Dollshe Waiting Room 12

Mar 12, 2020

    1. Sometimes better layaway options; you have someone to follow up on our order for you so you don't have to reach out to the company yourself

      I'm sure there are others...

    2. Longer layaway options, as @MmeDoc already mentioned. Ordering directly from the company, they don't start production until the order is paid in full. Ordering through a dealer, the dealer pays in full, so production begins right away (supposedly), but you can pay off the dealer a bit slower. It cuts down on the wait time. Also, if you're in the US and ordering a doll from a Korean company, the shipping is usually quite a lot. Ordering from a dealer like BJDivas, which is in the US, cuts down on the shipping cost. If you order directly from the company, you'll see that they give you "points" with each order, which gives you a discount. I think the dealer benefits by accumulating all the "points" from everyone's orders, which means it's actually cheaper for them, not to mention any discounts they might get purely for the volume of the orders. Everyone wins.

    3. This isn't really a tangible benefit in the sense that it isn't saved money per se, but one of the really nice things I like about ordering from BJDivas is that they give you the ugly truth about Dollshe's wait times. I've been subject to this, and based on what others have been saying in the Waiting Rooms, it seems a common thing, that Dollshe tells you that your order will ship in a certain amount of time that's much shorter than the actual amount of time. BJDivas told me straight up that it'll probably be over a year, a lot of people have waited over 2, it's understandable if you want to change your mind about ordering because the wait time is so long, etc. I don't know why Dollshe does it, I try to give them the benefit of the doubt. It can be hard and scary when I have to tell something that I know that they don't want to hear, and even harder if I feel like they're going to yell at me. Maybe that's why they do it? :?

I don't know if dealers are eligible for the points system that we are. A friend of mine is a reseller for stuffed animals, and some of the companies they represent offer loyalty programs similar to Dollshe, but they don't get any points accumulation since the company pays them separately.

    4. Thank you MmeDoc , ElizabethStiles and sno4wy, better layaway and shipment are certainly good reasons, it makes sense. I don't think we have an agent in UK and delivery from Korea via EMS works well and at reasonable price. Communications wise I was extremely impressed with Dollshe's customer support when I was placing my order, already told the story here earlier on, but the waiting time is indeed depressing.

By the way, not sure it helps anyone but I did change skin tone of Grant Phillippe I ordered only a few weeks ago from Honey to Pure skin and Dollshe confirmed that choice of honey skin does cause delays as it is less popular choice. Maybe it will take a few months off of the waiting time? I am not asking for the whole year...

    5. @sno4wy, I guess I don't know how they make their money, then. :huh?:

I also ordered mine in Pure skin. The Honey skin supposedly resists yellowing better, and it certainly looks nicer when it's blank. But so far, every faceup I've seen on the Honey skin looks waxy. I think the point is to look more realistic, because real skin has translucence to it. But real skin's color comes from under the surface; it isn't painted on top of it, unless you're wearing makeup. So take a translucent skin and put all its color on the surface... it just looks wrong, in my opinion at least. Maybe someone here has seen better faceups on the Honey skin.

ADDITION: The Honey also takes longer to cure, according to the Dollshe website.

    6. tbh i've always felt that the honey skin looks a bit cheap, but I hadn't though about it, it makes complete sense, they do look waxy and I feel like they look like some counterfeit dolls, our skin is translucent but we have veins, muscles, blood, and the resin is just one color... sorry if it sounds mean!! i do love the skin tone , if i had the money i would've ordered mine in that skin tone :XD:

    7. Yeah, exactly! Their look compared to normal resin BJDs is like those cheap knock-off dollar store Barbies compared to real Barbies, where the plastic was waxy-looking and way thinner, with the hollow limbs that collapsed if you put weight on them.

    8. YESSS! I thought of the Basaak blythe counterfeits but pretty much the same plastic :XD:

    9. Thank you! It's been "processing" for 14 months, I was wondering if/when it would ever change to something else! :sweat

I honestly really like the look of the honey skin, maybe not for the smaller sizes, but it's french/environmental resin and I have a few SD dolls in that type of resin and I love them. Real skin does have that slightly translucent quality, hence how you can see veins and such. Plus it resists yellowing and just looks neat. :kitty2

    10. Totally unrelated to what's shipping or not shipping now - I'm bored.
Who has specific plans and/or names and/or characters for their eventually incoming dolls, and if so, what are they?
      Mine are as follows:

      Fashion Size:
Amanda: Odette (Not sure yet if these will stick)
Erica: Odile (not sure yet if these will stick)
Diana: ? Human, ballerina (gotta make use of those feet).
Adonis: ? Definitely a vampire of some sort, not totally sure beyond that.
Ausley: Myrrh - a sort of exorcist and paranormal problem solver. Human.

      Classic Size:
Amanda: Mirian - A redheaded psychopomp brought over to our world by a rather mad scientist. It was an accident.
Diana: Mina - Short for Wilhelmina. An albino vampire and ballerina with a bit of a harem.
Arsene: Gabriel - A scarred musical genius with the voice of an angel.

    11. I have Classic Arsene and Classic Adonis in the new oriental coming some day (been more than 13 months so far.) Depending on the color match, I may adjust my older Arsene head to match and sell the new blank one. Anyway, my Arsene will be Oseung (Korean rapper) and I will use my Arsene's old body for a bunch of floating heads. Amazingly, almost all my floating heads work on the neck. As far Adonis, I have no definite plans except to see if I can make him look more Asian since all my dolls are Korean. Maybe I will color adjust more of the floating heads so he can share the body too.

    12. My Saint on the pure body will be my character Anaximander. He's going to get some extreme facial scarring and I need to locate some damaged hands for him (i refuse to hurt his brand new ones!) And hopefully I can find some tall tall boots for him and some heel feet I have laying around will fit.

My fashion Khan is going to be a companion to the Ausley I already have. He miiiiiight be a shell for another of my existing characters, but I need him in hand first. But definitely high fantasy themed.

      • x 3
    13. Both my girls are from the same world/story.

Amanda: Niniane, a magician/Oracle on the run from the major powers after she sort of inadvertently absconded with their Oracle.
Diana: Lokhra, Niniane's familiar/sapient magical book who is very new to this "being humanoid" thing.

    14. This is a bit long, so it should help with the boredom for a little while. My Classic Maxi Amanda is going to be sort of a triptych, since she comes with three heads. I even ordered two additional busts, primarily so I have all the sizes for making clothes commissions, but also so they can be separately blushed for each character. I'll do the same with each set of hands. Of course they'll otherwise have to share the same body. I only have space to display one doll anyway.

Sleeping head, small bust, relaxed hands: 12th Century Aurora, or Sleeping Beauty, pastel colors - The most passive in her story, and the most oblivious. Most of what happens to her has nothing to do with her own choices, and she doesn't even seem to know she's cursed. She's a bit like a child in that regard; neither knowledge nor control, so she has no responsibility.

Half-open eyes, medium bust, splayed hands: 16th Century Snow White, dark, somber colors - Moderately active in her story, although most of what she does is simply reactionary, in response to the immediate threats or opportunities presented by others. She's described as kind, but she doesn't really do anything in the story that indicates either good or evil. I feel like that's a bit like adolescence. She's attempting to navigate a world she doesn't really understand yet, and only seems to be aware of circumstances right at the moment they're occurring; she doesn't seem to be able to see ahead, hence the half-open eyes. (Side note, all that is the traditional story. My version of the story is that she's a vampire, and only her religious stepmother seems aware that something is wrong. So I'm going to need a spare head for the stepmother, so I can photograph Snow White holding her stepmother's head on a platter, in the style of various Cranach paintings of either Solome or Judith. The Cranachs just loved their ladies holding decapitated heads. Suggestions for the stepmother are welcome, and it doesn't have to be Dollshe.)

Fully-open eyes, large bust, "makeup hands": Baroque Beauty or Belle, vibrant colors - Easily the most active in her story. It's her desire for a simple rose, when her sisters wanted finery, that lead to her father's confrontation with the Beast. She showed awareness of the needs of others in not making grand demands of her father. When he returned, she displayed self-awareness of her responsibility for the situation, whether it was intentional or not. She made the calculated, self-sacrificing decision to accept that responsibility, and go in her father's place. Once there, she allows herself to see the Beast as more than just a monster. She could have easily chosen to just resent him, and prejudice herself to be blind to any display or kindness or emotion. But again, she shows awareness and compassion for others, and loves him despite his flaws. This transforms him from a monster, to a man. Thus, she created her own happy ending. This maturation of character is the ideal of adulthood. Therefore, Beauty has the most mature figure and the most aware face, with fully open eyes. She will, of course, be holding the rose, representing the first choice she made. (Side note, I would really like King Corey as the Prince form of the Beast, but I want the Beast form to be a werewolf. I don't know of any werewolf dolls, though.)

    15. My Fashion Maxi Rey Lewis is going to be made into a (mildly) dragon themed Fae prince! I haven't decided a name for him yet, I feel like I need to see him completed first, but I already have a good idea of how I want to style him.

      • x 3
    16. @ElizabethStiles love your ideas. Will the Cranach step-mother's head be beautiful or ugly?

      • x 2
    17. Aaaa I love all the ideas! Can't wait to see them all!
@ElizabethStiles I quite enjoyed reading your short essay on fairy tales ^__^. Do you have any specific look idea for the stepmother? I know there have been some werewolf dolls in the past, but I'm not sure who made them or whatnot. . .

    18. @Mahgiep and @TatterPunk Thank you! Probably just a tidy, middle-aged woman, like she's aging gracefully. She's a queen, so she would have been well-cared for, and married the king while Snow White was a child, so she wouldn't be very old. However, this isn't set in stone, as Snow White might have imprisoned her before she was executed, so she might look a little haggard at the end.

Also, I meant to mention, I want to get Erica Snow and make her Princess Tiabeanie. No significant story there. It's just for fun.

    19. Rania from Iplehouse would be a perfect queen -wants to be fairest of them all -stepmother in my mind, but it'd be hard to get just a head. I was looking and the werewolf I remembered was a limited Ringdoll (it's always the limited ones - sigh) from some time ago. How far into wolf are you looking for? Like full Crinos (Giant scary wolf-man) or more Glabro (kinda wolfish humanish)? Sorry to use Werewolf: The Apocalypse terms to try to explain that lol.

      • x 1
    20. IDK why I didn't think of Rania. I was just looking at her sculpt a couple of days ago. I had to look up your werewolf terms, but I guess Crinos? (Because it would be funny to put him in a fancy suit. :)) But if I could put a wolf head on King Corey's body, that would probably also be fine.

      • x 1
    21. Not sure how you are with sculpting, but you could certainly do (or have done) some mods to an extra head - adding stuff and the like to make a wolfish head and maybe to some extra hands. Iplehouse has EID size "fantasy hands" which are pretty much just clawed, also Doll Legend has jointed hands with claws. An outfit with some extra padding in the shoulders could add a more hunched appearance too if you end up using the same body.

    22. TatterPunk is right. It's doable. I made a wolf head of paper clay on top of the Doll Family A practice head a few years ago for Dollism Plus. Didn't go exactly as planned but it was a cool project to test out.

    23. I'm not sure about a name for my Diana yet, but I'm playing around with some character ideas. One of my girls is a character that owns a Coffee Shop by day and Tavern by night, so I'm thinking Diana could be a barista for the morning shifts.

    24. So frustrated. Got an update that Dollshe will "start" the order from Feb 2019 in July
Also said apparently also ship in July, but I have very very very little hope now

    25. I've gotten a reply from BJDivas saying Dollshe told them my order will be shipping in July, so I really hope my boy will be coming home soon! Though knowing Dollshe hasn't always answered questions like that truthfully, I'm not going to get my hopes up too much.

    26. Just out of curiosity, anyone know how long EMS packages have been taking lately?

I emailed BJDivas at the end of may to ask about my Fashion Khan. Dollshe told them they would ship the following Monday (not so sure I believe that statement from Dollshe), which was June 1. Two years...I am itching for my Khan!

    28. I've had everything ready for him a long time already. I wasn't gonna shell him but when I got the chance to get his best friend I had to get him as well. Why have just one side charachter when you can get them all.

So he's a Bernard on the Mystic pose plus body. His name is Eddie but he prefers his middle name, Maddox. Only his mom, his best friend's little sister (who's madly in love with him), his best friend's other sister (who's actually not related to him at all) and his best friend's little brother calls him Eddie. To all the others he's Maddox. He's the son of a famous dancer and he's predicted to be the next big name. He's 100% gay but no one knows about it.

Because he's a side charachter I haven't written much details and storylines for him yet. I have to get him involved more now after he's gonna be a doll too.

    29. I am waiting for Ausley Love 26f since April 2019. She is the first doll I bought in pre-order I think and I have to check the BJD web site or Instagram from time to time to see what she actually looks like. I have clothes, wigs etc. but I just try to let her rest in the back of my mind too because I am not sure if I will love what attracted me to her in the first place.

      • x 1
    30. I had a few separate packages from SartoriaJ that were delivered to me in UK in 25 days from the day I placed an order. One back in April, the other one in May.

      • x 1
    31. Hoo boy! Yeah, it will be a while then. To the US, it normally took one to one and a half weeks before the pandemic. Thank you for your answer!!

    32. Tureluur did you order your Ausley Love on layaway or pay the whole lot upfront as I ordered her in April 2019 and mine was shipped end of June and arrived early July 2019. I did pay the whole amount in one go direct from Dollshe.

    33. Lucky you! Are you happy with her? I ordered her through Ball Jointed Divas, on layaway.

    34. I'm only 6 months in the waiting, but I feel like it's forever. Halfway through my layaway, Looking at the list of people still waiting for their dolls make me wonder if I should have asked for a longer layaway time for my David Kuncci...

    35. I'm also halfway through my 12-month layaway. I think if you go through BJDivas, 12 months is the longest layaway available.

    36. Yeah, I ordered through BJDivas. I though I was prepared for the wait times, but...

    37. Yes! I got a shipping notice today! :kitty2Finally!! Only 14 months.... Now to hopefully get progress on the second order they promised they'd start as soon as I picked a new skintone... Not that I've seen my refund for the skintone yet.

I hope EMS to Canada isn't still affected by Covid-19 and super slow. Our own postal system is still moving at a crawl. :pout:

      • x 6
    38. I recently got an EMS parcel from korea.
It spent like 2 weeks in limbo in korea, but once it made it to canada it tooks 2-3 days to get to my door!
It was a small, inexpensive, parcel (just a head) and skipped right through customs. Maybe a full doll would actually need to be processed.
But it’s looking hopeful. A seller from thailand recently told me shipping to north america was currently stopped entirely so they were gonna hold on to my item for a bit. At least korea-canada works.

      • x 1
    39. I've read that they offer longer layaways for bigger orders, the longest I've seen that someone commented was 24 months. :ablink: No idea how big their order was though, they just said "big order".

      • x 1
    40. 24 months is probably best for a Dollshe order. :wiggle

      • x 4
    41. Thanks! I figured the wait would be a bit longer than usual but that gives me a timeframe to not panic about. Usually EMS is ~3 days to me.
I was worried about shipping being stopped or halted so it's probably for the best he took this long. :sweat

    42. Happy to tell you that I've recieved both Amanda and Saint recently. Right after I finished my 12 months layaway with BJDivas. I've started it in April 2019 and recieved the dolls in June 2020. I couldn't be more happier with a result ^^

I've already done some slight modding to her mouth to widen the corners so that you can see more teeth! I can't wait to start painting her already :D and I'm so obsessed with her hands...

    54. Hi!
Has anyone got Adonis? I made an order with Adonis Fashion in February. And in the last letter in April, they told me to wait another 3 months, because not all the details are ready. I don’t know whether it is worth asking how the work is progressing with the company.

    55. Oh wow! That EN head is absolutely beautiful. Also waiting on an Amanda and a Grant hope I get mine soon :shudder

    56. @schmooples Thank you so much! Those hands... Really... I've always had a weakness for Dollshe hands! SIGH :blush And I'll definitely be sharing her once I get her somewhat presentable! Hehehe~

@Nerwign Thank you, my dear! She's in Pure Pale resin and she's pretty much a paper white colour in person :D

@PhotoArtitude Ahhh~ I know right! I find that the most daunting but also the most fun heehehehe! Thank you for the encouragement! I'll definitely share her once she's presentable! :love

@Yangire811 Isn't it! :frownyblush: I'm actually preferring this head over her open-eyed head at the moment! I hope they get to you soon!! When did you order?

    57. June last year but I'm just trying to forget about the long waiting times now and try and look at other people's dolls for encouragement. But yes! Love her EN head even more now :love Congratulations!

    58. I'm also waiting for a Fashion Adonis. I ordered in October. Not that this helps.
