Dollshe Discussion - Part Twelve

Apr 15, 2017

    1. No, it was shipped EMS, but once the package hits Canada, it gets handed over to first to Customs and then CANPost. Fortunately, Dollshe underdeclared it for like $112. if they'd marked the full value, I'd have been nailed hard.

    3. Wow Des looks great in that outfit @Quiet and Insane. It doesn't look too big on him either. He will melt into the shadows now.

    4. Oh, I see, it was over the $100 no customs fee limit then. And yes, I know how bad the fees can be on things marked full value. BTDT Glad to hear he was still underdeclared so you weren't hit for full value, and again, glad to hear you finally got him. :)

    5. The Customs limit for items sent through the mail is $20. Less than $20 declared cannot be charged fees.

For items to trigger the "gift" designation, the item must be sent by friends/family (companies are not eligible to use this designation) and the declared value must be $60 or less to exempt it from fees. Over $60 and you get fees. If the item is alcohol, tobacco, advertising material or the aforementioned items sent by a business, it gets hit with fees regardless of it being declared a "gift".

Additionally, if the item is marked as "gift" and still qualifies (say you're buying a doll 2nd hand from another owner and not direct from a business and they mark the package as gift), the amount you pay in fees is the value declared minus the $60 waived amount. i.e. $200 declared means you would pay fees on $140 of the declared value. All amounts are also in CAN$. You also can't combine the $20 limit and $60 limit. It's either or, not both. If you're in Ontario, the fees are 15% of the declared value.

Annnnd if you feel you've been charged fees in error... good luck getting them back *cue mission impossible music*. I was charged fees on dolls I already owned that I'd sent to a modder/face-up artist in the US. Because I refuse to send dolls out without insurance I had the package insured for $500 (there were 2 dolls in the box). I got nailed for $75 when they were sent back to me. I tried to get the fees back by providing proof that I'd owned the dolls before sending them for repair (and repairs were done so that wasn't a lie) and had a letter from the modder describing what was done. Customs said I needed to prove that warantee work couldn't be done in Canada to be exempted from the fees charged. What?! That's total BS but I couldn't reclaim the fees.

    6. I'm actually surprised by how well it fit him (pants included!) The gloves are far too long in the fingers, but the outfit as a whole will be tweaked here and there as it is. He's pretty happy too...although appropriate shoes are a priority now. :sweat

    7. I don't envy you that search! I'm glad my boy won't need any shoes :sweat

He does look fantastic in that outfit, though! Really cool style, and it suits him

    8. *_* Why aren't i getting alerts for this thread? I'd assume since I'm watching it i'd hear when people reply to it at the very least.

    9. I get that with threads at times, too. It's kinda annoying. Usually clicking on the thread and viewing it jogs the memory and it starts sending notices again.

    10. This is just my observation but it generally seems to happen when you've viewed your alert notices (hover over the little bell at the top right of the page), but miss actually checking/opening a thread you've been notified about. Until you check/read the thread you won't get any new notices on it.

    11. Huh. I didn't know that was how it worked.

    12. @Wolfie - It shouldn't be too hard really. I'm super glad the Pure body has normal sized feet. Thank you! It's such a cool outfit. I knew he'd love it the moment I saw it.

    13. I think the Pure does have fairly normal size feet as I was able to get a pair of boots onto Wu-Tyr that were a total don't even thing of it for Khale (Leeke muscle body). I had to push and shove it they barely made it on, but they did go on and zip up. Fei-Lau (DZ Edward) can also wear those boots and I think they ended up going on him slightly easier. I ended up taking them off Wu-Tyr though as he stands better without those boots on and instead gave him a pair of Chinese style shoes.

Finding shoes that fit my guys is a complete pain in my ass. I'm actually glad when I have a guy that can't wear shoes because of the lack of human feet as it solves the problem nicely.

    14. Not having human feet certainly helps.

    15. Yep. My newest guy, Mkhai (Impl Miguel) has human-ish feet but there's also horns/spurs sticking out of his feet at the sides and he's got some serious clawed toes going on so no shoes for him. I should probably learn how to make decent simple shoes for my guys but chronic laziness...

    16. I'll usually check my watched threads page at least once a day to make sure I haven't missed something.

    17. Hi,
If anyone's interested in what the Honey Sapphire Blue and Honey Espresso Ebony look like next to each other, here's a pic. I've had them in their boxes for a long, long time and I was finally able to get them out and start working on them:dance........ I know, I'm a bad Mom!:sigh

    19. What sculpt is the ebony one? He's very striking.

    20. He's a Twigling Eloy (preorder currently open, btw!). :3

    21. He would fit nicely into my collection of unusual dolls. However, I'll be purchasing a doll by the end of this month that I've been waiting to bring home for 5 or 6 years so as cool as your boy looks, this other purchase needs to happen (and will drain my dolly funds *sigh*).

    22. @MrsDiablo -- Wow! They are stunning! :aeyepop: It's great to be able to see owner pictures of the more uncommon colors. Question about the honey espresso ebony, is it as black as it looks? I've been contemplating getting a doll in that color but I can't figure out from the official photos if it's as black as I'd need it to be. I'd always thought based on Dollshe's photos that it was more of a really really dark brown, but it looks like from your photo that it's actually obsidian, is that the case?

    23. @MrsDiablo - Goodness, they're stunning! :D Those resin colours are amazing!

    24. I really am trying to not bother Dollshe but saw that some saints had been shipped. I posted on the community link (also emailed them before that and was told needed to think on answer)which is why I posted on the community link. They have skipped past my question - have done that to others too. I ordered in Honey Strawberry and thought perhaps that was taking longer. Well it is taking longer. ;) I also have heads that I am waiting for and would so appreciate an idea of when they will get to these items. And of course Diana - Lord knows when she will ship but probably 2018, I knew that when I ordered. Sigh - but I had hoped to have a new pure Honey strawberry body by now.
*But if I were located in S. Korea - I would not be sleeping well so understanding that...

    25. I couldn't stand it anymore and asked about my Diana and he told me they were "supposed to be made on September". I was hoping they'd be starting to ship by now, buuuuuuut....

    26. Whatever Dollshe tells you regards production/shipping time, double it and you'll be closer to reality of when those things will happen.

    27. Honey Expresso Ebony is an extremely dark brown almost black so it photographs brown if the camera compensates for surrounding colors but to my eye it looks black in person.

    28. Thanks everyone!

@sno4wy I think he looks black. I ordered him almost 2 1/2 years ago and at the time I ask Dollshe if the color was more towards black because that's what I wanted and they said yes. I've seen someone else's Expresso Ebony and her's looks more dark coffee.

@Iron_Dog He is a Twigling Eloy.

Here a comparsion photo from top to bottom

    29. What an interesting comparison. The other colors look almost purple compared to the Dollshe resin.

    30. I remember somebody in the mature tiny thread commenting on the Soom coffee black of her fairy that she was surprised to find it had more of a purple tone than an actual black shade. Soom did a boy fairy in the coffee black and seeing the purple shading of the resin, I'd definitely hit the buy button in a heart beat because I like the way it looks a lot.

That being said, the Dollshe ebony is really nice. Really nice. I so didn't need to know that. It makes some of the dolls even more attractive to me and that evil little money spending doll fairy starts whispering encouragement slyly into my ear. It's bad enough that I really love the tone of the honey titanium grey and pure dark grey. I do not need another resin colour to lust after from Dollshe.

I have a doll dyed blackest black and its only when he's in strong sunlight that you see it's actually got brown tones to the black, so not "pure" black but in most instances, you don't notice that. I've also got a black resin doll (Akhmel Nathan) and he is most definitely black without any other shades/tones apparent in his resin even in strong sunlight.

    31. I have their mature tiny girl, and she is beautiful, but she is really a deep purple and it really a true black.

    32. Ohmygod ohmygod!!! Look who I finally got today from post office!! I've been waiting for so long to receive him like, nine months! It feels almost surreal that I have him in person now. His sculpt is Dollshecraft Khan, and he looks so much more beautiful in person than in these pictures!! In these pics, his head looks bigger than it does in real life, but in reality the head is very proportionate to his body. Also the details of his hands and feet and all the veins on his arms are amazing![IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

    33. Wow, Congratulations!!! He is gorgeous.

    34. Thank you!!!! I was getting sick of waiting, but I must say Dollshe quality is the best. I really really love him :)

    35. @MJKKJM - Ooh a Khan! Congratulations!

    36. They are stunning! I wouldn't mind seeing what you'll make of them :)

    37. Gorgeous! Is he as huge as I think he is? Do you have some comparison pictures for us perhaps?
I am looking forward to see what you'll do with him

And I am happy to see Dollshe is shipping things - and that they look good.

    38. Thank you! I did try for a David Bowie look at least his eye brows. haha
That fabric on his vest is embroidered in the weave (brocade?). The fabric scrap was from a fancy upholstery shop, I think it is silk.

@blackandblue Thank you on the outfit! The fabric on his shirt is a silk chiffon from a thrift shop scarf. It is perfect for a poofy shirt. The big sleeves fit inside a slim sleeve jacket also. I am a silk chiffon junky, always on the hunt. haha

      @QuietandInsane Thank you!

    39. @MJKKJM Wow! Your Khan is so awesome! Seriously... amazing sculpt. LOVE!

    40. Thank you sooo much!!!
He really is huge! I don't have any male bodies lying around, and the biggest female body I have is of Iple SID size, so here's a comparison photo between Dollshe 24M and Iple SID woman :3nodding:.[IMG]

    41. Wow. He's...ummm... big all over isn't he? Totally see the purpose behind the "Ken cup".

    42. @Iron-Dog Too funny! Lots of junk in that trunk! :aeyepop:

    43. I have a character that would be perfect for that "package" (he's an Incubus) but he's already shelled in the perfect sculpt for him. I think he'd have some serious envy going on.

    44. Oh wow he's so tall! *.* Such a beautiful sculpt, adore the details. I can't wait to see what face-up you do/how you style him!

    45. @MJKKJM Congrats on your Khan! He's beautiful! Did you choose the small or larger head option?

    46. I chose the larger head, I could upload some comparison photos between Khan's head vs rey lewis vs david kuncci heads side by side.

      • x 1
    47. He looks so much more in proportion in your photos than the Dollshe's prototype photos. I'd a appreciate any comparison pics you could post. I'm considering many getting a fashion sized Khan in the future. Thanks!

    48. Thank you! And wow - he really is huge all over :)

    49. Yeah, I would say my pics represent Khan's body-head proportions pretty realistically. But it is, for some reason, quite difficult to capture the true proportions of Khan, I had to repeat taking pictures numerously because my camera would make his head really bloated for some reason. I think Dollshe team probably also struggled with taking pics of Khan, and ended up showing pics that represent his bigger version head as being too big. But in reality, the bigger version head isn't that big at all, it is actually really well proportioned to the body. I took some photos of Khan's body wearing David Kuncci and Rey Lewis' heads, and while they fit, the head rotation around the neck is very limited. What's shown in the pictures are as far as how much their heads can bend forward, which is... not much at all. Also, I found out that Dollshe team changed the way Khan's head cap and the neck-S-Hook part look so that it is a little bit different from the previous head caps of David and Rey. I like both versions :)

    50. Oh wow, thanks for all the photos; the larger version of Khan's head isn't anywhere as large as I thought it would be. The new s-hook configuration looks pretty interesting, too. Thanks again for the amazing photos. :)

    51. My blue Hound arrived and I am utterly in love with him!! :...(

      [IMG]Vassago by Casey, on Flickr

God, though, I was stressing myself out by watching the tracking XD He shipped in the early AM on Wednesday, so I expected him to arrive Friday or Saturday. He was at JFK airport on Friday morning, so I was like, Saturday for sure!! At 2am this morning he was at the sorting center that's an hour from my town, but by breakfast the tracking hadn't changed... then suddenly it said the expected delivery was TUESDAY??? I was about to call my post office to grill them on the facts when my doorbell rang and there he was! :thumbup

He's on the Rhythmos body, which I really like so far- but I wonder if anyone has any suggested improvements for it? I'm going to blush some of his body parts so I plan to suede most of his joints anyway. But it seems like his torso joint doesn't have much flexibility, not sure there's anything I can do though. I also wish his feet could turn side to side, they seem pretty stuck in a forward position! In any case, he stands like a rock and doesn't crumple up so I'll take what I can get!!

    52. What a gorgeous color!!

    53. Whoa! I think my brain just exploded! A blue hound... wow...
You've got a lot of work ahead of you, but it'll be so cool to see how he turns out! Congrats!!!

    54. HEY guys, i'm kind of aloof on DOA but i'm here because i ordered my 6th dollshe

i was wondering if anyone else has emerald green skin? i have an aramis in the color and i LOVE it but as far as i can tell, outside of him, there are only 2 others who have this color, and one of them is another aramis.

    55. I have seen a green Goohwa on Flickr that is the bomb but otherwise I don't think I have seen any Dollshe green dolls. How about some spam?

    56. Thank you! I'll post photos when I finished them.

    57. Some 'work in progress' pictures are very welcome too :)

    58. @MJKKJM - Your comparison photos are awesome! Interesting how the little tooth piece just fits in like that. Also interesting they they decided to remove the metal strip around the neck hole. I always liked that design.

      @overlordu - He's so vibrant and beautiful! :D

    59. I thought the metal around the S-hook hole was a nice touch, too. My Orijean head doesn't have it but it's an older head so... That blue is so vibrant and stunning. I have a serious weakness for the coloured resin. It's a good thing my dolly funds funds will soon be tapped out or I might see my way into convincing myself that I need a fashion version of one of the boys in that shade of blue. Or the honey titanium grey. Or, gods help me, the ebony. My wallet is currently trembling in fear in the corner.
