really wanted to order the Elf body next, not the 17 one.

I have seen hybrids of a Zaoll head (Luv head) with several 60cm bodies (Supia original single-jointed, etc.) and they looked pretty nice, but the DT17 body is listed as 64.5-65cm (with head), so a Zaoll head might be too small for it. Of course, the typical DT head is pretty big, so the body without a head may not actually be that far from 62-63cm. Maybe someone who owns it could measure it for you?

(If you want to see these hybrids, search "Zaoll hybrid" on Flickr! I found quite a few photos there).

Zaoll sculpts are beautiful. I have a soft spot for the Luv sculpt....it's one of the first heads I was able to recognize when I first got into bjds.

    39. I don't see why they would discontinue the original 17 year body as it's relatively recent too.... seems odd as they would have presumably have planned both at a similar time. The Vision body will appeal to people who put their dolls in fashion clothing so I guess they are just trying to see if they can attract a new market? I doubt they would abandon their existing customers in the process.

I've never owned a Zaoll but know they are smaller than a regular BJD so assume it would be an odd look. For me, Souldoll heads never look too great on DT bodies, because they are just so much smaller and DT necks are designer for the larger than average DT heads.... be interesting to see though :)

    40. @vonbonbon - thank you for your opinion on the "are they going to discontinue the old 17 body" question! I hope that you are right.

    41. Thanks for the input everyone! I've been wanting to "upgrade" my Zaoll Luv's body to something taller, but as I figured the 17 year body might be too much of a stretch. Either way I told myself I needed to repaint her face before I go out and buy a new body. XD

      • x 1
    42. I don’t have the 17, but I can confirm mine does not fit the 18. It does, however fit a 60 Cm doll chateau body (y-06) though that one is quite stylized.

      • x 2
    43. Woot! Thanks for the input, good to know! Looks like the 17 year body is totally out then, but eh, maybe I can come up with another doll plan for that body, haha.

    44. DT is having another sale if anyone missed that announcement.

And has anyone tried jointed hands on their big girls? I'd like to try a pair on my 18yr hybrid, but there's quite a few companies to sort through.

      • x 1
    45. I saw the sale too, but to many already waiting on from DT so better skip this one.

    46. The sale is great! I wish bodies alone were also on sale, but that's okay - I'll keep saving for them.

In regard to jointed hands, I have my eye on some Doll Legend hands (sold on Alice's Collections). Someone on Instagram had Doll Legend male 1/3 hands on her Twigling doll. They looked very nice and might work for the DT 18 body since it is so tall.

Doll Legend also have beautiful female jointed hands that are 6.3cm long. The Dollstown website says the 18 year old hands are 6.2cm long, but I'm not sure how they are measuring them, because the website also records the Elf hands as 5cm, but I have seen them measured in photos, and from the end of the wrist ball to the fingertips looks like a clear 6cm to me.

    47. Does anyone have a handy image of any of the newer style Dollshe big dudes (like 26m guys) on the 18m?

    48. Do the DS18 boys wear 70cm clothing from Alice Collections?

    49. If you look at the measurements for the body you will see while they are tall they are very beefy. You have to look at EID and SID sized clothing. 70cm items tend to be for the hounds, the thin and tall fellows like from Dollshe and Dollzone. Get measurements for the 18 year boy body and then compare to Iplehouse EID and SID boys. I think it will help you find items on Etsy and companies that carry the right sizes.

    50. After admiring the Dollstown sculpts for so long, I've finally decided on the 18yr boy body. Time to start saving up for it! :evilplot:

    51. Is the DT 18 girl body from 2016 still a nightmare at standing?
I thought the sculptor had corrected this problem.

    52. I never had issues with the 18 year girl body, just the boy. But his issues were corrected. I know she did something to the girl, but I believe it was the chest section of torso. Don't recall what and I am not talking about the vision body, that she gave bigger boobs, and also designed high heeled feet. Hoping the design high heeled feet for the other girls soon.

    53. The 18 year old body got new knees to fix the collapse-o-matic knee issues the earlier version of the body had

      • x 1
    54. @animemom , @Girrl , oh good! I am keeping an eye on both DT18 bodies, boy and girl, till I know I have the space for them (especially the girl Ryan :) ). Thank you :3nodding:.

      • x 1
    55. I agree, thanks @Lilla I couldn't recall what fix was. I prefer the boys, but one day will get a 17 year girl again.

    56. The current high heeled feet will swap with the regular 17 yo feet.
You can buy the feet separately

    57. Anyone have the Vision body yet? And if so, what clothing can it wear? I have been debating on getting one.
And to revive interest in the thread a bit, a pic of my new Halley, who finally arrived.

    58. I just received my standard 17 year girl body. But I did order the high heel feet. Just have to wait for that shipment with those and other parts. I didn't want to try the vision body as I like my girls small chested for clothes. None of my girls are into dresses really.

    59. I'm still waiting for my DT17 Vision body, but I have seen someone in Instagram has already posted pictures: Mirror on Instagram: “Dollstown 17 vision mini review. First off, gorgeous body. But it's what I expected from dollstown. ➡️Knees are a MASSIVE improvement over…”
In the description it says she put an SID dress on the body, but the waist is too bulgy.
Really curious what the body is like, I already asked them when my order will be ready... It's taking unusually long for Dollstown...
