Y’all, DT having a Halloween Day 10% discount coupon AND it says can be applied with other discounts begins 10/28 to 01/27/2025. I may just put a copper Byula on layaway - I deserve her
@krystina Amazing!!!!! But how do I get it? On my page it shows no coupons available? Okay I am new to the site you can have it issued at the bottom of any product page.
Yeah I was confused as well DT posted on their IG and it only says “Download and get 10% off” and I was like what I need to download?
@citronrouge So delighted to see your two girls - I love how they're similar but also contrasts! May I ask you about the 16year girl body? Besides the clear changes in the torso, has the knee and elbow engineering changed too? I'm wondering whether and how Jonghak has addressed the knee challenges that people are reporting in the large double-jointed dolls. Thank you!
Tanjaladie, Aihre, thank you for your sweet words Honestly i see no difference about knee and elbow on the 16 with the 17 years body
Thanks citronrouge. Seems like the knees continue to be a weak point in the sculpting? My two oldest dolls (← in my profile pic) are on the single-jointed 15yr girl and boy bodies - I bought them both in 2010-2011! I've been idly looking at the 16yr girl and upcoming 16yr boy, deciding if I want to update my pair to double-jointed bodies. But I'm not hugely enamoured by the torso sculpting, and it seems that Dollstown bodies will continue to need wiring and sueding for their knees/elbows to function well and support weight. (And the new DT resin will not match old DT resin anymore.) So I might give them a miss and look elsewhere, at this rate my pair is going to stay single-jointed forever. Not a big deal, honestly - wiring has made them quite decent posers. Probably best not to disturb them in their BJD middle age Edit - more on-topic for the (kind of dead) 15year thread, but here's a pic of the pair - Crobidoll Lance on 15yr girl, Dollstown Mui on 15yr boy. They're with my small-headed 68cm guy.
Unfortunately. I've always known DT with weak knees, however I've been buying dolls from them for 15 years, I've never needed to wiring and sueding them. They always posed very well. I have to admit i don't really understand people's complaints. What's about elbow ? I only tried 7, 13, 16 and 17 girl bodies. The skin tones remain the same ones as Dollshe. No changes
@citronrouge Too bad you're so far away from me - I would have have you handle my DT18 boy body. You would have immediately understand why people complain. Do not understand me wrong, I love DT bodies! But yeah their knees tend to drive me nuts.
I totally trust you. I never have the opportunity to handle a 18 years. I barely take pics of my dolls standing, i have to admit. Maybe this is why i have not too much difficulties with mine But what is the problem with the elbow ? I didn't read the whole topic but i never heard something about it.
I think I misunderstood some things - there probably isn't any issue with the elbows. I was only mentioning knee/elbow together in the same sentence, because to my eye, the knee and elbow peanuts for the double joint are constructed the same way. But since arms are not weight-bearing like legs are, they probably won't have the same posing problems. Maybe their construction is an advantage instead? I'm doing a lot of conjecturing because I don't own 17/18yr bodies, so I'm looking at Jonghak's photos to try and evaluate how the dolls are engineered, and what might be giving them weak knees. I pose my dolls in majority standing poses and I seldom use doll stands for support, so their ability to stand on their own feet (both bare feet and in shoes) is paramount. If the body can't manage to free-stand after sueding/wiring and in shoes, I will not have a good time so I'm very likely to sell it and buy a body that can stand. (I've already done this for a non-DT body that simply wouldn't stand after all my efforts.) So after reading about the Dollstown knees I've been rather reluctant to spend money on these bodies, even though they're so beautiful. However, I am grateful that you shared your perspective. I'm glad that you're not having difficulties with your dolls! because sometimes all one hears is the problems, so I'm glad to hear the opposite. . As for colour matching, I think Dollshe/Dollstown change their resin colours in 2017, so the current fresh and oriental skin don't match the older fresh and oriental skin. Earlier this year I bought some 17yr girl hands and feet for my 15yr girl (who was made around 2008-2010), both are fresh skin but they don't match. Current fresh is pinker, old fresh is yellower. I'll try to share photos later, but this is unfortunately another reason I don't want to get new bodies for my old 15yr dolls.
Seconding this. Honestly the worst knees I've ever had on a doll. It's the way they're sculpted that makes them so unstable - just an impractical design, especially for the weight and height of the larger boys.
Ren my Modern Grey Lily on the 17 yr girl body is done. She's been to two meet ups to show off her wonderful wardrobe and looks. Chitown Meet up Oct-12-2024 by Marie, on Flickr I will share more photos in future posts.
dolls-053 by Marie, on Flickr Found this kimono at the previous meet up and it fits her so it's all hers.
Thank you for your returns. I totally understand your position and feeling and thank you too about color changes infos. I can't remember the old freshskin but now you mention it, yep i think it was a bit more on yellow side.
@aihre DT just posted this on Instagram. He's updating the knee joint on all the taller bodies to a new system. I had placed my order for Yujin anyway but I did have concerns on standing and it's such a relief to hear this!
@lutke Oh, that's promising! I'll be following that. Glad to see how Jonghak is refining the sculpts.
I should have my Yujin in early January (I'm dying to have her home ) and I'll post a review once she arrives. I was a bit frustrated when I searched for info on the 18 girl body, because most of the feedback is very old and doesn't even cover the 2016 knee update, so a fresh review would probably be useful. After I placed the order, An Jonghak told me that he's been using a better casting method since he went independent, and new dolls should be more accurate to the master due to reduced shrinking. Between that and the new lock on the knee I'm confident that there will be no issues with standing. She's also going to be sanded (I'm so glad he made the option available) and fully painted. I've got high hopes for this doll
I am thinking you will love that hefty girl!! The weight and solidity of my Seola-13 on that body always feel in a sense, reassuring and opulent to me. Such a huge hunk of resin she is! I'm only 5'1 and a shrimp, which also may have impact there, but, still
Y’all see these discounts comin left and right I’m hoping to put the 16year girl body in copper oriental skin and either Shinbi or Byula on layaway Any Shinbi or Byula havers that can share photos of their girl/boy to help me decide
I had a Yeondu on the 13yr body about fifteen years ago. I sold her and I've always regretted it. Apparently her sculpt will return again someday, for which I'm glad! But in the meantime, in taking advantage of this New Year's sale, I've just placed an order for a Teo on the 17yr II T2 body in Fresh skin. I like the gangly broad shoulders and the swimmer's build on that body. Looking forward to applying myself to making him his own clothes. He's going to be in the works for a long time, but I've got a well-defined vision for him. I'm so excited to get to have another Dollstown doll, and a boy, at that! (edit to clarify that it's the T2 body!)
@hollyholly ooo Yeondu I used to daydream about having her, Bandi and Triste when I first started this hobby. I see they brought back Triste recently so we probably don’t have to wait much longer for her return and congrats on placing your order for Teo Dollstown boys are stunning
@citronrouge How did the 16 girl body work out for you so far? The posing seems very nice and the torso joints are in the right places. I thought it would look substantially skinnier than the 17 (like the Vision) but it doesn't seem too far off.
I was wondering if anyone has downloaded the 15% voucher? I have tried to find but been unable to: "It is possible to download 15% off coupon in the page of all product". And also wondering if the updated 18 yo boy knees would fit the original release (bought in 2012), has anyone updated theirs?
@kyukyukyu you could send a mail to DT but since he sells separate knee parts I suppose they will. You can find the coupon on any product page, just scroll a bit down.
You apply the coupon when you're going through checkout once you've placed your order! You've already "picked it up," so to speak, since you clicked the button, so it'll be available as a choice when you come upon the discount coupon option in the checkout process.
To be honest i didn't touch her a lot, i didn't have many time to play with her. Her handling is less intuitive because it is a new body but no complaints to make about it for the moment. I'll let you know in few weeks when i'll take more pics with her. Here is a new pic of my Elysia 17 and Hyun 16 together. Perfect sisters and perfect sirens
@citronrouge Lovely! Please do write about the body, as you said it's a new one so it's difficult to find much about it. For the time being the plan is to get another doll (Rian or Soi, I'll be sure when I actually commit) on the 17 around the end of the year - the current sales are very tempting, but I want to focus on my current dolls and I'm sure there will be another chance - but after then, I'm considering the 16 for a hybrid.
I found a stand that can handle her easily: the Ringdoll stand for their 75 cm boys. (I thinnk that is RD 5). It is a saddle stand - very secure. You probably know by know that you can order the new replacement knees - they are about $25.00 - and you can ask for the same resin color. They are definitely more stable. Jonghak An did a demo on OG.
Thank you! I totally ordered them. So excited to be less frustrated with this boy xD Can you link the demo? EDIT wait I see it!! Wow omg I'm SO excited! Such a small thing made all the difference
I have a beautiful older Byula head - I have it on a 68 cm Impl muscle body - but still. Only I have no URL site to upload photos to here. Jonghak An on Instagram: "Compare Standing pose condition of 18yr boy old version and new 2025 version knee parts first old version, second new version from 26". The old version looks okay up to 40 degrees, but it is unstable because of body’s heavy weight. New version is much more stable. There is a big difference. The new version knee parts need truly for 18 yr boy body. #돌스타운 #dollstown #구체관절인형 #球体関節人形 #球形关节娃娃 #球形關節娃娃 #шарнирная кукла #muñeca articulada #poupée articulée #Puppe mit Kugelgelenk #bjd #doll #bjddolls #balljointeddoll #dollart #bjdartist #dollmaker #knee" I would ask him. He is superresponsive and super-nice. Honestly - he is one of the nicest and most responsible and efficient of the dollmakers. Although I have also really liked the Impl people, I am sure they are not a one man operation. But I have never had to wait for a DT purchase more than a couple months since Jonghak An has been on his own.
I ordered 18 boy knees too. They won't color match (body is really old and yellowed) but as he will always wear clothes, I don't care.
@Follow-the-Wind seems like the 18 boy was by far the body that needed them the most. My Yujin ended up delayed a little bit, but she should ship next week
My Teo and 17yr T2 body arrived today! It only took one month, to the day. He's beautiful. Huge!! Hefty to hold and plainly handcrafted. That's always been my favorite thing about Dollstown dolls - how hand-wrought they look and feel. He's a stunner. The weather is perfect to put some sealant on him so I can get started working on him right away.
Oh my goodness that's my girl on DT's Instagram she's on her way, please please please be here next week!
Wwwwooooooooowwwwwww @lutke , she is gorgeousssss!!!!!!!! Wow! I am speechless, she's done up so beautifully, and LOOK at her standing like a champ! Those new knees must be so good! You will love her. Keep us posted when she arrives!!
@tanjalalie absolutely. I'm waiting on alpaca wigs for her and my Souldoll, so with a bit of luck she'll have everything right away. I'm still not sure how I'll dress her; I've had ideas I wasn't too sure about and Leona took the fantasy theme. I think I'll have to see her first.
I hear you on having to meet her first-- 9 out of ten times that's how it happens for me as well Once you have her in hand-- or rather likely BOTH hands, she's so huge, ha! - it'll manifest itself for you I have no doubt. Her delicate blushing and those very realistic, tee-tiny freckles make her skin come alive so much! Were she mine I am thinking I'd leave those visible as much as possible. They are gorgeously done! I cannot wait to see a million photos of her
Nadia is here. She's just something else, I don't even know what to say honestly Sorry for the phone pic, I'll take better ones later this day but she's beyond gorgeous. Stands easily even with a leg bent. My goodness, the resin feels incredible. Incredible doll. Spoiler Photo with a temporary wig until her alpaca one arrives. Gosh she's so gorgeous I can't even. EDIT: Another picture I took later yesterday, ahhh she's so lovely I can't believe it Sorry again for no light and crummy photos, with a phone I can't do justice to how nice she is. A few notes: she came with two COAs: one for the head, one for the body. I'm not going to sell anyone ever, but that's nice. The packaging was the most secure I've seen so far, no fancy box but really bomb-proof. The head was detached and packed on its own. Stringing is a bit on the loose side, but nothing like floppy, I think I could tighten a little but not too much. I don't think she'll need sueding. Wrist and neck are amazing. I am impressed with the head range, it's so good compared to all the other dolls I have (not that they're bad or anything) and I realized that's such a huge limitation. Still not a fan of underbust joints but this is definitely not a dynamic body that you want to pose doing somersaults. She's meant to look elegant and natural and the bust joint works really well to add some nuance.
@lutke o goodness she is gorgeous Congrats on bringing your girl home, she is beyond beautiful I love the dramatic lighting of that last pic.
@Arengil there's a lip on the back of the joint so the leg locks in place when extended, to prevent buckling. The rest is the same.
@lutke Thank you. Do you have both of these knee types? Is a buckling a big problem? Does that mean DT17 boy body isn't stable standing up?
No @Arengil I only have the new ones on the 18 girl, and I can confirm they work really well as intended. The larger bodies (17-18) were known to have standing/knee buckling issues, but I think those are solved now. The lock is not difficult to disengage either so I don't see it being a problem with pants etc. An Jonghak posted videos of the difference between old and new knees on the various bodies on Instagram, you can see the 17 boy body comparison here.
@Arengil you can see what was added to the old knees in this picture in white clay. It's just a little locking ledge, pretty much, but it works.
She's soooo beautiful and I am so glad you like her joints!! Show her off whenever you are able! I love the wig and eyes you gave her! What a great face she has!!
Spoiler for some nudity in the 3rd pic. I love this doll so much, she's so effortlessly beautiful. I wish I could do her justice. Spoiler
The arms and those shoulder blades!!!!! Jong Hak is a sculptor like no other. I love her profile too, that slight overbite and the generous nose. Beautiful.
